One of my favorite experiences attending a wrestling show was thanks to Tito. A friend of mine and I attended a WWE house show in 1992 and, after Tito's match, we were standing along the aisle hoping he would "smack our hands." He missed us because he had switched to the other side of the aisle.
He was practically going through the curtain and he heard us chanting his name. He turned around and came over to us and smacked both of our hands. That was so awesome and I really appreciate him doing that for us.
Tito Santana was one of the greatest babyfaces of the Golden Age. Always over in a good way with fans, never fails to disappoint in the ring.
One of my favorites...great guy; great wrestler...very underrated.
It's extremely difficult to pull that off for as long as he did. Never heard a bad word ever spoken about Tito Santana and he's still beloved to this day. He earned his HOF ring for sure
Tito had a great career aswell intercontinental champion tag champ competed at the first 8 wrestlemanias which I don't think anyone else did
His name is Chico.
Prior to Sting and the Steiner Brothers, Tito was my favorite wrestler and still in my top 10 favorites of all time.
Tito did it all correct. Had a stellar career as a wrestler, knew when it was over, was smart with his money and then decided to do the most noble profession and that was to become a teacher. Last I heard he teaches somewhere in NJ. Arriba!!
Tito Santana. Loved him as the IC champ. His victory of Valentine is seared into my mind. True family man
Great guy . Met him at a convention about 5years ago . He’s a guy a lot of wrestlers admire because he stuck around for awhile and was successful his list wrestling career owning several businesses and becoming a teacher .
These stars like Tito were bigger than life prior to the internet. Mil Mascaras comes to mind as well.
Bobbys best line for me was “ a friend in need is a pest.” Great entertainer that will never be replicated in wrestling.
The best of them all on the mic, and also an excellent worker back when he was still wrestling.
Tito just seems like such a positive and likeable guy. Always loved him in the WWF, and respected his selflessness going whatever direction they wanted him to go. One of the true greats.
Bobby heenan is the greatest ever, what a cruel way for him to leave us his greatest asset taken from him RIP brain from a humanoid.
WILL YOU STOP?!
;)
Are you kidding me??!!
Very true
@@MrBoDiggety what happened? My monitor went out
@@billburns7721 LOL!
Tito was a big time favorite of mine as a little kid. Makes me feel old seeing him now. He looks great for his age but he's still an old man now.
Tito was old back in the 80s. He was in his 30s when we were toddlers.
Tito wrestled the very first WrestleMania match!
I can say with pride that Tito Santana was my first “favorite” wrestler at age 6 in 1984. Nobody had a better comeback in a match at that time to me.
As Roddy Piper said about Tito at Survivor Series 1990, he is a stand-up gentleman. Not a bad thing to say about anybody and nobody has a bad thing to say about him.
I love the fact that JYD called Tito “Teets” 😆
Heenan is Mount Rushmore Status in my book
💯
I met Tito a few years back and he is the nicest person. We took a photo together and we spoke about his feud with Greg Valentine (who was right next to him and also an awesome person) we all hung out for a good half hour just chatting about old school wrestling
Tito Santana: The greatest Intercontinental Champion ever!!
Thank you for the kind word about Bobby Heenan!
I love Tito. His feud with Greg Valentine was to me the best part of 80’s wrestling. Both were so amazing but of course I cheered for Tito. A couple years ago I found Tito on Another site doing little cameos for a small fee. My good friend’s dad had recently passed and wrestling was something they shared as it’s something my bud and I now share. Tito’s words were so much more than I could have imagined and meant so much to my buddy he cried. He watches it often and recalls those great matches and the time with his Dad. Tito is CLASS. And as important, he was amongst the best I ever saw and an all time wrestling great. Arriba!!!
My impression of Tito Santana is he is a classy individual and has good character
Tito was always a great wrestler and athlete. Everyone loved that he was a constant babyface. I loved Strike Force as many did and they were very over. One of the only teams that could defeat Demolition during their hayday. And the fact that WWE doesn't acknowledge Demolition's greatness is really just side.
That’s because Axe and Smash have been suing Vince for unpaid wages for like 30 years. Vince holds a grudge.
Beefy
@@dr.floridamanphd Hopefully with Vince gone, the office will finally give one of the greatest tag teams in that era their due.
Bobby Heenan is one of my favorite entertainers of all time, in any genre
The Barbarian clothesline off the top rope against Tito Santana at WM6 was ruthless!
Decapitated.
Tito sold it expertly
Holy 💩. I watched Tito Ssntans in WWF over 30 years ago and he hasn’t aged at all. Also RIP Bobby Heenan. 👍.
I nicknamed my Goofy Pit Bull "Hameneggar" ! RIP Bobby 🙏
No one ever has a bad thing to say about Tito, and I won't either, but when so many stories of professionao wrestlers are sad and depressing, it's so good to see someone who landed on his feet and did well for himself.
I was a heel guy but Tito was super talented. A great in ring worker.
I got hooked on wrestling watching Tito Santana vs Greg Valentine, and watching the US Express with Barry Windham and Mike Rotunda. Those were some of my earliest, fondest memories of wrestling as a kid.
We share the exact same memories!! So cool!!
Tito Santana and Rick Martel man there was a hell of a tag team back in the '80s when they finally reached a potential became the WWF tag team champions by beating the heart foundation even though Santana took a beating in that tag team title match even though strike Force came through in that WWF tag team title match
Tito completely "got it" when it came to heels generating heat to help him get over, especially Bobby Heenan and Jesse Ventura (who Tito has said many times he considers a good friend). Tito once mentioned that Jesse had asked him if it was okay before he said some racially-charged things while commentating one of his matches. Tito told him it was fine, as it drew heat and helped him get over. Plus, it was all said "in character", and they never went too far with it, like calling him a Hispanic equivalent to the N-word. Heenan talking about Tito selling burritos out of his car was over-the-top silly, which helped his own gimmick while generating sympathy for Tito; not that he needed it, as he was so over in the 80s. Had Vince not completely sidelined him to overpaid jobber status with the Matador gimmick, Tito against Bret Hart would have made for a great Face vs Face championship angle.
It’s next to impossible to put two baby faces against each other and make it work.
That’s why it was so rarely done before AEW.
And he wasn’t relegated to jobber status as El Matador. He was passing the torch putting over younger talent. He was helping them get over.
I remember Jesse Ventura would always call him Chico Santana. Pretty funny harmless stuff.
I loved heenan i cried when he died
Tito speaks so nice of everyone I think he’s a true success at the end of the day no drug eft like most
Awesome!!! Thanks for sharing this with us!!! Tito was so underrated.
Tito has a lot of class he won't say anything bad about anyone. You could tell when he talked about Honky Tonk Man
I remember when Bobby Heenan would call Tito's signature move The Flying Jalapeno.
It was Jessie Ventura and he called the flying burrito
@@tedmayer1597 I hear you. But Heenan DID say the jalapeño thing.
@@tedmayer1597 Jesse also called Tito, Chico Santana and called Texans Texicans. Back in the day people weren’t so sensitive about stuff they just took it as a rib from a heel
Ham and egger. Humanoids. The weasel. Was one of a kind. 🤣
Loved Tito's flying elbow. Underrated.
When I was 10, Hulkamania was at it's peak. His balding face was everywhere. However, my favorite was Tito. His figure 4 leglock was snappier than Flair's and NOBODY could outwork Tito in the ring. Not Michaels, not Austin, nobody. He could do scientific style, high-flying, all of it. To this very day, there may have been a FEW that are / were as good as Tito, but I dare say there has never been better.
Tito couldn't sniff Bret Hart's jockstrap. And HBK is WAAAAYY better than Tito as well.
@@JohnP74 HBK is the most over-rated 5 move chump ever.
What about me Mike? I defeated Tito in the IC title tournament in Austin,Tx in 1990.
@@mikeborsum8881 weird that basically the entire pro wrestling world disagree with you. I wonder why that is?
@@curthennig9448 handing out perfect plexs on everyone in heaven I'm sure 👍
BBH is a legend in the business. He always kept me glued to the screen
I think it's funny as a kid I would hear Bobby make fun of Tito and think " he's making him so mad he'll end of getting killed'. When Tito was thinking " thank you Bobby, that promo is going to draw a lot of fans who are going to pay to see me beat you up".
Oh I remember Tito wrestling 🤼♀️ someone and Heenan In commentary saying ‘I know for a fact that Tito will NOT win this match! So Monsoon said ‘ How can you be so sure?’ - Heenan replied’Cuz their isn’t a Mexican Taco stand within MILES from here!’ - Bobby played a heel all the way!
Bobby Heenan and Terry Funk.... 2 BEST TO EVER DO THE DAMMED THING PERIOD
Tito should have a channel that talks about Wrestling AND teaches high school curriculum to students. It could do really well!
Love these interviews
Always loved watching Tito. Dynamite guy.
Luv Tito Santana, one of the best wrestlers of the yesteryears💯💯💯
One of my favorites as a kid - great worker
I always wondered about Tito Santana was amazing
Great episode! Big fan of El Matador Tito Santana
The pride and joy of the RGV
Tito is so awesome
Looking Great Tito!
Of course Tito has nothing but nice things to say. Class act.
Tito Santana was that Dude. Arriba !!
Tito Santana / Merced Solis ,
Great WWF INTERCONTINENTAL 🏆 CHAMP back in the 80's.
He was one of my faves, and he accomplished a lot in the WWF!
HE WAS GREAT AS" EL MATADOR" IN THE EARLY 90S!
ALSO,
WAS GREAT AS "STRIKE FORCE" BACK IN THE 80S ,
WITH RICK MARTEL!
TITO IS A NICE PERSON
One of the best matches I saw Tito Santana end took place at Madison Square Garden where he took on bad news Brown in two matches! Can’t find this on tape anywhere unfortunately
Merced Solis was one of my favorites growing up!
Merced seems like such a great guy. Don't know if he still a Spanish teacher or not.
As of 6 years ago, he was. My friend's wife worked in the same school. He sometimes helps his wife in her hair salon. I drive past it occasionally.
Ariba!!
I loved listening to Henan and Gorilla in the late 80's. I always thought Gorilla was way too sensitive, but I was too young (teenager) to realize he was probably acting... that was the life.
A humble dude
Loved when Bobby would call him "the flying jalapeno".. wish we could get that type of commentary these days.. stupid PC bullshit ruined this world.
@Marc Carran is the extra boring obligatory response who is a douche.. You're welcome
@Marc Carran You can blame BOTH McMahons for their greed of taking the WWE public.
Or Jesse Ventura would call him "Chico."
😂......🤙
I remember seeing Tito wrestle Big Bad Bobby Dunkum in the AWA back in 81 or 82
Rene Goulet had a few runs on ( or near ) the top when he was younger . It’s a shame he’s mainly remembered as enhancement talent .
I thought Rene was mainly remembered as Worzel from his agenting run ?
I remember him from when he would run down to break up fights with his crazy clown-like haircut lol
I remember none of his WWF work but I certainly remember him as Karl Gotch's tag partner when I was a kid in the early 70's.
@@misterslats He and Gotch held the WWWF tag team titles during that era.
@@ericbrower6769 Yeah I remember the WWWF run taking the belts off...Tyler and Crazy Luke Graham (I think?) but I have no recollection of him still working in the ring in the 80's WWF and certainly not as an enhancement talent. He was in the office by 1980. Doing run-ins as an agent isn't "enhancement" work.
Merced Solís from Mission Texas… RGV born and raised… Arriba!!!
Tito along with Ricky Steamboat were pure babyfaces i liked strike forces theme girls in cars
Tito is underrated.
I thought he was going to say Slick was slick! BTW, I found out that Slick is Rufus R Jones son! True story!
Class guy, the epitome of a babyface
My late dad called him Tito Banana. 😂
Bobby e was one of the greatest characters in wrestling history
Where's the full interview?
I believe that last Wrestlemania match Tito is speaking of is the one he had with Papa Shango at Wrestlemania 9. Man was I so upset when they didn't include it in the Wrestlemania 9 dvd I have just because it was a dark match. I wish it was included in the dvd.
just to say,Bobbey deserved better than he got and tito seems to back that up, as does everyone else. RIP The Brain!
Tito looks and sounds great.
Heenan #1 👍
Bobby called tito the flying jalapeño
What can we say about bobby heenan!
He was one of a kind that you don't see today with commentators, wrestling managers, workers in the ring.
So sad to see that even though you couldn't recognise anymore he still had his sense of humour like Tito says.
In case no one knows who we are talking about and you just like modern wrestling, go take a look on here and type in bobby heenan.
Always fascinated by drop ceilings. Maybe it's hotel but those dont seem like hotel curtains.
I would have loved to seen Tito have a run with the big belt. He deserved it more than most that had it.
Rene Goulet & Frenchy Martin were two very classy guys from Quebec! RIP
I wish someone would interview nailz thats the interview getting his side of the story
Don’t feel bad, Tito, it took me a while to figure out Slick too. I thought he was supposed to be a pimp. Turns out Slick and Brother Love are like when a toy company re-issues the same old toy in a new color and calls it a new toy. G.I. Joe and He-Man were famous for this.
12/14/92 (WWF) GreenBay, Wisconsin :Expo Center ( TV Taping) Nailz beats up Vince McMahon backstage
The berserker (John Nord) watching the door. 🚪 The Berserker WWF ended 2/1/93
You know, Tito wrestled in other territories aside from the WWF. Guess it was too hard to ask him about Terry Gordy or Ivan Koloff, in Georgia.
Okay, a few AWA guys.....still, Tito worked with soe great talent long before the WWF.
Tito And Greg The Hammer were the Best matches tough ...
LOD were heels when they first came to Georgia.
As an adult I realize now how great heenan was anyone in the heenan family was instantly hated due to being associated with Bobby. Greatest manager ever hands down in my opinion
tacos lol
Tito Santana should have been a main event performer in the WWF for a lot longer than he was. I always thought that he was worthy of a second I-C title run. His Matador gimmick was not only an insult, it was totally unnecessary for an established babyface of his caliber. Unfortunately, at that point in the early-1990s, Vince was all about cartoonish gimmicks. Both Tito Santana and Ricky The Dragon Steamboat were "mis-used" by the WWF in their final runs in the company.
The Flying Burrito RIP Bobby Heenan
I remember Heenan called Chico a Poor Loser.
I would love to see a nailz interview and get his inside story it takes ballz to attack Vince
Damn what’s up with his hair lol
small thing. it's odd to me how guys frequently forget Dynamite Kid's name. I was watching Valentine and he easily called Davey Boy but like Tito had to be prompted to remember Dynamite Kid. just an observation
I wish u would had asked him about Manny Fernandez
Tito was\is just always an all around Good Dude! I remember being so pissed when he dropped the IC Title to Randy Savage!😡 Randy had a brass knuckle concealed and (kayfabe) knocked Tito out!😡
Just an FYI: The "roll of dimes" would've been wrapped, it's a common practice still in North America. Still wouldn't like a punch to someone holding one though.
It's so strange that Bobby Heenan got mouth cancer. The gift of gab was his biggest asset.
It's not Tito , it's chico
Rene left great messes in hotel room beds.
Tito Santana, i want u to think about yr family before u step in the ring with greg valentine - The hammer
Bobby Heenan would give Tito Santana pure Hell! It's just the things he would do and say. For instance back in the day there was WWF Prime Time Wrestling. Tito showed up and Bobby started stomping his shoes on the floor like he was squashing bugs and saying, "Got him!" Basically emphasizing that Tito was bug infested.
