- Hello everybody!🖐 The Restorer is with you again.🔥😎
I want to share with you a new video of the restoration of a very beautiful and rare gasoline lighter, probably from World War II. I don't have much information on this antique lighter, but it is said to be a US Army award lighter. US soldiers and officers were awarded medals and orders for their exploits and this lighter was added as a memento. Presumably a limited batch made to order by jewelers. This lighter is very unique and miniature. I have never seen such a small and delicate lighter. The lighter is made of brass, steel, and a black material unknown to me (a round black insert) that looks like plastic. This antique lighter came to me in very bad condition. I decided to restore it and give it a new life. I hope you will like the result of the restoration👍😉. If you know more information about this rare find, then write in the comments. I will be very interested to know more information.

Good video but stop panning and zooming the camera. The visual content is interesting enough that moving the camera too much is just distracting and annoying
What year was that lighter made?

I am an ex U.S. Army Sergeant, 14.5 yrs, and I am grateful for the dedication, care, and time, you gave to this piece. You're a very talented, fella. I would love to have the time and funds, to find and save, the antiques, true pieces of history, that you do. 3 young children keep me busy :)
I hope you, and those you love, have a wonderful 2023!
ps. I just subscribed, because you're talented and your editing makes for a great, relaxing, after a long day, experience!
Hello! Thank you very much! I am glad that you liked my work and video. Have a good day!)

I am very curious as to why you didn’t soak the lighter in a rust remover solution first. Oiling it and then prying pieces off the lighter could have resulted in total breakage. It’s also amazing that the lighter was rusted since it was made of brass and or copper. Maybe there was a contamination of iron mixed in with the brass if that is possible. In the end. It came out wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
It's possible it was in a case that rusted around it.
You caught exactly what I caught. The metals that the lighter is made of do not rust. And there is also not one bit of pitting from the corrosion. I have a feeling that it is fake rust made for entertainment. Can’t trust anything you see nowadays.
@@mikedickinson9730 I actually just saw a CZcams video a couple of days ago where they talked about most of the restoration videos being fake. They paint a fake rust product over the metal to make it look really bad. Have you ever watched the restoration videos from Hand Tool Rescue? That guys work is phenomenal. I have an antique deli slicer that he wanted me to send to him but it weighed a ton and I would have had to make a wooden shipping box to send it in. I have a bad back so I couldn’t handle it, it’s still sitting in my garage. I really think you will like the guy.
@@Naplesfrank154 That sounds like it would be a mission. Lol. I’ll have to check him out for sure. I’m sitting here googling how on earth this lighter would rust to prove myself wrong and I just can’t find anything aside from faux rust. Anything for views.
yeah, lets soak a brass lighter which is non ferrous ,in rust solution ,strange brass does,nt rust .and its does not contain iron .
That's a cool lighter you did a great job bringing it back to life.

Admirável dedicação de restaurar, a certeza da recuperação da peça é implacável, chega quase a certeza de um leigo que o fato não Ocorrerá.
Mas um restaurador vocacionado não se dá por vencido. 👏 👏 👏
Incrível!
Another most thorough and extracting job of returning the everlasting beauty that remains with this fine antiquity from the past.
Thank you very much! I'm glad you liked my video!)
beautiful restoration
good job
Thank you!)
Nice job. I think the black plastic is Bakelit. There is just one thing i can not get out of my mind. The whole lighter is made out of brass and bakelite. How is it actually possible that brass and bakelit can rust? It is a wired thing!
Thank you!💚😉👍
Fake rust
Looks like something corroded over and on to it
I agree bakelite. I have a nice set of Cutco knives and utensils over 60 years old with bakelite handles and they look as good as when my father used to sell them all that time ago.
I was thinking Bakelite as well I know they stopped making during WW2 so it makes sense that’s what it is … but I’m not sure I’ve seen black before in it, usually it’s always RGB color scheme
Extraordinario, excelente!!!
😉💚👍
Looks great, well done.👍
Thank you!)
Nice brass and bakelite rust🤣🤣🤣
Incredibly lucky the internal parts, like the spring, where made from stainless steel, don't ya' think???

Wunderschön geworden .
Danke sehr!)
This is a WWI Trench Art Lighter. They typically have a coin as a centerpiece which would help determine where it came from exactly. I'm not very educated on this subject, so I could be wrong, but it's strange that the center is just unlabeled plastic seeing as all the others I've seen are made of various coins from the soldiers' belongings. The outcome is stunning either way!
Actually, after reading some more comments, I suppose that's not plastic! Interesting! Truly a masterpiece
Great job! However, I do have a question: why did you add baking soda to the acid early on? Won’t that just neutralise, and as such weaken the acid?
Thank you! It was necessary to make a less concentrated acid.
ficou maravilhoso
😉👍
Brass and plastic don't rust, so explain the major rust issue
Idiot which rust issue u r talking about?🙄
Gorgeous job!

Great work as always! I was thinking that the black circles could be made out of jet or onyx.

thats whati was thinking or maybe cats eye

Excellent job on bringing the lighter back to life...My best guess on the insert materiel would be Bakelite.
Concur. Bakelite.
Thanks for the info. Is Bakelite precious?
Is Bakelite an artificial material?
@@TheRestorer bakelite is not precious. It is a plastic
Bakelite is the first form of plastic. Celluloid I believe. Not the plastic of now. That is 1920s give or take a decade. At that time it was modern. New material and fancy.
Great work 👍

Thank you very match!😉👍💚
brown iron rust....on a BRASS lighter? the corrosion should be green, white or black (brass is copper tin and zinc)
The rust came from the old rusty metal parts that were near the lighter
That some in the middle looks like black Onix. 10/10
Thanks!😊

My father had a similar lighter in the European Operations Theater in WWII. It had the battalion insignia on one side and US Army EOT on the other.
It's very cool!👍😮🕵️🇺🇲 Do you still have your father's lighter? Is there a photo?
@@TheRestorer My older brother has the lighter now. Dad received it at Fort Leanardwood, MO after the Aleutian Islands were secured. It was a presentation lighter. One side had the insignia of the 151st Engineering Battalion and the other, US Army, PTO (Pacific Theater of Operations). 151st was decommissioned and the unmarried soldiers were transferred to Patton's 3rd Army, 47th Calvary.

10 plus. Was the plastic Bakelite? I have a coffeemaker from the 1930s with burgundy Bakelite handles. Thick and sturdy. Plastic won the competition. 18:05

I do not know
🤨 - how did you find it? Did it have rust on it, or did you pre-rust it 😠
WWI Era. Absolutely beautiful detail. But in actual reality this lighter would be very dull and caked in grime in some Doughboy soldier's pocket.
Thanks for the information) Have a nice day!

I actually love that you have gloves on I kinda hate people who do these restorations with
Out their gloves on and their hands just look nasty asf ! So thanx
Every time I see one of these lighters "restored" and I see nice bright shiny threads , I know to move on.
🤔👍😉
Explain what that had to do with this video?
@@IAmTheSkinThief Something so covered in "rust" and "corrosion" and the threads come apart nice and easy with no corrosive ingress. Simply not possible. I've worked on many genuine restoration projects , including WW2 plane engines dug out of fields. I know what I'm looking at and talking about.
These videos are fakes. Entertaining , but fakes.
Отличное восстановление, но нужно было резиновые прокладки поставить под винты чтобы бензин не выветривался.
Thank you very much👍😉
bravo 10 cool

I suppose the black round insert is made of bakelite, an early form of artificial material of which the early telephones in Europe were made of - don't know, if this was the case in USA. Greetings from Germany from the silver fox, David 😉🦊
My greetings to Germany!)
Yes, I also think it's Bakelite

I think the black part is jet. Popular in the late 1800s

I didn’t know brass could rust?
brass itself does not rust. rust spilled over from other rusted objects
Вау, працює 🧯🔥🕯️
👍👍👍👍👍
😉👍💚
The black "plastic" looking piece could be "French Jett". Look it up.
I think that is Baquelite 😊
Yes you are right
And one more thing u wantedly keep this items on rust and mud area
Yes
I would say the centre panel is possibly Bakalite
Yes
kupfer rostet nicht. salze sind farbig . also fake?
strange i,ve never seen brass rust before .as its non ferrous ,you could leave it in a bucket of rusty water and it would,nt rust .
The lighter was found among old rusty things. That's why she became like that over time (
Brass does not rust, it is covered with corrosion and oxidizes
What would cause a brass and Bakelite object to corrode like that? I can’t imagine how it got into that condition. Nothing on that lighter would rust, it would only tarnish. And why would you neutralize the acid in the vinegar by adding baking soda to it?
The lighter was found among old rusty things. They caused rust to fall over (
@@TheRestorer rust will only transfer to other ferrous objects .it would not thrive on a non ferrous object .
👏👏👏👏👏👏
