The San’layn, or Darkfallen, were once some of the greatest members of prince Kael’thas’s army. After the Third War, as the prince joined Illidan Stormrage in Outland, the demon hunter was tasked by Kil’jaeden to use his new armies to destroy the Frozen Throne and the Lich King. Illidan travelled via portal to Northrend and, alongside Prince Kael’thas and his blood elf armies, marched to Icecrown. It’s worth noting that the original Warcraft 3 mission also had Lady Vashj’s naga fighting for the demon hunter, while the novel Arthas: Rise of the Lich King, probably as an oversight, does not mention them. Regardless, Illidan’s army was eventually defeated by Arthas and he was forced to return to Outland. Several elite blood elves survived in the wastes of Northrend, but were gradually hunted down by the new Lich King, who raised them into undeath as Darkfallen, or San’layn.

In addition to the powers they possessed in life, typically fire magic or simple physical prowess, the Lich King granted the San’layn various vampiric powers, such as blood magic and the ability to drain their victims’ life, and the more melee-oriented of their ranks were typically also granted death knight powers. In addition, some Darkfallen received powerful necromantic abilities, several of them being responsible for the resurrection of Archmage Arugal, and others have shown themselves capable of coordinating the creation of the most powerful artificial undead creatures, such as Prince Navarius creating the flesh titan Thrym. The vast majority of their elite, the princes, usually serve as commanders of the forces of the Scourge, and not on the frontlines, or as agents and ambassadors, while the lowlier among them are often bodyguards, or guard the Crimson Hall.

Interestingly, the condition of the San’layn is sometimes referred to as a curse; magically speaking, not metaphorically speaking. Specifically, their literal thirst for blood is what is termed as a curse, and the Darkfallen are the only members of the Scourge who not only drink the blood of their foes, but also actively take live prisoners in order to feed on them. Apparently, presumably the Explorer’s League has long speculated that this condition could afflict the vrykul as well. This was proven to be true recently, in Stormheim, as an ancient coven, obviously predating the Lich King, led by Blood-Thane Lucard, was accidentally uncovered and began spreading the curse to others. It’s also worth mentioning that the original concept of the vrykul also portrayed them as vampiric creatures, though this was later scrapped.
    #4:
Compared to other intelligent minions of the Scourge, the San’layn have been noted to be especially cold and arrogant, and often inflict pain for pure entertainment. Unlike other intelligent undead, such as death knights and some crypt lords, they also don’t seem to usually remember their past life. Blood Queen Lana’thel, for instance, would only consciously remember her life when she looked at her former blade, Quel’Delar, which would fill her with anger and eventually caused her to shatter and throw it away. The Darkfallen, however, do retain some of the blood elven love of luxury and comfort, as seen with their headquarters, the Crimson Hall, which is the only lavishly decorated area in Icecrown Citadel.

I suppose by giving them more stuff to do and playing up to their strengths. They were portrayed as stealthy and powerful guerrilla-type warriors in WC3, for instance, but in WoW they almost exclusively fight like humans and orcs do.

Mersi! Te urmăresc de mult si pana recent nu stiam ca esti roman. A fost un soc pentru mine. Nu sunt prea multi romani făcând videoclipuri cu WoW pe CZcams :)
