Heya. Great content, keep it up. Quick question. I’m going to a show in Toronto Ontario Canada this weekend. I’m looking at the AR vs a Defy. I’m a bigger rider at 6’3 270. Just wondering which you would suggest. Tx much.

I have the Contend AR 2 and I personally like this bike the most for road usage. Will be snagging a PROPEL ADVANCED 1 once i find a buyer for my AR 2. Giant makes solid bikes for sure.

Like the content you provide in your channel, just today was in bike shop looking at and trying out contend sl1 (2019) as its on sale right now, but by watching this think i will go for preodering the 2020 model as its has full carbon fork for 50 euros extra

i have both a GIANT contend 3 AND a GIANT contend ar3......they are both extraordinary!....for $ 2000 i have TWO great bikes that are less than half the price of 1 comparable bike from some other makers...both bikes weigh in at 22.5 lbs...both are stiff framed and very well built...the contend 3 at $ 800 IS LIGHT AND SUPER FAST with easy shifting 8 speed cassette...its got a great RED paint finish and after i upgraded to 700x32mm tires its an all around great bike. The AR3 is a beautiful black finish with large white lettering...it feels nearly identical to the base bike but has an extra gear (9) in the rear and a double disc setup....im 71 years old and i must tell you i FLY on these bikes and can climb very effectively due to excellent gearing and light weight....i RECOMMEND these bikes 100%.....

My local bike shop stocks Giant and Merida. I have £1000 budget, seriously tempted by the SL1. Thanks for the video.

Hi I have the Marin Gestalt X10 and was considering the Giant SL1 disc. Will the giant be faster on the road?. I know the X10 is a gravel but I have never rode a road bike.

Hi have SL1. First of all I love the colour :-) I know... it is very subjective. I've bought it for commuting. I Ireland it comes with semi-compact crank-set (52-36) and I replaced it with compact one (50-34) as it is more suitable for city riding and some hills with 11% gradient. It doesn't feel heavy. This is endurance bike and in that role it is fantastic. It could be commuting or spins with friends, it will do those things quite nicely. For the fist time I use 11-speed 105 and it works very well. Shifting is very smooth and light. I think it is better than Ultegra 6700 on my other bike. Ride is very smooth and more comfortable than on my second bike due to 28mm tyres. I use 23/25mm on my other bike. Position is quite comfortable but it depends on so many factors (stem length, stem angle, saddle etc.) This bike has bottom mounting points for carriers/rack with is very useful. I put a rack on it. It looks terrible now ;-) but I can take a lot of stuff with me to my work. Overall I'm very happy with that purchase. At that price it is very good offer.

Would you say it's better suited for commuting than the Contend AR series?

I've got the same bike, love it. With semi-compact also. I've changed the cassette to 11-32 (from 11-30) for the hills but not sure it makes much difference. Did it make much of a difference when you went to 50-34? Its a little hilly where I live.

Contend AR and Contend SL has different geo, SL has shorter wheelsbase and chainstay, and also different length of seat tube and top tube. Nice "inside"

    105
Ability to run multiple wheel sizes
    Great price
    Comfortable riding position
Lots of compliance thanx to dfuse seatpost
Just need to add giants carbon dfuse bars a set of 650 by 47mm wheels for Offroad days and a 32c road tire on stock rims for road days and it’s perfect 👌

I think last year's base content 1 came with the tubeless tires at least here In the US ...that no longer seems to be the case. Tubeless ready only...also I think the content 1 use can use up to 32c.
