2008 was a huge year in pop culture. In Television we would see the first season of Breaking Bad, in film, The Dark Knight hit Theatres, and meanwhile in the WWE, things would continue to move forward in a PG direction, with a brand-new top star being crowned. 2009, definitely! 2007-2009 in ring wise were my favorite ruthless aggression years. In ring that is ignoring the outside shi*estorm that was going on but let's be honest 08-09 rumbles are definitely forgotten classics. Cena and Orton won their respective rumbles at the right time. 2008 was a good year for WWE: Punk cashed in to become World Champion, Ric Flair “ retired “ and Jeff Hardy was the biggest face in the WWE finally winning the WWE Championship ( only held it for a month )

Even holding the belt for a month is a big achievement in 2008, around that time many ego maniacs and legends were around, Cena, HHH, HBK, Undertaker, Orton, Batista etc.
Jeff Hardy is my favorite wrestler of all time. Seeing him FINALLY win the big one on Armageddon made so happy man. Also shoutout Punk for cashing in and winning the big gold

Edge and randy being the champions at the start of the year after their tag team run was phenomenal
Jeff and Matt won their first World Champs, Obama became our first black president, GTA 4 released and The Dark Knight premiered. What a year.
Everything was great except for Obama becoming president, that’s when it all went downhill

It was a banner year for WWE. All PPV ranges from good to great. Iconic moment like the Flair retirement and That Cena pop. Elite feuds like Jericho-HBK and Edge-Taker. One of the best single year in WWE ever?

Ah 2008 my favorite year of WWE. The year of Hardy😊.
To me this was the final year of WWE in its prime. The PG era had begun to take over but it wasn't fully involved in every decision made. Cena wasn't completely Super Cena just yet. The HBK v Y2J feud was absolutely amazing. Orton was moving from legend killer to viper. Jeff Hardy FINALLY reached the mountain top. And most importantly, Santino Marella was the highlight of the night every single time he was on screen. "The honky tonky maneeee"
But Cena got stale by this point in terms of coming back.

@@longboy7 that's why I said "completely". It was definitely starting/had started, but I wouldn't say it was at its full blown level just yet. I'd say 2008 was the last year before Cena became the golden one in the companies eyes. Before than he was booked extremely strong but when they flipped the switch to bring him to face of the company aka Hogan level, that's when it got ridiculous.

I started watching a year before, but this is when it peaked for me. Edge and the undertaker were my favorites, so that rivalry was just magic to me as a kid. And yeah it was the start of the PG era, but the PG era those first 2 years weren’t the same PG era it became

2008 is criminally underrated and gets harsh criticism for turning PG which has nothing to do with the downfall of the product. They still had stars and epic feuds going through that year. What I consider the last greatest year of the company.
Pretty much 2008-2009 PG Era was fine but 2010-2013 was leaves a lot to be desired.

John Cena finally facing Batista at Summer Slam was a great encounter. Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho's feud was the best part of 2008 IMO.
Just a minor correction. HBK vs. Y2J at Unforgiven wasn't the catalyst to McMahon banning blading. It was their Great American Bash match prior that was the tipping point to WWE turning PG.

You didnt mention the fact that Jeff Hardy, was originally in the triple threat at Survivor Series. But a mystery person assaulted him in the stairwell and a returning Edge, was his replacement by Vickie.
Finally Graduated from High School with some Classmates from Huffman, Wenonah, Parker, Carver, Jackson-Olin, Hayes, West End, Woodland, Ramsey. The Other High Schoolers from Around the World including from Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, PBS Class of 2008 were born in 1989-90.

You forgot to mention that Randy Orton got injured in the Last Man Standing match against Triple H.
If stone cold didnt get prematurely injured in ss 97, i wonder how long steve would go in his prime beyond 2002.

That was late 2007 before they went HD in January 2008 and redesigned their stages

In many ways, 2008 was the final "great" year for WWE. While 2009 had it's moments, it was never truly the same company after this
I think even as a kid I realized this. Because by like two or three years later I stopped watching until 2022. (I’m 24 now)
Loved 2008 Saw Films Like The Corruptor Let's Go To Prison and V For Vendetta for the first time Squidbillies became one of my favorite Adult Swim series ever !!!

@@benironside1264 edge was heel #1 for me when he cash in on Taker in 2007 but this rivalry in 2008 just cemented it for me. As much as I hated 2009 Randy, Edge taking the title from Batista and Undertaker was worse for me

definitely an underrated year that should be appreciated more. taker and edge, hbk ric flair, hbk y2j, randy orton and john cena were all killing it this year. wrestlemania 24 is an all time event in my opinion

Was just starting 6th grade around this time 😂😂 the original Xbox 360 the will early days of PlayStation 3 11 years old at the time them going pg at the time really didn't bother me it wasn't even bad at first there were still some pretty interesting storylines going down around this time idk why everyone acts like it's the worst thing ever

Kane was drafted to Raw not smackdown
This was my first full calendar year of wrestling fandom, the year of my first live show (Cyber Sunday) and was also the year that, for Halloween, I was John Cena in his AWA tribute gear. Man I was cringe back then
A lot of this is inaccurate. Kane was drafted to raw, not smackdown. The match for unforgiven showed cena in the scramble but Rey mysterio replaced him, and cena was injured at summer slam by Batista. He wasn’t just out of the title picture for no reason and saved for survivor series.
8:45 Triple H was the one who got drafted to Smackdown, not Kane. Kane got sent over to RAW.
Cena in 2008 was untouchable.

This year is massively underapprciated. A lot of solid PPVs and Storylines that year. There were some bad stuff but the only real con that year was the women’s division which WWE treated like an afterthought for years. People just hate on 2008 all because they went PG that year. To me this year was great for the most part and huge improvement over how terrible 2006 and 2007 were.
