  • Pakistan's Weapon Imports from China Amplifying Economic Crisis? | Vantage with Palki Sharma
Islamabad has announced a $86 Million grant for Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, amid protests in the region against high electricity prices. But can Pakistan afford the grant? Pakistan is mired in debt, with 42% of it being external debt. Islamabad owes foreign nations and institutions about $125 Billion. The lion's share of Pakistan's debt is owed to China. Islamabad pays China back both directly and indirectly. Direct loan repayments are supplemented with arms purchases. 82% of Pakistan's defence imports between 2019 and 2023 were from China. This includes big ticket items like submarines worth $4-5 billion, which Pakistan cannot afford amidst its economic crisis.

I don't think Pakistan is buying, nor China is selling. China is using Pakistan as its naval base and air base. All those subs Pakistan is allegedly buying are actually owned and operated by China. By saying that these subs are bought by Pakistan, China doesn't have to face any reaction from US camp. This is the case with war planes too. For now it is 12 planes. Very soon this count will go up.

I agree with you on this score.
The reason for this is the fact that strength of the military might doesn't end with acquiring advanced hardware only. Those have to be maintained and operated by highly skilled military personnel. Failure to reach the required skill to do such job may lead to disastrous consequences--- especially in respect of stealth submarines. It's convenient for Pakistan to let the Chinese men and officers handle the operational side in the name of on-job training under Chinese navy for an indefinite period of time. Pakistan with its economy in shamble and an insatiable urge to project its military power has no other alternative.🥲

Their main concern is earning; as long as they don't buy anything, their politicians won't benefit. They also anticipate internal disturbances in their country, so they feel the need for these weapons to defend themselves and assert superiority over India. It's baffling why their civilians allow their country to invest in such weapons instead of using the funds for their own people's welfare

So, ostensibly these arms will protect Pakistan from its external enemies. The threat however, is not from outside- it’s from the inside - from its own neglected population.
Just as it was when the military lost 1/2 of the country (now Bangladesh).
The weapons will not protect Pakistan from splitting at the seams. No amount of military suppression will deter Baloch or Pushtoon separatists from their effort to break the country. It’s happened in the past and in all likelihood will happen again. India has no interest in Pakistan. If they had they could’ve just walked in and be welcomed by Pakistani population in 1971. Pakistan faces no threat of any aggression from India, if one is to track the diplomatic and the defense and military stance followed by India, ever since the two nations attained independence, and in all probabilities, the same policy by India shall likely continue, going forward as well. Still, Pakistan’s piling up weapons and incurring huge expenses, despite its economy in a pronouncedly deteriorated condition.
It’s the Pakistani government and not the army that needs to justify these decisions to the people of the country, if it actually is a democracy and not a sham. It's high time that at least now, Pakistan sets its priorities right. The country's focus should now be to alleviate the prevalent alarmingly high poverty levels and get its derailed economy back on track rather than on stacking up ammunition.

An Indian highest priority VIP helicopter mission transporting India's most important senior commander Bipin as well as many of India's most highest ranking captains, generals, officers, chiefs, squadron leaders all onboard crashed resulting in the death of all 14 passengers. If India cannot even guarantee their most senior military officer safety during a short and simple 4 minute flight, how can they possibly accomplish anything?
This is not a fairy tale made up by India's adversaries to make it as though India's military is incompetent. It's the truth with concrete evidence of it happening and I have it all on video. This event will go down in history as one of the best of all time.

Pakistan is a strategic asset for both China and the US. For China Pakistan is useful in a two front war with India and also to waste Indian military resources in Kashmir by having Pakistani ifiltrators at the Kashmir border. For the US Pakistan is like a watchtower to keep an eye on Russia and the middle east from Afghanistan/Iran to Saudi Arabia. For China and the US India is just a big market to expand their business interests. China on the consumer market front and the US in IT sector (cheap Indian IT workers) and for the sales of military hardware. For Pakistan both will bear economic loss if they have to just to keep Pakistan as a viable entity.

You need more info on geopolitics to connect the dots correctly, right know Pakistan isn’t really anyone’s true ally. Pakistan was a good friend of America until it hid Osama in its country which destroyed Americas trust, Pakistan doesn’t want to get sanctions from the US at the same time it wants to be friends with china along America. It also is greedy

I heard gulf countries are investing billions over businesses in pakistan in coming days. I heard the number is 60B. But I think that depends on Indian election results because of its congress it'll be a sellout party to gulf and pakistan and USA and so on but if it's bjp then it'll get difficult for pakistan for ever, that what I think and we'll know on June 4th.

China also said they were going to invest $62 billion for their CPEC project in Pakistan. That was 10 years ago now and during that time the Pakistani economy has only gone from bad to worse, with the CPEC project constantly getting derailed and delayed. Doesn't matter how much you invest unless you have internal stability

    • @namednpc

People invest in a market where they expect profit for their investment isn't it?? So tell me how much is Pakistan growing?? What is their growth rate and what is their inflation rate?? People are dying to get their two meals per day and it's called development?? Saudi Arabia is buying gold mines with 5-6 billion dollars is it an investment for Pakistan?? What Pakistan gets from that 6 billion?? So if Pakistan is growing how come they're asking for a bailout from the IMF, even if gulf countries invest it looks bleak for Pakistan.
