  • @TT-hx9nj

I'm not a Chelsea fan but there are huge problems with the way the media, pundits and masses look at this question (who is the best player in the world RIGHT NOW?). Way too much weight is added to longevity, despite it not really being relevant to the question. This season, Palmer most definitely has been one of the best players in the world. Just because nobody predicted it doesn't make it false. If Salah or Mbappe were having the EXACT season Palmer is having (not just numbers but general play) it wouldn't be a debate, everyone would be saying he is the best or one of the best in the world right now. Foden has probably been slightly better this season but it's very close, and the fact that Palmer is doing it in such a terrible team is really remarkable. Who has actually been better than Foden or Palmer in world football this season?

    • @Anon97123
      @Anon97123 Pƙed 13 dny +4

Completely agree. Reminds me exactly of Salah 17/18. He only got the credit he deserved a few seasons later after he'd done it for a while. Eventhough the actual performances real time don't change 2 seasons later.
It's this issue of certain players (e.g. Saka and Foden) gradually progressing, getting better and better over like 3 seasons. Then Palmer comes in and within half a season is already on their level. People can't wrap their heads around it. How can someone who's younger and has way less experience already be playing at the level of 2 of the best young footballers in the world when it took those two a couple years to reach that level.
The answer may even be that Palmer (talent and potential wise) is the best of the three. But because he's the new kid on the block and people have allegiances to Foden/Saka, that's an outrageous suggestion. The answer must then be that Palmer's not actually as good as them yet and he's overrated.
People essentially 'slow down' a player who's on a ridiculous trajectory because that player reaching the level of the players they've been raving about for years so quickly offends them.
Idk kind of hard to explain but it makes sense when you see the extent that so many people are going to to try and downplay how good Palmer's been this season. His actual performances this season have been on par if not better than Foden and Saka yet people will make these ridiculous arguments about how it's too soon to compare them (as if that has any baring on his performances this season).

    @poppasmurf3670 Pƙed 13 dny +46

The England midfield is so easy to pick. Drop Belling back to CM next to Rice, and play Palmer in front of them. Since when has Bellingham become englands best CAM? He’s not technically better than Foden or Palmer. Play foden on the left and Saka on the right.

Foden is the best 10 in the league
      Palmer isn't a 10,hes a RW

Palmer is great but he's in a Chelsea team that's is mostly filled with average players, at England he's gonna be sharing the field with top class players, he won't have the freedom to roam around do what he wants like in Chelsea

Foden likes to drift in to the middle. You arguably want more of a Saka like winger (e.g. Gordan on the left if you play that formation). Look at City. Pep prefers Grealish and Doku on the left. Which leads you back the drawing board because then you're benching Foden.
Also, England don't have the defenders to play that formation. We don't have an Ake or a Gvardiol. We have Shaw and Chilwell. Southgate would never experiment with a back 3 that he hasn't had a chance to play in the friendlies.
It'll be a 4231 likely with Bellingham in the 10, a more defensive midfielder like Mainoo or Gallagher behind him. And then dropping one or more of Foden, Palmer or Saka. Then bringing who ever he dropped off the bench.
Really depends if Foden can actually be good at LW for England. Saka and Palmer at RW will be no problem. Foden in the 10 is no problem. But LW is an issue. Which is why there genuinely may be a chance someone like Grealish, Gordan or Rashford starts over Foden. Because it's up to Foden to actually deliver on the wing.

    Pickford
    Walker Stones Maguire Shaw
    Arnold Rice Bellingham
    Saka Kane Foden
Maguire will play even though he is a liability. Unfortunately Southagte hasn't given anybody else an opportunity. I would have Konsa to add pace and allow a higher line. But him or Tomori should have been bought into the team before the WC.
Leftback is a problem if Shaw is unfit. Trippier would struggle against top wingers and Chilwell is out of form. Nobody else really tried. After this tournament I would bring in Branthwaite, Lewis Hall, Livramento, Konsa and Tomori. Get them ready for the next few tournaments.
Arnold for his set piece + crossing. Too early for Mainoo to be first team but would have him in the squad. Gallagher on the bench for the energy and seeing a game out. Curtis Jones not a bad shout for mid
England will physically overwhelm low blocks with height, power and directness. Its the big nations that England need to beat.
Palmer off the bench, (add in Toney) and you have 2 penalty specialists. Kane, Palmer and Toney is 3/5 reliable penalty takers. Nothing is guaranteed of course.
Against the big teams England need to be braver and PLAY. For me there problems are mental. Thet dont know what to do when the tide turns against them (and Southgate hasn't the footballing IQ to figure it out). England were better than France in the WC quarters but sometimes the better team loses. That wont happen too often.
Against a big team I would drop Saka for Palmer. The lad is confident and in form. Saka is no longer an unknown quantity at this level.
Kane, Watkins, Toney, Foden, Saka, Palmer and Gordon are England's 7 attackers across the front 3. Rashford and Grealish not good enough and Sterling well out of form. Madueke not ready yet.

Yeah as a Newcastle fan I seen Miggy Almiron (for one season only) become absolutely deadly infront of goal. He was scoring world class goals every week and looked dangerous every time he ran at goal, but this season hes got 5 in all competitions, and looks a shadow of the player we seen last season. The moral of the story is any player can have a excellent season, but the very best players do it continuously throughout their careers.

    Hear me out
We lack a quality, fit LB. Man City play with wing backs capable at playing CB so that Stones can push forward to squeeze the Midfield and dominate possession. So.....
    Pickford
    Walker, Stones, RICE, Colwill
    Mainoo
    Palmer, Bellingham
    Saka, Kane, Foden
Back 3 in possession, with Colwill and Walker tucking in alongside Stones/Rice rotating to support midfield. When we want to close a game out, we bring on Guehi for either Palmer or Bellingham and push Rice back into midfield. Rice has played CB before.

Am not even comparing but that one alone is a factor enough and we saw Saka miss a Pen. Palmer is proving to be good at almost everything he does. A player who does just what's just enough to make things happen and he does the right in every situation. A player very difficult to defend because he has spatial awereness and great vision

I don't know why pochetino don't tinker with midryks positions on the pitch...I don't know why mudryk doesn't play as a false 9 so that we benefit from his speed in the box to cause havock in opposition boxes...if I was pochetino I would play mudryk as false9 play Jackson no10 and play the supper supper star palmer on the right wing....play madueke more and more compared to sterling

Havertz was the same at Chelsea to a certain extent (he hit 21 goal involvements in his most productive season) but he also popped up with important goals when nobody else could hit the back of the net. So he can do the business in the box when the team's not doing well, but you're right, he won't make something out of nothing or drag a team through a game singlehandedly

Take away Palmer’s 9 penalties and he has 11 goals and 9 assists in the EPL. Nunez has 11 goals and 8 assists playing as a winger/forward for comparison and is widely ridiculed. Palmer is a very good player but his penalties are very much over inflating his stats. And that’s not taking anything away from Palmer converting his penalties. It’s just the reality of his goal tally coming with a very big asterisk next to it.
