New video ideas:
1. Bike recommendations in different categories and price points especially for beginners and intermediates.
2. Maintenance product recommendations
3. Your shop tour 😅
Wish there were more good, honest, and skilled bicycle mechanics like you around. Looks like you do a really sound job. 👍
As an employee of one of the Giant Stores in Poland I can confirm: this one looks like a new bike! Great work, keep it up.
Awesome! Thanks Tomas🧡⚙️
It is amazing what a good service can do to any bike! My Contend has just passed the 40,000km mark, so it's seen a fair few of these services. Over the years I've learned how to do it all myself, and the satisfaction of riding away with a clean, sharp bike is incredible! It may be a cheap/entry level bike, but it's very, very capable!
Awesome! Enjoy all your work on it! Yes we find the lower end components are actually very reliable and robust🧡
R4700 Tiagra? Regardless, what has needed replaced in the drivetrain in 40,000 km?
Its a great day when a new bikespeeds vids comes out. I have a small request, would it be possible you could say how old each bike your working on is? Just think its neat to know how long the bikes gone without a full service. Cheers :)
This one specifically was a 2021, glad you enjoy the videos 🧡
Nice job!
Again, youve restored this bike to almost as new. Integrity there by not charging for a new chain.
Amazed the rider continued to ride with a broken spoke with resulting wheel so out of true the rear tyre was dangerously worn. Torque all bolts , spot on again. Made my Wednesday evening again. No stone unturned here. Exellent
Thank you Andre we appreciate all the support. Yes this one was in desperate need of it’s work🧡
Where I love the climate, roads, and amount of sun is perfect. The problems we have because of that is we never service our bikes because we don’t have real reasons to, until we get a catastrophic bike failure. Then we have tons of repairs to do because we didn’t notice anything else going wrong. Regular maintenance is key. Even perfect conditions can cause bike problems.
Spot on there ⚙️
Your work is made all the more impressive by the fact that you've completed it with a 32'' television strapped to your wrist. Fair balls.
Lol🧡
I ride in devon and i live near the beach, can agree with the sand theory 😂
Great video, timing, voiceover description quality.
If I may, I’d suggest that a proper bike wash before servicing would help the assessment and make work less messy with sticky grease and sand.
Keep up
Peace in the universe once again!
Haha yes the bike gods are happy with us today🧡
Another job well done! 👏 The sand was really all over the bike. Good to get that off before it causes a lot of damage. I live in Oslo, Norway. So our local challenge is that in winter the roads and pavements and even the bike paths are doused in salt. That stuff is corroding your components so fast you can watch it happen. Which is why I wash my bike almost after every ride. At least once a week. A couple of years back I actually destroyed my commuter bike by not taking care of it in the winter.
That’s a very similar problem we have with the sea salt in the air. It’s a tricky challenge 🧡
Yes that sand is bad it’s like glue I ride Long Island New York some mountain some road great job😎
The coast is a right pain!🧡⚙️
I have learned so much from your videos about how to service a bike. Thank you so much!!!
Thanks Johny🧡⚙️
I ride in Australia, it’s hot and very dusty, my bike clean involves a air line and a quick dust over with a soft cloth, the only thing that needs a good cleaning is the chain occasionally 👍great site and I love watching your posts
That’s a great routine there, spot on. Thanks for watching Martin🧡⚙️
Now thats a cleaning top job.
Thanks malberto!🧡⚙️
I've come to notice you have a collection of nice watches..
Keep up the good work bike speeds..
Always looking forward to your videos and eye to detail..
We are both Simon and I watch fans. Thanks very much as always and enjoy all the content 🧡⚙️
Saved in good time as nothing worse than sand/grease combo grinding its way into the components.
Definitely a killer 🧡⚙️
Nice job if I lived your way I would get you to service my bike. Love watching your work.
20K - well deserved !
Thank you Wayne!🧡⚙️
I am in Yatton ,nr Weston -super -nightmare😊.Somerset has pretty good areas.Cheddar,Crooks peak,Somerset levels.I have a kuota Kryon with Ultegra R8000,mechanical.looking forward to Spring.keep the vids rolling 👍
Great ride! Enjoy it!🧡⚙️
I love your relaxing voice and accent.... you have such a knowledgeable way of talking without coming off as a know it all.... I've binge watched your vids the last week or so
We try hard with the voiceover so its very much appreciated 🧡
Thanks for this video and congratulations to 20k subscribers. I am proud to be 1/20.000 of them 😂🌞 greetings from Germany again and keep on going on the way to 100k 😘🌞🍀
Thanks Maik. We appreciate you coming along on the journey🧡
What a sweet watch.
Thank you!🧡
@@Bikespeeds It looks like a harddrive
Love it, brand new again
Thank You so much!!
Our pleasure🧡⚙️
Nice to see the channel grow.
It is for us also!🧡⚙️
Enjoyed this video since I have the top version of the same bike.
I have the 2021 Giant Contend SL1 with Shimano 105, bought new in June 2022. I had to have the rear wheel replaced after discovering cracking around the spoke holes and a couple of broken spokes. Same thing happened with my 2021 Giant Fastroad SL3 2021 - rear wheel failed exactly the same way, the year before. The replacement have been fine. Every so often, I clean the bike, as much a possible. Chain is cleaned and lubricated, especially if really dirty. Your video shows how important to clean and maintain the bike, plus getting it serviced.
Awesome! Enjoy your bike 🧡
@@Bikespeeds Update. The bike has now done over 15,000 miles. I the cassette and chain have been replaced. I am on a third rear wheel, though wheel two needs a freewheel service. And today I found play with the bottom bracket on the non-drive side. I am looking to get a Shimano replacement and notice the spec is 41mm diameter and 86.5mm. I am thinking of doing the work myself.
I love how pros make this look so easy. Well done guys
Thanks! We appreciate it🧡
Great Vid from Simon and love the attention to detail to the service .
Thanks very much!🧡⚙️
Stunning work.
Thank you Chris 🧡
Another amazing job 👍
Thank you!🧡⚙️
This Channel is saving so many bikes from scraping and costing bike/parts manufacturers so much lost income 😂
lol!🧡😂
that watch tho!
Keeping you in work 👍but it's surprising how many people can't don't even do basic maintenance 🤔 another top job 🚴
I drive a Tomasso Sentiero. It has a Claris groupset and I upgraded the wheelset to a Mavic wheel with Sram hubs and threw on a set of Schwalbe Marathon tires. I ride through a mix of street and gravel trail. It gets real dusty from the gravel trails so after every ride I make sure to give it a wash and lube the chain.
Nice setup.
Awesome!🧡
Fancy timepiece on your wrist🤩 Looks like a little record player. Great service on the Giant btw👍🏻
This one is actually a hard drive⚙️
Excellent quality video,, I love watching your videos,, a great inspiration to me and other viewers,, as I buy n sell cheap bikes,, keep up the good work 👍👍👍👍
Awesome! Thanks Robert🧡
Another bike brought back to life. Well done.
Great channel. Excellent content.
Thanks as always Leslie 🧡⚙️
20k up guys well done and great to see a bottom bracket done correctly too many vids on CZcams using a blunt instrument and hammer then they wonder why they creak ?🤦♂️
We cringe anytime we see one hammered. Thanks for the support there Paul🧡⚙️
Nice work 😊👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you🧡⚙️💪🏼
Thank you for another Bikespeeds video. I don't know if I am one of your early subscribers but I subscribed the moment you popped up in my feed. I have a number of bikes that I have collected over the years. The one I am riding the most is my Colnago Super with 7sp Campy Record and Mavic tubular wheels. Most of my bike are a bit on the old side.
That’s a tasteful setup. Thanks for the constant support🧡
Great video’s guys, enjoyable and very condensed with information and methods on bikes. I like it!
Thanks very much🧡
Another brilliant vid. Riding roads down on the south coast and new forest. Can relate to the importance of getting sand out of everything, detrimental to all bikes and a great excuse to keep everything clean 🙏
Awesome! Enjoy all your riding and time tinkering🧡⚙️
Love the uploads. Keel them coming
Thanks John!🧡⚙️

Thank you!!🧡⚙️🎉
So satisfying to watch your videos! Thanks for putting all that time into making this great content.
Thank you very much, we always appreciate a comment like this🧡
Man these videos make me so happy! I ride in the midwest US and rain is a common occurrence. I tend to neglect my bike but now I’m starting to see how important it is even to rinse it off!
A wipe off is key in the wet weather. Thanks for watching!🧡⚙️
Such a beautiful job done!🚲
Thanks Niko!🧡⚙️
Congrats on 20K
much deserved
LOVE the before and after on this one...... the winter in NE Ohio does massive damage... the salt the sand grit ect..... reaking havoc on my gear sets
Very similar to the sea air by the sounds of it. There’s not much you can do either!🧡⚙️
First class. Enjoyed watching this.
Thank you Daniel!🧡
gratz on 20k you deserve it . put in the hard yards so we can learn .very appreciated.
Thanks very much🧡⚙️

It's starting to warm up a bit down here in Pembrokeshire so I need to start riding again, inspired just from watching your videos.
Spring has sprung!🧡
Love these videos. I'm currently giving my summer bike a strip down and rebuild; inspired by what I see on here!
Great! Glad you could take something away from the videos 🧡
Great job as usual
Thank you as always!🧡⚙️

Great service as always guys 👍
Cheers Brian! Thank you very much🧡
great vid as usual, congrats on 20k, love those weird timepieces, cheers!

Thanks gentlemen. Another great video. I have Shimano Tiagra on my road bike, 2017 Trek Domane. It’s a great group set. Really love these weekly sessions. A great way to spend a few minutes on a cold Wednesday evening in North Dakota USA. Take care. Congratulations on 20K subscribers.
We’re often impressed by the lower end components they’re far more reliable and just work in a way a lot of the top end doesn’t. Thanks for coming back each week, we will see you soon again I’m sure 🧡⚙️
Congrats on 20k, love watching your videos
Thanks very much Ben🧡⚙️
Looks like new good job👍 always enjoy watching these videos
Thanks!🧡⚙️
Thanks for all your good work. I gave my road bike a service last week in true BikeSpeeds style. Thanks for the inspiration, and all the helpful instructions!
Our pleasure, enjoy all your time tinkering🧡
Amazing growth on the channel! Well done guys, you deserve it! Been watching since 900 subs :) Cheers from South Africa 🏁
Wow that’s awesome! Thanks for all the support since then and sticking with us 🧡⚙️
🎉20K subs 😎 Congrats on the milestone. Cracking service as always.
Many thanks Dean 🧡⚙️
Congratulations on the 20k subscribers! Enjoying watching your videos each week. Keep it up!
Many many thanks🧡
20k +. Great achievement. Congrats to both of you. Definite wow factor on the before and after shots. Agree those components look like new ones, especially the chain and the cassette. Keep up the good work guys 👍
This one was a transformation. Thanks Adam🧡⚙️🎉
I know it's wet where you live, but have you considered ever advising your customers away from using wet lubes (even the ones marked "Dry" are wet lubes) if small particles of sand are a common issue? Have a look at the body of work done by Zero Friction Cycling (the only independent tester of chains) which shows when it comes to cost and efficiency that even in wet conditions (unless they're super long and wet conditions) waxing your chain or wax drip lubes are always the better option (especially when there is dirt involved).
I instantly clicked on the video when I saw the contend! I have a Contend AR 1 (the less racy version of this bike), it has room for wider tires, threaded bottom bracket and 105. I absolutely love the bike. It was affordable, and does a great job for someone my level. Also since it's aluminium I'm not scared to ride it (I'd be a bit scare on a carbon bike to break it...).
I'll be upgrading it in the future, wheels, handlebars, maybe groupset (sram etap is looking rather nice).
Cool video!
Awesome! Enjoy your bike 🧡⚙️
Hi, do you have the tires 700x32c? Can someone tell if this is the only difference between AR and SL? I am not sure which one to buy. I am a beginner and i think the 32 would be more suitable for my easy ride then the 28 ... i guess :) Any suggestion?
@@robertpoljak Yes I have the 32c tires. They're fine, but a tad slow imo. Comfortable though! I'm looking into upgrading the wheels + tires for next season though. The stock wheels are a bit heavy. I'll keep them as gravel/winter wheels.
As for the differences, not much.
The SL is more "race" focused (if you can say that about an endurance bike) compared to the AR. I quickly compared the geo and the SL is slightly lower at the front (20mm).
I went for the AR solely for the option to run bigger tires. I live in Belgium so strade bianche gravel isn't a thing here but if I want to go a little bit off road I like to have the option to do so.
Imo you can't go wrong either way. I picked the AR for the geometry specifically because it is my first modern/proper road bike. I'm no tdf athlete and was pretty out of shape when I bought it. So I wanted to make sure that I had a relaxed bike that would fit me and not break my back.
If I was you, I would go ahead and try to decide if you want those bigger tires or not?
@@quintennn thats the answer i wanted :-) Tnx!! I guess I will go with the SL. I already have a mtb for gravel/offroad so the SL will be perfect. Also the option to put the 30c tires is also available. Do you also know whats the total weight of your bike?
@@robertpoljak I think the weight is somewhere around 9.5 (so on the heavier side). That's including pedals, bottle cages, garmin mount. I'm pretty sure you can save about 600grams through the wheels. They're 2.3-2.4kg for the pair. Add lighter tires to that could save you another 50-100 grams. Overall I'm very happy with the bike! Good value for money and more than enough for someone of my level
Great video. I want to upgrade from Claris to Tiagra and this video has me surfing eBay. Keep up the great work!
Components are the thing to spend the money on. You can take a frame a really long way with great components 🧡
Very good work🎉
Ghana very much for all your support!🧡
Nice job as always.
May I ask what is the BB tool you used to remove the bearings?
👍
🍻
Would you guys ever do a bike rebuild/restoration livestream? I think that would be cool.
Wow yea a livestream would be epic.
These videos take hours it’s not as easy as just setting up the camera and recording, when a puncture comes in to be fixed we have to stop recording for that 15 minutes. When customers come in to drop off or collect their bikes they’re all also hold ups so a livestream may happen but currently isn’t on the cards 🧡
@@Bikespeeds Ah gotcha , thanks for the reply
Wow, literally like a new bike come the end! Really satisfying to watch.
What brand are the blue brushes you use, specifically the smaller detail brush and big softie?
These are both by Oxford and will both again soon be featured on our coming website for purchase🧡
Road bike? Nooooo! It's good used gravel bike😁
Yes you’re right🤦🏻♂️😂
Amazing as always! I noticed you didn’t put any copper slip on the back of the break pads this time. Any reason for that? Cheers!
Yes! These were plastic brake pads which don’t corrode so no need for the grease 🧡
Great videos! I see you change your tubes/tires on the floor. Park tool makes a wheel holder that I always use on any tube replacements. I see you use Park tools have you ever tried the wheel holder? After you are finished tuning up the bike do you go for a test ride? Keep up the great videos!
We took a look at the park tools wheel holder, and we do not ride the bikes we service. Thanks very much for watching!🧡⚙️
Do you embed the brake pads after cleaning the disks or do you have the customer do it? Thank you for all the vids, I watch all of them!
Wow! That was a spectacular transformation. It goes to show that if service is done at the right time you can prolong the life of your components, keep the bike in a good health and make it look basically like new! Another great video! Btw. what app are you using for keeping track of spoke tension while truing wheels? How do you get these nice tension graphs?
Thanks Seventh! We appreciate all the support that is actually a trade software we use🧡
Nice video. What BB extractor did you use?
Class job 👏👏 what weight is that bike?
Love your videos. Could I ask you what make the tool is you use to remove the press fit BB? Thanks!
Great video as always. What's the standard NM to torque up to for the various components? Is there a standard rule, or where do you find the NM for old bikes if it's not displayed?
There is no standard rule. Every single bike is different. We have a general picture of what specific brands and parts need what torque but couldn’t give you much advice sorry. Thanks very much for watching 🧡⚙️
@@Bikespeeds what is the ‘general picture’ for various components and brands. Is there a website I can refer to?
Prime contenders for waxed chains around you if it's really sandy
Definitely it’s the way to go🧡⚙️
Great vid. Must ask is that one of the Hard Drive watches?
It is indeed 🧡
Hey mate! What is the software that you use for the spoke tension?
Thanks and cheers from France!
Always a pleasure to watch your videos 🙂. Dry, dusty and sandy terrain made me research dry lubricants and convert my mtb into a waxed drivetrain. Not sure how to deal with on the seaside where rust is always lurking.
Eager to help you out once you open the store, cheers!
Yes waxed we believe is the way to go. It is higher maintenance and higher cost but if you want to keep a nice bike nice it’s the way forward for sure 🧡
Excellent video.
How often do you recommend a maintenance-service on a Trek Domane AL 3? I got mixed advices here in Canada.
The answer is "it depends". Weather, use case and bike type determine that.
In dry weather in spain I could get away with 2000Km between maintenance, in Scotland in winter it is constant maintenance. So you LBS will know.
Definitely it depends. It really does depend on milage, weather, group-set. We can only recommend having all your problems fixed as they arrive and never letting them build up🧡
@@Bikespeeds thanks
What brand of brake and shift cable do you prefer to use?
Hi there, what bottom bracket removal tool were you using? Looks great
We’ve had this for many many years so unfortunately couldn’t tell you or find out🧡
