- GOLDEN TO ATTITUDE | Wrestlers that Competed in Both Eras!
There’s a saying that goes “Talent borrows, genius steals.” Well, if that’s true then the people we’re going to be looking at today must be amongst the biggest geniuses out there because they’re all prime examples of a wrestler taking a gimmick which worked for someone else in the past and co-opting it as their own. Yes, sometimes theft really is the superior option it seems. But what are the best examples of this? Well, that’s exactly what we’re going to be looking at today.

You left out Bradshaw but added Barry Windham although he was in wcw during the pro attitude era 😂
you had some people in WCW who did not believe in Steve Austin and Undertaker they went to WWE and became successful proving their critic wrong.
Staying in both eras alone is an impressive achievement, But staying for multiple eras, Still performing at a high level, is other wordly. Undertaker perfectly defines that.
So does Ric Flair.
You wordsmith you 😅
Triple h shawn Michaels both multiple eras
R-Truth
hogan flair macho man are the ones who come to mind
A biker that's the leader of a biker gang caller DeadMan Inc, called "The Undertaker" and is known for whooping ass, and is more an anti-hero than a face or heel is actually pretty cool. And I always thought Taker didn't get enough credit for how great it was.
Or his other biker gang called D.O.A. Disciples Of Apocalypse that group that was in the WWE for a short time they didn't last long
Bossman was awesome in the Attitude Era, the angles he was involved in were mostly dumb but Bossman understood his assignment.
He was also good as Big Bubba in Mid-Atlantic as Cornette’s bodyguard. Except for when he missed breaking Cornette’s fall off of the scaffold at Starrcade ‘86. 😢
His run as WWF Champion was definitely well deserved.
_BigBawMan_
@@pjleon8391Big Bossmsn was never WWF Champion
In Bill Watts' UWF promotion, he was the UWF champion as Big Bubba Rogers.
British Bulldog's Attitude Era run was after a WCW run where suffered a back injury after landing on a trap door that was put in the floor of the ring there for a surprise appearance of the Ultimate Warrior. The injury led to Bulldog becoming addicted to pain killers.
We all know this
It was all for nothing because Warrior became a fuck up.he was already partying with drugs before that.but that made him need it all the time. He was so strong when watching him has a kid
@@shaned7158AND it was at war games where they had 2 rings. Didn't even have to have wrestling in the trapdoor ring for most of the show, but did anyway
He was so incredibly good in the ring. He didn't get the push he deserved in WWF. Shame that WCW's typical clownshow move ruined him.
That wasn't Barry Windham's debut in the Fed: He was one half of the US Express in the early '80s.
Yeah Barry Windham switched companies a lot more than I ever remembered as a child.
Right. He and Mike Rotunda were WWF tag champs around the time the first WrestleMania started.
@@KevinPayton-fq8gd They also used the "Real American" theme before the Hulkster. Jesse Ventura on the album: "I can't believe that's for Wyndham and Rotundo. Derringer, you should have buried yourself and stayed buried!".
The wrestled Nikolai & The Sheik at Wrestlemania 1.
I would add the Late Great Owen Hart a/k/a "The Rocket" a/k/a "The Blue Blazer" to this list. R.I.P. to all the Legends we've lost mentioned in this video.
Big Bossman🕊
Terry Funk🕊
Earthquake🕊
The Road Warrior L.O.D. Hawk & Animal🕊
Droz🕊
British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith🕊
Great video!
The Dynamite Kid
Oh, I didn't know, that Droz is gone, rip
And bray Wyatt
Undertaker was part of the golden era, attitude era, ruthless aggression era, PG era, and the new generation era
Just another reason why he's the 🐐
Video said Undertaker debuted in 1990 on the tail end of the golden era. If 1990 was the tail end of the golden era, what was the era that occurred through most of the 90’s? Seems like the vid is leaving out an era?
@@ahfimiwonawunnew generation era was the era that occurred most of the 90s
@@ericebjonesii1378, thanks!
Damn straight!!!
@@ahfimiwonawunThe Golden Era is noted to have spanned from the 80’s to 1993. The following era would be The New Generation Era, 1993-1997.
Tenta was a badass. Only guy I've seen make Haku back up against his strength in a lockup.
A lot of people forget that Dustin Rhodes actually got his start during that feud with Dusty and The Million Dollar Man. You saw it right away, he had "it". He did the right thing going to WCW, though. He would've been lost in the shuffle in the early-mid 90's pre-Goldust.
Just think of what Goldust could have achieved if only Dustin hadn't had to wage such a battle with his internal demons. I though the 3rd IC run would be the start of something awesome...then he dropped it to Godfather and poof.
The Attitude Era Never Disappoints
expect for it's sexism and racism and homophobia and miss treatment of workers which caused there cares to shorten because of it ya those are the few ways it never disappoints
Enjoy your dead wrestling because the attitude era will always be better @jsmith3946
Big Bossman is an interesting case. He was ahead of his time in the late 80's, I think. And in the early 90's, he should've held a major title. Period. To this day, I can't forgive WWE for not letting him beat Mr. Perfect cleanly at WrestleMania 7. Yes, Bret Hart won the title a few months later and I believe Bossman's feud with Mountie should've gone on a little longer (I understand the RCMP was angry at the Mountie's gimmick), but still. Bossman was immensely popular in the early 90's and his jump to WCW just killed his career. Bad cop, good cop, bad cop. He did pretty damn good regardless.
…& Boss Man was Big Bubba(Cornettes henchman) in NWA.
I wouldn’t say it killd his career, but it definetly slowed it down until he came back during the attitude era
I think he was so over he just didn’t need a belt. Like Jake Roberts. Remember when he use to handcuff his opponents to the ring and beat them with the nightstick after the match.
He was well established that belts didn't matter
I agree, still awesome to watch, even on WCW . I'm currently watching all the raw episodes, I'm in 93 still, once I get to the right point in time I will start watching nitro as well (also watching all the ppvs as they come) and smackdown and thunder, it's super interesting already how quickly you can get through the debut and first few months of raw , as it's the only show to watch so far AND it's only 45 minutes or so. Once it goes on a while it's going to take a drastic turn and start to take a super long time to watch lol. But that's the point I suppose. The way they traded wrestlers back and forth, it's the only real way to take it all in I think. Thankful for peacock right now
Charles Wright characters from Papa Shango to Godfather was huge. Scary guy that does voodoo and then to a lovable pimp
Just don’t mention his Kama Supreme Fighting Machine gimmick from the New Generation Era.
bossman was the man!! from beefing with hogan to the big show and al snow beefs lmaooo those are classics
Charles Wright was in 3 eras
In the WWE’s Golden Era: Papa Shango
The New Generation Era: Kama
Attitude Era: Godfather, GoodFather as a member of RTC
Bulldog’s 1st attitude era run with the Hart Foundation was memorable.
Weird that you made no mention of that. He was European Champion and tag team champions with Owen.
He had a decent 1st run.
The 2nd run was more embarrassing than anything. Agreed on that.
That stuff isn't considered the attitude era. Attitude Era is accepted to have started with the Montreal Screwjob and the birth of Mr. McMahon.
@@Cobralalalala That’s when it’s “officially considered” but if you watch back they talk about attitude way before Montreal.
They also were doing more provocative programming that wouldn’t be considered New Generation.
I don’t know seems to be a gray area based on interviews I’ve seen.
Its sad how many of these great performers are no longer with us.
3:32 FUN FACT: The police car Bossman used in that segment is the exact same police car used in the movie the Blues Brothers 😁
Big boss man was one of my favorites it just sucks that he died
I like how you’ve got a clip of The Godfather wearing Undertaker’s snake skin pants!! :P
Small correction, but '89 was not Barry Windham's first tenure in the WWF. He first joined the WWF in late '84.
You forgot about Barry Windham' s tow tag team championship runs with Mike Rotunda in the early days of the golden era
I always had this fun thought that if Charles Wright had the chance that he would eventually amalgamate both his personas. Sure it's stupid but on the other hand... VooDoo Pimp.
I've seen two videos talking about Barry Windham and his fist run in the WWF. It seems nobody remembers he was teamed with Mike Rotunda.
Weren’t they on wrestle mania one
The list should have been gimmicks/characters that lasted through both. Like Bossman, Taker, Bulldog, Bret Hart, HBK, Hogan, Piper, Flair, Luger. Dustin Rhodes was in both but he wasn’t Dustin Rhodes in the Attitude Era- he was Goldust. Kevin Nash was in both but he was Diesel in the Golden Era- then Kevin Nash. Sean Waltman was in both but he was 123 Kid in the Golden then two others in the Attitude. Road Warriors weren’t prolific in the attitude era. I’m in and love the channel but this was a weird one.
Need to bring back more this backstage interview stuff
Loving your transitions
George "the Animal" Steele, and Bret Hart were also in both eras.
add Rikishi too, he came in with the Headshrinkers during the last year of the Golden era.
Aside from Dustin and Shawn, every wrestlers golden era incarnation was vastly superior to their attitude era incarnation.
Well it's definitely 100% true about the undertaker vs American badass
Idk about boss man, I kinda liked him in black. as like more of an agent than typical cop
Now we know for sure at 4:50 that The Undertaker borrowed those pants from The Godfather for Survivor Series in 2000 🤣
The Shawn Michaels typo made me laugh :D
You’re kidding about Boss Man right? The guy was a midcarder for most of the Attitude days and when he mixed it up with main eventers, it was clear he wasn’t on their level. Contrast that with the guy who worked a VERY lucrative and competitive programme with the biggest star in the business at the time and who also took the IC champ right to the limit after mowing through his stablemates. At one point in the early 90s, Boss Man was the number 4 babyface in the company after Hogan, Warrior and arguably Roberts. In the Attitude era, he was long past his prime as a worker and was a midcard comedy guy
You finally make a video I about Golden era to Attitude era
From this video and scrolling down the comments, it seems like everyone has forgotten about Haku wrestling in both eras in the WWF. Good video though.
Barry Windham had 3 runs not 2. There was that whole tag team championship deal in the 80s.
Barry Windham had 3 runs in WWE! He & Mike Rotundo werre2 time tag team champs there in the early 80's & were in the first WM
I was going to add that he was tag champs with his bro-in-law.
1. Attitude era
2. Ruthless Aggression era
3. Golden Era
4. Reality Era
PG era
New generation
the tribal cheif era 😂
Legendary era
Barry Wyndom was also in the WWF in ‘85, where he was in a tag team with Mike Rotunda (Bray Wyatt’s dad).
I remember thinking Earthquake was terrible when i was a kid. Now i realize for a man that size to be so gentle is actually amazing
Barry Windham wrestled on Wrestlmania in 1985.
0:56 Many who grew up during the Attitude Era assume that it was when pro-wrestling peaked in popularity. But the highest Nielsen rating that the Monday Night Wars achieved for a single show was 8.1 when Raw went unopposed, while the highest for Nitro was 6.0, also unopposed. Even if you combine those numbers despite them happening on different dates, they still don't reach the 1st Main Event special's 15.2 in 1988 [33 million viewers] that remains an all-time record for the business to this day. Raw's most-watched segment on TV was Austin vs Taker on 06/28/99, which achieved a 9.5 rating [10.72 million viewers] after Nitro went off the air eight minutes early. Yet the entirety of the 2nd Main Event drew an 11.6, the 3rd w/ 12.8, the 4th w/ 8.6, & the 5th w/ 6.7 in '91. The original 31-episode run of Saturday Night's Main Event also drew bigger show ratings in general [reaching a zenith of 11.6] than either Raw or Smackdown [the latter maxing out at 5.8, merely two decimals above the NWA's 1st Clash of the Champions] during their respective heydays. Those are just some of the reasons why The Golden Era is officially referred to as such.
The attitude era there were more channels so less of a concentrated audience. Also had the early internet.
@@StandWatie1862 More concentration, more popularity.
@@jp3813 There will never be anything that comes close ever again on any program. Too much alternative entertainment.
@@StandWatie1862 In the 2010s, the most popular entertainment company was probably Disney. Exactly half of the top 50 highest-grossing films of that decade worldwide were from them, which was unprecedented. The masses love pop culture trends.
Believe it or not The Oddities where more over than the majority of today's roster. When the Oddities came out people waved their hands and sang along to the madness.
Imagine if boss man never died and he wouldved returned with the shield in 2012
Just wondered always how that wouldved made events become different up until now
He would probably been the mastermind behind it
Thank you vince russo..not enough credits given.
Missing Hogan who was the biggest star of the Golden Era & had one of the biggest Wrestlemania matches ever with the Rock at Wrestlemania 18.
Im surprised you didn't mention Big Bossman getting hung by Undertaker and the Brood at WrestleMania
Shawn Michaels
4 eras and 3 decades
Golden Era in the late 80s
A main event player as intercontinental champion in 93 & 94 and WWE champion at WMXII during the New Generation Era
Original member of D-X in the WWE’s attitude era in 1997 & early ‘98
2000s: Ruthless Aggression Era
I swear it feels like Undertaker was in every Era of wrestling you can name even the territory days
Aw RIP terry funk you will be missed
Earthquake looks like Kevin from The Office
While all of these coveted in both eras I would say that most of these wrestlers weren't succesful in both eras which I thought was whole point of the list
You need to do your research in the 80s Terry Funk was a World Wrestling Federation tag Team Champion

Barry Windham wrestled for WWE many years before being the Widowmaker. He was on the card at Wrestlemania 1 partnered with Mike Rotundo (IRS) against Volkov and the Sheik for the tag titles.
I feel like Papa Shango would have worked in the attitude era.
18:06 Don't forget the USA express with Mike Rotunda in 1985
fun episode to watch
The reason why Terry funk debuted as chainsaw Charlie. Kevin Dunn didn’t think attitude era fans wouldn’t know who was Terry funk. To the surprise of no one. Charlie comes out and the audience began chanting “TERRY, TERRY!”
If Charles Wright can go from voodoo preist to a pimp then anything is possible in life 😂
Golden era was like comic book characters coming to life, Attitude era and beyond expensive Jerry Springer show
At first glance I thought it was saying Big Boss Man has a brother that wrestled.
😆😆😆

Just gonna walk right by Charles Wright in the Nation before the Godfather gimmick
The background guitar solo almost sounds like the kraken them in the goldust part lol
I was always a Big Boss man fan back in the day.

Godfather actually started out the attitude era as Kama Mustafa in the Nation of Domination.
Gotta give Boss Man credit. He worked that same lame ass gimmick for years.
Road Warriors for life, L.O.D for life Thank you Hawk and Animal for making my childhood awesome
Probably because I missed the start of Boss Man's change, his change seemed like a failure to me.

Ah yes, that mid-card figure Big Show. Who totally wasn't WWF champion when Big Boss-man fueded with him.
There are more from the Golden Era that'd have been great. Notably Roddy Piper, Macho Man, Jake the Snake, Sensational Sherri.... just to name a few
They weren't part of WWE's Attitude Era in particular. The Attitude Era was only WWE. Not WCW. There's no WCW Attitude Era. They weren't working in WWE during the Attitude Era.
@@criminalmindsgirl2936 I mean had they been in the WWE longer

*Jake the Snake Roberts was battling his inner demons of drugs and alcohol during his rehab
*Sensational Sherri Martel was also in WCW during that time, where she managed Harlem Heat as Sister Sherri
You're missing the point capt obvious. This is a what if it were different
What happened to the Kenny omega video?
It's still sad that Big Boss Man died so early.
Undertaker is by far the greatest multi era superstar in the history of wwe/f
Taker scared the hell out of me as a kid. I think I stayed a fan just to keep an eye on him👀
Billy Gunn... from the Smoking Gunns to Badd Ass Billy Gunn... also Mabel to Viscera...
that was 'New Generation', not 'Golden Era'
Hard to believe the bulldogs were only Champs once. I guess I'm just misremembering the time. But I feel like as a kid they were around for so long and seemed so to be on top just as long
You can say that when Earthquake became Golga in the Attitude Era was a downgrade. However, that character was still more "over" than many of the WWE stars of today are.
The Undertaker From The Lord Of Darkness To The American Badass
You're forgetting the original western deadman. He was that before any of those lol
Jacques Rougeau and PCO vs. Steiner Bros. was tag team wrestling at it's best
Boss man swat era is my favourite
King of the chinlocks, Davey Boy Smith
Golga and the oddities were very over
Mabel to Viscera to Big daddy V is another one.
Mabel = New Generation WWF

They didn't 'compete'. They 'performed'. Now I am not saying Pro wrestling is fake. But it is not a competition. It is a performance..
Yet Taker hated the dark version with the Steph on a cross thing and cooperation taker

Bossman was supposed to feud with Austin. He was supposed to do a run in during the 98 survivor series tournament and cost Austin his match. He missed his cue.
Yeah the Attitude Era was what made Funk 🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦
I almost said the Hitman, but the branding of the Attitude era kicked off after the Montreal Screwjob
