these headstones are much easier to read and less washed away than here in the States. what type of stone is used and are they in the same condition from that time frame. I really like your channel thank you so much for your time to bring these Cemetery's for us to see

The markers reflect the Quaker testimony of equality so they used to have no markers(headstones) at all, they they used wood and slate, I think now they still use simple graves and everyone seems to have the same headstone, which I think are probably granite. Some are very hard to read where as others are easier.

This is very interesting. We have a Quaker meeting house about 7 miles away as well as a few of their burial grounds or a section devoted to their burials in local cemeteries. Many of the names you are seeing there are the same as those seen here in Vermilion co. Illinois. I was unaware that we had a Quaker community until I was introduced to my friend Anna. She is the person who told me of their customs and she was kind enough to take me to one of their services. She also showed me their graves as well as the private (headstone less) graves of the Amish.

Are there still Friends of Cooladine ( Quakers) in Ireland? If they are still in Ireland they need to raise money to maintain this graveyard. Quakers were staunch opponents of slavery and their graves should be kept in good condition.

I’ve subbed to your channel as it reminds me of when my dear late mother & myself use to walk around the ancient church yards & marvel at the old tomb stones when I was a child. I'm surprised to see the graveyard so neglected. There is another Quaker graveyard in Rosenallis, Laois, where William Edmundson, the first Quaker in Ireland is buried and it it beautifully maintained (At least it was when I was there last). There must be no Quakers left in the Cooladine area which is a real shame and a loss to the community.

Great video thx. If you are ever in Co Mayo, Ballycastle, In the catholic church, right at the back there is what was called the grave of the unknown soldier, named now. And has a stone. He was the last body to be washed up from the sinking of the anadorra star, a cruise ship taking german and italian prisoners to canada i think, and was ironically sank by a Uboat, i forget his name but my ex gf lived there. and he was from Devon where i live in England, he has a sad story and a very young man being a guard on the ship. Again thanks for the great video. One more thing. Strangely before finding this out, i bought a menu from the Anadorra star at an antique shop, and he lived near me, and my girlfriend was in Ballycastle, how strange ? .
