What Fear the Walking Dead Could Have Been

  • Fear the Walking Dead would have made for a perfect origin story to The Whisperers that we saw in Robert Kirkman's Comic Series as well as AMC's The Walking Dead.
Alpha has a resemblance to Madison Clark, and in general, I believe Dave Erickson and Robert Kirkman were originally planning on this show to be an origin story of villains.

The idea of them eventually turning to villains would have been so original and really could have been great! Going a step further and having Madison eventually becoming Alpha could have been so iconic!! Imagine if they actually timed it out and wrote it for that to happen. Also Nick was the first person to actually walk with the Dead so they really could have made it work

I had always assumed that Madison would eventually become Alpha.

@HikeShasta I'm a pretty hardcore TWD fan and I only recently heard that Fear had originally planned for them to turn into villains. So it never crossed my mind.

Yeah. But then AMC had to replace the shorunner with 2 random dudes, one of which was a writer on once upon a time and they decided instead of them becoming evil theyd just throw a bunch of development away and say theyre gud now

It would’ve been so sick, I remember getting huge whisperer vibes from Nick when he seemed to so naturally walk with the dead - and I 100% got the impression, especially in season 3 that Madison was en route to become like Alpha or Negan.
Then s3 ended and I learnt about the shitshow that followed lol
It would’ve been akin to Walter White becoming a villain, which given the AMC connection, is something they’ve shown they could pay off well

considering how good the first 3 seasons were, if the 4th dealt with the aftermath of the dam, the family trying to find eachother then finally taking down the proctor. afterwards season 5 introducing the whisperers and Nick being stuck at a cross roads as he feels as though they understand him but he can't leave his family, ending with Madison taking on her own son with the help of Victor and Daniel. Season 6 being a war between the two groups and ending the show with Madison dying, allowing Nick and the whisperers to eventually join the main show. Fear would have been a 10/10 series.

Season three was really good. Travis and the Clark family were great characters...Daniel, Strand. So good for three seasons at least. Everything Gimple touches eventually turns to sh*t.

I actually don't like the idea of them turning into the Whisperers, but I do like the idea of them being a new group of big bad "villains", per say, in one of the seasons of TWD or even 2 seasons. Like just imagine, the stakes and tensions would have bene off the charts. You wouldn't want any of the characters on either sides to die.
Nick and Alicia flip flopping between sides, and you not knowing whether or not they are actually real with their allegiance. Maybe we think that Nick siding with the OG TWD group and then he fcking kills Rosita (instead of her superhero death in the finale) or if they had never killed Beth with her shitty S4 death, they could have made one of Madison's group, maybe even Alicia, kill Beth and Maggie activates her S11 brutality and kills half of Madison's group in a standoff/"truce" like the Reapers in 11x09.
And we wouldn't even know who to root for, because all the characters were fcking lit from start to finish.

Its sad, really. From a creative standpoint, they had something that showed it could be great, and progressively got there. Nick is the best example of what they had, he truly had some of the best character and storytelling potential I have ever seen. The firing of Erickson is a sad mistake, I wish we got to see what he had in store.

I think a way they could have done it, while keeping the hero element, is having the Clark’s form a group led by Nick that used the technique of masks and walker blood, that later got corrupted and taken over by Morton’s Alpha and Beta. There could have been a whole story arc which these two whisperer factions.

  • @ivanangeli
    @ivanangeli Před 4 měsíci

Also add how fast Nik figured it out regarding masking himsielf and walking with walkers, how fast all 4 members of original family acustomed and become badaas and strong, the background of the Daniel and what he could do, that guy from the ranch that god piped by Medison, even the cheif Indian - all amazingly strong potential bad guys, with a competent, strong group - add a kid that gunned Nik that can sneak in anywhere, the pure strenght and ferocity of Travis, the cunning of Victor - even the girl from the flight was a badass - they could have been a group that could devastate any other group, especially if they got couple of hundred people under their leadership

This is a really interesting idea. I think they could have kept what they did and remixed it into what you said. They could have:
    A) Ended the main show after season 8/9, had Glenn be the last death of the series instead of Carl, started the spin-off stuff there (Daryl and Carol go to France, World Beyond, etc).
    B) Ending Fear after 5-6 seasons, giving lead in time for a crossover.
    C) Still had a crossover with Morgan in season 4, had him be WAY less pacifist, but still put Nick/Alicia on a path against their mother like Erickson intended. Maybe he dies trying to save them, enraging the kids. They could even do the Troy thing again but in a more cohesive context of Madison being a raging bitch (not ideal, just spitting out ideas).
    D) Had Madison then become Alpha, but way more advanced and threatening, and be the villain of a new spin-off.
    E) Flew Rick out trying to take down Negan, leaving the Maggie vs. Negan fight stuff fresh for Dead City and leaving Carl, Aaron, Gabriel, and the some of the Fear crew to fight Madison instead of Alpha. Maybe even replace the last 3 seasons with just a more powerful Madison?
They could have still made it work somehow, even I wrote a better treatment in 5 minutes than Gimple seems to have in 10 years. It's a universe, it should feel like it.
Also, it's all good Jerry. We know you don't hate anybody. It's just really, really bad TV.

This would have been so awesome. I wish Fear was a tightly-written 3-4 season show that chronicled the birth of the whisperers. And it could have been timed to have Walking Dead season 9 basically be a crossover season between the 2 shows where the main characters of each show go to war, and it could have payed off character arcs and plot points from both shows in an incredibly satisfying way

  • @Dredhedassassin

I definitely don’t think Madison should’ve been alpha but it would’ve been dope to see them interact with or fight the whisperers and show them moving on from the south

I still wonder what could have been if Darabont had never been fired from the main show after season 2. I have no doubt TWD would have been great all the way til the end. He GOT the comic and how to implement changes in the right way.

After just binge watching S3, I think what makes it good is that it’s different from the comics. The story is grounded and the family dynamic was masterfully done, even in subtle ways how the actors cared for each other. You believe Madison loves her kids and Vice versa.
Incorporating the campy story and comic book characters would have and has ruined the show. Morgan ruined the show.
Season 3 was basically better than any season of WD including original show. Seeing what the show became and how it was handled feels like the worst decision in television. Can’t think of any show where it deviated so much to the point of being unrecognizable. It went from HBO True Detective quality to SYFY Z Nation copy.
So no this show in no way should have been an origins for the Whisperers. Its strategy should have been to stay far away from the comic book as possible.

Never would have happened dude lol Erickson had way more original ideas than falling back on established lore and characters. I would've preferred the OG plan where Madison becomes the villain, turning her own family against her.

I think the second Gimple took over, it was always going to be bad. That guy fucking sucks. Darabont never should have been fired after season 2 and TWD would have better for it all the way through the end.

What really sucks about the downfall of this show is that they really had something going by the end of season 3 and completely trashed a great story line just to force bringing Morgan over from the other show. It was not needed at all and that change led to the actor who played Nick asking to be killed off which led to a lot of us bailing in season 4. There was no reason or need to bring Morgan over and I was already sick of his "i don't wanna kill anybody" BS from the main show. They kind of fixed with the Negan story line but then he just went right back to being lame again. It is what it is tho. They destroyed that show and whenever I tried to check back in it was just unrecognizably bad. Nick was the main character and should have remained the focus all the way til the end and they should have never bothered with the time jump. What could have been. Oh well.

  • @Somecupoficewater
    @Somecupoficewater Před 4 měsíci +1

I think of Rhea shehorn(Kim Wexler)
from better call Saul when I think of alpha , Samantha Morton is a great actress but it’s not the right character. I think of anyone she should have been that one lady from the hospital that dealt with Beth.
I don’t like the southern accent it seems forced and I would rather have a strong leader rather then wannabe hicks. The Clark’s 100 percent should have been the whispers I don’t think Travis should have been beta I think beta would have killed Travis and madison would have been ok with it.
We should have seen the kills from the poll scene.
The whole whispers arch should have beeeen so much better and I could write my own takes on it for hours !
I have a better take on betas death , it includes some parts comic but some original ideas I was super annoyed we got teased for the negan vs beta fight and it was rushed soooo fast.

I watched every season of FTWD up until the last half of season 8 lmao every season that came out, i was like "they can redeem the last shitty season. It's not completely fucked yet...." And every season got worse and worse... And season 7 was so god damn cringey...and here comes season 8....🤦🏻‍♂️ My god....who the fuck read that script and said "this is great! Everyone will love this!!"??? Who the fuck watched that after filming and said "perfect! No need to reshoot!" ??? Lmfao how??!! I just.... don't have words..... I'd rather watch a syfy original....
