For the unprofessional format of videography, the review is very good and thorough. U might be good at thiss
I'm so mad this 100% rgb variant is only available in certain regions, and didn't include mine!!
I bought the same from Taobao here in this link for $740usd and this is really having a great display. But be ssure that the windows is in Chinese and language cannot be changed. So you have to change the whole windows.

yea i was thinking about this. its only 630€ right now on campuspoint (if it comes into stock at mid of march), but its preconfigured with the bad screen...
according to some lenovo sites the preconfigured models with good screens only come to italy? i could be wrong though...
anyway its out of stock on the lenovo site and cant even be configured...
too bad, i was really considering.
but listening to the latest hardware news i can still wait :P the future will be fast
i want 4K in this small formfactor. or 120 hz. actually i would love a zephyrus g14, as the cheapest models price comparable to this! 900€ at their lowest point. have risen again unfortunately.
In Malaysia it's only available on the 15 inch with Intel 11th gen.
MUCH BETTER video than usual professionists that test quality like to hide something
Also, did you drop your camera in water? It seems a little foggy
@@maxfight9819 That my friend, is the oneplus camera quality
@@PJ0J0 Ouch burrrrn! Lol!
Very good video, I might buy this laptop if availability becomes better and I can find a good config.
Informative _and_ funny! Great review. 👍
Leuke video en recensie... Te goede vriend!
Great video! Would you be willing to make a video on this laptop's gaming capabilities (minecraft with shaders, total war, etc.)? I think it would be very interesting.
I haven't tested games yet, but there are already quite a lot of gaming test videos on the ideapad 5 15 inch (larger model) with the same processor. I think they should perform roughly the same, aside from thermals.
@@PJ0J0 I'm aware. I was hoping for more games to be tested though since I'm not satisfied. Thank you!
I think this is the best review I have seen of this laptop, I just bought it, thanks!!
Hi, was the 100% sRGB screen worth it? Was wondering if I Should get this or, for the same, price get one with lower screen but with RTX 3050.
Loved how you thrashed Apple icon !
The nicest review one could find anywhere. Subscribed to your channel !
I do have a few questions, I'd really appreciate your suggestion.
1) How do you think it would fare in comparison to Lenovo IdeaPad 5 4700u 14" in terms of performance?
2) Can you suggest me a decent laptop with 16Gb RAM, 500GB SSD for Data Science projects and Software & Web Development? Not much of a heavy graphics requirement. My budget is < $800.
I believe I read somewhere that the performance upgrade of 4700U from 4500U is about 20%, not sure. (I suggest going to the subreddit "r/AMDLaptops" for more information).
For data science a cpu with at least 4 cores (4500U has 6 cores) and I guess for large data sets you need some ram (8 or 16 gb should be fine?) and a fast storage (get SSD), but I am no expert on this. Subreddit "r/SuggestALaptop" could help you out more.
I would personally suggest getting the ideapad 5 15 inch (larger laptop version), as that one doesn't need a laptop stand and is cheaper (That one does have a about 70% sRGB screen, but a bigger 70Wh battery configuration).
@@PJ0J0 Thank you for responding. I'll wait for the 4700U version until then.
Hahaha
Vo
3:04 Same trackpad issue on mine I showed in my review also, but on the right side! Annoying but I opted to keep it rather than returning so I'll live with it I guess. Maybe there is a way to fix it like some Dell XPS users did that had a similar/same issue recently.
Hey, I have a question and the end of the video, you say it's not as good for video editing, why is that? And what would you recommend otherwise?
The time to export a video (store it as a video file after editing) took about 13 minutes. This is pretty long considering that computers with a dedicated video card could export it in less than 5 minutes. So you should go for a laptop with that dedicated graphics card.
The apple sticker is so funny my sister does that too stick those anywhere they don’t belong 😂💔
Do you think it'll be a noticeable difference between this and a ThinkPad's (T14) build quality? Mainly because of the 400€ gap between those in roughly the same specs
I believe I read somewhere that thinkpads are build like tanks. having military grade durability, with a lot of water, heat, shock, vibration and even decay resistance. This ideapad 5 is quite sturdy, but probably doesn't have those resistances. You can evaluate if that kind of durability is important for you. But do check if your specific thinkpad model has those military grades.
My next laptop, probably :p
Just gotta wait for it to be available anywhere XD
If you game a lot, maybe you can also wait until an AMD laptop gets released with a dedicated graphics card. I believe more good stuff comes out from August to October.
@@PJ0J0 I game a lot, but I do that on my PC :)
You've specced your machine the exact same way I have, except I got the darker colour. It left the China factory today, so I'm excited to get my handa on it! How do you like it?
Hahah cool, so far it is a great machine. I prefer the lighter colour, because it doesn't show fingerprints. Once it arrives test it thoroughly for any production defects! (I followed the tests in one of the videos of 'Just Josh' that I linked)
@@PJ0J0 yo big up just josh thats why i purchased this laptop too. shipping taking forever tho lol
Good video. Sadly its not available in my country yet...
May i ask, what is the purpose of conservation mode in lenovo vantage is it okay to use that while plugged in and using every day and heavy usage?
The conservation mode is such that the battery is charged up to only 60%, use this if you keep the laptop on the power adapter anyway. This will help keep the battery healthy for a longer time (you might have noticed everytime you buy a brand new phone or laptop, it is only charged to 60% for preservation).
Do you have that strange short electric sound every time cooler starts to work (?)
While the fans are spinning hard, I could only hear some coil winding (electrical static noises) when holding my ear against the bottom of the laptop. Otherwise I would not have noticed, as the fan makes more noise.
It's the coil whine from the M.2 SSD. I have a different ideapad, and I thought it was defective until I realised that it was the SSD. Kinda crazy how a drive that doesn't have any moving mechanical parts can produce sounds.
Which wireless mouse will be compatible for this model? I have bought Logitech M235 but not able to plug in to the port.. Please suggest.
This laptop has two "USB-A 3.1 first gen" ports, so Google for a mouse compatible with this. I'm using a bluetooth mouse with a "USB-A 2.0" connector. Good luck finding the right one!
I'm so sad my version didn't come with fingerprint scanner on the power button :(
I have exactly the same specs but with 4600U instead..super satisfied
one question tho!
I bought the 2,4mm bezels version, it's supposed to be 100%srgb
But how to make sure of that?
what is the panel model you have? on hwinfo?
My display panel is the "Unknown model CMN1408" by Chi Mei according to hwinfo (also shown in the video screenshots). In order to measure the colour accuracy, you need an external colour calibrator (which I don't have). A quick and dirty way to check this is to print a colour accurate image, and check if you display image is the same. I'd recommend checking out this video for more information: czcams.com/video/f1PCG5hXUmE/video.html
@@PJ0J0 seems we are all getting different 100%srgb panels lol
mine is B140HAN06.8 from AU Optronics.
Which lenovo online region did you buy it from?
@@albythomas8804 sweden
I have one of these, and the touchpad also has the slight looseness on it but on the right side. Annoying but not enough to send it back. I saw a post on reddit where the user also has the touchpad slight looseness, so I'm not confident a replacement won't have the same issue.
What is that wireless mouse you are using? Seems pretty nice. Also is the 100% srgb panel a touch screen or not?
Yeah, I bought my "wireless ryan mouse" in Korea at the official kakao friends store. I
do think my panel is 100% srgb, haven't measured it, but the colours look vivid.
Hi cany you pleas show how durable is the screen frame? Is it easy to brake flexing it?
The lid is made of aluminium and it feels very sturdy, so it won't break easily in my estimation.
How does that joined 'enter' key work? Can you press any of the two joined keys and get 'enter'? Or do you have to switch this function on?
The 'enter' key with the 'vertical bar-backslash' are two separate keys that look conjoined. So they just work like regular keys.
@@PJ0J0 Oh..:) So I wonder, why the effort to make it look conjoined then.
Or, at least, they could have extended the Enter key upwards a bit, instead of making the bar/slash key bigger.
Damn i guess the new lenovos really does have that issue at 3:00 mine also has it.. I had the laptop replaced from the store then boom the replacement has the same problem.
Hey.. i have the same laptop. I wonder what scale % use for comfortable work.. i try with 150% 125% and i`m not ok (many times i see it blurred) :( 100% looks clear but very very small... so how is with you?
I use 105% :)
is the fan too loud?
how is the temperature??
does it throttle in heavy load??
The fan is only loud and the temperature is only warmer under heavy loud.
On regular use, there is no fan noise but sometimes a random audible fan spin (pulsing), the deck feels cold. I haven't experienced any throttling issues so far.
How does this compare to the intel 10genG i7 16gb, 1TB ssd ?
I don't own a intel 10 gen i7 computer unfortunately, so I can't tell you for sure. But the 10th geni7 in the ideapad has the standard 4 cores 8 threats, while the AMD Ryzen 5 in my laptop has 6 cores and 6 threats. More cores is comparable to having more hands for the pc to do the work.
I think currently amd ryzen is more energy efficient, and more valuable in terms of raw power. While intel 10th gen is a bit overpriced.
How is the camera and the battery life and does it over heat?
The camera is 720p, but pretty bad. So I would only use it for video calls. The battery life is really good, up to 10 hours on light use. It does heat up when playing games like lotro and the fans go wild. It also warms up when charging and using it at the same time. The keyboard will be a bit warmer and the right bottom of the screen, but the rest still feels cold. The source of heat will be mainly at the right upper side of the keyboard. Moreover, it barely warms up on light use.
Do you know the srgb percentage of the default display?
Probably 65% sRGB ( which is 45% NTSC). You can check for yourself: On Lenovo's official website for your region specifically look at the "display" tab under "technical specification".
So there's really a 100% sRGB variant for this unit? Because I would like to buy this June 30 and I'm so bothered with the reviews taht the color accuracy of this laptop is bad, it's only 54% for the Ryzen 5 4500U. 😩
If you can order via lenovo's official website, you might be able to get 100%srgb with the right configuration selected. I put my configuration in the description. Good luck! (P.S. in the 1st minute of my newer review, it shows you how to do this.)
USE LENOVO DISCOUNT CODES/ ECOUPONS IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO BUY ONE. JUST SEARCH FOR THEM ON GOOGLE.
I am planning to buy the 8 GB varient. Can I reduce the memory allocated ram for Radeon graphics??
I did that on my 16gb model, so I think you can do it with 8 aswell
@@tariq4119How much was the memory allocated to it.
@@emiljose2760 I increased the vram to 2gb, but you can increase it all the way up to 4
Got mine today, touchpad is also a bit loose, but on the right side. Otherwise great laptop. Btw 100% srgb screen comes only with the metal keyboard plate.
Also got mine recently. The touchpad is loose on the left side. Seems to be a faulty engineering problem at Lenovo.
josef h yeah. I guess that’s the only drawback of the laptop. Anyway best solution for the price
Am I the only one who feels that sometimes this touchpad doesn't recognize a single tap? With a "soft" pressure, I mean. I have to tap more times
Alessandro Spiriticchio didn’t notice that, sorry. really seems like that touchpad is the weak spot of that laptop. maybe you should try to return it by warranty if you think that it shouldn’t be like this and get another one?
Which region did you get the 100%srgb model from cause I can't seem to find it
I have one query .... can this laptop output 4k at 60hzs because this is the only things extending my purchase decision
The highest resolution the screen/panel can display is FHD (1920x1080) at 60 Hz. The hdmi-port is HDMI 1.4, so it will run 4K only at 30 Hz on external monitors.
@@PJ0J0 Doesn't the USB-C port also output 4k/60hz (via Display Port)?
where did u buy this cute laptop mouse
?
I got it from the "Kakao store" in South Korea. Google "Ryan mouse" to find it too!
I ordered this model: www.lenovo.com/be/nl/laptops/ideapad/s-series/IdeaPad-5-14ARE05/p/81YM00AMMB I hope it will be as good as yours
Website shows only 45% nstc!!! U have 72% nstc /100% srgb!!! Cool
How only he got 100% srgb 😅😅🙄🙄🙄
LoL
If it had 100% it would be such a nice machine!!
There’s a variant with a100% sRGB display if you guys didn’t know

Need to know upgradability options
Soldered RAM, so no upgradability there. However there are two SSD storage slots, one M.2 Type-2280 and M.2 Type-2242. So storage is upgradable. Not sure if the Wi-Fi card or battery are soldered, but they should be replaceable (hopefully).
@@PJ0J0 Bro one question, i got Lenovo Ideapad 5 14 are05 Ryzen 5 4500U with 256 GB SSD(idk if i'ts the same laptop than the you're showing in your video), can i put another SSD without removing my 256 GB SSD? And how much does it accept the second storage? And how much GB can i totally have? Also i read in a comment that both storage slots can't work simultanoesly, is that true? Sorry for my bad english.
I have this with 8GB variant. But I cant find pause/break key. Where is it?
I believe once you get to fullscreen mode on for example youtube, certain keys are bound to functions for example pause/break. I would say try smashing some keys while watching a video.
@@PJ0J0 I mean pause/breake key on keyboard like insert , home , delete, pg up & pg down, etc. But I cant find pauae/break key on Slim 5 keyboard.

@@nothingtodo5987 Oh hahah right, then I'm afraid there's no such key on this compact keyboard

The specs available for the US markets are extremely limited. I don't think you can get any more than 8gb of ram in any of the configurations. :/
Benjamin Le thats so disappointing :/ ty though!
That's one pale banana
And for the games?
I played some games (CS:GO, Minecraft, LOTRO) on it and covered it in my new video.
Can you maybe game on it a little?
Casually gaming works fine, but you need to lower the graphical settings in demanding games.
How did u get 100% srgb while website says a 65% 😅😅🙄🙄
The trick is to live in the Netherlands and to buy the model with a 2.4 mm panel or configure it that way (has 100% sRGB screen), while it is in stock.
Unfortunately, indeed the 100% sRGB panel is out of stock currently.
i have the same trackpad issue on the right side lmao
Me too! On the right side! I did a review showing it. Annoying I have to say.
vega 6 or vega 8???
6!!! (According to the 6 cores in AMD Ryzen 4500U)
@@PJ0J0 tq
How long did the shipping take?
I ordered it on the 9th of June and received it on June 26 I think, so that's about 2 and a half week.
lmao JUST JOSH
Just so you guys know before buying from Lenovo. Their customer service is trash. I bought this laptop 4 weeks ago, they keep delaying shipment (still on manufacturing) and don't even offer an estimate shipping date. I called them and it will take more 6 weeks but they said it might take even longer, no estimate. I asked then to cancel the purchase and get a refund and I was denied. In conclusion, I paid full price 1 month ago, no laptop with me and not even a solid estimate on when this shit will arrive.
Yeah, the shipping time sucks currently and I think the quality control isn't that good. Fortunately, you can upgrade your warranty quite easily to get things fixed (but this does cost some extra time and money though).
@@PJ0J0 Thanks for the tip but they will not get another single cent from me. I'm trying to get it cancelled and I will be getting the new Ryzen Dell Inspiron.
@@xamineh How is that? I been hearing a lot of bad reviews from them too, quality after 1 month is rubbish, service is non-contactable and delivery is like a month?
@@AngelaChristineK I couldn't cancel it and I ended up waiting and received the laptop. It came with 2 quality control issues. I contacted customer service via email and Lenovo Vantage app and they did not reply to me at all. I tried to call them but the number does not exist. Here a video of the issues: czcams.com/video/-TknnmGLPEk/video.html
It is only 65% srgb
That would be about right for the cheaper panel options I believe.
