- One of our subscribers left us a question asking how we can be a couple when we are so differnt from one another.
We decided to answer his question on our weekly drive to the grocery store. We shared a few additional things, as well.

My mom and stepdad were total opposites. They disagreed on music, TV shows, movies. But they were a few weeks short, of being married, for 20 years. He died a week before their 20th wedding anniversary. They were great together. I miss both of them.
You guys don't need to justify your relationship to anyone. As long as you're happy. That's all that matters. I enjoy your videos.
Video length don't bother me. It can be 3 minutes long or 3 hours long. It just has to entertain me.

Hi Steve ! Gary from Rochester, New York here......Thanks so much for addressing my "opposites" comment on your video today. I am honored ! Please allow me to say I wasn't being at all judgemental with my question, but rather just extremely curious. Sometimes when you are directly speaking with Jim about any given topic it looks like he is either saying to himself "why is he asking me this ?", or other times like he wants to find the frying pan and hit you in the head with it. Much of my "opposites" question actually pertains more to the way you two physically interact with each other in general conversation, as opposed to various individual personality traits (although that is very interesting to me too). You always seem so happy and jovial all the time, where Jim always seems....well......the opposite (ie the WalMart trip conversations). Hope I am explaining myself in an understandable way. Anyways, I love your videos and always look forward to the next one ! Stay safe out there - Gary

I’ve always been a very positive person and I seem to get happier and more positive with each passing year. Unfortunately Jim does seem to be getting crankier and crankIer with each passing year. 🙁 He also really doesn’t like to be in my videos very much, so I think that’s also a part of it. When we’re not in front of the camera he’s usually pretty happy. 😊👍

When you are together for that long, you tend not to act like new lovers do. You tend to be more "seasoned" and have interests of your own.
I swear by Bar Keepers! I use it to clean my ceramic tile on the patio too and they come out looking like new. Very much worth the price!

My husband & I do things together, but he likes more fix them up shows & westerns while I like more oldies TV shows & romances. So we definitely take a break in the evening when we watch our own TV in separate rooms. Good to see you guys looking so happy.😊

You even had 2 shopping carts with separate groceries, 🤣😂 My husband and I have been together for 44 years and we are different too. I being an only child can be alone and happy for long periods of time and don't need to get out of the house. Covid lock down was nothing new to me, lol. My husband gets cabin fever and has to go for a drive.

Hello Steve, it was nice seeing the two of you discussing your relationship. My partner and I share many like and dislikes. We are two very ordinary looking and acting men. We’ve been together 25 years. Married for ten of those years. He is is very religious, I am not. He’s a big reader, I’m not. We used to love to go to clubs and meet friends. We no longer do that because most clubs have gone away. And friends are often to busy. Sometimes we get lucky and meet friends for diner. We share our love of music, especially classical music. We are season ticket holders for the opera and symphony seasons. We do love to travel. We do yearly trips to Europe and NYC. But on our last trip two months ago we were in Italy for three weeks and we decided that it’s getting harder to travel. But all in all We’re very happy together. Changing the subject to your sink, fill your sink with hot water and pour half a gallon of bleach in each side. Let it soak over night. Bleach does wonders.

You can use The Works toilet bowl cleaner or something similar to get the stains off your porcelain sink. It's designed to get stains off porcelain toilets. It also works on porcelain sinks. I use it on mine. Just make sure to rinse the sink good afterwards.

Hi Steve and Jim, I really enjoyed this particular video. There are so many comparisons between you guys and my husband and I. Even referring back to earlier times. If I made a video of us, people would also comment "how are those two together"?
No person or relationship is the same as it was decades ago. As we grow older, our tastes, thoughts and feelings change on just about everything yet we are still the same in many ways. I hope that makes sense. Like you guys, my husband and I have stood the test of time with changes. I've always been an extremely independent woman. And while I've enjoyed that, I have also enjoyed the protection of my man. I am also a deep thinker, yet I have taken extreme gambles in life without much thought. Because if I did think about those things too much, we wouldn't be where we are now.
I have to agree with Ajax, not being the same. Then when you think about, products that are still somehow around from our past, nothing seems to be anything as it was. Thanks to Robert and your demonstration, I am going to give that a try.

I use bar keepers all over my house and have also cleaned old brass door knobs with it, it is an excellent cleanser, and the liquid version works better for my glass stove than the regular stove top cleaner. Like all cleaners, it works in layers so each time you will see improvement

Seems to me you guys are a well-matched couple with the stuff that counts. All of your edges fit together. My hubby and I are very different, but it works because we love each other. We created the mosaic of our life, and when we look back at it, it is not at all what we imagined, but it works.

Your relationship sounds similar to mine (or what was - now widowed - he passed in October). I think your birth signs have a bit to it also. We were opposites but 30 years together. Sometimes it’s the differences that build the base of your relationship.

Hi guys ! on the sink thing, I have the same issue, but what has worked really well is I wash it with hot soapy dawn then spray the sink with the kitchen and bath cleaner with bleach store brand is ok also but in my case it really works ! I do it all the time no need to scrub, Just spray it on leave it for about 10 minutes and rinse sink is white and clean ! Take care New Sub here from Pa
Hi Chip, thanks for the tip. That is how Jim has always clean the sink, but for some reason it doesn’t work for us. It might be the kind of dish soap we use. Or maybe it’s because we leave the dishwater in the sink all day long. We seriously tried dozens of products and nothing would take the stain away until I used the barkeepers friend, which worked like magic. I’m glad you didn’t have the same issues we did. Scott and I are total opposites in some ways, he's a gamer and plays D&D and constantly on his phone playing games. Myself, I'd rather be outside messing around in the garden or off fishing or hunting. I do most of the cooking being a retired chef. For the most part we're a quiet gay couple growing old together, it's the simple things in life that make us happy and our two dogs of course.

Never having much success in gay relationships of any length, I have to say it makes me happy when they work out, no matter the terms. Whatever works. I rediscovered gayming and Twitch at the beginning of the COVID lockdown. The sense of community in the live chat sections during games did get me through a lot. Dead by Daylight recently received an update which may explain an increase in viewership. The violence in game is beyond its appeal to me. I agree with Jim that watching/playing has much to do with the individual streamers. ❤️ Paul

Paul. I think some people are happier alone. I’m in a relationship 30 plus years and it’s basically a convenience thing but if I’m single again that’s how I’m staying. There’s nothing wrong with being on your own and being happy. ❤

Have You tried using CLR stain remover and hard water cleanser. I found out that even if you don’t have hard water, a sink gets a lot of traffic and grime. You can get CLR just about anywhere. Thanks for the great video. You and Jim are what my Husband and I used to call “simple opposites”! We liked certain things we did together like watching movies that we both liked, but there were other things that we did apart. He liked fishing and I liked reading,so He fished while I read and still spent the day together! It was a Win Win situation. 😊 Blessings to You,Steve, and Jim! ❤❤❤

I think after 17 years Steve the porcelain had just lost its finish. I would just get a new sink ! 😂 when I replaced mine I got stainless steel and I love it so easy to clean ❤ just a thought!

My husband and I I do separate things. He’s a huge homebody and I get out more. We’re still close. I do my things. I just got back from a Caribbean cruise with my sister. He has no interest in cruising.

Hello Steve! Making videos has to be a lot of fun. I actually never played a video game either. I understand giving a spouce their space. I've slowed down a lot and live low-key. Friends are nice at any age. As for the two of you, not having everything in common is very nice. One thing this that stands out, is how close you are to each other and it's a beautiful sight. I am very happy for both of you. I like CZcams for cooking and dieting videos. Celebrity history and the music. My primary memory for Palm Springs was once being checked in at Betty Ford Center at Eisenhower and actually meeting Betty who was carring a Gucci bag and I knew she was cool to open up and talk to her. She was lovely and warm. The bars there are very nice and I could drive from the San Fernando Valley. Once in a while, staying over Palm Springs for the weekend was nice. I live now in Toronto, Ontario and out of California after a lifetime in Los Angeles. I love it here but I am really a California boy at heart and always will be. I remember a lot of good things including working in West Hollywood, CA. I used to go dancing at Studio One and that was a lot fun back in the day. Keep up the wonderful channel. I consider myself lucky to be living here now. The last time I was in Palm Springs was to see Jimmy James (A Friend) perform at a local bar before the pandemic. I am a loner too dont have too many friends. I love my smart phone my computer my blu ray player. I am single never married or had children. I still enjoy the way my life is. I love You tube with never ending videos and love crime videos. And mainly i am not gay but do enjoy you too as a couple and Palm Springs videos. I am a night person and rest till one oclock in the afternoon unless i have to go somewhere. I was the baby of the family,. Trudy was 12 years older and Nancy was 15 years older and Steve was 7 years older. So they left when i was young except Steve. I didnt know my cousins much and had no grandpa's to enjoy. I had grandmothers until I was a teenager. I am 67 now and enjoy your channel never smoked or drank. Nice to tell alittle bit of me. Oh it is nice to know the two of you and i hope for a while more to enjoy you guys. And no i dont like video games at all. So what would i do with Jim? So all people like different things. I love horror movies so much. The Universal monsters. I love Godzilla movies. And love to listen to the Beatles. Well great video today. O!! I have to leave you a sink cleaning tip. Take the Barkeeper's Friend or some Bon Ami. Sprinkle it liberally on inside of sink. Add a cup of white vinegar, place plug in sink and fill with hot water. Leave to sit overnight.... you'll have sparkling clean sink next day after emptying, rinse with running water and no scrubbing needed!!😊

It seems to me like you are compatible in the ways that count and having different interests/ pursuits and hobbies keeps a relationship alive and vibrant, because you're happy allowing each other that freedom of choice, while striking a happy balance and allowing for time to relate and communicate. It's a healthy way compared to feeling "obliged" by the so-called norms of society to have lots of interests in common or constantly being in each other's company. It's like living in a stranglehold of conformity. That's it!.... care for each other, stay well.....and all will be well!🤗🌈

Your relationship is a recipe for success. You need to be your own person. I'd soon get tired of hanging around with my partner all the time. I have friends. He has friends. We have our own interests. Just had a dinner for our 50 year anniversary, so you see it works.

You try "Magic Eraser"...I have removed almost every stain best with those. I always preferred aluminum sinks because of staining and chipping of enamel.

Great Video! Although you're different on a lot of surface level things, your core values are the same. The number one cause of divorce is money, and you seem to be on the same page on that. Don't underestimate getting up/going to bed at the same time either. I once dated a guy who was a severe night owl, while I prefer to be up and moving by 8am, its like we lived in separate time zones, he didn't do anything before 2 or 4pm most days!

The thing is, imo, you complement each other in many ways too. More important is that it seems you support each other in being who and do what you want to do. I think Jim has been very supportive of your YouTubing, not requiring you to be by his side all the time, entertaining him all the time. That wouldn't be hugely self-fulfilling, imo. I also grew up in a large family, as well as spending many years in the military (you spend more time with your shipmates than your partners, and family), and now, over the last 20yrs or so (I'm 63) I like a quiet house for the most part.

And even though I said I would love to have a house full of people staying with us all of the time that’s probably more of a fantasy. In reality we are more like you and I actually do prefer having a nice quiet home at this point in life too lol! 😄👍

As a Jimesque loner, traditional "couplehood" has always confounded me. Why do people gravitate towards someone who shares all the same interests? That sounds a little boring, to me. I think you are each content with your worlds, and confident enough that opposite views and interests aren't perceived as threatening to your own.
