Great episode. It's only going to get better from here! Buntaro is a bad ass. Even without the spoilers, I knew he could be/is alive. Great breakdown. Keep them coming!
At first I thought Toronaga was making him have a bath by jumping in the sea so many times! 😂
Lol i think you could be right. He did deny that last bath they tried giving him. Maybe he was getting ripe
@@JeremyIceAndFire33 great review. This episode was much more action based. I’m still really enjoying it, but I hope they get the right balance between action and the character development of the first two episodes.
@scottthompson405 thanks, and i agree, i love a good action scene as much as the next but i also like the good character driven scene as well
Great Video, I also can't wait to see the rest of this show, it's such a high quality production between how they represent this era of Japan.
I would say though that while William Adams was the first European to become a Samurai in Japan, as far as I know, Yasuke - a former African slave in service to the Portuguese Jesuits - was the first Outsider to become a Samurai during the rule of Nobunaga in 1581. Almost 20 years before Adams became a Samurai, though we know very little about him prior to his arrival in Japan, as well as what happened after he was returned to the Jesuits.
I am liking this show so far
Great video, (spoiler warning)
I wish you didn't talk about the trailer of Buntaro and john though. I also was thinking Buntaro probably makes it out of the skirmish alive anyways but was unaware of the trailer which basically confirms it.
Thanks for watching, sorry for the trailer reveal. I put a spoiler warning on screen but next time I'll give more of a heads up
The video spoiled you and your commend spoiled me 🙈
Again, major spoilers if you hadn’t read the book. 4:10, and hinted elsewhere, at the end of the book, Toranaga admitted that the reason he kept Blackthrone in Japan is the fact he needed a good friend he can trust and a confidant he can confide in. He dare not trust his own people, even his family but he can trust Blackthrone. In reality, Togugawa probably kept William Adams for the same reason.
It would be an unwise move for Yabushia to take that offer of the Council position. Can you trust a traitor? Ishido would have likely used him to get Toranaga out of the way and then had him killed.
Good point
I dunno. He has crucible-forged battle history with Yabushige, & if Ishido eliminated Toranaga, he leaves himself open to the Catholic provinces and the Portuguese with, if rumours are to be believed, ronin filled forts in surrounding areas ready to answer a call to arms. I think if Yabushige assumed the lordship over the province of Kantō, & assumed the council seat, Ishido would try to stabalize the nation with a 3-2 majority in the council under his leadership. (Sugiyama being the 3rd, who shares close proximity to Ishido territory already and are natural allies)
I liked this episode, its my fav so far
Same here.
another great video and episode of shogun!!! i love this show its really a breath of fresh air for tv shows!!!!!
I love that the creators didn't summon the influence of the panderstone. It's a big leap forward for the restoration of good cinema.
Shin'nosuke came through like a true Samurai and his sacrifice saved the whole crew not just Toranaga. I'm not going to lie I thought he was the spy out of jealousy of Mariko-Sama beong used as a translator but I was wrong lol random thought Blackthorne said he left before his daughter was born. How the hell did he know it would be a girl? It's not like got mail out in the sea or called home every now and then so how did he know? 😂
Yea he made a very heroic stand, a true Samurai! Not sure about how Blackthorne knew, maybe he received a letter somehow.
Great recap! Not sure what purpose adding the bit about Buntaro from the trailer really adds to a “review” of the episode we just watched though. (I was happy to have forgotten that but from the trailer.)
I think it showcases that he’s probably not dead & that we’ll see him again. Which is pretty prevalent given where we last saw him
🏯🏯🏯This show keeps me hungry for more and then I can't wait for your review. So, one question, I am late to the party, but am I understanding that Toranaga was more than one wife?😎
Never too late to join the party 🥳

I'm finding this more enjoyable than "Masters of the Air" Good review, thanks...
The best previews and reviews
Thanks my friend 🙏
Thanks for the reviews. I can't have enough of the series, I have watched twice each of the first 3 episodes, and I read both Clavell's novel and the book about the real pilot William Adams. I loved the original Shogun series, but this one is much better in every way.
Thanks for watching & yea same here, I can't get enough of this rich time period & the compelling characters
Best episode so far
Definitely my favorite so far.
Great video the inclusion of who John was based off of was a good addition. I’ll have to catch up with the previous ones I got the notification finally today have you dug into how Lord Toranaga is based on Tokugawa Ieyasu yet?
Yes, Im working on a few in depth videos on the real Blackthorne, Tokugawa, the real Ishida & a few other characters.
@@JeremyIceAndFire33 that will be interesting. Clavells life himself was pretty interesting when you look into that and try to figure out his mind and why he created the books.
Omi peed on Blackthorne once. To quote the great 'El Duderino' Lebowski, "This aggression will not stand, man." Lex Talionis
Great video
Thanks for watching 🙏
SHOGUN: Unlike past movies and dramas, this drama truly represents Japanese history and culture for the first time. I also liked Last Samrai, but when Japanese people watched it, it expressed the wrong culture. I am grateful that SHOGUN is conveying the correct culture.
from japan😊
Yea it's impressive to see the lengths the production went to mske it as authentic as possible. It's a fascinating culture.
@@JeremyIceAndFire33 anjin was appointed hatamoto. He also received his fiefdom. His subordinates are also welcome. At this time, there were about 5,000 hatamoto in Japan. I look forward to Anjin's future activities.😘😘
Probably because several producers, including the main actor Sanada (Toranaga) are Japanese.
@@vladimirdorta6692 I was convinced that Hollywood was ready to convey the true meaning of Japanese culture.❤
This series is the best one that has been created in many years, it is unfortunate that it is not on regular TV. The ratings would be extraordinary high if this show ever was shown on regular TV, I can only hope that it will one day be made available to purchase on DVD's due to it's high quality.
It is on regular TV too, it airs every Tuesday night on the FX Network as well as Hulu
Whose remains (husband and baby) were they talking about in the beginning and what is the backstory?
Those were the remains of the Samurai that barged into the council meeting in episode 1 & his child. The one who committed Seppuku to restore his honor at the end of the episode
I thought they said he got a pass for what he did
@@JeremyIceAndFire33
"a political pissing match"😊
Thanks for spoiling the fact that he ultimately is going to be proclaimed as a samurai.....
Huh? I didn't spoil that, that reveal literally happened at the end of episode 3 when Toranaga granted Blackthorne the rank of Hatamoto. A Hatamoto IS a Samurai. I didn't spoil anything.
This show is overhyped
no you are...
It’s literally the number 1 viewed premiere in the history of Hulu. Sound like the hype is well deserved
