HD - 1975 Evinrude 4hp outboard

I had the throttle set to "off" on the start-up...hence why it didn't start first pull. But everything has been gone through, the whole ignition system is NEW with factory Evinrude parts and all other maintenance is up to date. Really well taken care of motor!

Those small 4hp and 6hp motors are worth their weight in gold. I have both and would never sell them. If you baby them and do proper maintenance you'll Have no problems.

Venomrs4 in my 50's now and worked as a marine mechanic for over 10 years
Even , Johnson ,Volvo service schools I would take these oldies any day easy to service best engine as a backup on any boat

I just recently purchased a Jon Boat, and it came with this motor, I never had a boat so I have no clue on how these motor work. I been running it on gas only. it runs fine still. You think I damaged it already?

So what do I do, just make the mix, run it normal and see how it reacts?

Yep, it needs a gas/oil mix. It could very well be damaged. It depends on how long you ran it without oil. They can run for a very short period of time without oil and still be fine. But beyond that, major damage can occur. And FYI, an engine can be damaged and still run fine. Sometimes you can't immediately tell. You'll know in time. At the very least, I would recommend that you NOT run it anymore until you use oil. Maybe do a compression check. And pull the spark plugs out and pull the starter rope while listening for any grinding sounds that could indicate failing crank bearings or connecting rod bearings.
