    Hey Ste L. just wanted to say thanks for the videos, from the 15 sec 12$ PVC check valve to this one. By now thanks to you I've replaced; that PVC check valve below the supercharger, which cracked in 2 different places, the belt tensioner was my culprit for this horrible engine noise, the alternator (which was a serious PITA to get out and reinstall), and the brake pads and calipers.

    Just wanted to say you would want to DRAIN the tranmission first, take off the pan, clean the inside of the pan out, change the filter, reapply the pan, add 5L, turn on, shift through gears while draining 3L. Turn off car, add 3L, turn on car, drain, and repeat. The method in the beginning aint great

    I have X164, and I think it does not have a transmission filler tube.
    I guess I could put a tube into the radiator hole, where the transmission line was just removed, and dip the other end of that tube into a bottlle filled with new transmission fluid, then both removing old fluid and refilling new fluid can be done at the same time.

    • @SteU4IA
      @SteU4IA  Před 4 lety

      Not having a filler tube does make a job slightly more challenging. I have flushed cars with no filler tube, the idea is the drain port is actually a long tube going up within the drain pan and you fill it from there until it starts leaking from the drain itself.
      I don't know if your described method would work because it would require decent suction at that point in the system. Are the instructions for the GL to fill at the drain port?
      Side note. One mistake I made when filling was NOT having the car on while filling. When the car is on, the transmission cycles oil through the system. When it's off, excess fluid pools back in the pan. Obviously, if you fill it when the car is OFF, you will essentially under fill it, when the pesudo-excess leaks out.

    Hope you can answer my question.
    I'll be changing oil in the transmission as well as lock-up and all that things around gasket, filter etc.
    I want to drain about 4-5 liters the method you showed in the video and then take off the oil pan and the electric plate to change lock-up valve. Do you think that it will drain much more from oil pan after taking 4-5 liters from cooler line? I'm buying 8 liters and hope to change as much as possible without flushing it with 12 liters of oil just to waste 4 of them to make "proper" flush. Your method seems to best, easiest and most clean for me. Thanks.

      It's connected to the crank case ventilation tube, the only right after the MAF. You'll see it in my MAF removal video.

    Is that an oil catch can near the coolant tank? Good diy, I've been procrastinating on flushing mine despite having the supplies ready...

    • @SteU4IA
      @SteU4IA  Před 7 lety

      Yes it is! Its tapped into the vent hose that runs from the valve cover to the intake (just past the MAF). I tried blowing into into the tank via the hose recently and found out there is pressure, I've unhooked it for now. I've ran it for ~ 9 months and haven't felt any issues. I haven't looked inside the tank but the little indicator shows there is nothing so far.
      As for the flush, the most tedious part is getting under the car to drop the pan and get to the filter. I also took the time to replace the connector plug that was leaking.

      200K km+! Mercedes' lack of service interval and previous owners lack of knowledge led to this.
      it fixed the hard shift into gear from park to drive, but it continues to slip significantly when it is -10 Celsius or less outside until t oil is partially warm.

    • @SteU4IA
      @SteU4IA  Před 7 lety +1

      in short, there's obviously some internal damage that was done. it drives fine when the transmission oil is fully hot though.

      Just wanted to say I obtained the correct dipstick now and realized the slippage was due to low transmission oil. Topped it up and it is MUCH MUCH better now.

    Hi! I have a question, hope for and get answers to, I have defective in radiator oil and cooling water are mixed together, how can I flush all the oil out, can I use your method as you show in the video, take out a little and take in a little , what do you recommend I do? I have a Mercedes C200. thanks for the reply in advance! 😊

    Hello, thank you for this instruction video. If you had a large 20 liter bin, could you have flushed all fluid in one start? why to flush 4 liters and then add 4? when you could flush all and see how much it drained and add exact same amount? (sorry if queestion is dumb) This seams very effective way of getting out most of the fluid, I was planning to siphon it out as it works well with car engine, but after seing your video I see that you can get much more oil with your method. Also I did not see clearly but did eventually clean oil started to come out? or it mixes inside the box and I should not expect oil to be perfect color?
    I got a 2003 E200 with exact same setup and I experience some slipping at first few minutes of drive while accelerating and temperatures are below 10 celsius also as it slips it slightly jerks, only when in cold temperatures, other than that shifts are very smooth. Sad to hear that after oil change slipping did not improve for you.

    • @SteU4IA
      @SteU4IA  Před 7 lety

      Vilius R.
      Thanks for the comment. I'll list out my reply so it is easy to follow.
      1. I flushed smaller quantities because if I tried to flush more than 4 L, I run the risk of having no oil in the transmission. Although I think the gears are not turning, I believe the torque converter still is. Also, having the tranmission oil pump run dry might not be the best thing.
      2. The new fluid is a nice deep red color. I eventually got from pure black to very dark red, to slightly dark red. But yes, I was unable to get pure deep red due to mixing. Not a 100% full flush, but darn close. If you really want all of it out, repeat the procedure but I don't think it will make much of a difference. The oil also isn't cheap.
      3. As for the slipping while cold. I had that issue too after the flush and before. You must have a Mercedes transmission dip stick (or a eBay knock off for $7). Drive the car for 30+ minutes to fully warm up the T oil. Then measure the oil through the port while car is running and in park. I noticed I had 0.7L missing a whole 8 months after because the first dip stick I used was a DIY made one on eBay that was not measuring properly.
      Let me know if you have other Qs.

    • @viliusr.8792
      @viliusr.8792 Před 7 lety +1

      Hi Ste.L,
      Thank you for the answer which makes it more clear now.
      I Checked the oil today with dip stick, the level seamed ok but could need a bit for maximum allowed level, but strangely the fluid was very nice red colour, the guy who provided the dip stick though the oil was ok (he works with gear boxes) I told him that oil has never been changed I assume for 16 years as car is 2003 (My dad drove, after my mom, now me), but WIN shows that car is actually 2001 and he still thought that if color was this nice the oil should be ok (weird right? 16 year old oil) He said that this slipping that I experience during first few minutes of drive (only accelerating from stop) while cold is probably due not to the oil, but more serious issue.
      Now we are having + 25 summer celsius temperatures and gear box works perfectly well, how this could be with 16 year old oil which is still nice red color (car is very low mileage for its age 148k km)
      Maybe not to do replacement of oil but try your option to add like 0.5 liter to the maximum allowed amount and see if this would reduce slipping? (sucks I cannot test now in these temperatures LOL. I am happy this helped for you as that larger amount of oil would increase the pressure some how and provide better TC grip. Or maybe the oil change actually helped for you in the first place and slipping was caused only due to the low amount and after you filled up you saw the result of your oil change:) we can only guess.
      Maybe partial oil change would not hurt and making sure the oil is to the top would be a good place to start. You think Titan 4134 would be a good choice? as price is the best and its easily available?
      Thank you again for the answer.

    • @jacobgragg4867
      @jacobgragg4867 Před 7 lety +2

      Vilius R. If you look into it, all your shifting is done by your conductor plate which is around $80 to $100 to buy and do yourself. You have to pull off the transmission pan and pull it out from there but that will fix a lot of issues. It won't fix slipping if your transmission fluid is black or very burnt smelling though. And while you're down there might as well replace the transmission filter and electrical plug which are both cheap items.

    • @viliusr.8792
      @viliusr.8792 Před 7 lety

      Thank you Jacob. The shifting is not an issue even in cold temperatures seems that car finds the right gear and shifts very smooth. I have a very strong feeling that TC slipping can give sensation that shifting is not proper.
      I noticed that then TC is slipping (only first few 2-5 minutes when starting in cold day) the TC lock up is abrupt (car jumps) , especially noticeable going up the hill. Could it be that my TC is locking up in 1st gear? at some higher RPM? I heard that Mercedes has made these boxes TC lock even in 1st gear after certain RPM for better fuel economy? in that case it would make perfect sense that I would get a rough lock up of TC if the TC is slipping.
      The gear change is amazing no complain at all when warm and TC working well. I did read that oil has a bit to do with TC slipping but not sure as I checked with couple of shops and they said that oil change probably will not help as my oil is nicely red even after 16 years, but who knows, this is something that I can live with (as this grandpa benz is my secondary vehicle) and do not want to spend on repairs unless this is something like DIY. I wonder if these 722.6 boxes can be configured not to lock up TC in 1st gear, this would be gear if possible.
      Thanks again, let me know what you think if you got time. It would be good to find out if this box 722.6 locks TC in 1st gear.

      The biggest problem I have with my car is that the headliner above the rear led light keeps rattling against the glass making noise. Do you have the same problem on the coupe?

    • @SteU4IA
      @SteU4IA  Před 7 lety

      I don't think I have that specific problem but being a 03 car the sunroof does creek a lot when it is cold outside. Any interior noise goes away after the interior is nice and toasty or when it is warm out.
      If you have access to the light its probably a easy fix, but tbh I don't work on the interior much.
