A decade later, we have the EPIC E1000 Gx fully certified turboprop aircraft. A remarkable all carbon fiber design that delivers jet-like speeds, range, and payload.
Epic E1000 is a 4 passenger turboprop airplane with 2 crew members. Because this plane needs only one pilot to fly it, you can practically cary up to 5 passengers. Cabin is plenty roomy with ample leg room in the back. Compared to the smaller TBM 940 and Piper M600, the E1000 stands out in cabin space, payload and speed performance.
The only other aircraft I can compare this aircraft to is the Pilatus PC-12. When it comes to practicality and pricing, I'm still not sure anything comes close to the PC-12 in cost to value ratio. The Epic E1000 is certainly close. For a whopping $4.1 million dollars you can get your hands on a brand new Epic aircraft.
EPIC E1000 PERFORMANCE
Capacity: 6 people
Engine: PT6A-67A 1200 SHP
Range: 1560 NM (1794 miles)
Speed: 333 KTS (382 mph)
Price: $4.1M

I bought one literally the first day I could and I had my first flight in it 2 days ago. I've never experienced anything like it. The climb alone feels like you're in a fighter jet, which I've also flown in. I was averaging 4100fpm on climb out with 3/4 fuel and 3 passengers. So glad I made the right choice in getting one of these instead of a TBM or Piper
You’re a bullshitter
They need more videos with this plane taking trips. But the specs on this plane are impressive, especially the cruise speed, service ceiling and climb rate!!
And the cost. EPIC!!!
Really awesome! I first discovered this plane on X-Plane 11 and it's so great to finally see its recognition in the real world!
Check out heavyD here on CZcams, he has one for about 18 months now
Great review! Cabin volume for the 960 is only 123 cubic feet. Epic is 184. That is a huge difference! The passengers in the back of the TBM won't have enough leg room if someone is across from them, unless it's a very short person or a child.
I have over 300 hours in this airplane. I can tell you it is legit. Full fuel, full payload and it still hits its published numbers of FL340 at 320kts. Burns about 48 gallons/hr. Having the ability to get that high gets us over most of the weather. Chicago to south Florida nonstop every time. Great plane for the money. Range? How about south Florida to Bend, Oregon with 1 fuel stop against the wind. Best in class.
Thanks for the personal insight. Does your operation usually only use one pilot or do you fly with SIC as well?
It range is around 1195 nm full fuel and 2 pax with 2 seats open. Ghe TBM 900 series all push 1475 to 1550 nm range. I put 100 hrs in one of these, there's only 71 in the world, most are fleet owners. We could push 315 at FL320. In the TBM 910 & 930 I could fill with full fuel and 5 pax, fully loaded and do 330 kts at FL300. The Elic is an interesting plane but having been a kit from day one for over 8.5 yrs snd then become certified means there are lots of bugs to work out still. Plus incase folks don't know, the TBM started life as a Mooney corporate concept hence the M in TBM. It failed due lack of interest in a 245-260 kt single piston. Stuffing a PT6, Allison or Garrett in its nose made the difference though huh.
have your passengers ever screamed for a bathroom on those long flights?
I routinely see on FlightAware these aircraft making 400 miles an hour over the ground eastbound!
PC 12 NG has a WC - in the end, that's priceless!
I believe the PC 12 NGX has a max cruise of 290 knts. with a much bigger cabin and a further nm range and more payload. The Epic 1000 would still be a fast sports car that will definitely appeal to those seek sleek speed. Nice aircraft. Great review.
Great review Mike, thanks!
Hi Mike. I really appreciate your videos. Thank you for showing the specs and plenty of detail, including the cockpit!
Great video my brother. Love your work, keep up the great content. 👍🏼🇺🇸
That is a really nice bird. I saw your previous videos and I was skeptical that they would be able to become certified. Good for them! I want to see it fly! Be well brother.
I wasn't aware this was FAA Certified and really it's my first time really learning about it :)))) Nice job and thanks Mike :))
Great job, keep up the work you're doing very informative, and at the same time very detailed and explaining each and every point, that you make. Today is May 10th 2022
If they can keep the maintenance cost in check, they will have an absolute winner. The TBM has some wild and crazy maintenance items that kind of negate the economy of the SETP, especially at 6 seats...
Mike, this is my favorite airplane. Can't wait for this machine to be available in MSFS 2020.
Cup holders are a $395,000 upgrade.
thats funny!
I know little-to-nothing about aviation. But I love your reviews and updates. 300 KTS! Your enthusiasm is contagious.👍
nice job on the video!!! thx.
I have used the prototype as a pace plane in Reno to launch jets to race and it’s fast!
Beautiful sleek turboprop. Its the best looking plane in its class by a mile
Was just looking at newer turboprop aircraft yesterday.. really like the Pilatus 🤑
Thanks for the video Mike, but if I were going for a single engine turboprop, it would be a PC-12. Frankly, I think a single engine turboprop is a very expensive way to fly around the US and some destinations in the Caribbean. And of course the PC-12 has a bathroom, so there's that. Turbine engines are more reliable, but also more expensive to maintain. For me, I would go with a piston-twin if we're talking about that kind of range. If I need to go beyond that, then I would be looking at the Phenom 300.
Not sure I’m following your logic, initial buy in is definitely high but these are much less thirsty than a jet and better range.
@@reed785M A turboprop engine is basically a jet engine turning a propellor shaft. What I'm saying is that, for slightly less speed and far less money, I can get a turbocharged piston twin that will give me better range and cost lesss to maintain. If I had the money to buy this plane, I would just skip it and get the PC-12 or a Phenom 300, because the Phenom 300, although it costs more per trip, I'm getting much faster speed, and better range, plus a bathroom for my passengers. It costs more yes, but it's the price I would be willing to pay for the additional comforts and benefits that the Epic doesn't have.
If you're old enough to own a long range single turboprop, you're old enough to want the bathroom of the PC-12!
@@larrysmith6797 PC-12 doesn't have a bathroom. It has a potty. PC-24 has externally serviceable private lavatory.
Mike. Great review. It is my wish that you will own a fine aircraft like this.
Beautiful!
Thank you for bringing to us - looks like a Rutan penned design!
You need to fly one of those Mr. Ojo.
I see them here all the time in Bend, Oregon where they’re built.
good job Mike
Nice mike thanks
thank you !
Mike, Just for your information, neither the Piper M600 or the TBM 940/960 use Garmin G100NGX panels, they are both equipped with the Garmin G3000 system. Additionaly the Cirrus is Equipped with the Garmin G2000, wivh is basically a 2 panel G3000 system,
I've been in one and they are a very cool plane with good avionics...Rocket turbo...with five blades...
What a absolutely BEAUTIFUL AIRCRAFT they built!!!!!!!!
Mike - Follow your work and love it. For 4 mil. I'd take a King Air or a Pilatus with a restroom any day of the week - even if I am a little behind you in terms of speed. "Pilot" - 60 - After Mexican food, and plenty of coffee at 34,000 feet - Let's just say the "grippers" don't work as well as they used to LOL....
Cheers !
Little known is that the TBM has a "Transformer" toilet option. You can remove a seat and put in the toilet and switch out any time you like.
czcams.com/video/3ytejllawR0/video.html
beautiful plane, it looks fast
Respect Bro!!!👍🏿✌🏿
A friend of mine told me about this project he was working on over ten years ago. This is it.
That is a gorgeous bird
It looks sleeker than the other planes within the same category.
Man I remember this all the way back when t was the the F1 and that's a long time ago
What is the yearly maintenance on the Epic 1000? Thanks Mojo Mike!
Very Nice Bro! Get Good People/Pilots!
Great video. Although I know I'm just dreaming this is the type of aircraft I would want in one day to be able to fly anywhere I want to in the US and take my family
Hi Mike 👋
Can you cover the Extra NG or 330 aerobatic plane, its a niche plane but looks like a fun one
Looks like a cigar and a lawn-dart had a baby. Nice walk around .
TBM & PC12NGX still better on almost all fronts. In real world applications I don’t see any advantages. Your mileage may very. Thanks for sharing.
Insanely expensive! It seems a bit small inside compared to the Pilatus. This plane suits the pilot who flies with just a couple other people and is in a big hurry to get where he wants to go.
I think it's a bargain for $200k. Great deal
A lot less shaft HP compared to the Pilatus. Not apples to apples comparison.
@@davidferris9392 hp is not every, weight, efficiency , maintenance etc
@@89turbomk3 I agree. The previous poster was trying to compare a 1200hp Pilatus to a 850hp TBM. Not a fair comparison.
Great plane but for some reason I just don’t like round windows! Brilliant! Cheers mates!!
on a pressurized aircraft they are structurally better than a squarish window.
I love turboprop planes, because they remind me of my youth, when I lived under the flightpath of an airfield where Vickers Viscounts and Vanguards, Fokker Friendships, and HP Heralds and Jetstreams regularly flew overhead, with the signature whistling sound always getting me off my feet and out the door, looking up to the sky. Single turboprop planes seems to be a very new thing, but not unwelcome. This looks purposeful, but I think, ultimately, the Pilatus PC-12 is the better aircraft.
In which way is the PC-12 better? Not arguing, but curious?
@@suzukirider9030 I flew a Pilatus years ago for a charter company. He probably means better in that the PC-12 useful load is much higher and it can seat up to 10. The ones we flew had 8 pax seating.
@@dieselyeti I see. Hard to argue "better" just because an aircraft is larger and fits more people. I only fly piston singles, but I'd never say a Cessna-210 caravan is "better" than a Diamond DA-40 although the Caravan fits more people and cargo. Or like saying a Ford sprinter van is better than a Lexus RX-350
Meeehn beautiful plane
Very interestin plane. #salute my gud brotha!!!!!!
PC12 anytime!
I love the Epic E1000. However, I would rather have an Embraer Phenom 100 (used) for roughly the same money, and slightly higher operating cost due to multi-engines. But, you also have a lavatory, a service ceiling of FL41, and over 400 knots cruise.
I was thinking along the same lines too.
HondaJet Elite S is even better. Price 5.4 mil compare to Epic 4.1 mil. Also FL430, 422 knots cruise speed and lavatory. Turboprops used to be a lot cheaper.
@@ivanvard6129 The HondaJets are nice, however, that price tag is not in line with the used budget an Embraer Phenom 100 typically holds, of about $2.2 - $3 million. And none of the cost of that HondaJet accounts for annual operating costs, of which the extra $2 million for the HondaJet would come in very useful for in owning a Phenom 100.
It is Truly EPIC
Expensive, but very nice and great performance figures and weight hauling ability.
It’d be nice to have mentioned where these planes are built.
Oregon
Thanks for the review of this gorgeous machine MG! I’m in the market for a single turbine - TBM 960 is currently top of my list. I don’t know if you or others can answer… Does the Epic have auto throttle, FADEC, auto anti-ice? What’s the TBO on the PT-6? The 960 is 5000h due to the FADEC… this makes a big difference to resale value…
Are you buying it for personal or business use?
No only the TBM and PC-12 have the new PT6-x engine with FADEC and 5000h TBO
I will begin by saying the Epic is a beautiful plane, but in a addition to not having FADEC it also running the G1000 Garmin flight deck, whereas the TBM960 is running the latest edition of the G3000 which gets you the auto land and auto throttle as well. Not to mention they upgraded to the latest GWX8000 weather radar. Between the full FADEC and G3000 flight deck, easily worth the extra $700k if you are already spending this kind of money.
Looks very familiar ( swiss) - don't see what's new. Wow - they left more space between the adjustable seats.
Can someone tell me why they want with manual prop control? (Rather than automatic, like in the TBM)
When are you getting yours Mike ?
Good day tell me how does this plane compare to the Honda?
what are your ratings and how many hours?
@9:26, @$4.1 million you may as well buy the $5.7 million Embraer Phenom 100, which flies faster, higher ceiling, about the same range, has a bathroom, but its two jet engines consume twice the fuel. M600, Epic and TBM don’t come with a bathroom, but the PC12 does. Epic uses much more composite than TBM and PC12 . The Epic’s weight reduction translates into more speed and range than PC12. Both TBM and Pilatus have a big side door for your bulky stuff, whereas Epic doesn’t. Conclusion, the TPM and PC12 are better equipped aircrafts although the PC12 costs nearly twice the price - you get what you pay for.
Nietzsche says hello
One thing not mentioned anywhere in the comments is the difference in variable cost for a turboprop vs jet. Those variable costs can easily be double on jet aircraft. So if this plane can perform at entry level jet speeds, then you get those benefits without the doubly high operating costs.
Initial capital cost of aquisition is only a small portion of the formula of owning an aircraft. A twin jet is not a better option for an owner operator who isn't comfortable with flying jets or twins for that matter. Nor are the cost of maintenance, fuel, overhaul..... They aren't even in the same atmosphere. I couldn't imagine a single owner operator that would have a list of potential aircraft to purchase where the TBM/epic would be in the same list as a Pehnom 100. Even the Pilatus is not on that list for most even though its considered and compared by many to be on this list. The difference between a Phenom 100 and epic/TBM for most would mean the difference of hiring a pilot or flying owner/op.
You left out the Cessna Denali, which has better specs than the PC12, but not as fast as TBM. It has the toilet in the rear (better!) and better balance, BUT you'll need a wide hangar door with the 54' wingspan - also true with the PC12. The TBM does have the "Transformer" toilet option - cool, but almost no one buys it.
TBM Toilet
czcams.com/video/3ytejllawR0/video.html
@@VictoryAviation You are definitely on-target. I flew to the Cessna plant in a CJ3 to look at their Denali and the M2/Gen2. The M2/Gen2 maintenance costs were through the roof - more triple TBM and the fuel burn was twice that of TBM. Further, the jet wasn't able to go as far on 1 leg as TBM, but had better baggage capability.
Made in Bend, Oregon my home town...
This plane is ridiculous. I want to own a business that runs one.
Same!
The GX is the second gen and second e1000 certified. The e1000 was certified in 2019 with first delivery in 2020. This is the next gen upgrade. Amazing how much he gets wrong
For that price I’m hopping in a Honda Jet.
That Honda will run you $50k-$100k / year in maintenance. Already ran the numbers. TBM all the way! 🙂
That price is crazy for what you get. They're pricing everybody out of everything.
bud I think you mean they have G3000 flight deck in there other aircrafts!
Awesome. Thank you for review. It's sometimes good to look around sitting here in Ukaraine
Hey buddy I hope you're staying safe!
There's so misinformation in the USA nobody really knows what's going on there!!
Much love and light to you and everyone in the Ukraine and may Gods Angel's watch over you and keep you safe ❤️ 🙏
Good Luck
Never surrender
Help is on the way
This and Honda jet for the win
It might be the world's fastest single engine PRODUCTION aircraft but it's NOT the world's fastest single engine airplane. It's more than 100 mph slower than Mike Patey's "Turbulence"!
I miss my Lear jet 24.
Hi pls make some videos on gyrocooters which can fly long distances upto 2000 kms.
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️Made in Oregon
👍😎👍
Until 2025 when the Otto Celera 500L enters production.
Can you request a small bathroom in the back of the epic?
Nope - but you can in a TBM
czcams.com/video/3ytejllawR0/video.html
Hi Mike, how are you Bro
”This aircraft… I believe… is pressurized…”
Just exposed yourself
When are you getting your Epic Mike?
As soon as I can convince myself that I don’t want an M600
People that say money can't buy happiness are shopping in the wrong stores :-) I'm ordering one in Ferrari's Rosso Corsa with Silver accents. Sure it is costing $122k usd more (that includes a custom Parchment leather interior) but it is a perfect color for this aircraft.
Did you shop the other “pottyless” SETPs?
For that price I'm going to get one for each day of the week
How cute
Good video. Thank you. 1500nm is a long flight when girls always have to pee the second the wheels come off the ground.
Surprising that it has a castering nose wheel.
PT6 Nation!
the plane is very clean
It thinks it's the sleekest looking aircraft within its category.
@@Rhaspun ohhh, but the plane is really clean inside and outside
i think it's a nice plane
Looks like the same shape as a Dornier DO 335 Pfeil.
👍
Does it have a lavatory option?
Absolutely not. Too small, like TBMs and the like. PC-12 has a potty. TBMs have a design for a potty but it takes 2 seats and it is pretty basic. The Pilatus PC-12 has also a basic potty (for some folks this may be a better deal but for most passengers 1-2 hours flight isnt a big deal to hold it). You gotta go to small to mid size jets (like Pilatus PC-24 for a full lavatory externally serviceable.
Sorry Mojo but this plane is the #3 or #4 fastest single, not #1. Two TBM's go 335 kts and 330 kts. E1000 is rated at 320-325 kts. And the Lancair IV-P turbine does 330 kts although ghe Lancair is kit form only. . The epic was a kit too until last year. It took epic 8+ yrs to get it certified by the FAA as a part 91 plane. Great video but please put in more work on research.
it's clickbait
Super nice but I would take the PC-12 over this. More capable plus a Lav.
What's the speed of the vision jet?
About 260 Knots
With full fuel this can carry 100 lbs more than a cessna 210. Weird. Of course it goes a lot faster, but still that means you can only haul 4x 240 pounders like me and some luggage.
Is that typical to give max speed as true airspeed instead of indicated?
I think it’s about comparison to the marketing of its competitors.
The aesthetics look like a Rutan design no?
you're not a big guy, but when you were seated your shoulder was into the other seat so it's narrow. if you're going to spend over 4 million you have money, so for a few more bucks buy the Honda jet be able to go up into the 40 thousands ft get above all weather fl31-330 ft a lot of the times you're not out of it. and i think the last thing i'd want would be flying at night FL 330 heavy weather and i lose "THE" engine.
Pretty pricey for a turbo prop. Would expect it to be a dual engine high wing with commander sized interior.
Check the price of the PC12 or or TBM.
like pilatus PC 12
How does the old P51 Mustang do 425mph but modern single engines are nowhere close?
