AAAWESOOOME!!! What an incredibly beautiful result! As they say: the devil's in the details. Fantastic job.
As for the turning of the pad... it did not bother me. It is the real process and it is fine. It's good to show us that the paper does not have to be fixed.
Yes, it really does look like a scene Ian F would sketch.
In the beginning, you used to make one window in yellow. Or at least one detail. Why did you give that up?
Great work, anyways! Keep it up! I feel like drawing now...

Thanks Monika, glad you like it 🙂
Good to know the page rotating didn’t bother you, I thought it would be harder to see what I was drawing. Grand!
Ian Fennelly would be finished his whole sketch and I’d still be drawing the first few steps 😅
Oh you miss the yellow? Well, for the last few I’ve just wanted to go back to basics and work on improving my line drawing, haven’t thought too much about colouring in. I have a new idea I want to try with colouring next week, and if it works I think I could work in a pop of colour again after that. Hopefully.

Donald, you've produced a really interesting piece of work. I'm also an admirer of Ian Fennelly but just imagine a scene right now - Mrs Fennelly shouts downstairs, "Ian, are you never coming to bed tonight?" And Ian replies, "I won't be long but there's a lad in Edinburgh called Wonky Donald who does the most amazing sketches and I must just try to catch his style!"
You never know, you just never know ...
Keep up the good work Wonky. 😀

Fabulous drawing Donald and your progression is really showing. I can just imagine the vibrant purple, blue and red that Ian would have, seemingly, splashed all over this scene. I think I suffer from brick dyslexia as I cannot seem to get them regular in size or alignment 😂

Thanks Graham. I like the term “brick dyslexia”, great way to describe it 😄

Wow👏👏👏 this looks very good. I think the bricks came out really good. This made me want to draw so I am grabbing my sketchbook right now and sketching.
    Thanks for the inspiration

Thanks Ali, appreciate it. Yeah the bricks added a lot, the benefits of drawing a scene like this over a plain smooth building. Great to hear it has led you to your sketchbook 😀
      Cheers, Donald.

Excellent work Donald. Yesterday I decided to try a sketch of photo I took in Norway a few years ago. It is an area that has very old historic buildings. It is fairly straightforward except for this box like structure jutting out over the street. I tried and tried to get it right and was about to give up when I thought 'what would Donald do?' Of course Donald would probably not bother doing this boring picture in the first place but having begun he would not have given up. So with you as inspiration I persevered and finished it even though it is wonky. So thanks for that.

My goodness, I can’t believe anyone would be wondering what I would do 😅 That’s mad. And has made my day.
Glad you figured it out, persistence is key and yes you’re right to get to the end before judging, so many times I’ve thought a sketch was going really badly and then at the end it’s not so bad.
I’m actually trying to be less picky in what scenes I choose to draw, starting to realise that boring can still make an interesting drawing. In theory urban sketching should allow you to draw anything and make it of interest in a way that a photo wouldn’t.
      Thank you! Donald.

This is wonderful! You did a great job of it all. You can really see how your drawing has evolved looking at this piece.

Thank you Cheryl. It does feel like I’m getting there. The windows on the left building went a bit wonky but I like that because it wasn’t deliberate, I think that’s the main difference in how I’m drawing now. Trying to draw a bit more normally is definitely helping me improve, more so than I thought it would. Cheers, Donald.

Happy to see this new video; you know I'm a fan. Watching you draw makes me believe that so could I; unfortunately I am not so good at it. (I think your photographer's eye must make a difference....also your consistent practice, of course). It's interesting that you think the moving your paper to make it easier to draw your lines is making the video less pleasant to watch; I feel the opposite way: I love seeing anything that is more true to the real experience of drawing. As a fan, I love seeing how you are progressing as an artist, both in your drawings and in your interest about reading more and more about it.

Delighted to hear that, thanks. I do think everyone can draw, and I say this as someone who never thought they could. I don’t practice as much as I’d like to but that is how anyone who is good at drawing has managed to get there - lots of practice and failed attempts. So yes you can do it 🙂
Interesting to hear your thoughts on rotating the page, hadn’t thought of it that way. In the timelapse though, the page was almost spinning at times because of the constant turning at speed, it was making me dizzy so I had to slow the page turns down in the edit. But if I need to do that in future it’s good to know it’s not too off putting.
      Thanks again, Donald.
