How Harry Potter CHEATS at Character Development

- J.K. Rowling does some finessing with Harry Potter’s character development, and I’m not having any of it. The first question we need to answer is how does she do this? Well, with a system of revealed paradoxes. Harry has this network of diametrically opposed character attributes that I always thought was weird. Like having all of the characteristics of a Gryffindor and a Slytherin.
The second question would be is this actually considered cheating? Well, I think so. For two main reasons: First, it makes all of Harry’s character attributes unearned. Second, J.K. Rowling can make any of these attributes meager plot points whenever she feels like it. Harry is kind of okay at magic, yet he is the one who is going to take down Voldemort? He is awkward and uncoordinated, yet is somehow the greatest athlete in Gryffindor?
However, these are just my thoughts on the matter. Can you think of any examples that prove me right or wrong? I’d love to hear your thoughts on the matter in the comment section!

When you pointed out the paradoxes, it became really interesting. Because yeah, JK did just have her cake whole and eaten as well xD. It's Almost hilarious.
And it's definitely cheating yeah. She made him so everyone would love him. But i think it was in her character. In JK rolling all along. That her in there. She was both sides of the coin, or that was at some way what she wanted to be. I know that I wanna be that. But I wanna be a different person than that. I wanna be myself. And that wouldn't be me
I think she wrote the story when she wanted everything to be perfect. And created such a story successfully. Even when he failed, he did so successfully. JK did use whatever aspects of his backstory suited her. It's like he wasn't even a person. He was a back of tricks that where pulled out as needed. A bag full of experiences that all of us wanna have. All combined into one, all too convenient, "Person".
Jk rolling definitely cheated.but I'm not sure if she realised that she was doing that. I think it was just her world view at that point and it just reflected onto the story on a perfect way.
She was just lucky. Because if she wasn't. And she did do it with her own skills, and not out of luck, then I don't know why fantastic beast turned into such a disaster

I find it really interesting. If anything, you could say that I'm kinda happy, and sad for her. Happy that she was lucky, and sad that she wasn't ready for it
I also find the situation funny, and feel and impulse to understand it perfectly. If I'm coming as if I'm hateing her, then it's probably because I'm trying to be impartial and I'm not doing a good job at it
Yeah, you put it really well. She was trying to just have her cake and eat it too. And the idea that the system of paradoxes was a part of her can definitely be true. She was really poor before Harry Potter, and Now she's super wealthy. So she has some paradoxes of her own as well. Thanks for watching, and for commenting! I'm probably not exactly the target audience for this, as I've only seen the first three Harry Potter movies and read none of the books, but I'll give my two cents from an outsider's perspective anyway. 😅
Honestly, when you were describing the paradoxes that make up Harry Potter, and that you suspected JK Rowling made her protagonist that way because of mass appeal, it made me think of Spider-Man. I remember reading that when Stan Lee made that character, superhero alter-egos were adults, but by making Peter Parker a teenager, he was closer in age to the target audience of comic books, which I think directly led to his massive popularity. I have no idea if JK Rowling was inspired by Peter Parker in crafting Harry Potter, but maybe it's just the general "everyman" character trope that has the greatest mass appeal, and therefore she wanted her protagonist to be that way, so she made sure that the key paradoxes would allow him to be both average and legendary at the same time.
Also, I loved the funny moments, as I think they worked well as an augment to your style (the clip of the guy slapping the display character on his head at 6:14 was my personal favorite, and got a cackle out of me), so please keep them up, and I'm looking forward to your next video!

And that's a great comparison! Being average and legendary at the same time is a great way to phrase it, and that's exactly what Spider-Man is too. I know Stan Lee got a lot of pushback when he made the Spider-Man comic, but he definitely achieved mass appeal with that character and story as well! Thank you! Yeah, I wanted to find a word that worked as an opposite of "average", and legendary's what I thought of! Oh, definitely, but it is interesting how Stan Lee's breaking of the convention led that to become a crucial part of American superheroes! My pleasure, truly! Well, when I was younger, I tried to read (or have it read to me, I suppose haha) the first book, and I never got into it; it was the same with the movies, as I was just kind of indifferent towards that kind of fantasy and magic system when I was younger, preferring the cooler (to me) sci-fi and advanced technology that sci-fi featured! Nowadays, I'm not a fan of JK and her views on trans people, so I don't see myself reading the books or watching the movies any time soon.
Can you do a video about Naruto next, if you’ve seen it? Everybody calls him a cheater, but I don’t think so and it would cool to see your thoughts on it.

Not sure when it would come out, though. And in what ways do people call him a cheater? By using the infamous "talk no jutsu"? Haha, that would make for an interesting topic!
@@DrewMalou That’s one reason. The others are him being the nine-tails jinchuriki and using his powers or him mastering a jutsu in a shorter time than people expect it would take to do it. Naruto coming up with a smarter and faster way in learning the rasengan is also always attributed to him being Minato‘s son (a prodigy) or Ashura‘s reincarnation (which doesn’t even slightly boost his abilities until he activates it mostly on his own way later in the story). If you completed Naruto you know what I‘m talking about, but if you actually decide to make a video on this topic I‘ll be glad to help. I‘m sort of an expert on Naruto and especially the reincarnation part which 99% of the fan base doesn’t understand. There is a ton of material which would make a very interesting video.
