- GANG WARS | The Attitude Era's Greatest Factions!
Wrestling has a long and storied history when it comes to factions. And that makes sense because they serve two excellent purposes for any promoter. In kayfabe of course, they can give a performer added back up whenever they need it, and in reality, they can also allow for more wrestlers to get seen on TV each and every week. But while groups of the past such as The Four Horsemen, and more modern factions like The Bloodline are great in their own right, today we’re going to be looking at the best that came out of that magical period of the late nineties. But who were the best of them all? Well, join today as we take a deep dive into Gang Wars: The Attitude Era’s Greatest Factions.

The Hart Foundation, The Ministry Of Darkness and The Corporation should have been on here too.
How are they not?
Not technically factions
I would take the hart foundation off tho cause this was around the time it ended
And then the Corporate Ministry!
But the Hart Foundation just ended with the attitude era started.
Might Because Vince Don't Like Large Factions(The Corporation & Ministry Of Darkness). People Overcriticize The NWO Saying It Had Too Many Members And Some Said It Should've Had Only 3/4/5 Members. Wasn't Gonna Work. The NWO Was Not A Group, They Were A Promotion. WWE Fans & Vince McMahon Wanted The NWO To Remain Small. Silly The WWE Top Always Ranking 4 Factions Are Small Factions, DX, The Bloodline,, The Shield & Evolution. WCW Had Another Very Large Faction Noone Complains About Being So Large & Which Had More Members At Time; The New Blood. Vince McMahon & The WWE Don't Complain About The New Blood Having Almost Half Of The Roster In It, Because He Retardedly Didn't Think The New Blood Were A Threat To WWE Ratings.. That's Funny To Do, The New Blood Were Far Superior To The McMahon/HelmsleyFaction. Vince McMahon Sending Vince Russo To WCW To Destroy, He Must Thought Vince Russo Was Going To Push A Lot Of Small Guys. He Pushed 2-Billy Kidman & Vampiro. These New Blood Members Would've Destroyed The McMahonHelmsleyFaction; Mike Awesome, Jeff Jarrett, Scott Steiner/Horace Hogan, Chuck Palumbo, Shawn Stasiak, Vampiro & Stevie Ray. Sid Vicious Had Joined the New Blood. Vince Russo Should've Kept Him On TV. New Blood Really Would've Destroyed The McMahonHelmsleyFaction With Sid Vicious, Sid Over Vampiro. Vince McMahon Don't Like Large Factions, But He Was Part Of The Corporation. WCW Top 3 Factions; Two Of Them Were Small Factions, Still The #4 Best Faction Should Be A Large Faction. Someone Ranked The Millionaire's Club, New Blood & Magnificent Seven In The Top 10. They Should Be In The Top 7. Noone Cared About The Truth Commission, Los Boricas Or DOA. Most WWE Factions On The List Noone Cared About.
DX was definitely the coolest thing on the playground.. do you realize how much trouble we got it saying “suck it” week after week? 😂😭
Vince gave us so many stables.
You'll never see this happen ever again.
Somehow, the JOB Squad helped Al Snow and Hardcore Holly to gain momentum in the Era after being in the low mid card in the New Generation.
Me being Puerto Rican, I was a huge fan of Los Boricuas. Savio Vega is one of my all time faves. Shout out to Damian Priest for holding it down 🇵🇷
💪🇵🇷🔥
Savio Vega was badass
Shit I ain't even know this was even a faction makes me proud as hell as a Puerto Rican
RTC was such a simple idea that worked so well. The intro plays, instant heat in the crowd.
The APA was awesome, too. Loved seeing Farooq and Bradshaw annihilate baddies for money.
The APA was a part of the ministry of darkness and later, the corporate ministry, before branching off as a tag team
Farooq definitely should've held the title at least once in the NOD. That faction was soooo dope. He came off as a bad-ass. His promos were cool too. Good heel in the 90s.
DAMN!
WE ARE THE NATION

TUNTOODOODODADOODOODOO
Just last week I was binge watching on the Raw episodes from 96-97 just to watch the NOD entrances. The music and the 2 rappers had me jamming!!
@@yaninledesma Hahaha right on! They should make a similar faction today.
@@yaninledesma Same! During my binging of Raw and The PPVs of 1997, whenever the Nation came out and those two dudes started rapping, I thought it was the hardest shit alive😂🔥.
I absolutely loved all the factions of the 90s
INDEED!
Some of there entrances made it to WWE
Games as well.
The ministry of darkness was DEEP.. when they unveiled The Brood as part of the ministry the crowd went wild.. really a great era..
I stopped watching in 2001 since I was in the army and a war had started But WWE gave me Memories since I was 6 years old.. Vince McMahon Deserves a Statue somewhere.. His innovation and creativity brought to life an Entire industry. Great Job Vince.
I also stop watching in 2001 when i graduated high school and i working more hours n at night.. couldn't watch raw anymore..
The only bad thing I can say about Vince McMahon is he just doesn’t know when to walk away and as great as he was back then the past few years he has been killing the company
@@kerryyoung3220 Thats part of the Show.. WWE Financials have Grown since 2020 and are higher then they were in 2015.. he isn't killing anything.. If you still watch the show youre getting what ou pay for.. Characters and situations that get you in your feelings about it lol..
Sean Waltman’s names had something to do with his previous character 1-2-3 Kid, 1 + 2 + 3 = 6
Next name Syxx… when he returned he was X - Pac (ex wolfpack member)

D’Lo bobbin and cleaning his belt
The subtle music change at Too Cool was too cool.
They were so dope😂🕶️

Gillberg is one of my dads all-time favorites. We reference him often in our nostalgia convos.
Too Cool is such a feel good story, they were not meant to get over but they played the role so good.
I was a teenager in high school in the attitude era, dx was the best faction ever, period!.. i even had a bracelet that said "suck it" on it..😂😂😂😂😂
U knw u were crotch choppin 🤣
@@Niggleblade1986 ...i sure was...😂😂😂😂😂
I can't argue with their success and popularity but I never liked them. I found them annoying. I suppose that was the idea though. It may have also been because I was 9 years old when they first formed. They were also feuding with my favourite faction at the time and that was The Hart Foundation.
@@Super1866 .. annoying they were..🤣🤣..i was what 15... i loved there arrogance..
@@elleni-41 I just liked seeing them get slapped about.
Farooq is so underrated. He was bad ass and his style in the ring was super physical
DAMN !
He's also the only person in both the college football hof and wwe hof
Simmons was an all-American DE at FSU before wrestling
Ron Simmons is the only person bold enough to replace an original paint job on a Firebird hood with a self-portrait. Ron Simmons is a legend in life.
@@jlew13jlAlmost won a Heisman playing defense.
I want a JOB Squad shirt so bad lol
10:40 Taka wasn’t immediately pegged as a mid-card comedy act. He acted seriously and was treated seriously when he first joined the WWF. It was about a year into his run with the company before the comedy stuff began. And Taka never once had any Cruiserweight Title matches during his run with the company. He was the first WWF Light Heavyweight Champion, but he stopped wrestling for the company a few weeks before the WWF started using the Cruiserweight Championship.
TAKA started strong but wwe wasted his potential when they turned him into a joke wrestler.
Where's The Corporation? Ministry of Darkness? Corporate Ministry? Blue World Order? The Union? PMS?
The Hart Foundation (1997), The Nation and Too Cool were my favorite Attitude Era factions.
5:42 Who are the DOA ?? I only know them as the Biker Miker Likers..
Yea disciples of apocalypse..
They didn't last long..
They didn't have the jam to last
@@stevengrvp lmfao I'm done 🤣🤣🤣
@@fingersTitan maybe they should have went to casa da frosty balls
Or the Dirty Ol' A$$holes.
Btw, RTC were wayyyyyyy ahead of their time. They would be huge today.
I love the Oddities theme song. It was so underrated!
The Hart Foundation really deserves to be here
Dude I’m watching it now and saying to myself “the Hart foundation was the rival most to early DX not the nation” smh. Bret kicked off the attitude era by pushing Vince and reuniting with his family. No love smh 💯
How the hell are they not on here? They were before a lot of these factions.
Yep. The Hart Foundation was a big part of the Attitude Era.
The Corporation was a good faction, as was The Ministry and Corporate Ministry. Hart Foundation were also great in 1997.
Also the Union, even though they didn't last that long.
@@kevinstull8552 Yes, I remember them.
Why are they not mentioned in this video
@@df7817 I don't know.
RTC predicted the era into the present.
No Hart Foundation, Corporation, or Ministry of Darkness?
Exactly
I haven't watched pro wrestling since 2004 but if you can I would like to see a video about Stone Cold's heel turn in depth
That's about when it went to utter shit same here 03 04 ish for me
@@hydrooxy84 Yep, same with me.
I love to see a Brood reunion. They had a wicked entrance, coming up through the flaming entrance on stage, and the blood (or red liquid) Gangrel spat out before their matches was cool.
Some of the most fun in wrestling. This era was just great because they did so many styles of stories so well.
It was the most inclusive of times to be a part of a stable freak shows, parodies of civil right extremists, parody of militia, and parody of the parents television console that is just in the WWF/WWE not including ECW or WCW in the time period of the Attitude Era
Also some of the worst and morally questionable times in wrestling too, people always bang on about how great the attitude era was, despite the fact it was largely car crash tv style Jerry springer does wrestling nonsense. We need to stop viewing it with Rose tinted glasses.
@@jimbo_1312 oh there was some horrible garbage too but the good outweighed the bad in my personal opinion. I wish we would have had the woman’s division we have today back then. Lita, Trish, Molly, Victoria were all so much fun to watch in the ring because they could go. A lot of the stupid stuff was simply because Vince is kind of a child and very narrow minded in what he perceived as good talent. He wasted tons of great story telling opportunities because of this. I would love to take todays HHH and put him in to yesterdays creative. Even if he wasn’t leading it just having a strong voice would have made that era even more remarkable
@@jimbo_1312 true, couldn't agree more.
8:35 my life was shattered...Pre internet South African boy who didn't believe it when people said wrestling was fake, the Commadant is Robin Beauclerk Smith a South African actor! When I saw him I knew it...

The attitude era in wrestling when it comes to many different factions, it was an idea and reference from the 1979 movie The Warriors.
Wow really
The Nation was overlooked because of DX!
That was a great feud. DX actually got their just desserts a few times. I never took to DX. I was a Hart Foundation fan but it was a good job that DX were there because they were entertaining and even if you support another faction, a feud with DX keeps your interest. DX did have a cool factor though, I will admit that. The Nation also had a swagger about them. The cool factor of The Nation increased when The Rock took charge.
@@Super1866 lol
@@Justin-fb3ms Justin? Is that you?
I can hear 2 Cool's theme in the background! It is lit!🔥 🔥
I met Grandmaster Sexay in 2006! We bonded over our love for the Steelers! I called one of my friends who was a Titans fan. When he picked up I gave the phone to Sexay. He ripped him a new one about his team! I only wish I had a video of this!
Your transitions/segways into the next stables is amazing sir. Keep it up.
The Oddities!!!
Nice video and good way to change the thumbnail from the original one... I was confused lol
The Gang warfare was awesome. I missed big stables for a long time, I'm glad the Judgment Day and Bloodline have been running the show lately.
It's hard to take anyone seriously as a badass with a dainty little chain hanging from their nose to their ear 🤣🤣
The NoD was formed for the simple reason, to get the Rock turned into a heel.
Because Vince knew the kid had charisma and just needed to crowd to hate him(they wouldn't love him because it was the beginning of the attitude era and plain old baby faces weren't cool anymore)
Godfather said this in an interview. He said they all(or at least He)knew NoD was temporary, it was just to get the Rock over as a heel.
I seen this interview on CZcams but I don't remember who was doing the interview. If you're wanting to see it, you'll have to search for it, and probably had have to watch a few before you find the right one.....like I did.
Ron Simmons deserved more in wwf
DAMN!
Damn right!
He was part of one of the most popular tag teams in the greatest era of wrestling.
Are we ever gonna get a years in review again?
Wasn't the referred match New Age Outlaws vs Job Squad a non title match? 🤔
I remember the leaf blower 😄
could do a follow up, best gang dream matches, NWO vs DX, the Brood vs The Dead Pool, the Oddities vs Dungeon of doom . job squad vs misfits in action.
I make no apologies for liking this period of wrestling, although we have the likes of The Bloodline we’ll probably never see the likes of this again. I always loved the likes of DOA
Whats with u? Do u get a quarter every time u say the likes of?
Those PG dweebs should never be compared to the legends
Funny looking back now knowing Charles Wright was absolutely hating this gimmick.
He missed his Ho's 😆.
DOA apt name for a group that was Dead on Arrival
Rick rude in the neck round giving them promo tips was genius
TAKA doesn't run Michinoku pro, I don't even know if he's worked there in the last decade. He runs 2AW formally Kaientai Dojo.
Plzz do Immortal,Main Event Mafia and Aces & Eights. Those factions deserve the spotlight.
DX, The Corporation, Ministry of Darkness, Hart Foundation, Nation of Domination were some of the best factions of the attitude era.
Rakishi turned heel in late 2000...the running down of stone cold took place in Survivor Series 1999
You’ve the best WWF/WWE content on CZcams! Keep up your incredible work!
11:07 little did the Attitude Era fans know that he will be SmackDown's №1 Announcer
18:40 Somebody didn't watch the 2022 Women's Royal Rumble. Ivory came out in her RTC gimmick.
You missed the short lived faction the Union aka the Union of People You Ought to Respect, Son. (or Up Yours, CLEARLY a Vince Russo idea!).
Rikishi turned heel in October 2000, not 1999. I'd say Too Cool had a long enough run by that point and although breaking up didn't do anyone in the group good, it wasn't a "damn it happened too soon" kind of deal.
It's a shame they didn't have Billy Gunn for the Raw XXX show since Billy is on AEW.
They could've but decided not to
Forgot how feminine 123 kid was 🤣
The Brood Was awesome their theme song is iconic they were great in the ministry of darkness
Love that theme song. Very industrial.
@L M same here Jim Johnston was an amazing Music Composer for WWE
Imo, Triple H was soo much better as a babyface in the late 90's with those cool lookin split tights for ring gear. I never thought he fit as a Heel until the Evolution days..
10:31
Uh, correction
Great Sasuke aka Masa Michinoku was the founder of Michinoku Pro, not Taka, who took the last name from his mentor's old gimmick.
They got a lot wrong about Taka in this video. Also needing a correction: Taka wasn’t immediately a mid-card comedy act (that happened about a year after Taka started wrestling for the WWF). And Taka never once had a Cruiserweight Title match with the WWF (because Taka already stopped wrestling for the company before the WWF even began using the Cruiserweight Championship).
The Great Sasuke founded Michinoku Pro Wrestling. Taka took his name as respect or homage to The Great Sasuke.
I forgot all about holly rolling snow up in a chain link fence and pinning him 🤣🤣🤣 that actually happened 🤣😂
Oddities theme song was awesome back then
Ron Simmons, and Rikishi not getting the heavyweight title in WWE truly was one of the biggest snubs in wrestling history. (Also Rikishi should have NEVER been made a heel.)
"I did it for da Rock." Never seen anyone's popularity crash so fast. SMH
@@acerimmer8338 I hated that story arc so much. It killed any chance of him being a heavyweight champion.
Nation was the most successful stable of the attitude era. All the members went on to achieve greatness. Farooq, Marc Henry, Godfather, Dlo and of course the Rock.
Wonderful Job I Love This Video 📸 Wrestle With Andy Well Done 👍.
aw. i was hoping to see a bit on the ‘97 incarnation of the hart foundation.
DX vs Nation of Domination was so amazing. I still remember DX impersonating The Nation 😂😂😂
Get cancled for that nw 🤣
Very strange how the Montreal screwjob and Bret Hart gets mentioned, but not his stable? I could have sworn that the Hart Foundation was the biggest faction in 1997, way more important than most of these listed here.
The gang warz in 1997 went on too long
How did wwe find so much tv time for these dudes
I love how Owen Hart was in a black group that was black panther styled 😂 so legendary only Owen he prolly even had the pass 😂 rip Owen
Prelude to The Bloodline and Sami Zayn
Nation of Domination wasn't specifically a black group the whole time. Just during the period when Farooq wanted it to be. But they had non black members Krush, Savio Vega, JC Ice, Woolfie D, and Owen Hart.
Whoop whoop!!! Oddities were some of my favourites.
I dug Kurig as he is from just outside my home town back in New Brunswick Canada
Hey Andy, love your documentaries, you should do one on Lucha Underground.
And the wcw factions too
Man wwe need to bring back having more factions the war between NOD and DX was perfect
I’m in May of 99 and I really don’t get the whole DX appeal. Definitely an entertaining group but nWo already did what they did and did it way better. Anyone who says DX is better than nWo is only saying that because of nostalgia purposes.
Title: The Attitude Era’s Greatest Factions
Also on the title: Gang Wars
Me: You named the video after one of the Attitude Era’s disastrous storylines?
Where the fuck is The Hart Foundation? Bret, Owen, Bulldog, Anvil, and Pillman?
When the attitude era started Bret, Anvil and Bulldog were in WCW. Pillman was dead and Owen was the only one left in WWF.
8:45 well.. that's one of the most sus things I've ever seen.....
I guess I remember that wrong. I thought Bret called Shawn and crew a bunch of degenerates....leading to the degeneration x name. I don't remember Bret flat out giving them the degeneration x name
Even though they were members of DX neither Rick Rude nor Billy Gunn were Gen Xers
16:13
16:52
🤨 am I hammered or does that time-line make no sense
Can you make a whole video on The Nation of Domination?
Hot take: the right to censor is the most successful faction in wrestling history. Their entire vision was cleaning up the politically insensitive product, and now WWE is entirely PG and is, for the most part, what the group wanted in the first place 😅
15:16
Edge showing Dom how it's done made me laugh
You do some great videos man
Mean street posey should have been on this list too.
I just want to imagine a new Right to Censor in today's WWE. 😂
I remember when Sable joined the Oddities.
