Dry and thorough information is just the way I like it. Everything is still accurate as of June 2023 in Chapala. If you have an address change, it must be done prior to residency extension. Once system is updated overnight to show your new address, you can go back with correct form for extension. Also, don't forget your passport. Took me 3 trips to complete, but it was worth the experience.

Hey Paul - super helpful as always. Just a couple notes here based on our experience with this today. It wasn't clear from the video that the "letter" requirement is actually required no matter what, so if you don't have one of the specific special circumstances you still need to print the 3rd letter template to verify that your circumstance for residency is the same. The video makes it sound like you only need this if it's a "special" circumstance. As with everything - this could be inconsistent, but this was the Puerto Vallarta INM. Additionally, could be helpful to be a little more specific on the info requested for this letter. We entered our passport numbers for the number it requested but it should've been our residency numbers. In retrospect this seems obvious, but that info was glanced over in the video and could be helpful for someone else in the future to go through. Fortunately the office just let us cross it out and put the right number in pen. Thanks amigo!

I just renewed my temporary residency a couple of weeks ago. Even though I speak decent Spanish, and the INM officers here are fluent in English, and I actually know one of the officers, the money I spent (about $60) to have a facilitator was absolutely money well spent.

Thanks Paul, renewing my residency was a piece of cake thanks to your video. I arrived in León just before the office opened. Had all the items you described except one, a form letter where I indicated I wanted three years, and a fill-in field where I had to swear that all my income would be from the USA. Even paid with my credit card!
Unfortunately I had to come back a second time to get my photos and fingerprints taken, but that visit took only two hours. I left with my shiny new card, they are brown now.

Hi Doug. I'm at the point of having paid and received the NUT, received the follow-up email and updated the basic information there. That was a week ago and nothing else has happened. How long after you paid and received email did they update your case? Was it before your current residency expired? Ours expires on the 2nd of May and so I'm wondering what happens if they take too long to get back to you.

Thank-you Paul for this very helpful tutorial! I went to the Morelia INM office this afternoon to renew my Temporary Residence Visa for an additional 3-years; no appointment was required and there was absolutely no wait, what a pleasant surprise. I discovered if you have changed your address, as I have, you will be required to complete a "change of residence" on the same site as Paul's link before your Visa can be renewed. There was no charge for the change of address and it was immediately available to print off and bring to the INM office upon website completion.

Good video - I did this recently - and it is totally something you can do yourself.
However - important to keep up to date, because the details change a little each time.
If you need to update your address, you can do it at the same time - but you still have to fill out a separate 'tramite'
    for that operation.
And regarding payment - payment with card at INM is much easier - if you go to a bank you have to make sure you paid for the correct procedure. There are several procedures in the drop down list that look identical, and though the fee is identical, the money goes into a wrong account - you will have to do it again if that happens - don't ask how I know this.

After watching your video (excellent by the way) and other similar videos, I've decided to take your advice and pay someone to do all the heaving lifting. In fact I had already contacted an office in San Miguel de Allende, but I started second guessing the cost. It seemed pricey and the process for doing it myself seemed easy enough. BUT the INNMs appointment scheduler website is down and I've seen how people have to wait in line all day and night to get in the doors. So I decided to say screw it and just pay someone. I honestly hate lines and waiting. And they already have an appointment made for me so I just need to show up and pay.

not sure if you ever got an answer to this, but based on my experience today when renewing residency using a passport that was renewed since I initially got temp residency, this presented no issue and at no point did they suggest that we should have changed this information on file. The only thing we weren't able to do was use our CURP to auto-fill the information for renewal because it was putting in our old passport number and wouldn't let us update it, so had to fill out the forms manually again

Due to my Wife's business we can't be in Mexico for more than a few weeks at this time. We really need to get an appointment for renewal and address change before our cards expire. Do you have any contacts in Guadalajara that can get us an appointment and help with a few forms. We thank you for all your great videos and your spanish videos. Thanks much

I was first in line and there were a total 10 people behind me when they opened at 9:00am. I was in and out in less than an hour with my renewed card and by 10:30 I was eating my first of three fish tacos con todo for brunch!

Do not go and pay at a bank with the form. The bank or INM do not refund if it's wrong. I got my TR card in March 2023 in Playa Del Carmen. I had created the payment form and it let me choose 4 years. I went to Banamex and paid $11488 pessos. INM did not give me 4 years- one only. They take payment with a card right in their office so I had to pay again 5k+ with my BofA debit card., They gave me a letter that I had paid the 11k in error. Then I had to go through a complicated process with SAT(tax office) to get a tax ID number, appointment, fingerprints, eye scan, utility bill for address verification, USB stick with my digital password., Then I had to open a bank account with Santander. Then fill out complicated refund forms online on my laptop outside the SAT office so I can ask questions or I couldn't have completed it. Pay in the INM office with your VISA card! I am going back next week to renew so I hope the online renewal printed out and the filled out Formato is all I need.

Under "Requirements" there are three links for "Renewal letter". You want to click the third one, "Renewal letter proving that the conditions subsist." The link opens a window where you fill out your name, nationality, NUE, address, etc., and then click the button labeled GENERAR. This generates the letter and displays it in a window where you can download a copy and print the letter. Take that letter with you to the INM office. I'm not sure if you have to sign it in front of the INM agent, or if you can sign it in advance, but it requires your signature and the current date.

The director at the particular INM office can really throw a wrench into the works as well. I have to renew my one year temporary coming up, but due to a medical procedure I have to have, I can't stick around to wait for the card which could take weeks to come back. I unfortunately had to do the same thing last year for work and leave, but they let me sign a form and pay a penalty as long as I came back within 60 days to finish the process and get my card. This year the director at my local INM office isn't granting those exceptions, told the person I am having help me with it that if the person can't stay long enough to wait for the card to come back, that they can just start the whole process all over again back in the United States at the consulate office whenever I would not anticipate any disruptions. That would mean several years wasted down the drain to start from square one not to mention the expense and difficulty it took to even get a consulate appointment in the U.S. I'm not happy about this and not sure what to do.

    • @qroo

Sorry to hear that. They do like to make things unnecessarily arduous. The options here are to go to another INM office or to seek the assistance of a "facilitator". They are often more successful at getting things done at INM since they have existing relationships there -- and no, I'm not talking about a bribe.
One of my friends was unsuccessful at getting a permit to leave while his card was processed but the facilitator got one for him at the same INM office without an issue.

Thanks for the video Paul. Last year, we followed your recommendation and hired Adriana to help us secure our Temporary Resident cards. She's the best! We're traveling back to Mexico to renew our cards for the first time and chose the 3 year renewal option. I've been reading mixed things about some changes in the process since we got our cards last January. When we got our cards the first time, we got them instantly on the same day as our appointment. Now I'm hearing it can take up to 3 weeks to get your cards, and they're no longer issuing the cards on the same day. If that's true.. we're going to have to make 2 trips to Mexico to renew our cards (not that that's a bad thing..) Do you know if this rumor is true?
