Love you Sam. It is OK if I tell you that. I am old enough to be your Grandma. You are a nice young man.
Limey, all it took was one complaint, and you are back on their patriotic docket.
Within 12 hours, they pumped almost 15K views and 450 comments on your channel as if everyone in the world were to do shopping in this rathole in the middle of nowhere.
Limey, half of the shops are shut down, and none of them had any large shop sign visible from afar or from a passing vehicle. That's what Russian prosperity should look like! 😂😂😂
A nostalgic trip for me.....I lived in Ivanovo, not far from Vladimir. Used to hitch hike to Vladimir to catch the train to Moscow!! That was back in 1979..... beautiful then, even more so now!! Thanks Sam

Previously there was a manual that there are no products in Russia)) Now when they showed you that there are products, you came up with a new manual that there is no money))) Thank you very much for lifting my mood in the morning, I laughed a lot at your comment)))
@@ElceBepat first the word “manual” confused me. But then understood it meant “narrative” Not your problem but a translation thing I think. But completely agree. Somehow these fully stocked stores are still profitable without shoppers who have no money. 😊

Russell is right. The assortment of a store will say a lot, including about its owners.

😂
Exactly 😂
Not the best harsh about the dude but I am their same age and they were probably creeped out by some old and not attractive looking guy randomly walking up to these two consciouscly-cute girls with a camera and just saying „hello can I ask you a question?“
They might have thought it couldve been just some weird or pervy guy because he didnt directly state his intention what he wanted to ask. Many times westerners going to russia seem to forget normal social customs or the reserved behabiour of russians. Even all the open smiling we are used to isnt that common in russian culture atleast maybe now among younger people nowadays not sure. You saw that a lot in service especially
@@AbuHajarAlBugatti In Russia they simply don’t smile for no reason... And they smile first of all to their acquaintances and friends. Constantly smiling in Russia means that you have problems with your mind. Judging by your nickname - you come from Kazakhstan - this is also relevant there.

Superbly stocked and looks very clean - a lot cleaner than our small shops.
Great video Sam i I always love the little village shops. It has a very nice selection of goods👍👍👍👍👍
This is a great video Sam because it shows real Russia These shops are indeed full of essential products which are very well stocked so that the locals can buy food or other useful stuffs without leaving their village! Why do you think that big cities are not the "real Russia"? Less than 30% of the population now lives in rural areas.
@@13Scorpius13 I have never said it. Real Russia is either in Vladimir and in the surrounding areas, like in my country

Government, public workers and connected to those is the same anywhere. The general population as a whole are usually very nice people. This is what I did in the 12 countries I've spent time in. Show respect and you get respect back.
@@brucesmith5426 Well said. I'd add to that, that one should bite their tongue more than Canadians, Americans and Brits tend to, and not criticise everything that is done differently to what is common back in one's native country.

@@user-se3gv6bu9g I fully agree, but that seems to happen especially when Americans travel. I've now been a resident of five countries in my lifetime, and think that these differences are like the spice of life. They aren't always comfortable to one's sensibilities, and I've seen some truly brutal things, but one has to take the bad with the good and try to open one's viewpoints slowly.
This was interesting, it's great to see how small towns away from larger cities are doing. The discussions between ordinary people shows a big distinction from what we normally see on tv. Nice video as always Sam.
Reminds me of all the small local shops in Norway when I grew up in the 60`s and 70`s. Not self seviced but staff getting what tou need behind counter.
It's so heartening to see that Western sanctions have had little or no impact on Russia. What the Russian people must understand is that they are the last defence of the world against Western Imperialism.
With regards to all Russians from Nagaland, India.
What imperialism? Its russia who invaded and annexed Crimea as big as france in 2014 and now want even more country for Putins soviet fantasies because he wants to be in history books before he dies. Conquering other countries for imperial fantasies and annexing their land is literally Imperialism by definition of dictionary
Why should Russians give their lives to protect you from Western imperialism? Why can't you stand up for yourself? As a Russian, I will say that Russia pursues more than one goal in this conflict.
Which countries still have colonial policies? Russia China and India?

Where I live in the UK local shops now all stock the same junk, you go into one and it's just the same stuff as all the others. I think they all get their stock from the same cash and carry wholesalers. Russian shops look much more interesting and more varied.
I've noticed that as well. Never healthy food. Just a load of tinned stuff, bread, biscuits, maybe frozen processed things, tinnies and wine, tissues. Thassit.
You will be surprised, but in Russia everything is also mostly filled with Chinese manufacturers.. China is everywhere! They managed to ruin even the US market by 80%.
I was kind of impressed with the things that Russians seem to eat with beer. It seems more varied and healthy and is probably much more natural without all of these preservatives and high fructose corn syrup. I wonder how good the beer tends to be? That is one thing I imagine to be a highlight of British culture - the after work pint and the pub culture. I hope that does not disappear.

Сentral heating, free medicine, gas and oil industries and everything what capitalists didn't steal yet is from this maligned era.
Communism has nothing to do with it, it was a short period of Russian history like Maccartism.
I think it's great that the foreign brands have left and Russian brands now have the opportunity to fill the markets. I really wish America would fill their markets with more American products. Sanctions are not going to damper The Russian Spirit. Thx for the video, Sam!
Excellent job, Sam. As usual.
A few observations, if you don't mind:
1. We watch your channel because of you and your genuine approach to everyday life in Vladimir. Your videos don't have to be slick or perfect. That's part of the charm.
2. The Russian culture is an ancient culture. It has survived whatever has come its way. Folk cultures find a way to survive. Pop culture is always changing and is far more vulnerable to the strong winds of geopolitical, natural, and economic forces.
3. This was a very interesting video. Small and inconspicuous shops full of products that locals enjoy.
4. Maybe you could focus a few videos on local cuisine -- pelmeni or dried fish -- and go and find different places that serve it and/or even a Babushka that can explain to foreigners how to make it?
5. Get those t-shirts made -- Sam's Russian Adventures with the seal of Vladimir on it. Maybe one with "Babushka Life" on it. All with how to find you on different platforms on them.
6. There seem to be lots of churches around. Exploring them is always nice. Lots of history to explore in these buildings.
7. When the snow melts and warms up, maybe a few videos on local nature, if it makes logistical sense.
8. Never give up. Ever. You never know what these struggles are preparing you for down the road. You might become a documentarian. Remember, most of the world is filled with average, everyday people who enjoy seeing how other average, everyday people live. No matter the culture or the country. We're inundated with how the rich live and it's a fake, cold life being sold as a great life. There's nothing great about it. In the end, we all individually leave here the same -- in a cold wooden, plastic, aluminum, or steel box. Then we face God for judgment. How many likes on social media or how much money we had will mean nothing.
Mir. Blagosloveniya.
About №6. Yeah, as someone who lived in Vladimir nearly ten years? There's pleanty of it. As some locals tell me, Vladimir is a city of churches.
Add to that all other cities and villages in Vladimirskaya Oblast', many of them have churches too. And whose who believe may tell you which one is better xD
Like, then my mother wanted to "lit a candle", it was my job to drive her to Suzdal', to Kazanskaya church. Because "that one is better", apparently.
Good times.

Russia bought a lot of goods from you, and now it has begun to produce at home, well, the money remains with us and does not return to your workers, and you buy gas and oil from us only more expensive because through intermediaries. in general, you have punished yourself. What for? I do not understand, Russia is too big, sanctions will not harm it, rather, on the contrary, they will spur the development of their production since you yourself left having stopped competing. Our GDP growth in 2023 is 3.5%...Sorry if the translation is incorrect.
Hi, Sam! Thanks for a great video. I like when you smile. Some shops are closed because many villagers nowadays have their own car and can go to Vladimir for shopping. In small villages there are only convenience stores left. They are used mainly by elderly people when they need to buy small things and there is no sense to go to Vladimir for them. I know this because I myself live in Vladimir, and my brother had such a shop in a village in Vyazniki region
Sam, I wish you good luck with the channel. I like the editing with Russian Music in the car in between. That completes the Russian atmosphere which is highly appreciated. Like the interaction with the people and moreover that this is countryside which we miss because of the huge amount of videos about Moscow or bigger cities.
Really well done.
Thank you very much! That’s what I do in most of my videos. I have a 2nd channel too. It’s called B Road Russia 🇷🇺
Your home town looks beautiful. It reminds me of the little farming towns surrounding Cape Town a little more inland like Ceres Valley and Paarl and Stellenbosch here in South Africa. Dramatic landscapes featuring mountains and valleys and tall forest trees growing thick in the cloudy distance, though I'm sure it gets far colder there than I can imagine. You are very lucky I think. Those quaint little shops run by apparently good-natured and amicable people. It all seems quite pacific, wholesome and down-to-earth. I also think it inspiring the way your neighbors regard the absence of international brands that quite frankly I couldn't care less for either. "We can't get that, so we sell the Russian alternative and it's just fine. The same, even. But shame, the pensioners seem to struggle a little more." I do like your channel. I find it very novel and I think what you have to show the right kind of audience is very interesting and refreshing. More power to you, sir! 🙂
Thank you very much! I love to drive through roads with forest trees either side of me! Thanks for your feedback! Glad you enjoy my content, it means a lot to me.
The outside temperature would dispel any associations with Cape Town very quickly. ;)
I spent two years in Northern Natal and traveled all around the country and it was partly the wonderful hot weather than made me move to similar climes here in the US. Lived too long in Canada, always being cold. I don't know what it's now but I was stunned by how friendly the people were in South Africa. Not at all a place like I had expected from reading western press about the country - but is that not almost always the case?
@@1DrBar That Russian cold is a legendary cold that has utterly defeated seemingly invincible forces throughout recorded history. I don't doubt you for a second, although I'm also sure I have no idea what living in places where such temperatures are the norm must do to a person after a while. It does look beautiful there. Maybe it's that savage sort of beauty.
South Africans are indeed generally friendly people. Our issues are much like those of many others around the globe, ith perhaps an emphasis on frustrating levels of past and proven government corruption and the close proximity of concentrations of wealth and poverty. It can be a hopeful place, too. I've always had a hunch that at some point, this country's gonna facilitate the achievement of great, great things the effects of which will ripple across the globe. I just don't know when. May not even be in my lifetime. But the potential is here, among the people, waiting to be teased out by some beautiful sight, event, both. What happened here in the '90s was special. Got to see that happen. We'll see.
Matter of curiosity: I'm very poorly traveled. I wonder where it is in the US that you live that is so like here, at least climate-wise?
@@markwarrensprawson Well said. I also have had the thought that South Africa has this great potential. It is such a rich land and my father used to marvel and say "you can put a dead stick in the ground here, and it will grow". I lived many years in southern and then central Ontario, in British Columbia in the Okanagen Valley and near the Arctic Circle in the North West Territories. It was a great pleasure to move to North Carolina. Just a few days ago it was T-shirt weather for three days, though now it's in the high 50's F. It's an hour and a half to the beach and an hour and a half to the mountains, from the central Piedmont region where we live. Oddly enough the part I enjoy most now is the prevalence of sunny days.
I do not know how much any part of Russia looks like South Africa and have never thought about it like that. However, I remember driving from England and taking a beautiful country road through central Wales that finally ended at Aberystwyth and along the route it very much reminded me of places I saw in South Africa in 1976, except of course for the sunshine!
If possible, I'd like to see something on Real Estate. Doesn't have to be a entire video but just something to give a idea what houses, apartments, village houses, small farms, things like that.

Excellent video Sam. You are definitely getting to the true nature of russian way of life!
He approaches godforsaken places, and not the true nature of the Russian way of life! But as you can see, everything is in perfect order with food and other necessary goods even in the smallest and perhaps three times unnecessary villages. There are thousands of unnecessary villages in Russia that have long since become obsolete, and it is not so easy to give them a second life, to come up with a new need for their existence. In the states, the existence of such settlements would simply not be possible. In America, no one would repair and maintain power lines or water supplies for them, or supply them with food and essential goods. But Russia lives differently.
@richardparkinson - Da, authentic.
I watched your other video on why some episodes deserve more views than they actually have. I subscribed on different bloggers doing videos in English as I don't understand Russian and I noticed that I don't get your videos popping on my queue often so it must be the algorithm. While I get regular pops from the others. It's upto the yt gods who control the traffic. What I can do is try to comment as mush as possible on your videos to stir the conversation. Maybe if you have just a few followers who are dedicated in putting a comment then it may trick the algo.

Hello Samuel, don't be gone for a long time!

Very interesting.
The Russia knows how to manage the sanctions.
U.S. and European companies shoot themselves in the foot when they left Russia, thinking it would cause Russians to turn against Putin.
Now Russians are getting richer because they created new companies to replace American and European companies.
Actually placing sanctions on Russia has backfired. It has hurt America. The Government deserves that but many Americans do not.
I think the Russians surprised everyone with how they swallowed up the sanctions and became stronger from them. All the talk is of the war on the ground, but the most important war is the economic one and the Ruskies are winning it. Thats a mighty achievement.
you can't sanction a continent
@ThiagoSTeixeir4 - It is against the law to sanction a country.

Looks like my local shop in U.k I live in tiny village and prices in Village shop are always 3 times more than the nearest towns Supermarket,so i avoid unless its a Emergency.
These also exist in villages of 10-20 houses located near the city. A sort of emergency store. Some pensioner doesn't care where to watch CZcams or TV series, and she can do it in her store. But in the video there are ordinary small stores, because they have a large assortment of perishable products.
Judging by the fact that many foreign bloggers so often show stores in Russia - I can't even imagine what "terrible armageddon" has come to Russia shows Western propaganda in Western countries! )))) Sam thank you very much for your kind and honest videos! Good luck to you and happiness in Russia

Interesting Sam, I liked the way most of them were happy to let you film inside their little shops and mini supermarkets and to discuss their businesses. I wonder how it would go down in the UK. It was as if they couldn't tolerate this challenge to the accepted order of things: they can film us, but we're not allowed to film them 😂
Thank God that the foreign rubbish has gone from the shops (except the pringles!) and Russia is now holding it's own. 🤩

Loved this - really great video. You could even have spread it out over 2 or 3 videos there was so much content.
Glad you enjoyed it! I have another one coming soon.
Good, nice to see that people can still have a wide variety of stuff even outside of big cities :)
We feel the sanctions on Russia in EU :(
You are not from Poland, u are a kremlin bot
@@user-ef4oh3wh7s *"Someone doesn't agree with my irrational hatred of Russia, he/she must be a "kremlin-bot", waaa"*
*Keep on crying CIA-bot.*
We feel them in the US. People in the UK have the same job Americans have. Get these idiots out of office, and push back hard against WHO, WEF, digital currency, etc.
OH OH I think I have just fallen in love with that location. Just perfect for me in every way.
Thanks again Sam for videos. I live in Melbourne Australia. They call it one of the most livable cities in the world. Don't believe it. I know. What a perfect place you are in right now, to settle down even if you are 66 like me. I do hope technology doesn't change the beauty of that place. My local convenience store is no way as good as those you have shown. NO WAY NEAR.
This is very interesting video, for a man from small village. I like this one a lot.
Learning other languages is so important.
It doesn't look like the sanctions are doing any damages to the Russian stores.
We adaptation
The Russian people are resilient and creative for workarounds. Tough times have made them smart. Can't say the same thing about the average American nowadays - though there are still many who could be, if our government did not get in the way with so many rules.
This is true. First there was a rise in prices. Then everything stabilized. I haven’t seen any shortages anywhere.
Oh yeah, no damage at all 😂 Except for the fact prices doubled for everything and people hardly can buy anything 🎉
@@sergey3533
Prices doubled, but not your salary 😂 you are sucha idiot
The shops in Russia seem clean and well stocked . Many village shops in UK closed owing to increase in car ownership, the home freezer and bulk buying power of large supermarkets meaning prices uncompetitve. Shoppers would drive to a large supermarket once in a while for most of their needs and then use the local shop for a few top up items. I remember lots of use it or lose it campaigns. Many lost it.
Nice video, Sam. Good command of Russian language. Funny that you knew how to say smoke fish in Russian but did not remember in English. These small village stores we call here in the USA convenience stores. Keep educating the Western countries about Russia.
In the UK we have newsagents but they don’t sell food, then we also have convenience stores
Thanks Sam!!! This was a nice trip with you. I love it when you stop on the way because you find something interesting. We had some small shops like this in Sweden. But that is a long time ago. The big chains took over and gas-stations started selling groceries because back then they were open later than grocery-chains. But thing have changed a lot since then, they want us to shop 24/7 everywhere nowdays.
Thank you, Sam, for your content! Please tell your story, the differences between your place in England and in Russia, why are you here, why is not Moscow, tell about your friends there and here. I want to see your personal story as well, your thoughts, it’s so important for getting closer with bloggers. Good luck with your channel 🎉
Loved the vid, keep making and we'll keep watching. Stay up brother.
That looks like an Indian owned shop down the road from me, just a bit. It has a touch of everything you might need if you can't get into a larger town. I live in Florida. That shop also reminds me of a 'general store' I used to visit in N. Florida.
@@sergesinitsyn1347 Dobro vam je doslo braco! Bog je svemoguci uz Rusiju❤️
Actually продукты does not exactly mean "products," in this case it means groceries. Cheers !! and thank you
Stand corrected! To be honest I never even looked! I just presume it’s a shop selling products. In the UK we don’t even say Grocery store.
@@SamsRussianAdventures I enjoy your videos !!!!
You could show us a post-office inside, it also works as a shop in small villages, where they do not have actual shop.
Really great video, love this countryside area ramble. Outside, and the drop-in to the shops you highlighted. Excellent upload, peaceful location and such fine people. 20 minutes of escape. All stocked food && snacks look A-ok.
The shop opposite the church around 18:12 said ‘Otkpbito’ above the door. I know _’Otkrivenya’_ means ‘Revelation’. Does it mean ‘reveal’, or ‘open’.? Working it out empirically. Well done Sam. - a slew of ads, and romping past 20,000 views in under a day
‘Otkpbito’ mean ‘open’
Thanks! Yes! It means open! This is a searchable topic and so I don’t rely on youtube to display the video but it’s found by people searching! Most of my videos are not searchable and I am at the mercy of the youtube gods to show my content to people!
Great video, super interesting
Hi Sam, great video. You were at the top of my recommendations! I am not an expert on videos, but another idea is maybe there are small automotive/motorcycle shops you can check out. I would have loved it if you were regularly coming into my shop to see what I was working on. Not talking about a big busy shop like where you bring your vehicle. If you bring alcohol, how could they not like you. Just an idea. I like watching your videos so don't stop. Pet Ksusha for me 😺

i liked the video Sam, that looked like well stocked stores to me.
looking at the numbers (10k views with 9hours up) that looks healthy today!
Have a good one
Local shops often carry more local products, because farmers and other producers can get a foot in the door.
If they know you, you can even buy stuff on credit; try that in a large chain store!
Yes! I saw a person buying on credit!
You must be pretty poor if you need to buy groceries on credit though
@@AbuHajarAlBugatti everyone can’t be as rich and happy as you seem to be
I live in Las Vegas & we have ONE Russian store (actually it’s in Henderson, Nevada) & it looks just like the store you’re in.
To answer your question about Russians coming into an American grocery store, most Russians run away.
I was staying in San Diego & heard a Russian couple talking & I said “hello” in Russian & they both looked at me like I was KGB.
I’m happy to know my Russian could still get me arrested & released.
Thank you, this was nice!!!

Great Video...i see the views are going :)
Hope so! Thank you! 🙏
Thanks Sam, nice video.
Nice work, Sam.
Great video, loving the little cafe at the end....... reminds me of a truck stop...
A lot of shops are closed due to winter season lacking of dachniks (city dwellers who has a house in rural area for summer dayoffs).
I was told those shops have been closed for a long time.
Great video! I love seeing the small out of the way shops. I am in the US mid west. When I was a kid we had several small shops what we called mom and pop grocery stores. Each one was unique in it's own way. Now they are all gone. It's all big box stores now. I have been following Russell for awhile now. He does good work too. I just saw his Russian swimming club one. I don't see how Russians get into the water when it's like zero degrees outside. Interesting though.
People can relate to shopping differences, this is interesting and engaging to audience. Cover prices, its easy to convert due to exchange rate of approx 100 to 1. I would also enjoy seeing how some of native foods are actuslly cooked and served.
I’ve done a few videos about food. I’m not so good at cooking Russian recipes. Though I’ve shown food in restaurants many times.
howd, howdy -- -- my wife does most of my cloths shopping--- i care not about name brand i care about clean and holds up to my needs. many of my cloths come from 2nd hand stores and the like.. only thing i will not compromise on is socks and underwear. i enjoy your channel... i really like the ones when snow is abundant , makes my watching more enjoyable. thanks
Hi! Thanks for sharing! I cared about brands only when I was younger!
Those shops are much better stocked than shops I visited in the USSR in1978.
I’d had loved to have visited during that time! I’m sure it was a great experience.
Very interesting, thanks for the video
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice video and it's good to see how things are so different than the way Russia is often portrayed. I would think however that one should buy a samll item in exchange for the permission to film. It would cast foreigners in a better light in the eyes of locals.
I chat with the shop owners quite a bit off camera
Great video, enjoyed watching. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank!

I like the signs over the department selling booze and tobacco (6:27). The one on the left says "Drinking is exercising in insanity". The one on the right says "Smoking is only harmful for a living person".
