Omg it’s kinda unbelievable they TOOK your card?! I personally would consider that theft, but what do i know! I’m so excited to see the house when you finish all the little things! I think the pink tile is so cute!!

Wow! It’s unbelievable that you have to paint and fix the fence. And that they took the card is mind blowing!

welcome to ururugay. although i have seen other comments saying that the card thing happens in other countries too, the fence really is pretty crap, the owner's mum lives next door and she gave us some supplies free of charge to fix it, but she is in her 60-70's so isn't going to help us. But honestly she is super sweet so we just appreciated the wire she gave to us! I don't mind doing the physical labour to make the house how i want it, but obviously it would have been great it if had been done before we moved it.

oh yea, i remember ING eating my American bank card when living in Europe. Needed money, instead, no money, no card and all happened during a bank holiday. had to get money wired from family through some African agency that was opened. Fun times! 😂

It appears to me that rentals are generally dirty and dysfunctional. Are there any security deposits required when you move in? If so, how come the places are not pristine? Do you typically have to pay first and last month's rent? Are there pet damage deposits? How much does it cost to hire movers? It also looks like appliances and furnishings typically are not included (like kitchen range, refrigerator, cabinets, etc) Big question for me is: are there paid storage units in and around Montevideo --- that is, can one rent secure storage units to put furnishings in temporarily -- like when one has their belongings shipped to Uruguay by container and may not have a house to put them in yet)? From your videos thus far, it appears that the standards of living in Uruguay are WAY below those of the US: crappy old buildings, dirty, poorly kept up, etc. Rentals in the US would NEVER be rented in such conditions unless you lived in the middle of a slum. Am I mistaken about Uruguay? Thinking of moving there, but honestly the quality of life appears very poor.

Most rentals require you to pay a "guarantia"
this is a long process, its only if the building is a "alquiler de dueña" - owner is renting it themselves. Then you can negotiate, but usually they would ask you for more like 3 months of rent up front.
