Its a lot different. Man United would have their pick of any manager bar a few. If England sacked Southgate tomorrow they would have to appoint Howe or Potter etc. Top managers don't want the job.
Who is the best National team manager now? Deschamps? Scaloni? And Southy probably 3rd best in the world which says a whole lot.
If United were to appoint Southgate there would be protests outside Old Trafford as big as those protests seen because of the European Super League proposal in 2021 . Southgate should not be allowed anywhere near Old Trafford even if he wins the Euros. If England win the Euros the players will have won it despite him not because of him.

Ten Hag has been dealt a bad hand at Man Utd. Greenwood issue Sancho was awful and injuries within a team. Team needed restructuring altogether. Mctominay is scoring goals Hojlund is scoring goals Mainoo is looking world class and Garnacho is looking the business. a successful club doesn't always measured by trophies.. I think what Ten Hag has done at Man Utd is almost impossible.. he had to perform under weird conditions.. the club doesn't buy players he wanted.. he said it himself, Man Utd can't play Ajax style.. but thanks to Ten Hag's football knowldege, he knows how to make Rashford score lots of goals last season and this season even when Rashford isn't in good form, he still able to make Man Utd compete in FA Cup and UCL qualification through the league.. Arteta also better than Southgate.. even De Zerbi is better than Southgate because he's able to raise Brighton's stature in Europe..

The case for Southgate usung his tenure with England is dumb. England has easily some of the best talent in the world and at his disposal. There is no comparison given that context. He doesn't have that luxury at a club. And given his credentials at club and his tactics, i don't see how he is comparable to Ten Hag.
You cannot compare club and international play for both players and managers. This is the same illogical argument people made for years with Maguire. People kept saying he was great for England for years to try and continue justifying him playing and starting for United. They are two completely different playing environments. It’s like justifying an EPL player or manager being great when they are constantly playing and coaching against League 1 opposition instead of EPL opponents. How these pundits don’t categorically make this distinction clear is ridiculous.

Arsenal is playing far better football than almost every team in Premier League today. Better than even my Manchester City team. Give credit where it's due. Arteta has won FA Cup and stands a better chance to win the Premier League. Manchester United has changed many managers and they're still struggling. They have brought in the most expensive players and nothing happens. That should tell you that the problem is neither the managers nor the players but the culture of the club.
