George is literally the definition of someone who loved doing his job and just so happened to get paid for it
I believe his love for the sport in a way kept him down .promoter’s knew he loves it so much that they could keep him down n he still be happy .he had no ego..
@@Dnddy5617 My thoughts exactly, guys like that were a promoters dream but then again guys like that were an invaluable part of the business
@@timfrederick9305 Right
If George had some measurable ego, he could have pushed for bigger billing but he seems content with jobbing for a career and knows his place
BOBBY THE BRAIN SAID, IT YOUR NOT IN THE BUSINESS JUST To MAKE MONEY, THEN YOUR A IDIOT AND YOUR IN IT FOR THE WRONG REASONS.💯💯💯🤔🤔🤔
If he was a winner... he would be named George North.
I notice George uses your name regularly, James, and I like that. I think that's a definite sign of mutual respect and that he's comfortable talking with you. Great guest!
He told a story a while back with James about how impressed he was with Vince for knowing his name. Seems like that’s something that resonates with him, good call!
I completely agree. This guy is a class act.
People that say the person's name when talking to them usually appear as more likeable. That's one of the many reasons George South is comes across as likeable. I especially like his passion.
Yeah George South comes cross a ridiculously nice guy and a really respectful guy.
I don't drink alcohol much anymore and I don't know if George smokes pot but I would honestly love to smoke a joint with him and listen to him tell stories I'm sure maybe I can interject with a couple of good ones from being in the music industry but I'm sure he has some absolutely wild ones from being involved in wrestling back in the day.
He definitely strikes me as the kind of guy who would be really fun to just sit back have a conversation and share stories with
It's actually a technique you learn in Sales. And George is nothing if not a Salesman.
George reminds me of a backup QB that people say never made it big but always had a job and the love of his teammates also managed his money better than a lot of superstars.
George South: Wrestling's version of Ryan Fitzpatrick
Wrestlings version of Frank Reich
Very good comparison.
I like this guy. Great storyteller and very respectful.
IKR
George indeed "made it." He still enjoys good health, makes a good living, is in demand as a teacher, and has the respect of those inside the profession and out. And as a Christian, he's got his life together. What a powerful role model he is.
One thing I really like about George is he's not one of those old bitter wrestlers that complains about the business or his career.
He's the absolute opposite of that. He is so refreshing, humble, grateful, and optimistic
@@GameTime-yj6qv and I guarantee you if he had a podcast it would be better than a whole lot of the big name guys.
Listening to him and listening to Brett Hart's night and day, like this guy gets the business and Brett never did.
@@deadend1041 in fairness, Bret has gone through a lot of heartbreak in wrestling, the big ones being tragically losing Owen, Montreal scewjob, Goldbergs mule kick that ended his career, etc.
George sounds like a pretty awesome dude. Fun interview and great stories.
More George South please
I've really, really been enjoying your content with Geroge South. I think it's such a different POV from an enhancement talent perspective.
A guy who sees the value in losing matches on TV. That's refreshing, I think Mick Foley is the only other wrestler I've heard say that.
with out guys like George we would never have gotten guys like Ric Flair -- the territories did not need a locker room full of "superstars" they needed solid workers willing to do the deed to build up the local favs on tv to sell tickets
Razor Ramon said he didn't care if he lost because it never hurt him.
Yep, Scott Hall said he looks good laying on his back.
Bad News Allen said something along the lines of he didn’t care about titles and wins and losses, he only cared about making money!
Making it big is a matter of opinion.
I cannot think of anyone in this business that can still wrestle in his 60s, have a school.to.teach others,
You made money, have a wonderful family and you know the King of Kings....
Dude - you are successful in all degrees
I am proud to listen to you talk
This is definitely my favorite Podcast/Interview show. George South is a guy that I would’ve probably never thought of, but he’s amazing.
George and Dutch are one of the best interviews out there. Also both are amazing men and a huge credit to the business. Thanks for all your years of losing George.
He comes off as an extremely likeable guy.
George South could beat anybody and could’ve make anybody look great that’s what we missing in today’s wrestling… He’s such a great worker he can make a broom look like a wrestler
Great Interview! I remember watching George and the Mulkey Brothers take the loses on TV when I was a kid. Great to see he is still healthy and he seems to have finally gotten some of the credit that he deserves! You gotta be tough to take shots from those big dudes...Kudos!
Guys like George and Barry Horrowitz saw the light and found out that you could make GOOD MONEY if you could be a GOOD JOB GUY. You are only as good as your dance partner, and when you find guys that know how to WORK with ANYONE and they are SOLID GOLD.
Having Wahoo be your introduction...doesn’t get any better than that. What a talent!
Thanks, jobbers have great stories, would like to hear more
I worked for 25 plus years as Sonny Rogers . Some of the best talent i knew were " Jobbers, Jabronis, Enhancement " whatever u want to call us.
George South, Barry Horowitz, Bill Howard, George Gadaski, Kenny Jay, Ben Alexander, Johnny Rodz, and so many others were the cream of the crop who could outwork many Stars that were being pushed.
Add Mike Jackson , Chick Donavan as well.
Hoping someday that WWE has a Wing of The Enhancement - Jabroni Hall of Fame.
Loved the Milkey Boys
Is this actually the real Sonny Rogers? I remember you well because as a kid we used to call enhancement talents which we didn't know they were called back then dumb guys and we would call them dumb guy matches. And I mean that with all respect cuz I was a kid and I didn't know any better. But honestly those were some of my favorite matches because I got to see my favorite Superstar come in and destroy you guys and that's what you guys were there for and you did it well.
Yes sir it's me. Hope you're doing well Chris. Rob Ho , it's The Mulkey Brothers.
Does Iron Mike Sharpe fit on your list?
Mike Sharpe was actually a Pushed Face and Heel before he arrived in The WWF and was even given a Heel Push with Lou Albano when he first arrived in The WWF early 1980s.
" Iron Mike " was always a Solid Worker even in his final years in the WWF when he was putting most of the faces over on TV and @ the houses.
Mike was a second generation wrestler as well . FTR he was a pretty Tough Guy as well.
George might be the best interview yet !!
What a solid gentleman...love ya George South!! Appreciate you and your contributions to Professional Wrestling!🙏🙏👊👊
He has such a passion in his voice
He didn’t say what he made
If you can buy five houses being a so called jobber at wrestling. You’re doing well in my book. You can’t find too many jobs that you can say that.
Matthew Robinson, I don't know about that. I was a jobber for the WWF for about 7 years. No way I could buy 1 house let alone 5. All the money is if you are in the main event. Not a preliminary match.
@@freddie3206 just responding with what he said. I don’t obviously know for sure what anyone makes as a professional wrestler. But I guess if a person has the luxury to make a living to live their best life I think that’s all that matters.
There hasn't been enough shoots with George South since he can talk about his experiences with all the big names but from a different perspective. Never heard any wrestler ever say anything about him.
You don't listen then, everyone talks good about George, cornette always talks about what a great worker he is and flair, steamboat Bobby Eaton and Tully Blanchard all sent their kids to be trained by him that says enough. Flair used to get bitched out by Jimmy Crockett and Dusty back in the 80's for having TV matches with him that lasted through a couple commercial breaks and looked competitive instead of just squashing him
George is a great guy and great listen.
Love this guy. Basically a superfan that got into wrestling ☺🙏
This dude is awesome, great interview
Met George at an Independent Wrestling Show at East Rown High School in Salisbury NC this past weekend. Wow.... .what a nice man and he talked to my wife and I like we were the most important people in the world for 5 minutes or so. Been watching George since he started.....George South IS PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING.
George is Champion 🏆
had the pleasure of seeing South work a few years back he definitely is a great worker even at his age
George is likable as heck. He's got his life all figured out and he's totally happy with it and it shows.
I hope these videos blow up and he gets offered a job producing or coaching with a big company. He already helped Cedric and Tessa, I’d like to think he could help a lot more.
I relate to his experience being a wrestling fan as a kid. I remember going to my first house show at ten years old in 1985. I'll never forget walking down the aisle at Joe Louis Arena before the show. To just see the ring set up in the middle of the floor was the most exciting thing in the world, and that was before they even rang the bell for the opening match!
Lanny Poffo said something I never forgot: It's not so much about how much you make, but how much you save. Not just that, but George clearly enjoyed being a pro wrestler. Some people "get it" and some don't. Not everyone can be THE MAN. Someone has to be the supporting act, some have to be the bit part. But if you play your cards right, you can be that role for a long time and make a living. Good on him. And hearing a Southern wrestler that clearly isn't a racist from JCP...that makes me happy as well. Sucks hearing stuff about Flair and Dick Murdoch and even Dusty Rhodes, but not surprising.
I thought it was neat to see him evolve into the Terry Funk thing in GCW after all these years. I’m glad he can still go, get that money man!
“Terry Funk thing” jesus yet another attempt to compare GCW with ECW. Embarrassing. Not even remotely the same.
George South wrestled ONE match in GCW. Terry Funk was in ECW since the very beginning and practically begged people in Philly to keep supporting ECW when the “Arena” wasn’t even half full lol. This is so hilariously clueless.
@@justint8635 all that really necessary? For real think about that.
That's an interesting comparison. 🤔 It might have worked had it been played out.
@@81ghale yes, yes it is.
enjoying these interview clips the most
More George South, please.
Does George South have his own podcast and if not why don't you and him put one together since you have one with Dutch. I could listen to George talk for hours and not get tired I mean the man has so much knowledge and so many stories he could tell it's a shame if he doesn't have a podcast. And if he doesn't please please let's get one going.
I was the same way. I became a paperboy, cut grass, etc. so I could buy a ticket.
George South was a key "jobber" in the NWA and most big time wrestlers wanted him in the ring bc of his work ethic plus he knew how to "work".
I love wrestling like him too . I watched him go everywhere ! Mainly in Crockett but still , And I KNOW he didnt have an easy ride . But just for the experience , Id trade my life to have his ! Greatest time in wrestling ! And George is STILL kicking ass !
How many times can he say James lol love George South
George proved that sometimes in life when we have difficult moments, things can get way better afterward.
George South seems like the real deal.
Wonderful interview.
Love me some George South!! Knew his spot in the biz. Best bobber of all time!! Mullkey Brothers , too!!✌
George was a good worker unlike the mullkeys. They looked like shit,we're pale and we're only good because they took the most painful looking bumps. They did get their only win over George under a hood though
Underappreciated legend. Love George South. That guy has a lifetime of stories.
Great interview. More please.
This guy was part of my childhood. When I seen that bandanna I knew he was getting beat lol. But I also noticed how good of a wrestler he was. Seem like a great guy
I actually seen George win a match in Florence SC against johnny weaver years ago at the American legion field , great times
*saw
2022 George is a National Treasure love you bro
CLASSY GUY...smooth talent
He always gave Ric Flair fits in the ring..
My two favorite folks that James talks with is Dutch Mantell and George South.
George needs to audition for next Pirates of the Caribbean
I wonder if George knows how important he was to wrestling
I think he does but he'll never say it
Guy has a great attitude. Deserves everything he has
Such a good bloke. Love him.
George is a legend
Just watched a match from late 1989, a dark-haired George South taking the loss to Hercules. Respect to George South for taking all that abuse and keep coming back for other matches. He sold really good.
One of the best jobbers in the business. He knows how to get the headliner over. Plus, he is a great storyteller.
Good dude and a Fantastic Ambassador for Wrestling
Love listening to george dutcn n corny..absolutely enjoyable😅👍
Absolutely LOVE George South! From Spartanburg with love!
Great fucking guy 💪🏾🏆💎💚 And great interview as always
Rocky King was also Little Richard Marley the Roadie with The Freebirds in 89-90 I believe.
Hell yeah brother! The unsung heroes of wrestling and some of the most important guys you can have!
Good guy George
humble
Would have been nice if he quoted his numbers for his best years.
George rocks! 🤟 Hearing from the 'jobbers' can be just as entertaining as hearing from the 'Stars'...good job James!
I could listen to George all day, a true pro, and a legend
I was gonna just thumbs-up a similar comment but thought I'd add one too.. I wasn't all that familiar with this guy before now, but he's one of the best interviews I've seen.
And a unique perspective as well.
Mad props to George South and what he did for the industry and now keeping Christ as the Main Thing!
Today, compare George to many Main Eventers from the 80's. He is alive, in great health, no addictions, not flat broke, still working in the business. Who REALLY made it?
i love his passion and devotion
Great story george south awesome stories
I shall call this future podcast: Southern Hospitality: The Stories from George South
If the guy.made a good living doing what he loves then he succeed
Sounds like Dusty didn't dive a damn about him.
George south and Mike Jackson best long term jobbers ever
What a wonderful person. Imagine what the world would be like if we had another George South??? Just a wonderful soul and a true gentleman.
George South was a happy dude who loved what he did. An kept himself sane.
I've watched Mr South for decades and he was always entertaining. I greatly appreciate Mr South's contributions to a form of entertainment I thoroughly enjoy. Thank you very much, Mr South.
Thank God this was only 8min long cause I was mesmerized I'll listen to this guy talk all day long and not get anything done.
This guy is an awesome dude, and does he look good for his age or what?!
Good attitude and being positive is the key to having a good life. Something very simple but rarely (nowadays) put into action.
I loved Rufus R. Jones. He would dance and hype the crowd. In the ring he would punch his opponent once and make some dance moves and punch him again. Man, God bless Rufus R. Jones. May he rest in peace.
I loved the Freight Train also
George kicks ass
A true Superstar!!!
Where is the full shoot interview, could you please let me know I would appreciate it, thank you
Brother, I can't wait to meet you and spend Eternity with you and Jesus! Been a fan since 9 years old, always will be! God bless you George.
Number 1 Paul Jones was my favorite and he was George
After hearing this I get the assumption that Dusty really did kill the Crockett territory.
I love wrestling like he does. It's nice to know I'm not alone. I'm not crazy, for being as obsessed with it.
Along with Barry Horowitz & "Iron" Mike lSharpe, South is one of the greatest job guys/carpenters/ enhancement talents in wrestling history. Period.
Well,William h Macy made a Hollywood star career playing losers ....
What a great story! That must have been a wild year in KC..... which wasn't NEARLY as nice then as it is today.
Aman. I feel like work like this guy does. Good man
