Kurt, I was impressed by your rendition of the NY Sour. That’s the art of bartending/gastronomy. Refining the classics to suit what you like to eat/drink. Always a pleasure to watch your videos, sir!
Strawberry sour was a hit at my BBQ, thanks! I’m not one for sweet drinks, but this wasn’t too sweet, and the syrup was easy to prep.
Awesome! Really glad to hear that!
This is the channels sweet spot, this right here, its why I subscribed, just wish you did more of these recipe shows, Thanks and will be mixing these up very soon
Will try to do more soon!
Need a syrup series of videos 🤔👍
Great to see the cocktail again. The first time I saw this channel it was a cocktail episode. 🍸
You bet! Really enjoy mixing cocktails!
Kurt, thrilled I’ve discovered your videos!
Great to see some cocktails again! Just in time for the summer. Thank you!
Lots of fun!
Love it! Thanks for the return of cocktails. 👏🏼
Great ideas! Thank you Curt & Trent!
Great video buddy!!
I LOVE the cocktail videos! Great drinks, and I love the port syrup idea!
Thank you!
Ever since I tried the 'figgin delicious' I will always give your recommended recipes a try.... they all look delicious ! Thanks SLB . Cheers !
Now that’s a throw back! Figgin delicious was good!
They all sound great
Love the innovative cocktail episodes. I’m newer to cocktails and would love to see an episode showing the process of making/storing your own syrups.
Good idea, thank you.
@@slbdrinks lets do it!
KURT!!!!! This is awesome!!! I love learning new cocktail ideas, so this was perfect!!! These were definitely easy and all of them looks smashable!!!! CHEERS brother!!!
Hope you would like it Tim! Thanks buddy!
Just made the port syrup New York Sour. Fantastic!
Awesome! Crazy how well that syrup mixes in a sour!
Great video! Salute'!
Love the cocktails videos Kurt! I myself have taking a liking to bourbon cocktails just recently! Cheers🥃
Cocktails was my first passion here in the basement. Finally talked Trent into a cocktail show once a month! Yayyyy!
Thanks for the cocktails guys!! One suggestion/request would be to put the recipes either in a link or straight in the description as many times a lot of us bookmark videos to come back and see the recipes on the future and that helps a lot.
I understand that there are people not watching such videos and only stealing the recipes but I don't believe there are many since we watch the channel for the people, energy and music and not for the recipes that you can get by googling as well😅.
Hope I didn't sound weird or offensive cause that isnt my intention at all!!
Love your videos keep it up guys, you deserve a lot more views and subscriptions, you are the go to channel along with whisky tribe o suggest to new people in the hobby!
Greetings from Greece where we have 35 celcius degrees right now haha.
Edit after watching: try Pedro Ximenez sherry instead the port syrup in the last one, I believe you will love it, Pedro Ximenez is what many call nature's simple syrup and it gives so much depth and flavour on a cocktail, much more than any syrup could and it also gives the required sweetness. As a bonus it shares some characteristics with port being a fortified wine😀 .(haven't tried a port syrup but have done an olorosso sherry one and I loved it, but prefer the already sweet Pedro Ximenez on this front)
We should have listed the recipes, sorry. It’s been a while since we did a cocktail video so Trent probably forgot. I will def give that Sherry a go! Sounds great!
@@slbdrinks haha no probs. Just commenting because I really like your videos. Keep it up, you are a great source of knowledge in the Amerocan style for us Europeans and I really do feel kind of guilty not joining your patreon yet but it is one of my few targeted channels for the near future. The only problem with that, and forgive me for the longitude of the comment, is that as a European even though there are a lot of great channels I want to support and endorse, due to the distance between us,.support will have to be minimal and just for volume purposes.
I would love if we could get going an event between European users in which we could taste bourbons non shippable to our continent. As a software engineer I would love to help organise such an event and I would ernestly join it in any European country. I know it's a big undertaking and I have went way out of scope of.my comment but I guess I just wanted to vent some ideas this very very warm night here in Greece. Thanks for everything and greetings!
The strawberry sour sounds great
Great video
I made the Strawberry syrup this afternoon. I will be making the Strawberry Sour this evening. Last week I made a Blackberry Basil syrup for a Blackberry Basil Julip.
Oh boy that sounds delicious! Hope you enjoy the strawberry!
@@slbdrinks It is!
Oh man, I haven't had Calvados since 2015 when I went to Normandy for Task Force 71 (the 71st anniversary of D-Day). Getting to jump in Normandy, France was like a dream. Still cannot believe it.
AATW!
Wow that some great stories I bet! Appreciate your service!
YAY! Cocktails!!!!
Love me a good whiskey sour, what a great idea with the strawberry syrup or fruit brandy (or liqueur)! I'm going to have to try all three of these. Blueberry and lemon are great together in a pie... gotta try them in a whiskey sour!
Exactly! Get creative!
Great video as I was craving a summer cocktail today. Went with a Kentucky mule. But these are next.
Mules are awesome as well!
Kurt, great show and thanks for returning to a cocktail episode! While I love your bourbon impressions, I feel like this is where you let your culinary dedication really shine. 👍😁
Many thanks! I do enjoy the creativity that can go into making a great cocktail!
excellent video! Should do these cocktail ones more often.
I think at least once a month! Thanks!
Awesome! For me, I like the traditional NY Sour. Also love the different sours. Another super simple drink is a bourbon smash - much like your sours but with fresh fruit muddled instead of syrups. We do smashes a lot: strawberry, blueberry, blackberry, peach. The thing with smashes is to muddle with a bit of mint - adds a layer of complexity.
Smashes is an excellent option for a simple but yet tasty cocktail!
I like a bourbon and coke...without the coke or the ice.
Ha! Nothing wrong with that! Hope your feeling better.
Fun stuff!!! Not everyone likes it neat and its great to have new mixers. Iv not had any of those and it will be fun mixing. Again good simple mixes and I’m sure they are great. Thanks again guys and gals 🍹.
Thank you!
Id have never thought to make a wine syrup. Thanks for the idea
Tried it on a whim. Sometimes that works out sometimes it doesn’t but the port syrup is delicious!
so funny you say that about port wine. I'm not much of a wine drinker at all, but I do like port. That's why I love the Elk's Own cocktail :)
Exactly! That’s a great cocktail as well!
I will be making that port one!
Delicious!
I enjoy cocktails too. Perhaps a shared cocktail event could be the core of a live show. A few days before the broadcast you could state the ingredients and we can all make and enjoy them together and individually.
Hey I like that idea!
Good stuff
Love the Strawberry one!
It is honestly really good!
@@slbdrinks I still make the Blood & Bourbon whenever I can find the Blood oranges, since i learned it on this channel.
Port syrup sounds so interesting. I love me some good Port. It’s the one wine I really enjoy.
Same here!
shake and dump haha could go many ways 😂! Love the apron as well Kurt
Ha! Got to have some shake and dumps dude!
Great video. Happy belated Father's day.
Thanks! Hope you enjoyed the day as well!
@@slbdrinks Yes indeed.
Back to the ol days of makin cocktails...
Nice....and great to see you making your own syrups...harder than simple syrup..
Great vid.
I will stick to my single malts neat here in the jungle..
No ice needed when it is 95+ every day...ha ha...
Great for ladies and guests for sure...
Smart video and shows real growth in your syrup making skills...
Appreciate you Jeff!
@@slbdrinks Well, I was a Chef in USA for decades..school..whole bit and was a pro bartender prior to Culinary School in the early 80s.
Your skill level and on camera persona is wonderful.
My vids are so laced with vulgarity and me being a wise acre I cannot post them.
I make most just for my best buddy to watch.
Great to see those whisky sour alternatives.
In cooking...or cocktails....you must know the correct recipe before you can play around or make an infusion with another product.
I cook at home by fusing foods from around the world into my creations..decades of studying food from countries across the globe.
I love your vids and family and it is a real joy for me to get join the basement bar crowd...
We appreciate you as well Jeff!
These look delicious. Would love more tequila recipes also
Most definitely!
Great seeing these summer drinks. I do wish you added recipes to follow later. Definitely gonna try all three. Just a thought maybe add recipes to patron
Trent is supposed to put those in there soon. Been a while since we have done cocktails so he forgot.
Great thanks. Your cocktails are awesome
I made a ginger black tea syrup and liked the less sweet but potent ginger spice and tea notes. I thought it went well with burboun and bitters, but really those last two make any drink good. It is fun to mix but I find most of my guest prefer wine or beer.
Does sound good!
What is the shelf life of the syrups? Are you storing them in a refrigerator? Love the cocktail ideas. I will definitely be giving them a shot.
Fruit syrups usually only last a couple weeks even stored in the fridge.
Kurt, I am making up some strawberry syrup as we speak (type?) here in mid-70's L.A. My wife and I will be toasting your health within the hour!
High 90s in the Valley today. Cheers!
Really hope you enjoy the cocktail!
Brown County Winery has a delightful port wine that I believe is finished in Four Roses barrels.
Oooh sounds good!
Wow👍🏼
Just made the Port one. Delicious. Mine was light pink, not that nice magenta color yours was. Thinking you either used a port above $7 or simmered it longer than I did. Delicious regardless.
It really is good! I used Bin 27 port. Runs bout 25.00 and it’s pretty good for the money.
How about having a friend sitting at the bar who tastes the drink?
Sometimes a female and sometimes a male. They are introduced and then only comment after tasting.
Just a thought, we enjoy your channel.
Great idea! I like it!
Nice review. Love the syrup reductions esp the strawberry which can be leveraged for shirley temples 😉 I'm either a crazy purist, cheap or both but when I see 4RSB in c-tails it almost brings a tear. It's just too good. OF100, EWbib or 1783, ECsmB and DantBib work fine esp for really sweet drinks. Also find a splash of decent rum like Brugal 1888 really brings a summer vibe. thx, Cheers!
evan williams bib makes me so happy in a cocktail
@@Dafoodmaster and at half the price 🤑
I understand. I usually pick a bourbon mixer for flavor profiles and not price only. Within reason of course.
@@slbdrinks i think that four roses single barrel is within reason, price wise- but it is a really nice go-to sipper with stuff going on
guess i'd be conflicted too
Could you give some examples of other brand spirits that you think would also go well with your recipes. I new to bourbons so not sure what would be similar in taste. Thanks. Keep up the great job
Thanks much! Truthfully just bout anything that was close to 100 proof would be fine. Old grandad bottle in bond, old forester 100, etc.
@@slbdrinks TY
Rye, Fresca, lime. Wife calls them Friskies 😂
Really?? I like all that including Fresca!
@@slbdrinks It’s kinda like a quick and easy Whiskey Sour, with out all the egg whites lol
@@slbdrinks if you replace the whiskey with vodka it’s called a “Skinny Bitch” 😂
Do you have a video on Ports?
Sadly I do not but that subject would def peak my interest!
How long will the syrup last>
Sorry should have mentioned in the video but fruit syrups usually only last a couple weeks refrigerated.
All great recipes for sure. I experimented with an "elder fashioned" the other day made with St. Germain liqueur. Check out a recipe online.
Elder fashioned is very good!
How much bourbon in the Strawberry Sour?
All were 2 oz of spirit so 2 oz bourbon
What is the shelf life of the syrups?
I'm making up some strawberry syrup right now (!) and the recipes I found typically say 1- 2 weeks in an airtight container in the fridge; some say up to 3 weeks. HTH.
We are going to experiment with freezing ours; I'll try to remember to come back and post our results. I froze some honey syrup (equal parts honey and hot water) I made for a Brown Derby (2 oz. each of honey syrup, fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice, and bourbon) and it has lasted for 6 months.
Normally for fruit syrups it’s close to 2 weeks. Honey, cinnamon, etc much longer.
First in heck yeah!
You da man!
OMG No……………. Four Roses single barrel in a cocktail? Just no ………no……no……
Why not? It's a horrible Bourbon. Either that or pour it down the drain.
@@joewas2225 terrible at picking bourbon??.??
Four Roses is a gentle floral and fruit bourbon that would in my opinion be washed out in any strong flavoured cocktail.
I would have used maybe a Grandads BIB something with a stronger voice.
But Joe if you have any Four Roses you want to get rid of send it up to Canada to me damn stuff is rarer than hens teeth !
Lol again, mix with what you like. I’m working on this video I tried a few but liked the 4 roses the best.
