YT Capra Shred - First Ride Video - Romero Canyon - Santa Barbara

- Second ride on the new YT Capra Shred 29 (size XL) - first time on video. I am in love with this thing. Climbs way better than I thought it would and descends like a beast. We rode Romero Canyon in the Santa Barbara area and ran into some hikers midway through one of my favorite sections so it got cut short a bit. Romero Canyon is a half up/ half down ride with about a 1500 foot climb on fire road and single-track. From there, it is all DH sections with a few creek crossings and a couple of hike-a-bike sections. There are not any jumps or wood features but there are plenty of fun rock gardens. The ride starts with a steep fire road climb but you get to charge that thing as a final treat at the end of your ride.

Ha- I guess the stars aligned. I think they are starting be delivered to more peeps now. I am planning a trip to Big Bear soon. I am sure there will be some up there.

Thanks. I just ordered a new GoPro. I will try some different mounts and angles in the coming weeks.

I am thinking of buying a new capra too.
Just under 6’1”. My arms are long and that was one of the deciding factors for the size XL. Fits perfect.
Why 29? Why not 27,5??
It all came down to my preference. I was on a 26” Santa Cruz Nomad Carbon. I rode my friend’s 29” MegaTower and another friend’s 29” NukeProof Mega 290. I liked both of those bikes and I prefer a larger bike in general. I was able to test ride the Capra 29 XL at the YT Mill and that confirmed it for me.
Coach RZ with Lockdown?
SmokinJoe No. This was several months ago before things were locked down. Coincidentally, it was the exact same day they made the official announcement of the Capra shred. I was interested in a Capa anyways so I drove down to test both sizes. They only let me ride around the parking lot but that was enough for me to get a good feel for it. Not sure what their protocol is today but at the time that’s what I had access to.
Coach RZ Sorry wrong question. Does it have a lockout and an electric seat post?
No complete lockout. Fork and Shock bit have “Firm” settings that I use while climbing. Seatpost Dropper is YT’s version and it is. It electric. My bike is set up with all components that are listed on the YT website with the exception being the Grips which I changed to Oury.

That would be great. I will try to get a friend to catch me following them this weekend at the park. Other than that, I don’t have anyone willing to hike up and film me while I ride. Ha!
