Dear Shekhar ji you are absolutely correct. The actual Kashmiri people from the Kashmir valley are ethnically and culturally distinct from that of "Kashmir" in Pakistan. I put the word in quote marks because actually the "Kashmiri" in Pakistan at best can be termed Jamuiites... As that is what that territory was before taken by Pakistani army and labelled 'Azad Kashmir'. As to the people on that side they are ethnically, genetically and culturally Punjabi. They speak Potohari which is a dialect of Punjabi. I feel people should be aware of this...

@@jancyvargheese5351 I don't agree with that. Only 5% in Pak Kashmir speak the Kashmiri tongue and they would be from the actual Kashmiri ethnic group. The difference are not only linguistic.. The people of Pak Kashmir have strong linguistic, cultural and ethnic affinity with upper Punjab and Potohar region of Pakistani Punjab. Culturally the Kashmiri of the Kashmir valley are distinct too, their staple grain is rice whereas on the other side they are wheat chapatti eaters in addition to this the concept of the Kashmiri wazwan is entirely unknown in Pakistani Kashmir. In terms of caste the people in the Pak side are 'Jatt, Rajput, Khan all of which are predominantly Punjabi castes.
By the way... I am not here to say one group is better than the other but Pak "Kashmiris" have adopted an identity that does not belong to them.

This is the main problem of this region..the people residing there are not united in their views. The J&K citizens are themselves responsible for division of their state. Very unfortunate.
