  • An excellent afternoon spent at the always busy station of Leeds which is a Northern terminus for services travelling along the East Coast Mainline where we see plenty of services from London Northeastern Railway, Northern, Transpennine Express, Cross Country and Great Western Railway.
    Leeds Station was built in 1938 as a result of the New Station and Wellington Street station becoming a joint venture when the LMS and LNER both had rights to operate services around the city. The architect responsible for the overall design of the station was William Henry Hamlyn who himself actually worked for LMS and designed some of their other stations.
    The station however didn't last all that long when only 1 year later the Luftwaffe would blitz Leeds just like they had London on their bombing campaigns targeting major landmarks to try and break the British spirit, sadly Leeds station was hit several times over with an untold loss of life expected to have occurs with commuters inside the station at the time of the raids.
    1967 was the year when Leeds Railway station became really what it is today, the station went through major redevelopment with track layouts changing and new platforms being introduced because of how busy the station was becoming, there were several stations in and around Leeds at the time but these all closed with all the focus going into the main station. The roof was redone and a new concours was constructed at the southern end of the station.
    And yet this wasn't enough, with additional capacity needed due to more trains running a new construction project was to be taken, this was to be called Leeds 1st and would see a further 6 platforms built which would move it up from 12 to 17 platforms inlcuding bay platforms to ensure that various services wouldn't cross one another, the former parcels depot on the far side of the station was redesigned for passenger use.
    Leeds has had so much done to it there's just to much information to try and compact so you dont get bored reading all this!!!
    The light engine class 91 was working from Doncaster to Neville Hill and the pair of GWR class 153's were running from St Phillip Marsh to Neville Hill.
    My next station is Hitchin on the East Coast Mainline.
    You can now find me on Facebook through the group Tornado922, there you will find regular updates, videos and photos from all of my goings on throughout 2018

    At this time of year East Midlands Trains 222 Meridians go to Scarborough from St Pancras via Sheffield, Wakefield, Leeds and York. I’ve heard TPE could extend their Newcastle-Liverpool services to Edinburgh meaning that even Dunbar will have some stopping TPE services. Northern Rail are still in their commuter debacle over cancelled, overcrowded and delayed services.

      @Tornado922  Před 6 lety

      It would've been nice to have caught the EMT services running out of Leeds but I was happy to catch what I did, I haven't heard anything about TP extending their current services, but then with the introduction of the new trains they may implement a new timetabled service

      Leeds is definitely one the better northern stations to go to if you want a good mixture of traffic, if you're lucky you can get a few freight trains pass through. There was supposed to be a GBRF 66 coming through but I think it got cancelled in the end.

    Just before I watch (I never normally do this) that sign has been turned to it side for so damn long. I ain't been to Leeds since March 2017, and it wasn't straight then!
    It's a weird thing to bug me, but hey! I'm a little bit of a perfectionist. Anyway, time to keep watching lol

    • @Tornado922
      @Tornado922  Před 6 lety

      I love the fact that at all of the things at a station to pick up on you find fault in a sign that's been at an angle for a fair amount of time!! I think maybe when you go there you should turn it around just to cure your perfectionism ;)

    Hi Tornado922 I was allowed to slam a door on a HST Class 43 at Reading and are you going start the GWR Mainline to or from London Paddington. Thanks.

    • @Tornado922
      @Tornado922  Před 6 lety

      Hello there, you are allowed to close the doors on the HST at any station. It actually helps in the departure of the trains because it means that the staff don't have to travel down the length of the train closing all the doors along it. I have started my GWML series and will be focusing on it for the remainder of the year until I have completed it. I have started in Cardiff and will finish at London Paddington

      Actually, it would be the Northern/Metro livery.

  • @thewiltshiretrainspotter1152

    I wonder why there were GWR 153s. Must be going to northern or on loan. When does your GWML service start?

    • @Tornado922
      @Tornado922  Před 6 lety

      From my understanding they were being transferred to northern to assist with the current lack of available stock. I have started my GWML series and the films will be up within he next few days

    • @Tornado922
      @Tornado922  Před 6 lety

      The 333's do suit the red and blue livery rather nicely. I think they could've done something with the plain 153 unit but then again I don't know if they have it on hire or if it is staying with them.
