Great video. We've been living in Mexico for a year now and I had a good laugh at your jokes about the bureaucracy here. We got frustrated at first, but then we got hard. We got to that point where we wouldn't let anything get in the way of our goals. Need to wait in line at the SAT office for 3 hours in the hot sun for seemingly no reason? No problem, we brought hats and sunscreen and we'll come back again tomorrow if need be. And we always come prepared - we bring a folder with every piece of paper we've ever received in our lives. Oh, and we actually did move here with a printer and a mobile scanner! The Canon Wireless TR150 and an Epson mobile scanner...we can't live without them. 😂
Wow, that is hard core!!
Real deal traveler mentality right here ✌️✊
The benches at Migracion in Querètaro would be considered cruel and unusual punishment in an American prison.
You're always my go-to for this type of information - thank you SO much!
Thanks Paul for the update I’m in Cancun to finish my temporary in a couple weeks and will be meeting with Adriana.
I’ve got to say, your delivery is super smooth… You get right into the content, and it’s great information that really makes a difference. Simply a great channel.
Perfect timing, again. It's like you read my mind.
Thanks for being so open.
I checked out the link you suggested and was happy to find many of the answers to my various questions on her blog. Thanks for recommending it!
Glad it was helpful!
The rules are always changing, thank goodness you are on your toes and inform us right away! You are the guru of all legal things related to visiting and moving to Mexico, thank you.
Thanks, Cindy. As you wrote, the rules are always changing. I am fortunate that I have a large group of expats and Mexican professionals keeping me in the loop.
I had a great time in early August getting my temporal visa. The workers at the Nuevo Vallarta INM office thought I had lost my FMM and I told them I hadn't. I guess they then called the INM HQ and came back to me that the process is being digitized. I was the guinea pig as they made me go to a web site on my phone to fill out all the information. Six hours later I got my temporal visa. Had to watch a lot of other people get there's before but main thing is that I got it. :)
Thank you for always providing amazing content!!!!
Very helpful and insightful. Thank you
Paul, thank you, yet another very valuable video!
Thanks Mr Roo, as always good information without the bull.
Thanks Paul, always good info! ☮❤😎
This is an awesome update.
Qroo Paul & Linda is hands down the best Move to Mexico educational channel around. Professional, smart, pleasant, and yes... even entertaining where possible :-). Preparing to move to Mazatlan next September 2023. I am grateful for the comprehensive and in depth study of the important topics that Paul covers. Question: Is it known yet what the new time lapse will become to re-enter MX after a 6-month tourist visa expires? I understand the 1-day revolving door of the perpetual tourist is being closed. Wondering what the length of the new time period has now become to return to MX after the initial 6-month tourist visa expires? Thanks in advance!
Great vid! Now to get that scanner and printer for our trip in Sept!
Good advice, thanks
Thanks for the upbeat attitude on frustrating content. It doesn't help to get angry just shrug and say "orale"
Exactly! It actually took me years to adopt this laid-back approach to the whole thing, but the good news is that this strategy is working very well for me....lol.
Very good information , thank very much!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you Sr Paul
For helping our new immigrants
Thanks sharing great information
Thank you Paul!
Another great and timely video. What else can I say🙏😎👍
Beautifully done ! ❤ and 🙏
Thank you so much!

Is exactly what I expect from mex.... and YES this frustrates me to no end even when it happens here in canada. So I will need to chill and 'let go' once I go there.
Thank you for your videos.
Great video. I recommend Tere Sanchez for Puerto Vallarta. Puerto Vallarta Airport is also part of this program, so no FMM in Puerto Vallarta Airport.
Masterfully done!
A credit to the USA educational system.
Thanks, Bria. :)

Great video, Paul! I love your aloha shirts! They look a bit like Reyn Spooner shirts.
Thanks Gretchen. :)
Thank you, as repeat 180 tourists, it will be nice to have one less step to our "reset the visit" trips out of the country. Loving life on Cozumel!
Great video!!!
Thank you!!
Great video
Thanks!
Nice video!
Thanks!
Super useful !!!
Thanks. :)
Hi Paul, I came into La Paz about 2-1/2 weeks ago with a friend. I have/had a permanent residency visa in my passport and my friend came in as a tourist. We were given FMM's on the airplane (I questioned the flight attendant but she didn't know any different). We dutifully filled them out even though we knew/thought we wouldn't need them. Sure enough, in line, someone came around and took them away from us. When I went through the line, there was quite a conversation between the agent and his supervisor on what needed to be done. Ultimately my residency visa was stamped, Canje was written on it along with the date at which the visa was no longer valid (30 days out). The agent said I wouldn't need a paper FMM, just show INM my visa and how it was stamped. Happy camper I was and went on my way. My friend had his passport stamped and it did not show how many days he was given, but rather again, they wrote in the date at which point the tourist "visa" was no longer valid. It did happen to be about 180 days out. All is well. I went to INM to start the process of getting my card and the nice lady who spoke great English said I needed a paper FMM LOL. At that point, I hired a local company (Baja Paperworks in La Paz) to help me get through it. I am getting fingerprinted tomorrow and should have my card in about 10 days (-:
Thanks for sharing that. I'm glad that it all worked out. :)
BTW I used Adriana Vela, on your recommendation, to get my Residente Permenente and she was AMAZING! HIGHLY recommend her!
I'm so glad to hear that. :)
I contacted Ms. Vela for a quote. After a week, I have not received a response. Seeetieinsf, how much were you charged? Thanks
Thanks sir
Hi Paul…thanks so much again for your continued support. We will be entering Guadalajara in November with a Canje. We heard that is one of the airports that will not require an FMM. Does that mean we have to go to the immigration office when we land and get an FMM or somehow print one? I am confused!!! Thanks so much for shedding any light on this new subject. We are familiar with Mexican bureaucracy and how quickly it can change. Just wanting to be one step ahead. Your channel is GREAT!
It will be electronic, however when you trouble to Cancun from CBX San Diego connecting bridge to Tijuana Airport they give you a paper form still and 180 days
When you arrive your first point is the Immigration desk, show your passport open to the page with your Visa. The desk/office spoken about is where you go when leaving.
Consistently inconsistent, so very true - Anne
Mission accomplished 😁
yes i did did paperless procedure last week and yesterday as i came back to usa,so the paper they emitted at the entry io finally give it to the airline desk who seem to propcess it for us, but i have no paper back in exchange..
Awesome video as usual- thank you so much! For those entering as CANJE, you mentioned needing to register an account for each person and a QR code, in order to print out the FMM. Is there a link or site you may have to begin the account open process? Or is this only done at the airport after you receive your CANJE30 stamp - Using the QR code on the sign to get to the site location to register? (Whew) Thanks again Paul!!
Is there a QR code link or is it done at the airport to fill out the FMM?
Good afternoon Paul! I'm a Permanent Resident and just did a Round Trip Puerto Vallarta - Los Angeles this week. They had the Trial Program in place here in PV and the process was as you explained except when I went to the INM booth to leave to the US, they didn't stamp my passport or take any of my lnfo. They just told me to board the plane and have a nice trip. Obviously each place may be a little different.
Thanks for the info. Consistently inconsistent....lol.
I am in the same area and several friends in the last month had the same experience also no vaccine proof on arrival or masks on the plane , it could change instantly as we know but everyone was wow the best trip ever. Lol
This happened to me in PV as well last week.
Thanks so much for the info! Do you know where one might find a list of airports involved in the pilot program? I'm curious about the Queretaro airport. Thanks again!
Question " Do you know where one might find a list of airports involved in the pilot program" ............. Don't be silly !!!!! :o)
At CDMX airport the INM booth is inside security, after you've finished with the ticket counter, so, I guess just check in there as usual
Interesting! INM is working on implementing the digital new way in all mexico.
And we have found out during December that you need a printed copy of an FMM to renew a TIP on your foreign plated vehicle you left in QR for the summer.
The Belize border can't process you if you don't have a copy
We flew out of La Paz on August 17, 2022 to Phoenix, AZ. There is no INM desk in the public area of the La Paz airport. I went looking for the INM office down some back hallways and found an INM agent who told me that you no longer have to do anything when leaving Mexico as a resident from La Paz. He said the airlines will collect any needed information when you check in for the flight. Later when we checked in at the American counter we were asked for our resident cards and told everything was good to go with no questions, no paperwork, and no passport stamp. Hopefully we won't encounter any issues when we fly back to La Paz next week.
Thanks for sharing that info. :)
I'd be happy with 90 days why because Mexico is a big place and lots to see
Great Video Paul! Do you know what happens if you fly into Cancun and out of Merida?
I entered mecico in Puerto Vallarta and exited in Queretaro. I was stopped and my passport taken as I waited for my flight out. I explained to them it was a pilot program and I was not given the form back. After a period of worry I was finally given my passport back.
We encountered this last week. We flew from the US into Cancun on Saturday, August 20, and when we were a half-hour or so out from the Cancun airport, the flight attendant announced that the flight had no immigration forms for us to pre-fill out (as we typically have on previous trips to Mexico), and that we would have to fill them out in the airport itself. Then a few minutes later, she came on the PA again and announced that there would be no forms, even at the airport. And she was correct - when we got off the plane and approached the customs kiosks, they looked at our passports and asked us how long we'd be staying. I said "eight days", as we would be there from Saturday to Saturday. He stamped my passport, made a small hand-written notation on the stamp, and handed it back to me. I later looked at the hand-written note, and he had written "180" in it for whatever reason. Unfortunately, even though my wife and I both had the 180-day note in our passports we still left on the 8th day...
Thanks for taking the time to share your experience.
@@qroo Thanks for what you do. Your channel is one that has helped me find a lot of great info on what will probably be my home after retirement.
I didn't fill out that form. I had fallen asleep. In the immigration line at CDMX, I asked an officer for the form. "We no longer do that." I did not get bothered on the return flight home.
I came to Chiapas to on Saturday flying through Mexico City we still had to fill out the form they gave us 180 days.
Congrats on getting 180 days.
Just as a point of data, I flew into Mérida a couple days ago and the FMM is still being used. I told them I am here for 5 days and they put "180" on my form. I like to fill it out, submit it online, and print it ahead of time to have one less thing to do on the travel day and get through immigration a little quicker (even a little time saved is worth it to me!).
Thanks for the info.
Anthea great vidieo
Thanks!
Qroo Paul do you have a link to the fmn page so I can print it out just incase I need it better to be prepared coming in to complete my residency
I flew into Puerto Vallarta on the 2nd of August, they had us fill out the forms before we landed. Once we arrived in Mexico they informed us we didn't need the form anymore, stamped our passports and sent us on our way, upon leaving they checked our passports and we left.
I recently learned that only those who arrive by air are getting their passports stamped. No publicity on that, but a gal I know who travels to Texas frequently said so. She once asked the agent why + he replied that it's only for air travel. Boy, what a mess! When I did the CBX walk from Tijuana + back last summer they gave me 180 days, but NO STAMP ON PASSPORT!
Hello QROO Paul and Linda. I love your videos and saw the one about the FMM going away in certain areas. So now they write the number of days your aloud where they stamp your passport. My question is… does that mean you have to carry your passport with you at all times if your not staying at an all inclusive place? Thank you for your time and all your informative videos 😊
Just keep pics on your phone of the photo page of the passport and stamp. If you go through a kiosk self-check entry, you wo t even get a stamp.
For those of you in the SMA area looking for a facillitator i just got my permanent resident visa with the help of Sonia Diaz who did an excellent job. Gracias for keeping us updated on all the new rules Pablo!
Sonia also helped us, and she has a good website. It was *still a confusing process, without her help it would have been a nightmare.
I lost mine twice and it was not fun. The second time I almost missed my flight, needless to say I learned a valuable lesson.😉
As far as I know, residents do not need to report to INM if departing and entering over the land border, at least in Baja. I am inquiring with the INM in Ensenada to confirm. Will find out tomorrow.
I enjoy your channel. I've also seen the rules "come and go" in Baja for decades. This might make you feel better. Recently moved to Thailand. To get a retirement (12 month) visa will cost about $700 in fees. I could pay an agent $1300 to "speed" things along. Head of the line, etc.. I've spent three trips and 10 hours at immigration so far. 2 more trips in the next 60 days should get the job done. They stamp your passport for 30 days at the airport. You return to immigration (pay $50) to get another 30 days. Takes about a month to apply for the 12 month retirement visa. They accept the documents (about 40 pages) and tell you to return in 2 weeks. They then give you 90 days and ask you to return in 60 days. Then you get the 12 months.
I also had to deposit $23,000 into a Thai bank. That basically has to stay there if you want to renew the visa in 12 months. Or you need to show 12 bank statements with "at least" $1800 wired over each month. I'll do both. Plus, you then need to "report in" every 90 days. Where you live, etc.. You can do that online, but the system overloads. Many people go to immigration for the 90 day report. Overstay your visa by even a day, and you'll have a real problem at the airport. Large fines. Skip a 90 day report, good luck getting another 12 month visa.
Once you get the 12 month visa, you start the process over 11 months later. Maybe $500 in fees each year (if you're lucky) I have Blue Cross Federal. Works anywhere in the world. The word is, I might need to purchase a Thai health insurance policy too. I'll never use it, but a rule is a rule.
Ignore the immigration policy for years. Show up at an airport and you'll be banned from re-entering Thailand for at least 10 years. If you have a family, own a condo, etc.. that's your problem. I'm not complaining. I'm a visitor living in Thailand, so I'll play by the rules. I just wish the rules were a little green $31 problem twice a year.
@Evral Tatum-Mcfield Ya Thailand is a great spot, but the immigration/visa part is tough. Most people just "hire" an agent. I might in the future, but I had to go through the process once. Decide if it's worth spending the cash or not. Leaning toward yes
Hi Paul. We are temporal residents and were not given an FMM when we drove out of Mexico last time. We even asked for one. Do you anticipate we will run into any issues when we fly back to Mexico, Guadalajara airport next time?
Another great video! Thank you. Can you consider doing one on "Menaje's"?
My wife and I are moving to Baja California Sur and found out that furniture is outrageously expensive. I recently learned that one can apply for a "Menaje" that allows you to ship your furniture (or drive it down yourself) from the USA and pay no duty tax.
I Would love to hear your take on this subject.
We moved to La Paz in Baja Sur and left our furniture for our son. We did not find furniture here to be any more expensive than I. Toronto, but harder to find good quality. A lot of us go,to Guadalajara ( furniture capital of Mexico) and buy what we like and have it shipped over... certainly cheaper than hiring a mover from Canada. It cost us $28,000.00 to move everything but our furniture... that’s why we ended up leaving it with our son. The three companies we got quotes from ( united, AMJ Campbell and Atlas wanted almost $50,000.00 to move everything
@@LicensedBajaRealtor Wow - that's a lot of $$ for furniture moving. And a big budget for a shopping spree in the Guadalajara furniture stores!
@@AlmostRetiredinMexico Brighton, the movers to.d us they could move us to Australia for way cheaper..
But Baja from Eastern Canada is a long way and could only be overland, not by shipping container
@@LicensedBajaRealtor what did you move a boat lol
Excellent videao Paul!!! Regarding birth certificate Apostille for MX conulate interview, it seems that there are 2 different ones: Certificate of Birth, and Certificate of LIVE Birth. Which one of the two should get Apostilled? Thanks in advance.
I'm a permanent resident of Mexico however I have been in the US for over 4 years, and I don't have any of the FMM visa paperwork I left with. I will have to explain the situation when I return to Mexico. If you are a permanent resident of Mexico, you can stay abroad as long as you like unlike a permanent resident of the USA.
Perfect timing Paul, I have to fly back to the states in 10 days and was wondering how the changes affect us Residentes. Any details on the process when returning to Cancun? Show the INM the stamp in my passport?
Just hand them the passport and the resident card upon arrival. :)
Definitely hire an immigration attorney to help with the final residency process. Most will take your documents, and do the hard part (waiting, coming back several times, etc.) for you. Easy Legal in Merida is 204 per person. To me that's a bargain to avoid going to the immigration office.
And they may know the 'right' person (like their cousins, etc) which you do not know.
@@boink800 Exactly. I've always found that using the right lawyer in any situation gives you an advantage you may not be aware of until they "fix" what you need "fixing".
We hope to move to Mexico in March, so we are planning to go to Atlanta in November for our temp residency visa. Hopefully that gives us plenty of time for part 2 in Mexico ?
Yes, plenty of time. Once you are granted residency, you will only have 180 days to get to Mexico to complete part two.
Thanks for the video. Ok, so if you’re coming into mexico to complete part 2!of the temp residency program you wont know , until you’re at the immigration desk at the airport, whether or not they’re using the new process ? Does that mean that all North American air departures would receive an FMM card to fill out in flight and that it may or may not be needed upon arrival in Mexico?
Thank you
on my paper it was a barcode, admnission thime, point and airline company nothng indicate the time allowed in the country..
I'm in the naturalization process as we speak, Huge pain the ass, I have to phisically go to DF several times because its the only place in the country doing the tramite currently, Studying for the history exam looks insanely hard too.
Good luck! We took a sample history/culture test once and we did not do well.
Very informative video! We flew into Puerto Vallarta a couple of weeks ago so no FMM. Passport was stamped with date of arrival and some kind of chicken scratch that looks more like a signature than amount of days allowed.Went to airport and immigration confirmed 180 days. we plan on bussing to Mazatlan but have heard horror stories about people not having their FMM on them and having to pay off law enforcement. Bus or flight not sure. Have you guys heard anything on this topic at all? Thanks
That was under the system when everyone had an FMM. Nowdays, you just need to show your passport and the entry stamp. It should have the number of days and the date on it.
Immigration official has his/her discretion to decide how many days you can stay in the country. San Jose Del Cabo is in the pilot program. Tourists are not required to use the FMM however, they are requiring residents to fill in the form (as of yesterday). Viva Mexico.. the only consistency is non consistency
Thanks for the update. Consistently inconsistent...lol. The reports from INM here in Quintana Roo is that the discretion aspect has been eliminated under the program. I suspected we would see something like that anyway because of all the complaints of corruption and abuse of power that have originated from that "discretion."
Hopefully they will have it all straightened out sooner rather than later. I fly into San Jose at the end of October:)
GREAT VIDEO, DO YOU NEED TO FILL OUT A FMM WHEN FLYING FROM CANADA TO MEXICO. bc TO pv ?
I will remember that statement every time I get frustrated with the US or Mexican government - mission accomplished!
Great video as always! Hi a little different question but i am applying for temp residency but i heard that if i travelled to MX between 2015 and 2020 and filled out FFM and am in the system ( me in Jan 19 and Sept 20) i could travel to MX on tourist visa then overstay it and apply for residency while there- only situation this can be done. Is this correct?? Also I’ll be driving with cats that’s my biggest challenge I’ve stopped at immigration for FFM before and stood in line so can’t leave my cats in a car. Was hoping this was good news if i had stamp. Thanks!
Just got into Guad this afternoon and was given 180 days on my P/P.
Thanks for sharing that info. Have fun!
Great information Paul. However my question is; where and when is Mexico collecting the fees for the stay of over the 7 day period? Are you saying you are still registering on line for travel into Mexico, but do not need to print the form?
I’m wondering if I need a FMM if I’m only staying 6 days
It is Mexico!! Inconsistent, unpredictable, unreasonable and complicated. I have always said that Mexico is a wonder_land because I wonder how it keeps going under such a chaos. Greetings from a Mexican.👋🏻
Well said!
@Berlina 18
It IS a wonder i n d e e d.
Every time my mexican husband tells me about things from mexico, I shake my head.
So just to clarify, the desk we normally (as a temp/perm. Resident) go to to drop our form off before we leave Mexico, is the same that we go to to get the stamp before we leave?
What about driving down? Do you have any videos on that?
Interesting, I am a Permanent Resident and flew from Guanajuato to Tijuana (so domestic flight), then walked into the USA using the CBX bridge. There was no one from Mexico Immigration to stamp your passport upon leaving. No FMM was required for me (Only tourists had to complete the form).
They did check my residency card and stamp my passport when I returned to Mexico into the Tijuana Airport through the CBX bridge a few weeks later.
Thanks for the info. Was planning to do the same in a month to do a little shopping in San Diego. Good day!
I wonder if it would’ve been a problem if you flew back to Mexico instead of taking the CBX? Last time I crossed into the US I didn’t have my RT & now I do so I was wondering how it was handled at CBX.
One of the best ways to enter and leave if you are going to California cheaper also ,we do it from Guadalajara
Thank you Paul. We are Temporary Residents and just left Mexico for a few months to visit family in the USA. We drive and so we cross by land. Were we supposed to do something at a border crossing? We did turn in our TIP.
Did you find out this answer?
I flew into Guadalajara last week. The Immigration Agent didn’t even want to see our dutifully completed FMM forms. He stamped our passports with a slightly different stamp and wrote on there “180” and the date when that 180 days was up.
When departing the airline agent did want to see that stamp.
Oh, I was a “Tourist”.
Thanks for sharing that info. The new program is supposed to be a default 180 days. There has been a lot of corruption and tons of complaints associated with the INM agents having "discretion" to arbitrarily determine the number of days someone can remain in the country.
Which airports or CBX are using the pilot program ? When do we pay the fee is staying more than 7 days?
As a PR, I left Mexico last time on foot in Tijuana and was not given any cards. Next month, I will be flying in to Cancun. How do I handle that entry?
Hi Paul. I am from the UK. Classed as a tourist. I just entered Mexico for the 2nd time, from Guatemala at theLa Mesilla border. I was given a 151 day visa this time. He wouldn’t let me have a 180 days. However I noticed I can apply online, which will automatically give you 180 days. However from the drop down menu, La Mesilla was not listed. So next time I will check if the Belize immigration office is listed.
Hi Dan. The online method shows 180 days but it is subject to change upon arrival. I would recommend flying to airports with the new FMM pilot, like Cancun, as a citizen of the UK you should automatically receive 180 days (per INM spokesperson).
@@qroo Thanks at the moment due to reasons I won’t bore you with, I only do land entries. If in the future this gets harder to re enter each time, then I will just continue South through the Americas. My original plan before the events of two years ago was to visit all the Spanish speaking countries. Which does include the one in Western Africa too. Thanks for your swift reply.
Wait, how do you print the FMM in the airport or wherever you show up when traveling overland?
You're too funny!
What does this mean for applying for temporary residency? Do we still need to get one of these if you go overland back to the USA to start that process at the consulate, and when you return to start the canje?
Do you know if the airport in San Luis Potosi or Mazatlan has started this pilot program?
Great Video as always Paul. Well I tried to do what you said I created a account put my passport information in and when I click on FMM it shows my FMM from last month when I was there as a tourist. it automatically fills in the information from this last time date, airline, purpose. I did hire a specialist in Merida still waiting for her thoughts on this.
Thanks for sharing that information.
Being somewhat expert in US immigration law, I can say it sounds like the changes they're making are just bringing the FMM policies in line with the US I-94 policies. Just replace wherever he says "Mexican" with "US" and you have a pretty good description. Don't expect consistency from the US side either.
Thanks for your video. Im a bit confused, hoping you could help me out
Right now I have PR in Mexico, but living in Panama (I have PR in both).
Tomorrow, Ill fly into CDMX for a connection to Japan (Mexico City to Japan). When I arrive at MEX airport do I need to do anything? Im technically returning to Mexico, but Im leaving immediately and won't be staying in Mexico.
On the way back, Ill be connecting through Mexico city again to go back to Tokyo.
Any advise?
Argentina is the destination of 2022.
How will this work if you use a passport card? I realize you can't fly with one but if you cross by land it is an option. If they expand the program to all ports of entry this seems to be a big problem.
