@managarm1349 I've had a quick look at the specs and I would go for the D or E...but the 22000 count on the E would be the route I would go. Cheers from a very warm Cape Town! Thanks for watching and posting.

@ollyk22 Thanks for the comment. Yes...the UT71x variants have been on my radar...I'll see if I can get hold of one.
    Cheers,
    Martin.

Yes, the Fluke leads can be used in any multimeter.

@mickosurda Thanks for your comments they are appreciated!
Very good idea, I have never tested the difference between true RMS and a regular DMM so I will certainly do that.
    Cheers,
    Martin.

Outstanding! Thanks for taking the effort to check that!

I've not had a Vichy in my hands but from all the reviews I've seen I would go with Extech.

Fantastic review of this meter! I will look on-line and see if this meter is still available in 2014. I am also looking for a meter that will read inductance so I can check my winding of torrid coils. Thanks again

I will have a video up tomorrow showing the measurement....but it looks like less than 1uA.

Hi Martin Great review I would really like to see you perform a comparison with the UT71E :)

@electrodacus Yes...the store is not looking bad...the loan of the two Flukes helps ;-).

This was a great review. You are very professional, voice is calm and understandable, and I give You a big + for the objectiveness!
Anyhow, it would be nice if You could do a test about true rms. I need a dmm and still wondering whether I should buy an expensive one with true rms measuring or not? I'm a newbie in repairing vintage receivers, and want to know... can we tolerate difference between true rms dmm and regular dmm in these applications? A video test 'bout that? Thanks in advance!

I'd be curious to know the current consumption when power is OFF, considering the soft power switch. I'm guessing perhaps less than 5uA but could be less than 1uA. Really nice job on your reviews!

It's worth noting that in my experience with the leads on my Uni-T (a 61E), there's something strange about the coating causing the high resistance when drawing the probes across each other like that. My other leads do not behave in that manner.

Will the "Rolls Royce" Fluke test leads fit the jack on the Uni-T DMMs, so they can be used instead of the Uni-T leads?

@mjlorton I guess that kind of test could easily drawn attention, and from the scientific point of view, You look very equipped with reference instruments - so we have a good conditions for objective results. I look forward to watch that one, and... in the meanwhile I'll try not to fry anything while relaying on my analog el cheapo Chinese multimeter. :-D
Once again, thank You kindly and greetings from Serbia, Europe!

    i bought a Uni-t 58 meter about 5 years ago
the Uni-t developed a random display counting fault.
the fault seems to pass till yesterday.
the Ohms range now refused to work ?.. so the meter finally went in the bin.
    probably beyond repair cost.
i certainly wont buy another of these.
