Definitely feels like the kid was looking for adult attention. He may not be getting attention at home so started off on the path of "any attention, even negative attention, is good". Now, he gets to cool off after soccer (what kid doesn't like to play with the hose when hot?) AND gets to have an adult show interest in him and what he has to say for 15 to 20 minutes. The fact they talk now tells me there is more going on.

When I was a preteen in the late '70's, yeah, I'm that old. Anyway, I played pee-wee football, and with us living in Southern California, practice was hot. Where we lived, next door to us was an elderly widow (mid 60's), and she'd stand outside with her lawn sprinkler aimed at the sidewalk out front. She'd also have like a dozen gallon pitchers of tea or lemonade and cookies too. So when we'd finish practice, the entire team would walk to her house, play in the sprinklers, with cold drinks and cookies for a snack. All the kids enjoyed this until she passed away in 1990. That lady was the loving grandma for the young boys whose parents were in the military, whose real family was usually many states away. When she passed, her family was floored when over 500 former pee-wee footballers showed up to say goodbye. To Mrs Conchita Morales, we still love and miss you.

Just wanted to add some context, we all lived in base housing on NAS Miramar. Yes, the base where Top Gun was made. It's huge, and back then, it had its own schools on base. Her son was a fighter pilot, but was stationed temporarily overseas. Her grand daughter and grandson were 6 and 9, and they were like our little brother and sister. We loved the sprinklers after a hot sweaty practice, along with the cold drinks and cookies. Her grandkids were always included and protected by all of us because back then, there was a lot more racism towards Mexicans like myself. Arturo, Artie to us kids, was one of my best friends even though I was three years older. I also was his little sister, Elizia, I was her prom date since I was assigned there for temporary duty when I was in the Navy in 1986. I talked with Ma'ma about why she always treated us kids as if we were hers. She said we were hers, and she knew that our parent(s) being in the military a long way from family, that it was her duty to care for all of us as she hoped other grandmothers would if it were her grandkids. I had never took my Catholic heritage to mean much being half Mexican myself, until I met her. She taught me so much about God, relationships, and about life. That's why we all loved her, because she cared, for all of us kids, not just hers. Now, people deal with so much hate, and distrust, I know, I'm one of them, so that's one reason I miss her. She always told us kids till the day she died; to work hard, and play hard. To treat others with kindness, even when you know they don't do the same. To always give to help others and expect nothing back from them. To always respect yourself, and never let anyone's words make you doubt yourself. Most of all keep your family and true friends close because one day you will need them.
Her grandson John Lee, he's still a dear, close friend, more like a brother, and we talk almost once a week. Eliza and John are my twins Godparents, and I'm theirs. Sadly, I'm a widower, but their kids call me Uncle. This woman was just a wonderful person with a pure heart, and she left a legacy for hundreds of kids.

OP said his gf isn't into anime, but if she's cosplaying a very specific look Dabi has and not his iconic look then I feel it means she's pretty into anime (even though I don't think that look has even been animated yet, so she likes the series that much that she has read the manga). Also if she's cosplaying an anime character I think it means she likes anime. I think OP is one of those guys who quizzes girls on a topic their interested in to prove their actually a fan in that thing.

    • @LunacticInferno
      @LunacticInferno Před rokem +17

      @Just a Sentient Mclaren P1
Na you can completely be into certain designs without being interested in a genre, anime itself, characters, show or such. There are some character and art designs even I like but I would never watch those shows, or say that I am into a kind of game, genre or so forth. American-style comics are an example. I absolutely dislike and don't read them but I've cosplayed a couple characters based off art either done by someone specific or something I designed that isn't an official/released at the time work.
Now that isn't to rule out that the girlfriend is not admitting to liking stuff (such as anime) to said boyfriend because said boyfriend would critisize them or the stuff that guy likes is......really skewed into things that are pretty gross and down the incel hallway of obsession; thus making her uncomfortable and not wanting to even broach the topic with them in the event that the guy goes on skewed conversations/topics that she doesn't want to really be involved with.
We just don't know. However, people that work in an industry (graphics, game design, special effects and makeup) can have talent/do work across many genres but don't necessarily like those things. Someone can be good at horror design but not be into horror movies. This can be one of those cases where an aesthetic taste matched a character design that they liked and fit for them but they don't need to like/watch anime to want to cosplay it.

I am a woman cosplayer and there is definitely this huge expectation some guys have that we all dress as the cutest, sexiest, sluttiest girls from popular anime for "attention". As well as a stereotype that we're sex freaks. Neck beards will complain about these "fake fans" right up until they see someone like me or that girlfriend. Then they blow a whole new gasket, complaining about why we're cosplaying males or a character not meant to be hot. He was probably hoping she was cosplaying a character like Midnight so that he could tote her around the convention like a trophy. Yea the cousin clearly has a inferiority complex, but also probably a lot of stress with the new baby and badly behaved kids and the Ex.
OP is still fully in the right.
Wich is why the family defending the cousin is MUCH MUCH MUCH WORST then The Cousin, since they allow this behaviour. The Cousin needs therapy ASAP, but insted they let her get away with bad behaviour.... wich will make the cousin develop bad behaviours during her stress periods and make her a bully.
I also don't think the cousin is actually jealous of OP, that would have come out way before.. i think she just saw a dumb flaw and went with it since it made her feel superior.
As the family points out the cousin is under stress.. and trust me when I say.. The Cousin was stress relieving in the wrong way. The family should have NOT allowed it and told her off and tell OP: "Sorry she's under a lot of stress"
The family is litterly the biggest at fault.

Story 5 update Thank you all for the overwhelming responses! I’ve been wanting to put Sarah in her place for a while now - and I’m glad I did! However, Sarah’s Mom got involved and is mad at me.
Apparently, MJ told Sarah that him and his wife were separating. Sarah found out that he lied because she was secretly stalking his wife’s Facebook page - and got the shock of her life when wifey posted a newborn baby and MJ was there for the birth.
Sarah did the math and realized that he got both of them pregnant the week of his birthday. She confronted him and he confirmed it. He also said that she’ll have to get over it or he’ll leave. So, she stayed and is now constantly in shambles. Not my problem.
Now onto the problem. She kept the wife’s baby a secret and only told her mom, who told my mom, who told my sister and I. So, they said that they were pissed because I wasn’t supposed to repeat it.
BUT I DIDN’T KNOW IT WAS CLASSIFIED INFORMATION. After like a week, that’s all everyone talked about.
Sarah’s mom (my aunt) reached out to me this morning and she said that Sarah’s problem with me is that I always said I don’t like kids and only a “horrible person” won’t like kids - and that I was mean to her about her kids 2 months ago.
2 months ago she wanted to go to a party with MJ and asked me to watch her kids. ALL THREE OF THEM. FOR FREE. I told her no because they’re untrained, I don’t feel comfortable watching a newborn - and she’ll have to pay me to put up with the other two.
So, I guess that’s why she’s still holding grudges.
Regardless, Sarah’s mom said she was having a really hard time after finding out about the “outside” baby (who technically is the inside baby as Sarah’s baby is the outside baby but whatever) and she wants me to apologize for putting her business out there for everyone.
She got my mom and sister involved so I just called Sarah and apologized. She just said “I don’t care what you have to say” and hung up.
Regardless. I held up my end of the bargain. Hopefully this gets blown over soon because ya girl is TIRED.

      @crizmeow8394 Před rokem +6

This - good analogy to describe it too.
Whenever I see someone who unexpectedly* 'over' reacts to someone else's barb, I always wonder what else the barb-maker has been doing to the reacting person.
Bullies poke, and poke, and poke (and enablers enable, and enable, and enable) until the target has finally had enough and responds by blowing up at the bully. The bully then says 'see, that person is unreasonable and being terrible to me!' Too often, everyone around the situation then demonizes the victim in favour of the bully. So, I'm often the one saying 'well, of course that person blew up. It's unreasonable to think they wouldn't after everything bully has been doing'...

Thank you all for the overwhelming responses!

Story 4 has an update from OP:
Thank you all for the overwhelming responses!

Story 1: "Why would I care about a kid who isn't mine?" "Then why should I care about what your daughters want on my son's birthday?" "wait, no, you can't do that"

Small thing that’s been bugging me: the first story update was posted four days later, not the same day.
Also, Erica deserves a way harsher judgment, at least 4/5 if not more. What she did was verbal and emotional abuse of the son, gaslighting OP and weaponizing his trauma, minor parentification of the son, emotionally manipulating the son to hide the abuse from OP, and trying to drive a wedge between OP and the son.

story 1 beating breast cancer is already a big achievement OP is a big one AH because he thinks his girlfriend's scars are something she should be ashamed of and thinking her costume wasn't sexy

have you seen what this dude has given 4 or 5’s to?? Based on his scale, which is wildly inconsistent, i’d say that story warrants about a 2.5, maybe 3. 5 is like beating your wife bruh, what if the dude is just not very emotionally intelligent and didn’t consider how his feelings would affect his girlfriend. It really wasn’t that bad

@bo_g4284 You know what I think you're right. I have a personal bias here that effected the score. I would be okay with right around 2.5 or 3. I was to harsh.

The story about spraying the kid with a hose made me laugh so hard. It's just so hilarious that the kid just kind of... accepted the punishment. He well knows that he should not be doing that, but also trusts OP to not overreact, so he does it, accepts the punishment, stays for a while and goes on his marry way. Great, wholesome story, love it!

The garden hose one: as long as the kid is okay with being cooled down with a hose after soccer practice, then it seems okay to me

Story 2: the whole "making her feel worse for her situation" is a BIG thing.
    Sh trigger warning ⚠️
It took me tears to finally feel comfortable wearing short because (though my arms are bad) my legs are BAD for scars... I used to hate myself for them because I caused them myself which started the whole cycle again because I couldn't wear shorts in fear that I would get judged or trigger someone else. I spent 8 years not wearing shorts because I hated myself so much.
But after a while I kinda got sick of the heat waves and finally put shorts on and walked around town while my anxiety freaked out. There were no new ones so I didn't have to worry about triggering someone as much but still the pain was there.
Year 3 on wearing shorts in the summer. I call my scars 'tiger stripes' and so does my bf and he has not once made me feel bad about my scars. In fact when I start getting self conscious he reminds me that he barely sees them anymore. That "they are just like tiger stripes to me eventually you just stop seeing the stripes and you start to see the tiger"

Story 1: I’ve heard this story before. What’s worse, Erica KNEW what OP went through with his stepfather, and what does she do? Act exactly like OP’s stepfather, mistreat OP’s son and use OP’s trauma to manipulate him. Her asking why should she care for a child that isn’t hers, yet wanting and manipulating OP to care for her children is so hypocritical

That last story, just for a little info, its perfectly acceptable to eat sushi with your fingers. Its much the same as eating a chicken wing/drumstick. Eating it with the chopsticks is actually a novelty introduced for american tourists.
Most Japanese restaurants will offer you a hot towel to clean hands on before you eat with your fingers.
