2007 was a huge year in pop culture. In the world of Television, we would see not only the end of The Sopranos, but also the beginning of Mad Men. In film we’d see Mickey Rourke take the starring role in The Wrestler. And meanwhile in the WWE, we’d have one of the most memorable years in company history. However, not all for good reason. But how did it all happen? Well, join us today as we take a deep dive into the entire story from start to finish in the WWE in 2007: A Year in Review.

The year I became a wrestling fan as a kid and when John Cena, Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, & Batista became my childhood heroes. Seriously those guys made 2007 very memorable to me.

The Wrestlemania match with John Cena and Shawn Michaels is probably one of the most underrated matches in Mania history. That is just an excellent match.
Their rematch was wayyy better
It was a good match, but Batista vs taker was better man.
Randy Savage and George the animal Steel might want a word with you.
If you watch that match again, Shawn was visibly pissed at Cena throughout that match because of the latter's lack of selling. 😂

The Chris Benoit Incident did not just hurt WWE, but the entire wrestling business. Companies like TNA & ROH suffered as well from the mainstream media on both sides. Some folks tend to forget that this along with the rise of UFC did more harm to WWE than anything else.
That being said, I always thought that the late 00s were an Underrated time for the company. As we have seen in the video, we had alot of cool moments during this year in 2007. Also, Cena actually got cheered at New Year's Revolution, Royal Rumble 2007, Judgement Day 2007 & One Night Stand 2007.
Hopefully, 2008 year in review won't take too long.
WWE was a solid year : Cena was a BEAST, Randy Orton began to become a top heel, Edge cashed in to become World Champion, Vince completely LOST HIS MIND. But unfortunately the Chris Benoit situation happened

2007 is *NOT* a solid year for the WWE and you need to stop comparing that year to the others like 2020-2023. It's still the worst time in WWE.

This was arguably Cenas best year from an in ring standpoint as well as Batista you could see how far theyd improved to a point where they didnt need to be carried hell for Cenas case he was having bangers on every ppv just a shame he got hurt. This was also my first real exposure to Wrestling

I was at Backlash 2007 when Vince McMahon won the ECW title. I had to pinch myself to make sure it was real. Taker and Batista was my favorite feud of the year.

Backlash was one of the best PPV that year and top 10 all time IMO. The ending for the fatal 4 way was incredible and the no contest was perfect as well.

2007 was really intense and good. It was so good that I used to watch repeat telecasts of weekly WWE TV shows more than once most of the time.

WWE in 2007 at the start seemed to be on the up & up. Mania 23 had the highest buy rate at the time (it would be beaten 5 years later) Business was trending upwards. There was a who dunnit storyline with Vince which had a lot of promise. Then the Benoit tragedy happens and it's completely downhill from there.
Not to mention a majority of the superstars were getting injured

I feel like Kendrick and London don't get the credit they deserve for being an amazing tag team. They just always seem to get overlooked, but man did they put on some entertaining matches. They were probably my favorite tag team at the time.
Retrospectively, this might be the best Cena we’ve ever seen. Character work might lead you to 04’ and in ring might be 15’, but just being an absolute himbo with the title to prove it? 07 is where it’s at

This is the year that I fully became a loyal wrestling fan. I remember watching that John Cena and Shawn Michaels Monday night raw main event that night I stayed up all night watching, and I was 12 years old. I will never forget it everybody back, then was a full-blown superstar. No matter is boring. Every match was intriguing and the acting was superb. I’m just glad I got the chance to experience that.

Ahhhh 07,my first year watching wwe,now I didn’t get to watch the full year but I got to watch at the right time with the age of orton after summerslam with him rko’ing him on that table
It's a real random one but I'll always remember the Raw where McMahon pulled Santino out of the crowd for his debut match against Umaga. If i remember right the storyline was something like Vince was bitter about Umaga losing to Lashley at WM23 i think and to make him look like a killer he pulled some random dude out of the crowd for an IC title match. And he remarked about Santino's red shoes. I'd only been watching wrestling again for a few months after not watching since i was a kid in the Attitude Era and kayfabe was still completely real to me. Probably, maybe, would have figured it out sooner if my aunt didn't incorrectly predict Santino winning against Umaga in their rematch like a week or two later lol.

The beginning of of the Ruthless Aggression Era’s end and the planting of the PG Era seeds.
On a personal note, the late Undertaker/Batista rivalry and early Taker/Edge rivalry got me into wrestling. Batista and Edge had the “typical wrestler look” (typical to 15 year old me), but Undertaker seemed supernatural. So when the lights went off and the *GONG* went off, I was equal parts terrified and amazed. I badly wanted to look away and yet I couldn’t.

OMFG, what a year this was. Perhaps the last of its kind. My pals and I used to visit a friends to play SmackDown vs Raw on the PS2 each year in the guise of a 'sleeppver', and eventually play all early morning until WrestleMania was showcased at 6am in the morning here in India. WHAT A TIME THAT WAS OOF

Greatest year ever for @WWE. 14:37 And, arguably there was a moment at Unforgiven worth watching; the return of the Undertaker after cryptic vignettes that warned Mark Henry. This led to the Edge-Taker feud for their Wrestlemania 24 showdown. Deadman's Revenge.

One of the best years of my life hands down 5th grade was dope walking into homeroom and talking about wwe with my friends every morning during morning warm up classes 😂😂 track and field was my sport back in the day not gonna lie if it wasn't for the Chris benoit murder that summer I wonder where wwe would be today glad there in a better place nowadays but feel bad for his oldest son if anything he didn't deserve that 😢😢

This was the first wrestlemania my parents ever got for me ( I was 10 years old lol) and i eventually got the full thing in box set for my birthday that year as well. Ive watched the “battle of the billionaires” probably over 50 times lmfaoooo and to think that same mf that shaved vinces head would end up being the president of our country eventually is INSANE 🤣🤣🤣

This was the year I peeked at a few things, but didn't really watch it. Took years off not watching the product until year of NXT season 1 and NEXUS storyline.
On CZcams this was the time when guys like WrestlingJesus and Spinnernet weren't covering WWE as much.

WM23 was the ruthless aggression’s version of WM17 w the attitude era culminating in Rock vs Austin. Here we saw that Cena wasn’t going to lose to anyone and soon WWE became PG. That was like Austin shaking hands w mcmahon, it didn’t make sense.
Whats crazy is I was a casual fan as a kid in 2007. My mom wouldn’t let me watch so i had to sneak watch in my room. It was crazy to see Benoit on tv and then have him disappear because i missed the tribute episode and the week after. It was so swept under the rug that I didn’t even notice until a month after it happened. Crazy times
Mr Kennedy’s fall from grace this year always hurts the soul. Knowing he was suppose to beat undertaker and win the title only to get injured then suppose to get paired with Mr McMahon only to get suspended. He had it all and lost it all

Because he started winning nonstop. I called it happening when it started. Knew it Cena didn't lose the belt by the Summer of 2005. Fans would turn on him. It's happened before to other wrestlers.

The raw/ wrestlemania rematch with hbk n cena was huge. At least to me and the people around me. No1 at the time wanted cena as champion. We were all rooting for cena. Hbk didn’t wanna go over at mania n carry the belt. But we all knew who the better wrestler/ entertainer was. The show stopper
