Mariah talks about her most successful year of the 2000's with Barbara Walters that most successful year of Mariah's professional life was 2005 I DO NOT OWN THE RIGHTS TO THIS VIDEO
I worked with Mariah Carey in 2001 on "Glitter." She was very kind. The media tries to bring her down, but I saw her for 2 weeks every day and she was never mean to anyone at all.
When someone like Mariah Carey comes along, people will try anything and everything to take her down. She is truly gifted, and no one can take that away from her. She is simply the best. I wish her all the Love in the world.
Exactly this woman has never given anything but love to the world from day 1! And most humans will always be jealous of that, she is a queen her fans are her army!
Yep. We gotta also acknowledge how strong and independent she is as a female in this industry. Mariah persevered through *all* the lows and struggles, never gave into depression or drugs...and over 30+ years into her career, no less. That's very inspiring.
Derek A. B. She had serious struggles from 2001. She had a breakdown that was mentioned in this video because she wanted out of her record contract and her abusive husband, in response he paid radio stations to sabotage her through trash talking and not playing her music. She released albums like Glitter which underperformed, had poorly received film appearances (Glitter being one) and public opinion in general went against her. Before We Belong Together went supernova a lot of people thought her career was over.
@Jasmin Hamid i'd rather say people like justin bieber or selena gomez. Beyoncé is talented in my opinion. She's been in this game for 2 decades she worked hard for her name
@Jasmin Hamid She’s not overrated at all, why everytime it comes to awards & grammys she’s always bought up 🌚 she’s very talented & the biggest entertainer of this generation. I do agree Mariah agreed deserved way more Grammys but you don’t have to bring others down especially someone who loves Mariah
She deserved Album, Song, and Record of the Year The Grammy's shunned her by giving her her awards off camera they have always been biased of her and she doesn't need Grammy when she's got Billboard Awards which reflect sales and accomplishments on the charts
Yeah you're right. Just like when Daydream was nominated for album of the year and that didn't win either. I just can't believe that with all of the music she had in the 90's she only won 2 Grammys.
airplanefreak27 IKR... I jus wached the 1998 Interview and this one back to back and she literally asked her the same questions about Tommy. Oh well. But they're great tho.
I agree Barbra is slipping! Why interview her and waste her time asking such questions? I would have enjoyed hearing what brings her true joy! How does she protect her peace ! What’s next on her list to do ? As for this day what has she done for mankind and what will she do?? Oh btw her makeup was flawless!!
Im gonna have to blame Motrolla for mimis lack of grammys. Its a travesty that the biggest selling female artist hasnt had grammys thrown at her like some of her lessers in the industry
This is one of Mariah's best interviews and one of my favorites: comprehensive, honest and genuine - reflecting on her remarkable year and comeback. This is so special.
I have a huge Mariah Carey collection with virtually every magazine she’s ever been in and in the early years, she definitely wasn’t claiming ‘black’ like she is now. She even told people pre-fame she was white. Brenda K. Starr, who she sang backup for, admitted to Wendy Williams that Mariah told her she was white and many of her childhood friends have confirmed it. The ONLY reason Mariah now claims she’s black is to appease blacks who are desperate to claim her because she’s a beautiful, talented, light-skinned biracial woman, and knows they will cause an uproar if she doesn’t. EVERY mixed person knows that blacks see them as prettier, smarter ect and want to claim them because it makes them feel better about being black. Mariah knows it too....but she dare not utter it in public.
funny because she certainly tries to appear white. The fake straight blond hair, the bleached skin.....come on. Her music is however, black soul in nature.
@@lindseymays144 I can tell you are a racist Bitch , your whole comment degrades black Americans, I'm biracial and like Mariah said , this racist country still goes by the one drop rule, one drop of black blood and your considered black, doesn't matter that my father's white, and Brenda K Star is a lying bitter bitch, she's jealous of Mariah success, Mariah has always said that she was a multiracial women, shes never claimed to be just white.
They didn't give Amy Winehouse 'Best Album' either. Instead they gave it to Herbie Hancock for a record most people have never heard of - they do this from time to time for shock value. Hancock is a legendary musician and deserves respect - and I understand that it shouldn't always be about numbers in terms of sales - but 'Back to Black' was simply a fantastic record by anyone's standards. And the U2 record that won Best Album when Carey's 'Emanication' was nominated was a fucking abomination. She was robbed and I do sometimes think there's an element of sexism involved.
+aerialkate I despise the Grammys these days (already for grammatical reasons, given that the "y" does not change to "ie" when referring to the plural, but I digress) due to the fact that they ARE sexists and BIASED to the 'corporate' core. How about when MARIAH was nominated for half a dozen (or more) Grammys back in 1996 and went home with none! Meanwhile, Beyonce get at least one Grammy every year 'just because' the industry feels she is entitled to one, every month of the year. PATHETIC.
Thomas Farmer Ahh. I'm English so I got the y versus ie thing wrong! But I agree. Don't get me wrong - very often sales doesn't equate quality - otherwise Justin Bieber would be drowning in grammys. But sometimes, as in 'Back to Black' it does. And album for album 'Emanicpation' was clearly better than that U2 record. Much was being talked about the _death of rawk_ and female artists were consistently outselling the men's stuff (for a change!) I sincerely believe this threatened some people. They wanted to push sales for the established old rock guard.
Mariah Carey has been to hell and back. And through it all I have never seen a more determined artist who will continuously Make it Through the Rain and prove the haters wrong. She has been a Hero for me and so many others. I could never picture music Without You. It's almost like living in a Fantasy. I feel like Mariah and us Lambs well, We Belong Together. And Don't forget about us. Cause One Sweet Day, I Betcha gon' Know how much her Music Box means to our lives and Emotions. So Mariah Carey keep your head up and I will see you Someday again soon. We love you, Lambs
Barbara is a terrible interviewer. Didn't realize that til now. She must have watched the interview from 1998 and just copied the questions verbatim. That's not journalism.
This interview actually made me cry. I could hear the pain in her sighs right before she'd answer a tough question. However, I think there was beauty in her vulnerability and I admire her for giving authentic answers. So many people give her crap for being a diva and/or for how she's turned out, but I think she's incredibly strong given everything she's been through in her life. It's easy to judge a celebrity from a distance, but I think it's important to remember that even when they do give a personal interview like this, we still don't know 90% of what actually goes on behind the scenes.
CZcams’s algorithm keeps recommending Mariah Carey interviews, and I have to say, CZcams is proving to be Carey’s greatest publicist and Carey is proving to be her own greatest spokesperson. I’ve only come to know Mariah Carey’s put-upon “diva” persona, and I’ve always found her ‘dahhhling’ affectations to be off putting. Watching older interviews from the mid-90s through to the mid-2000s has been a revelation. She was so well composed, so professional, so intelligent and I am so impressed with her. Also, in her earlier years, many of her talk show appearances were promotions for children’s charities-particularly to support adopted and neglected kids. I’ve always loved Mariah Carey’s music and her voice and have felt she is overlooked for her songwriting talent and her clever/witty lyrics, but these older interviews have opened my eyes to seeing her as an all-around impressive human being. I think I am now more a fan than ever.
Growing up I had always heard about Mariah’s fame and legacy happening just before I was born (from my older siblings and parents) and I always enjoyed her music when we used to put her 90s cds and cassettes on in the car. And I remember 2005-2006 so clearly when she was everywhere and back on top, which I remember being a little bit surreal since I’d heard so much about her and her career and then it carried into my life and I got to experience it too. Such a good time!
Your so lucky❤️ I wish I could experience a time we’re Mariah was at the top. Sadly I was born right before her hype went down and didn’t even know who she was until about 4 years ago... I hope she has another comeback❤️
Light skinned black is an oxymoronic term only if you use the word "black" as a colour. Then yes. But in this case we're talking about black as a race. Then it means "black ppl that are lighter than others". Yes she's mixed & so what ? I'm mixed too (black dad, greek mom) but just like Mariah i also feel closer to my black heritage whereas i'm very light skinned and ppl oftenly think i'm moroccan or spanish.
