    Very Helpful video.. although I spent ages trying to pair the G9x with my Android phone. Worth mentioning that you need to download the latest software and hold the phone button down on the G9x for 5 seconds or more to see the red and blue flashing lights before the unit will pair with the phone. :)

    Got my Scala Rider G4 about 8 Months ago, couldn't ride without it, Music, Chatting to other biker mates with it when on rides etc.
    It's honestly a brilliant bit of kit.
    I have no real problems with it, just little things and when my first one did go wrong Cardo (or their UK representatives) changed my Scala Rider G4 over for me all for the cost of postage, very helpful.
    However been thinking of Upgrading it, so good timing on the Review - thank you Sir!

    Good review, Russ.
    Interesting, I use the Sena SMH10 - many similar features but one notable difference: When my phone rings, I can hear the ringing tone but am also still able to talk to Wifey until I press the button to accept the call. Once I accept the call it cuts off the comms, but I can press a button and make it a conference call. I'm surprised that the scala cuts off the comms when the phone rings, I can see why that's your one disappointment.
    There seems to be no wind cancellation on the Sena's - which is a shame. Also the mic and earpieces are either fixed in or have some plug on which matches nothing else. The other thing I found annoying is that you cannot patch/bluetooth the sound from the Senas into the Drift Ghost to record both voices (when we ride together) onto the video soundtrack.
    as always - top notch mate - cheers and ride safe.

    I just bought the Q3 teamset with my brother. Very exited about the package and the load of accessories you get from Cardo. It looks all very professional. We do still have to test the set on the bikes. Looking forward to that :-)

    This review is actually the niche I need to convince my girlfriend to start riding. She's always said she wouldn't like to get a bike because we can't chat to each other, when really it's just because she's shit scared of riding a motorcycle. Now she's got no excuse. :)

  • @whatamoto
    @whatamoto Před 10 lety +1

    Was almost going to buy one of these until I found that the new Sena 20s can pair with any brand/model headset (the G9 can't I believe) which is great as it doesn't matter what headset the person you ride with is using, you can still talk.

    Thanks for your very helpful review.
    We put 120.000 odd kms on our seven year old Q2 rider to pillion, before first the helm and then the rider unit gave out (I still got a sweetly working pillion part, if anyone needs one). Being caught out on along Scandinavia trip we could only get the GX9 in a rush.
    Both coms got a wee bit of an echo at very close, non riding range, but that disappears with engine noise.
    We made a bit of a mountain trying to pair them and the mobile via Garmin IV, but thanks to another youtube clip, that turned out much more simple than our first failed attempts.
    If its the driver's new helmet or I-coms, G9x is a huge improvement, particularly at above 140kmh - almost eerily quiet...and ,yes,volume levels adapt well to changing outside noise levels. A good panic buy!
    Cheers, from Germany

    Informative video Russ, cheers.
    Going off topic a bit, you ride a Pan European. I currently, did ride a ZZR1100 which is now off the road due to damage, which i cant get the bits for. I'm a big fan of Delboy's Garage and was thinking Harley for my next bike, but have been offered a 1999 Pan from a local dealer for £2000. I ride all year round so the Pan would be a better choice for the weather, comfort etc etc, and would generally do 60-80 miles per night while on jobs. Now, as an all rounder bike, would you recommend the Pan or does she fall short in certain aspects?
    I know a Harley would be amazing fun, but riding one through the crap weather, with all the Gerbings connected be sucking eggs compared to the big Honda?
    Keep up the good work as your vids are very informative, and great watching while sucking a few Ales :o)

    How do you find the talk time\battery life when phones and sat nav units are also paired to the headsets? Older versions lasted 5 hours plus without extra items paired but 2 hours max as soon as you paired it with a non-headset device.

  • @triplecheeseburgermotovlogs

    I can't decide between the G9X and the new Sena 10R (I'm not even considering the Sena 20S anymore as its not even water resistant according to a Sena rep!!!) The main reason I fancy a 10R is that it allows you to communicate with people that are using none Sena devices. Does the G9X have this function? Any advice would be appreciated.

    I've got the Q1 Teamset. It's fantastic. It was great while my son was getting used to riding pillion because he could ask me to slow down/speed up etc without having to shout.
    I'll have to upgrade to one of the distance units next year when he gets a bike. I think it will be invaluable when we ride out together. I will be able to correct any mistakes as soon as I see him making them etc etc.

      RoadcraftNottingham I love the thing. My only complaint is that my MP3 player is connected via cable and the volume needs to be higher than I would like for the unit to register that the MP3 is operating.

    I'm just wondering what this will be like using it with an open face while riding a bike without a screen. What does it do with the wind noise on the open road? I used a pair of Interphone F4's for a while, but the moment one left urban areas onto the open road it just was not up to the wind noise.... Are these better?

  • @lukasadamec526
    @lukasadamec526 Před 10 lety +1

    Out of interest, have you ever used any of the Scala comms systems with an open face helmet? I ride a chopper and don't like to wear a full face helmet as I don't think it looks good. However at the same time I'd like to be able to talk to my girlfriend who is riding with me. I suppose I could just buy the unit and take my chances, but at nearly £400 it seems to be too pricey for a pun in case they don't work as well with an open face helmet. Any feedback that you have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Fantastic review!
    We've been using the G4 for awhile now, too. They work well most of the time; however, every once in awhile, the pitch of the voice from my hb changes to really high or really low. Did that every happen to you? What prompted you to go for the upgrade? I've been thinking about it, too.
    Does that code work in the US? ;)

    • @RoadcraftNottingham
      @RoadcraftNottingham  Před 10 lety

      Thank you. The biggest problem I found with the G4 apart from the VOX issue is the mic pickup. The mic needs to be close to the mouth and voice needs to be a little more projected. Still think they're superb though. Yes the code will work in the States, think the postage may push prices over the edge though (unless you're coming here for a holiday) ;-)
