  • In celebration of #808Day, JUPITER-Xpert provides a short tutorial on how to let the Roland JUPITER-X/Xm I-ARP feature create a sophisticated 808 drum track for the Step Edit Sequencer in minutes.
    The JUPITER-Xm here has been updated with the latest firmware, System Program 1.50. If what you’re seeing here doesn’t look familiar, check out my video on the latest update at • Roland JUPITER v1.50 -...

    Something else you can do is record the MIDI Out of the drum part into a DAW, 'explode' the resulting part into separate MIDI instrument tracks and render each one as an audio track. You can then process each drum sound independently. I haven't done this from the JP-X yet but I have recorded a number of Kronos drum patterns that way.

    HAPPY 808 Day Indeed!!!!!! Thanks for this video. I’ve been controlling my xm with a midi controller. This makes me wanna try the xm by itself again. I-arp is nice, but I do like assembling my own drum patterns as well. I look forward to this sequencer eventually being as good or better than the plug out 8 sequencer with motion recording etc. Come On Roland!!! Thanks again Robert 💐

      Yes, someone asked me the other day “After 1.50, what’s left?” and my first answer was more flexibility in the drums and its parts 🤞Motion recording like that on the JD-Xi or S8 would be welcome too. This particular video is definitely aimed at, well, myself 😄 I’m just terrible with drum machine patterns for much more than a 4/4 kick. Add to that the kit parts assigned to the keyboard, and I’m lost, even with a picture of the mapping. Also, I can’t dance so I pretty much fail with anything associated with rhythm 😂

    Such amazing tutorial on the Jupiter Xm. Thank you!
    BTW, where did you get your coloured stickers to colour code your buttons? Very smart!

    Hi Robert, thanks for your videos on the XM... I have been going through them and will probably watch them many times. I also watched the Roland Jupiter XM series of videos going through all of the functions.... but the videos are over a year old and I’m seeing that the most recent patch is 1.5, I’m assuming are not all relevant.. do you know which ones I should not bother with, or which function setting are not in use from the older videos? I’m picking up my Jupiter XM on Sunday , very excited.

      Last week I added a disclaimer to my older videos on step edit sequencing. They’re the ones that are most out of date and I will be archiving them once I replace them soon. Most everything else is okay. The instructions still stand (if I say something like “Select Part 2”) but the button lights may be a little different, or 1.50 menu page may look different. But for the most part, videos like “Simple Arpeggios”, Splits, or ZEN-Core editing are still applicable. I’d just skip anything I did for Step Edit or Sequencing. It’s much easier now, and the basics are in my previous video on 1.50. A née Step Edit video is coming soon. Thanks for watching and asking!

    So I totally copied your button film hack here - it looks so much cooler now - I feel like my baby Jupiter is all growed up LOL (well, not really). I also added some nice solid walnut side panels and man they look fantastic too! (Yeah I know that's not strictly Jupiter-styling per se, but they look super elegant.)

      I’ve been considering the wood look as well. I think this looks fantastic - www.roland.com/global/promos/customize_your_synth/

    Hi Bob, are you sure this video can be apply to Jupiter-X ??
    i own 1.50 Jupiter-X, and that doesn't runs on it.
    😒

    • @RobertSaintJohn
      @RobertSaintJohn  Před 2 lety

      You can see from the new menu screens that I’m running 1.50, so that’s not the issue. I’ve definitely done this on both my X and Xm with I-Arp and Step Edit, on 1.50 and even prior to that (menus in Step Edit looked different prior to 1.50). When you say “that doesn’t run on it”, what do you mean?

    • @patrickbardy9567
      @patrickbardy9567 Před 2 lety

      hello Bob, I had to contact Roland because despite that your tutorial does not work on my Jupiter, my jupiter crashed some times. They gave me a procedure to follow to reinstall 1.50. Now, everything seems okay and your tutorial works 😀

    is it possible to assignate a midi channel to the 5 parts ? like this I could sequence 5 parts differently ,
    thanx !! good job !!

    • @RobertSaintJohn
      @RobertSaintJohn  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, each Part has its own MIDI channel. Default is 1-5, but the user can change this on a Scene by Scene basis. Works very well with external sequencers

    • @RobertSaintJohn
      @RobertSaintJohn  Před 2 lety +1

      @@Dombevi Absolutely, each Part can be assigned its own key range, so you can split or layer them with precision

    I'm learning more from your videos then anything Roland has to offer. Question on 3.02 and the I-Arp Beat Detector. I followed the reference manual page 20 and the only way I can change the tempo is if there is another part going. It will not change the beat like you do on just the drum part. Any ideas.
    Than you

      ok It seem to be working now have to go past the loops for it to work I guess.
