Lenovo IdeaPad 5 - AMD Ryzen 4000 on the throne

- Lenovo IdeaPad 5 14ARE05 is perhaps the best indicator of the impact that the AMD Zen2 CPU's will have now that they are finally hitting the mobile market. Intel is no longer the leader in the segment which was traditionally one of its strongholds. How much has AMD improved with Ryzen 4000 APU's, and what has Lenovo done with the AMD based Ideapad 5, check out in our in-depth review...

My older version with a ryzen 3000 series got lost in transit after sending it in for repair and they just emailed me saying they would upgrade me to this
Holy shit. That is kinda dope ngl
If you didn't have any important files on it then this is like the absolute best case scenario for what could have happened. The jump from Ryzen 3000 mobile to 4000 mobile is huge
@@DeathPerMinute ikr, all i had was gta 5 but i had the files backed up
Try sending the new lappy in for repair when Zen 3 mobile CPUs are out, chances are you will get something with Ryzen 5500U
@@investjournal didn't even think about that
That was some superb detailed review... love the way you covered all the important points that are necessary for any notebook users.
Kudos to you & your team. Would be waiting for future content.
Underrated channel. You’re so good at this point, it’s a matter of getting discovered. I see you hitting 100k subs in less than a year.
So much value in such cheap price. I can't even believe this thing exists. huge win for both AMD and Lenovo!
Nice review man! It's much appreciated.
Thanks man. I was initially worried about the color gamut but you showed a lot of the screen in action. I must say, I'm not as worried. Pre-ordered mine. 🖖
I love you 😍
LETS GOOOOO the hardware rendering finally avaliable !!!
give these guy a million subs damn underrated guy soon you would large audience keep the good work going
They have a Serbian channel that is really good with a lot of subs. Good quality.
Very nice and complete review!!! Thanks a lot!

Really good review. Lot‘s of details.
Great laptop with quality and performance with amazing price. Purchased for my cousin. Thanks for review.
Hey Bench House - great review and video quality! I have a question about that usb c port -
It does power delivery and display port right? Does it data too? Can I use it as a one cable solution with the thinkpad usb c dock?
" These results were accomplished in an ultra light notebook, which was not possible on intel laptops "
what timeline is this
Besides the display everything is amazing
What a great review. Ticked all the boxes of the things I wanted to know. Nice work!
Amazing review sir. More subs to come🤗
Great explanation and great video . Keep it up
I'm looking for a laptop with 180 degree hinge (ideally clamshell), and can never find this info mentioned by manufacturer or reviewers. So big thanks and thumbs up for mentioning ... and nice review !
180° only on Thinkpads, not Ideapads
I read that the type c support power and display out .-. Laptpp with display out feature is what ive been waiting for
Can you make review of the Ideapad Slim 5? The ultrabook one.
Can you please compare this to the lenovo ideapad 5 intel version with mx530?
can you add another ram? like does it have another slot for an upgrade?
Amd 4000 powered laptop only exists in CZcams. I am waiting for 2 months. Still haven't got a delivery date
How good is this machine for a software professional running Intellij Idea or Eclipse IDE, some database application like Oracle / MySQL and lots of chrome tabs open along with a bash terminal open?
Glad to hear a comparison of the screen between this and the Honor Magicbook, because they are similarly priced and I am considering both. I trust Lenovo more to be honest!
When is it available in indonesia?
Hello. Is the smaller ssd slot a 2242 o 2230?
best laptop of future will be the x1 carbon and x1 yoga series with ryzen 4000 and 5000 apus with OLED screens and pen, 15.6/16" with 4-6 part speaker set up, with 90wh battery

I'm wondering if I get the Acer Swift 3, whether it will last me the same number of years. I had an Asus last time, the adaptor died on me. A dell inspiron after that, the hard disk died on me.
will you review the thinkpad e14 g2? is it worth over this guy, for the same price? thanks
Nice video.
what sku variant of the 14ARE05 is this unit?

Thinkpad E15 Gen2 with Ryzen 4000 please
this ideapad 5 or the huawei matebook 14?
Hi need help. I can configure both Ideapads; 16gb ram, Wna display (300nitts), backlit keyboard, fingerprint reader and 56.5Wh for both Intel and AMD versions. Intel one cost £553 and AMD £557. Which one is best for performance (streaming, CZcams etc)?
what about fan noise? =)
I got my T14s a few days ago. Throttles like mad, the 4750U PRO is an 8c/16t beast but never can live up to it's potential. Having said that, the +900 Euro price increase over this Ideapad is hard to justify in my opinion. Might return the (awesomely built) T14s.
blackandcold new ideapads are all metal. But that’s not my point. The build and chassis of the T14s is great no doubt about that, but it’s crippling the ryzen 7 as it can’t keep it cool. It’s throttling all over the place and just comparing performance to the Ideapads - which seem to have better cooling - it’s tough to justify the extra money - for me. I hope a T14 with a R5 will be able to run as close to best possible performance.
blackandcold might get the T14 with R5 in the hopes of better thermals! :)
Does it have extra RAM slot?
Excellent 👌
great review btw..could i ask you..can the usb-c port in this device linked to LAN rj45 with usb-c adapter ? tq
Thanks!
You can plug in a LAN to USB-C adapter, or any USB LAN adapter via USB-C to USB-A adapter.
Which is better for programming ryzen 45000U or intel i5 10genG1??
Nice video sir
Hello can it run lumion?
Lenovo laptops last longer than other brands ? I've had this lenovo celeron since 2013..... still usable with the occassional hang whilst using chrome. Maybe I opened too many programs and chrome tabs.
the seller told me that the 14ARE05 model is all plastic, are you sure yours is that model or was he wrong. (don't want to be boring, it's just that i want to buy this laptop)
Do all models have led lights inside keyboard???????
Out of stock.
Is this better than the LG gram 17?
is it a touch screen?
hi nice review mate, one question does this laptop have metal body or is it plastic all over? thanks
Some regions are all aluminium on the 14", and some are part plastic on both 14" and 15" model. Where are you located?
@@a.r.1611 I'm from Greece
in the video he said "all aluminium"
I just bought it a couple of weeks ago. Price in Germany is EUR 699 ans is often out of stock. There are discount deals every now and then thanks to that I got it for EUR 650. Are you sure about the sRGB coverage? I have the same machine and I think the ones (at least in Germany) that came with Aluminum casing on 14 inch size have 100% sRGB IPS panels. Also, this exact machine in Germany comes with Windows 10 Home.
Btw, for anyone wondering, Linux OS runs great on this machine out of the box - everything works (wifi, backlight, touchpad, etc). The only thing that does not work is the fingerprint reader - but that I don't use anyway ;)
anyone knows where we can buy a silicone keyboard cover for this specific laptop? thanks
thanks!
Can u please help me out. I want to disable the startup when I open the lid of the laptop. How do I access bios. Can u make a video abt it. I would really appreciate it.

Could you do a review of the Lenovo Thinkpad E14 Gen2 (AMD)? They are almost similar pricing to the Ideapad 5
what is the difference between them?
Is it touch screen ?
How many price this laptop have?
Hello! Very detailed and nice review. I am concerned about the fast charge. Won't it affect the overall battery health of the device negatively? Say I intend to use the computer for 3 years and if I use the fast charge I fear it will degrade the health of the battery after 2-3 years of use.
no it would not
no ethernet connection ?
I want the 15.6 inch but it’s more rare than a unicorn
Hi do you recommend this one with an intel processor i5?
did you get your answer?
Is there any other amd offer with more colour accurate display? There are a lot of options with these less accurate displays, but these are dealbreakers for someone who would like to edit photos or videos...
lenovo yoga slim 7 amd version
Would you say this laptop (with the R7 4700U, tho) could handle LIGHT video editing at 1080p@60fps or 4K@30fps? At the same price point, for that kind o video editing, which IdeaPad5 would you pick: the R7 4700U + Vega or the i7-1065G7+MX350?
although i prefer discrete/dedicated gpu, ryzen 4700u has better performance, specially in multicore based on this benchmark.

Hello ! I just got my ideapad 5 14 "
with 8 gb of ram including 7.32 gb usable but that's not the problem
when I go to the task manager I notice that I have 3.45gb of available ram left, 45% of the memory is used.
Do you have that too? is it windows? What should I do
pretty sure windows + bloatware + stuff you have downloaded use that ram. thats why you should buy 16gb if soldered.
Which version do u bought? If its ryzen version, it probably would take some 500/1/2GB ram for shared memory. I,d go with Intel + nvidia mx330 2gb instead
Can you provide a link for it?

The ideapad 5 15 is even better. More nits than the 14 display and easier to read on
Was seeming perfect until you said one of the USB ports doubles as the charging port. I use laptops like portable computers that I can easily take from point A to point B more than a mobile device where I'm using it in the park or on a bus. I'm usually plugged up for max performance so that means basically 100% of the time I'm using for something I couldn't do on a phone, I'm losing a USB port... and I use a lot of peripherals so I really need my ports :(
Dongle life. It's been a reality forever in Mac world 🤷♂️
I will personally go after the hp omen 15 with the ryzen 7 4800h and rtx 2060
or 1660 ti
of course it gets only 70 degrees, cause it is when the thermal throttling kicks in.

Beware: quality control is terrible. Mine came with rattling touchpad and the right shift button pressed down. Lenovo's customer service is fucking terrible. They ghosted my after 10 ways of dodgy emails and misinformation.
Don't they have their ram soldered on? The base model ram wise 8gb is way cheaper then the 16gb model so they are simply extorting you of money....

guys i need some help on what laptop to buy. Im a student and want do play gta 5 and fifa 20 with decent fps. My current laptop is 1 which gets 50fps on fifa and max 45, average 35 on gta. Which laptop should i go for?
1. lenovo ideapad s340 8gb, ryzen 7 3700u, 2gb vega 10 graphics
2. lenovo ideapad 5 16gb, i7-1065G7, GeForce MX350 2gb
3. lenovo ideapad 5 8gb, rzyen 7 4700u, integrated radaeon gpu(think vega 6)
4. same as 3 but with rzyen 5 4500u
Imho, r5 4500u will give you what you need, but 4700 is the best option, mx350 is stronger but that i7 combination gonna cost a whole lot more money compared to r7 4700u
James Wirya what about the i5 variant with the mx350, is it better than the 4700u?
@@Nathaneal51 mx350 is clearly much stronger than the 4500u igpu or even 4700u
