- Hi guys, today I'm bringing you first look and analysis of the San'Layn Hero Talents coming in the new The War Within expansion! Each spec will share a set of talents with another spec within a class, opening up new exciting gameplay and costumisation. We are taking a look at the San'Layn Hero tree today which is the tree shared by Unholy and Blood Death Knights.

I wish they gave us an option to have DnD move with us. Like us walking on the ground is decaying everything we touch while active, while also having the ability to drop it where you want. I would love to not have to waste the time dropping it anymore.
I can't wait to see what rider of the apocalypse will look like. It's such a cool sounding tree. The biggest thing is that I feel that frost may actually be fun to play next patch. Will have to see the trees though.
I want to see a theme of more undead minions and the ability the attack on mount. I remember one thematic azerite power where your auto attack has a chance to spawn a minions from the Army of the Dead. small dps upgrade but very fun in RP and theme.
I love the flavor they went for, I Didn't think they would capture the essence of a sanlyan with the hero talents (considering how little of them you get) but I feel like they did a good job! Excitied to see the others
I like the blood theme to but San layn is so old. We just came back from Revendreath Dks should be using primordial abilities from the shadowlands not stuff from 6 xpacs ago, so weird.
@@maxpowers4436I kinda agree, it’s like nostalgia bait for the WOTLK OG players, with no real innovation to what they are. Then again to be fair, last time they tried adding new lore like that we got Shadowlands 😬
I think these talents emphasise it’s time they remove the wound system for Unholy. It just gets in the way. And being confined to Death and Decay needs to be changed. I also agree casting Outbreak so many times due to the disease being consumed isn’t a great idea, but new disease interaction is great.
Not much was mentioned with the devs about visuals, but I hope they add some heavy hitting visuals for flavor on the new talents. Like if you choose Vampiric Speed, it would be disappointing if it still looked like the regular Deaths Advance. The capstone should have some major visual changes, for example Dark Transformation should look Vampiric in some way.
Regarding Infliction of Sorrow, I could see mad burst if you use this with Unholy Blight, since in an AoE enviroment, if we assume that Vampiric Strike works the same as Scourge strike when AoEing in Death and Decay, Unholy Blight will keep reapplying plague and then you can keep popping it. Do this together with a wounds build and that could be insane AoE.
HS caps at 5 targets I think as Blood as of DF? May be changed later however.
I'm interested to see what kind of talents we get with frost.
i dunno but we aren't getting increased movement speed to deal with required uptime issues. hopefully deathbringer has some sort of max melee range increased
The devs seem rreal excited about Riders of the Apocalypse, so we may have a base movement speed increase with some sort of mounted combat mechanic. I hope all hero specs are viable and aren't built with one being obliteration and the other being breath. That would suck if you were shoehorned into a specific build like that. I am kinda worried about frost because their design decisions have been questionable in DF.
Idk I'm worried frost is gonna get left in the dust. And if they think adding a death charger similar to paladins movement speed its gonna be a fail.
Wounds build with clawing shadows is about to get super crazy.
Hoping they put Unholy Aura as one of the Rider of the Apocalypse talents purely to be consistent with WC3 as well as providing a raid buff like Paladins do

Regarding infliction of sorrow, isnt virulent plague also applies with that aura i forgot the name of? So it keeps applying just by being near there fore vampíric strike turns into a super fun button to press
The Pact of the San'layn is 50% of all the shadow damage you do in the 10 sec window. Essence of the Blood Queen can be 20+ sec and with Gift of the San'layn it 30+ sec and if you can get Vampiric Strike within the 20 sec window without Gift of the San'layn up you can have it up all the time I think. That how I see it.

Seems like a lot that can go wrong. I dont know if they manage to implement their ideas in the right way.
These all feel like they will be really strong in PVP. I wonder if the death bringer will be the same with riders being the go to pve dps hero spec.
wish they gave us the old outbreak version back, where the one mob you targeted spreads the dot for a few seconds

wouldn't the infliction sorrow part that refers to DT that extends the dot also imply we could build a giant epidemic that get consumed as soon as dt ends and the you get your next vampiric proc? I can totally see this being the m+ option of the new hero trees, with all the utility and revolving the gameplay around dnd scourge strike spam we already do in m+ with some plague interactions where you build a giant dot on 8 targets cleaving with dnd and then explode it on them all, i can see the profile presented totally fitting into the current plague epidemic spam / scourge strike spam probably leaning more into the scourge strike spam then epidemic as it is now
I wonder if there will be some bad interactions with unholy blight for ewample, where you could repoace your value plagues that been extended by vamp strike replaced by a fresh version
Love the content, especially when you say your name at the beginning. And as a swede all i hear is "bajspump" here. Which in a leimans term means poop pump in swedish. Hilarious :D

imagine making plague last 100 seconds and then getting a random vamp strike to consume it and deal 200% of its remaining dmg sounds like a big blast
if just the adds lasts that amount, i would agree its fantastic. in single target tho this sound nice.
Guess the question is, will vampiric stike cleave in death and decay and burst all the VP in aoe? That could potentialy be some more nutty large UH pull shenanigans.
So that means we can't use Ebon Fever with Infliction of Sorrow?? About DnD, IDK why blizzard keep forcing us to stand in it. Just make it like a aura that follows the DK.
Also, Cleaving Strike for frost should work on Remorseless Winter.

14:42 Infliction of Sorrow should work perfectly with Unholy Blight. UB - dot refreshed - vamp strike - big nike - dot refreshed - carry on. Doesn't sound that bad, tho we dont play with unholy Blight in ST
And during the buff, this shouldnt be an issue at all, Unholy Blight - spam Vamp strike 😂
Question......Infliction of sorrow, consumes all your diseases but during unholy blight it keeps applying your diseases every sec.....so can you spam vampiric strike during your unholy blight duration???? especially during the dnd cleave that would be a massive burst window. Or am I wrong that unholy blight doesn't keep applying the diseases because when i use unholy blight for the duration it keeps refreshing the diseases so I assume that means it keeps applying it. So for the 6 sec you would be clearing it as fast as it reapplying it doing 200% of its damage about 6 to 7 times in 6 secs during dnd cleave window.
Infliction of sorrow sounds wild. On the one hand I don’t want it because it feels like a lot of weak aura shit to play properly, not even optimally.
On the other hand I’m thinking how wild that could be with unholy blight and superstrain.
Basically blowing up blood and unholy diseases which are immediately reapplied.
That’s like a lot of burst damage.
I wonder if u consume, with infliction of sorrow, the diseases from 7 surrounded minions when u stand in d&d
I agree outbreak is not that great fun to click. but at least with Infliction of Sorrow it will feel like spreading wounds with Vile Contagion then using death and decay then spamming Clawing Shadows/Scourge Strike. the def its way less gcd's. i just hope its actually good damage. cause in progressing high keys, unholy feels great with the mobs staying alive for more then 10 secs. but with low keys unholy feels so bad. at least for me, Infliction of Sorrow adds more spices to Disease Build which is needed compere to Wound Build. at least for low to mid keys M+ aoe.
Infliction of sorrow + dark transform + death and decay…are we really going to outbreak, scourge strike repeat for insane amounts of damage?
as a blood main i dont like that extra haste , we already have alot of it , crit would have been a much better choice
They need to just remove wounds. Bring back disease play!

a bit too much RNG for my liking, They are also all passive. I wish it had atleast 1 active ability to control the RNG.
Maybe no mention/interaction of festering strike/wounds in the hero talents preview means Blizzard has intentions of removing them from the game?
God I hope. Or at the very least replaced by a disease mechanic.
Are they just not showing frost or is no one covering it?
Looking back at this feels like they give blood a bloodthirst kind of gameplay, like a sudden rush, the thing is that blood is extremely spammy and doesnt have buttons that feel good to press, rider of the apocalypse however is much more exciting sadly is just for dps :/ they should invest more into tanks everybody already play dps
Increase in stats is boring. 5% increase? What about that feels like a hero?
Give me new animations, change in playstyle anything.
Remember back in vanilla wow, 1% increase in dmg?

It feels like a lot of the worry I have with this hero talent tree is just the worries we already have becoming amplified. Infliction of Sorrow for example increasing the duration of your disease by 3 seconds and then dealing 20% of the remaining damage means that each successive vampiric strike becomes more powerful?
The stand in your DnD stuff also worries me. If everything else about san'layn is amazing but it forces you into playing st defile and that's the meta pick I will not play unholy dk. I'm low key hoping for a DK rework at some point in the war within.
Frost dk is doa zero defensive talent that players have been asking for since dragonflight launch when blizzard nerfed deathstrike.
Looks super underwhelming. This is not what I was expecting AT ALL after Blizzcon.

Exactly as underwhelming as I had imagined. "Hero" talents mean "we make a separate talent tree for your next 10 talent points because reworking every current tree to fit an extra 5 points each will cost too many development resources".
I hate how everything is made towards vampiric strike.
this entire thing looks very OP for pvp haste is okay but life drain is crazy i think only unholy pvp gona use this and pve dps meta gona be the choice between unholy and frost most likely, also this reminds me the talent we had where we drain our runic power to passively hral ourself in mist of pandaria if u guys remember, we were so tanky and immortal in pvp
