- All foreigners who live, lived or have visited Russia can agree on one thing, Russia is an amazing country. Now I’m not gonna do a pitch on how amazing it is. It is however, my adopted country and I can say one thing for sure, Russia gets ridiculously bad press!!!!
The reason I started this project was so we can honestly show what Russia is really like. This is to benefit anybody wanting to visit Russia and wants honest information. This is not Government sponsored or any sort of propaganda. On this site you will see the good and the bad.
My name is Sam Hyland. I am an Englishman living in Russia since 2004. I have been involved in a number of different projects during my time here and had lots of experiences, good and bad. As a foreigner, I understand the difficulties of moving to Russia (Not because Russia is a big, bad, scary country) because while it maybe big, it is far from scary! Russia is an exciting country and has lots to offer anyone who would like to give it a try.
When I first arrived in Russia, I had nobody to help me, so I found lots of foreign friends and spoke only English with them. They were my support network and if it wasn’t for them, then my life would have been very difficult.
Before arriving in Russia, I had no idea about what it would be like, it was a complete mystery. While I don’t want to ruin these first time experiences for you, I know that there are so many questions that you would like answering and through this channel I can do that for you.
I have had the chance to meet and become friends with some fantastic people and had some really amazing experiences. Russian people are extremely hospitable and I have been lucky enough to be invited to many Russian weddings, festivals, parties, events and so much more….
I live in the city of Vladimir (2 hours drive from Moscow) This is a provincial Russian town with a population of about 350,000. Usually when people think about Russia, they think of Moscow or St Pertersburg, While these are both amazing and fascinating places, there is far more to Russia than just these cities.
During my time here I have worked in a number of professions and have a large contact base. I can help you with all sorts of questions. About life, study, work and travel in Russia! And if I don’t know the answer to your question, then I’m sure I know somebody who can answer your question!

In 2012 I opened a Volunteer language school in Vladimir. For 4 years I employed volunteers from the UK who came to Russia to teach English and study Russian language. I ran this program with the association of Nottingham University, we took on many 3rd year Russian language students who lived, studied and taught in Vladimir. I have a few questions regarding this video.
Why did this guy not call the British High Commission for Consular assistance and also a local lawyer to defend him? Where are those people? He just decided to wing it himself against Russian authorities without a local lawyer to represent him or elicit consular help from the British High Commission in Moscow? Looks very suspect.
Also the timing of this video. So the Russians decided to release this video a day after his video? And they have a video crew to release these videos? What is the point of Russia releasing this video?
So this guy gets arrested in Russia, tried in court and charged and this all allegedly happened in Siberia which is long way away from St. Petersburg and anyone who is in this situation first instinct would be to hop on a plane to get far away from the Russian Federation and yet they let him go to St Petersburg and record CZcams videos?
Lot of things don’t logically add up in this sequence of events and I know his Stans would want to white knight him for this but there are gaping holes.
He did what anybody else would’ve had done in that situation. After all these years he finally got the real Russian experience. Cheers Benjamin!
What a snake, quite different from his own reported version of events. "All the cops were friendly and gave us a lift to the train station afterwards. Was a great day" made out that he was only accused of committing an "administrative offense" when actually he full on made a piece of Anti-West propaganda for Russian TV, funny how he didn't mention this video. Furthermore what he says in this video is not just him on the defensive, if you look at comments he has made on other CZcams channels videos around the invasion and after he makes the exact same sentiments.

Yes, Bald is lucky to be let go..I'm sure he thought about what he would say if arrested, but I'm sure he was hoping it wouldn't get to that point. I was very surprised that he was allowed back into Russia after his various comments the past year.. Maybe, he still had an active visa and didn't need to apply for one.. At any rate, Bald has been barred from ever visiting Russia again. I love Russia and support to a large extent what their intentions are in eastern Ukraine.. I don't like the censorship and heavy hand of the Russian government.. I guess, they're doing what they think has to be done to protect mother Russia.. Ultimately, I hope the best for all involved.. Meanwhile, expect a very difficult winter in Europe and mass protests worldwide...

I think he mentioned a lot about youtube censorship and feeling the pressure to say what the people want. Many people are specially creating content right now for the western audience, telling them that they are scared to be in Russia. I can't stand these videos.

We've known russians use suche methods for a long time.
Thats why under intimidation, torture, etc no interrogation, declaration, voting, etc can be taken seriously. Thats why nobody recognizes the referendum in crimea, becuase of russian military on ground during the voting and the "campaigning".
The western mentality needed millenia to arrive to the understanding that such things like middleage confessions under torture are inherently wrong and to be dismissed. In russia it still has some effect.

To be clear, in the UK unless you tow the Russia hating line, you are the pariah if society and losing one's job is not an impossibility. I have really enjoyed watching Balds journey through Russia. It is a fantastic country to visit and I hope that his videos have helped people become more open minded about its history.

Hi Sam. As I spent a lot of time in Russia in 2018 my opinions are based on my own experiences rather than from Balds videos. However, his videos have brought back a lot of fond memories for me. I found that the people I met in both the big cities such as Moscow, Volgograd and Vladivostok, as well as the poorer villages in Altai and Siberia were extremely generous and kind. Yes I found certain individuals to be poor and wild, but that is why I loved Russia. If someone isn’t willing to socialise with these kind of people then I believe they are missing out.
@@HaynesGarage 100% You are right. I was saddened by his videos because every city or village he went to he showed the extreme cases and everyone thinks that this is just the norm. His followers are not fans of Russia, yes there is a small crossover but the majority tune in to laugh, that is why it frustrated me that in every video it follows the same scenario. I don't feel a true picture was painted of the places he visited and the fact that he wrote in pick up forums about visiting soviet Sh** Holes to find poor girls for sex, it just reinforces my views that he knew exactly what he was doing.

I also haven’t read his comments in these pick up forums, so again I can not comment one way or another. I suppose I was drawn in to his videos because he didn’t seem to take himself seriously, whereas there are a lot of CZcamsrs that like to portray themselves and everything around them as perfect all the time. Perhaps I was fooled, but I did believe that he had an interest in Russia’s soviet history too.
There are many places that may be considered a “s*** hole”, England included. I mean I grew up on the outskirts of Luton and I hear similar remarks about my home town on a regular basis. Hey, I’ve probably even called it a “s*** hole” myself before, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not proud to be born and bred there. I do admire that Bald has actually visited these places, unlike some people who are quick to judge having never set foot in these towns and cities, or spoken to the people that live with in them.

He declared bankruptcy in 2017 because he tried to dodge credit card debt, which he's completely upfront about, but there are various other things. But he knows how to spin some BS. "I didn't mean Putin was crazy, I meant Ukraine was full of Nazis and it would be crazy not to do something about it." As far as I can tell, he probably thought he wouldn't be able to get another Russian visa after his stunt in Kazakhstan, so he decided to use the remaining time on his existing one (Russian visas are valid for 180 days and you can visit for up to 90 days in that period). And.... unsurprisingly he was arrested.

I'm sorry for what happened to the dude (Ben), but he made really stupid decisions. Think about the situation. He's a foreigner in any country but the UK. His job entails travelling MAINLY within Russia, which to anyone with common sense means staying on good terms with THAT country. He could have just done the safe thing, the wise thing, and not mentioned or taken any side at all in this conflict. But no. He decided to *OPENLY,* on his CZcams channel, say anti-Russian things including _"Слава Украине,"_ which must have really grated on the Russians last nerve. So *IN WARTIME* he took the other nation's side and openly trashed Russia (to an audience of MILLIONS) but then expected to travel freely about in that nation. If you are a foreigner in another country that has had difficult history..........dont get involved in local politics. Certainly dont broadcast opinions that are inflammatory. You would think that someone as well versed in history like bald, would be wiser. Be respectful and leave the politics to the locals. Foreign subversives are extremely dangerous, dont become one of them,either by design or by accident. Its a good rule, for content creators to keep politics out of videos........stick to the content,keep your own political bias and hearsay out of the picture.

@@RazPerignon Bald is not pro Russia. He likes the culture, history and the Russian people. But he doesn't support the government at all. He has criticized the Russian government so many times in the past, and had expressed views very strongly against the war in Ukraine. In fact so many of his videos are about the troubles that the people of Soviet Union had to go through.
In this video he was thrown in prison and trialed at court. Of course he was going to say anything to get released and leave Russia. Who in their right mind would criticize the Russian government when arrested for that charge?

He was lucky to say the right thing to avoid going to jail. In due course now he is out of Russia he can make a video and clarify matters. This segment of the video is not complete and we don't get the beginning or end of it so there is no overall context. He was critical of the invasion and that is what landed him in hot water no doubt.

That's the price he had to pay gor being a 'mischievous' vlogger. This is very interesting indeed. Do you know if this interview was in conjunction with his deportation or at another time? Watching his B & B deportation video though I wasn't convinced we were being told the whole truth. At the beginning of the video (before he was apprehended & deported) he said this was the final journey in Russia to the Pacific coast, but after he was deported he said that was the reason that it was the final Russian video. The whole story didn't seem very credible to me.
Being that Google (CZcams) is an advertising conglomorate I can well beleive they only want videos that sell and make money.

I think that this is the truth. CZcams has been censoring anyone who says anything that differs from the main Stream narrative. The thing is that even though he has said the truth, nobody will believe him! People have already written in the comments that he made the stuff up to get off lightly. This invasion and war never should have happened imo, but the continued unbalanced propagandist (or "spin" as they say now) reportings of said war on most msm in the West (and oppositely in Russia too, I guess) should never have happened either. American political news media are polarised on partisan lines up there. This is a reflection of that. 💙
@@SamsRussianAdventures there is only one correct view on Ukraine. Ukraine is a victim of Russian aggression point blank period. Anyone who disagrees is allowed to have their opinion but this is a conflict where those opinions can’t be allowed to profligate.
