  • Another cold start of the Roller in GAO171V, near on zero celcius and complete with flat batteries, fantasic... Not much I can do with it in the current winter pandemic situation, it's crying out for a drive around!

The Rolls Royce Eagle is quite distinct. I often heard the sound of one in Dennis Dominators and Leyland DAF Roadtrains.

When Leyland became Leyland DAF, the roadtrain became the 80 they just had daf engines, not Cummins or what had by then become the Perkins Eagle I think although so much happened late 80's early 90's I'm probably wrong.

How long does it usually take to start on a freezing cold morning? Does it take longer when it hasn't been used for several days?

It always started like this on a cold day, if it'd sat for a while it didn't matter it was always the same. I've since sold this motor and replaced it with a Gardner one.

Days out of use should not matter. Some diesel engines need a long time to start after a time out of use even in warm weather, but that is a clear indication of an air leak in the fuel injection system. Even some modern diesel engines suffer from it. But it is not normal.
