Thanks for the great over view. Is it possible to put fenders on this along with a pannier rack on the back? Any recommendations?
I originally bought a tough road slr Gx2 to upgrade my old 2014 escape. I liked it, but I wanted something that felt lighter/faster. I just swapped it out for the AR 3 and I couldn’t be any happier. I was nervous getting the “low end” model, but it works great!
Excellent and helpful content.
Thanks for taking do do such a throughout review! I’ve been trying to narrow down between a variety of different brands and models, and this helped me decided on picking up an AR1.
I’m leaning towards the AR1 also, I don’t like the giant brake setup on the AR2 & AR3.
Love that giant bike!! My perfect bike!!!
What is the exact bottom bracket on the Contend AR3?
Contend AR probably the best choice for a road bike. Glad i got the grey one.
Great advice !!
going to pick up my 2021 ar3 this Saturday took for ever to find one in stock around here but I finally secured mine about 2 hour drive from the house. my question is which pedals should I run was thinking about some hybrid 2 in one pedals so i can flat pedal or run the clipless side if I want to later on. would love to hear some suggestions
How would you compare the ar1 to the domane or checkpoint?
Just picked up an AR 3 from my local bike shop. thanks for this informative video! looking forward to my first ride.
@TheLifeofDare it didnt come with pedals. my bike shop was nice enough to include some cheap flats for free when they assembled it.
Great vid 👍🏻👍🏻
Great comparison vid
Great video!
What weight is the small frame?
Hey,great video..which giant straight bar can I get for $1500..cliff
What is the saddle of the grey Giant
Pleasee.iam buying this bike soon but is this bike good for a bulb race or long distance is it heavy ??
Olá..tenho uma giant ...t...mobile. sabe me informar qual o ano fabricado...Mto obrigado. Moro no Brasil.
I liked your video, I looking at a Fastroad SL 1 for $1550 Australian dollars, with pedals and shoes. Have you heard of anyone converting this to a gravel or hybrid bike? Have you done a video on it?
Hey,I would like 105 groupset..on a straight bar giant with an aluminium frames with a carbon fork.
Don't think Giant offers that, but some other brands like Cannondale and Canyon should have 105 flat bar (a lot cheaper than drop bars).
Great video already wishing I'd picked this bike. Just bought a contend 2 in metallic blue. Not received it yet. Up grade from my giant escape 2 hybrid going back to drop bars can't wait until it gets here.
Great to hear. Planning to buy an Escape for college. How does it ride? Is the D-Fuse seatpost noticeable?
@@avalsirithanawat1772 hi. The escape was a great bike, the seat post isnt noticeable. I've sold mine now and up graded to a Ridley helium. Happy riding.
Dean Levett thanks for your speedy reply. I’ve read that there’s a $30 shipping and handling fee on giant bicycles (not sure about bikes that are in stock at LBS), was that the case for you?
@@avalsirithanawat1772 free delivery in the UK.
Dean Levett gotcha gotcha. Thx :)
hi there... what size is your own Giant Contend, and how tall are you! would be good to know to help figure stuff out..
I am 5 ft 8 and this bike is a small. Now I like more aggressive fits on my bikes. I could have also could have bought a medium and been just fine!
What tires did you install on your bike? Thanks.
Vittoria Terreno drys
Nice review. Is it possible to change the 50/34 crankset to a 46/30? 1🙂
Yes!
Cool! Thanks.
HI there really good video. Hello from Ireland. I cycle about 100km per week. A mix of road and canal (light gravel trails). I currently have a 2008 Trek 1500 “Discovery Channel” model which I like. It has Ultegra group set. Do you think the group set on the Contend AR3 would match that (based on Shimano trickle down effect over the years)? And do you think this is suitable for my mix of cycling? It is just a weekend hobby for me as my 51 year old knees don’t like running or football as much any more! I have a local retailer who has an AR3 for 1099 Euros which is inside my budget. What do you think? Thanks again. Declan.
Declan Kenny that is what I ride and I have no complaints for it! If you want to upgrade I would get the 105 model for the money. Sora is nine speed and has great gear range. The 105 just gets you even more bang for your buck.
Andy's Bike Shop - many thanks for your speedy reply. I appreciate it.
What bottle cages are these?
Ragnar Loðbrók salsa nickless cages
What do you think of the Revolt 2?
That video is coming!
Hey bro can u suggest me nice road bike below 1000 $ .,, hoping for fast reply
Contend AR 3 or the Contend line is also good just depends what you want to do!
Hey what seat post would you recommend for the giant AR 3 . The original seat mines came with isn’t comfortable to me .
You should replace the seat without changing the seat post if possible. The contend has a proprietary "D-shaped" seat post, so if you get a new post it will not fit. As far as saddles go, it's worth going in to a local bike shop to take a look since it's hard to get a feel for one over the internet, and each person will find that they like some styles better than others.
What's the cheapest giant ?
Why would someone buy a Contend AR 3 over the Revolt 2, which has more versatile tires stock, and hydraulic disc brakes? Though it does trade having a Shimano Sora crank for a FSA crank... I’m not trying to trash the AR 3, but I’m asking what value it has over the similarly priced Revolt 2
Basically it comes down to fit and the geometry. The Revolt is a gravel geometry the Contend AR is a road geometry bike. So if you like the fit of a road bike and are ok with running tires that are 38 or below then get the Contend. Otherwise if you want the biggest tire possibly and that is really important to you then you want to go with the Revolt.
@@andysbikeshop7654 Which do you prefer?
Do you use clipless pedals!
Yes! Shimano mountain bike double sided!
Where is your shop located
Cedar Falls, IA. U.S.A

This bike comes tubeless?
Not out of the box but it can be converted with some tape, valves and tubeless tires.
Am 23 years old and I cant ride a bike bit they look kool and they are very expensive in the Caribbean
Agent Sixx if u want a road bike for under 300 get the triban btwin rn 100 i costs 260 euros here in Ireland and is good
★
Makes me laugh that $1000 is seen as a good price for a bike with Sora components, 6 years ago you'd pay $500 for Sora, $700-750 for Tiagra and $1000 for 105. Also, that brake system is not it... What are Giant thinking? That ugly brake system on the handlebar needs to go!
Funny , the bigger frames are called Unisex and anything below a 50 is called a woman’s bike. Ah is there no such thing as a guy that’s possibly 5’4”. I noticed that Norco does this as well . Is it politically incorrect to use the word “ Male “ now ?
Vai Corinthians !!!
Too bad it ain't a thousand bucks no more.
This person needs to stay on a bicycle. For reals.
