In a prior video we looked at some of the greatest face painted characters of all time. But what about the flip side to that, what about the worst gimmicks to ever don the paint? After all, not everyone can be a Sting or a Jeff Hardy. But who are the biggest examples of this? Well, that’s exactly what we’re going to be looking at today. I know not many will agree, but IMO Stardust was fine as long as Cody was doing the tag team with Golddust. But when they split up they should immediatly have repackaged Cody as somebody who can't stand playing such a cartoonish character anymore and that could have been the reason for them to split and to feud over.

i was going to post about the same, Stardust could have been a decent character IF used very sparingly, basically when teaming with Dustin as Golddust, or possibly against him... OR alternatively maybe if he was a bit more aggressive, it could have been similar to Fin Balor's Demon (or even Bray Wyatt and the fiend), where Stardust would basically be another personality Cody could change to when he needed to be extra aggressive / violent.
Cody has stated he didn’t see the vision like Vince did and didn’t give it his all. With that said had the break up been better the character could have worked
I was just coming to the comments section to type something similar. I know Cody hated playing Stardust, but he did a great job with the character. When he was portraying Stardust as a super villain type, he did such a great job that it got him a recurring role on “Arrow” as a super villain. Cody did such a great job that I can’t personally rank Stardust anywhere close to one of the worst face painted characters.
Hey, Phantasio's one WWF opponent was Tony DeVito.
Tony DeVito tied me in knots during wrestling in high school gym.
And therefore, I will always think fondly of the wrestler who pantsed him in the middle of the ring.
Stardust was perfectly fine. Just in comparison to Cody it wasn’t as good. But if you look at them individually Stardust was great.

I think one of the worst facepaint gimmicks was Dustin Rhodes' 'seven' from his wcw days
That was a cool idea but Dustin hated it
Pulling a Sting mask off to reveal that it’s Sting was done long before TNA. It was also great every time
And the worst is that rawley debuted that gimmick in a dark match not even on the show
The worst is that they named him mojo rawley in the first place.
The Ace "Knuckelball" Swartz that baseball character, I think Vince was watching The Warriors movie and thought The Baseball Furies is what the Baseballers wore and did so therefore for this bizarre character.
About a month into his run, The Abe Knuckleball Schwartz character had his named changed to MVP.
I'm not having it, Stardust was amazing. I even bought his merch. And even though Cody hated the gimmick, he performed it very well.

I liked Stardust. I don't think I would have liked it if it weren't for Cody playing Stardust. I think Cody played Stardust well and was what made the Stardust character good.

He probably got injured IRL and got the tattoo to cover it up. We do not know everything about them.
I liked Knuckleball Schwartz' facepaint and still find it fitting. Just like a baseball. I know it's cliche, but at least it was fitting well the character.
Windham had some success in WWF/WWE as a two time Tag Team champion with brother-in-law Mike Rotunda back in the 80's . Windham and Rotunda even came iinto the first WrestleMania as the title holders .
Star Dust look was actually dope in my opinion
They kept the gimmick a bit to long. Stardust was a partial success and it gave Cody crutial repetitions and varied matches.
I think Phantasmo and Stardust had a cool look. It's just the booking was terrible.

The Abe "Knuckleball" Schwartz character isn't the only time Steve Lombardi wore the face paint. He made appearances as Doink the Clown as well after Matt Bourne left the WWF. (Although Ray Apollo was the main portrayer of Doink after Bourne left.)
Schwartz looked like one of the Baseball Furies from the movie The Warriors .

Phantasio, much like Sami Callihan's "Solomon Crowe" hacker gimmick, seems like it had SO SO SO SO SO much potential. If only they would have booked it competently. I could've made him a megastar. A pro wrestler who can expertly perform sleight of hand illusions? Come on. That's got money written all over it.

WWE gave tons of spots to stardust and his 'gimmick" made him what he is today. The only error was doing stardust a bit too long.

Chris Jericho as the Painmaker was the worst/laziest face paint. Period.
I liked Mantaur in his face paint , It was the big furry helmet that made him look stupid ! No one had really used the paint to go from the face in bolt like fashion along the head . I always liked that look .
You're judging more on the gimmick rather than the actual face paint. Some of the face paints. The face paints were good but thier gimmicks sacked

Unpopular opinion... i liked stardust i still think cody made it work though he hated the gimmick he put everything he had in the character i never would have thought that he hated it until he revealed that himself because he made it look like he has fun playing the character that just shows how great he really is i totally understand why he left WWE though as Stardust would never have been a world champ it was the right decision but unlike most wrestling fans i don't look at Stardust as a complete fail and the reason for that was Cody... ofc i also don't want to see stardust again because Cody now proved that he can be s much more by just being himself 😅

You realize that Connecticut and New York are 2 different states, right? In all of your videos, you say New York when referring to WWE as if you're saying they are based out of New York but they're actually based out of Stamford, Connecticut.

I can't say whether he would have had a better run or not in WCW regardless, but it should be noted that John Tenta debuted in WCW as Avalanche and had to change his gimmick when WWF threatened to sue, saying it was too close to his Earthquake character. Dungeon of Doom was silly as hell anyway, but he was at least LESS goofy with the Avalanche gimmick.

Cody is the one of the most currently relevant wrestler right now, so that’s probably a big reason why Stardust made the list and the thumbnail (I maybe wouldn’t have clicked on the video if his face wasn’t in the thumbnail). But I can’t personally think that Stardust is anywhere close to the worse face painted gimmick.
I know Cody hated playing Stardust, but he did such a great job with the character. I enjoyed the character and I know many others did as well as it was happening (obviously not everybody liked it, of course… Cody being one, lol). When he was portraying Stardust as a super villain type, he did such a great job that it got him a recurring role on “Arrow” as a super villain.
Cody hated doing it, but he also was a true professional and made that character into something good. Far too good for it to be considered the worst (for me at least).
Why ? And how could they do that to Barry ??? That always blew my mind . You got one of greatest wrestlers and even if he had slowed down he was still 6 ft 6 ! And that is the best they could think of ? Hell I liked him way more as a Blackjack than that ! I actually liked the Blackjacks . It reminded me of when wrestling was good !

I've said it before I'll say it again I liked Stardust but Stardust should have been pushed as a psychopath. I wanted to see him trying to flamethrower people to death calling in bomb threats in having the building evacuated like really turn into the Joker but in real life it could have been an amazing character with Cody but unfortunately it was the PG ever

Sting wearing a Sting mask, and puling it off to reveal it was really him actually made sense, he was hiding as a sting fan so people wouldn't know he was there and or who was behind the mask, he did it in wcw more then once i believe, most memorably when the NwO was being attacked by a bunch of fake Stnigs that would go down with one hit, until someone hit the real Sting and he didn't fall, he just took off the mask, then started dropping the NwO....
wearing a mask to the ring just to remove it and reveal the same face point is however not so cool, it's also still not even close to the worst thing they've done.
also Brian Danielson (or Daniel Bryan at the time) wore a goat mask once, then took it off... and he is a goat. 😂
As far Im concerned Hold 80s Facepaint Gimmick such as "The Missing Link" and Kamala were Not That Great Aswell.

I don't think Star Dusts look was that bad. It was an awful gimmick, but I don't think the facepaint was the problem.
When Cody returned to the WWE, I’ll bet that he and Vince burned the Stardust attire in flames.
