I never liked cats either, but someone ended up dumping a kitten near my house who found shelter in the bushes along the side of my house, and he stole my heart. I adopted him and absolutely adore cats now haha.
We had something like that happen many years ago (people love dumping unwanted animals out in the country sadly, that's how we got our current dog as well). Mom and I were looking to leave but heard something meowing and as I looked around I finally found her in some weeds. She quickly earned her name Nuisance and was the only cat we've had that lived in the house. When she finally passed we buried her under the one tree outside she liked to lay under when she was out and planted Easter Lilies on the grave.

I wasn't a cat person until in 1976 I found a 3 day old kitten by the side of the road covered in fleas. I took her to the vet then took her home to care for her which meant a bottle feeding every few hours and then stimulating her to "go". Ali lived to be 20 years old and I've had many cats since then, including 2 now, the youngest which might outlive me.

And had preconceived notions, or got scratched or bit as a child by one or something. I mean the family I grew up in always had a cat. And I've owned many over the years. When I was young the neighbors cat from down the street came strolling over, so I began petting him. I knew the neighbors, knew him, & knew his name was Smokey. And as I was petting him, out of nowhere he just chomped down on my hand & bit me. Sunk his teeth in, not a warning or love bite like cats like to do. Guess he didn't want to be pet after all... Luckily it healed, & I didn't contract rabies or anything from him, even though I didn't tell anyone I got bit. The family I grew up in wouldn't have done anything but blame me anyway. But I knew enough about cats by then, not to blame or hate, or be suspicious of All cats...

I've come to realize she does that when she's hungry 🤣🤣. She's basically saying "no, don't pet me! Feed me!"

It’s amazing how people don’t like cats, till they get one, usually on accident, then you’re hooked! Can’t imagine my life without a cat. I too was “a dog person, no way do I like cats”, so was my son, my grandkids, my daughter-in-law, even my Dad. Now we all have our very own kitties that we adore. (Except Dad, he’s passed on, but he fell in love with my Sophia though)
My family too! We always had dogs, then I met my bf and his family had a few cats, then someone dumped a kitten at their house and she got pregnant before they could get her fixed, I wanted one but was living with my dad at the time and he wouldn't let me, but my sister got one. Then when we couldn't find homes for the last two I ended up taking one and hiding him from my dad for a few months, and by the time he found out he knew I would never let him get rid of my baby, he is my soul kitty. Then my sister got her own place and my mom found a kitten and kept it, over the last few years I added two more, one rescued and one found at a gas station, each time I got another, my sister and mom followed suite within a month or two, now we each have 3 kitties that we would kill for ☺️
My brother and sister in law did the same, and what's funny about theirs is that they look almost identical to mine 😂
I was a dog person, until my teenager got a kitten, ignored him for as long as i could but 4 years later she moved out and asked to take him and I said "No". He was my baby and I was his person!!Love all cats now!! I was not so cruel to leave her alone. I gave her another cat and she loves him as well. Everybody happy!!🤣💝💝

Isn’t it hilarious when cats choose the person that didn’t bring them home? My mom brought a cat home when I was living with my parents in college, and it immediately attached to me and eventually became my cat 😂. My mom was so mad. It’s true when they say they “choose” you. It will be perfectly friendly and playful with other people you live with, but whoever it chooses to sleep with is it’s “person”. Haha

Years ago my then husband was coming in after an early morning fishing trip and while he was hooking the boat onto the trailer on the back of his car (it was a Mercury Cougar) he told us he kept hearing a “cry/meow” NEAR the car. He said he checked all possible hiding spots and didn’t find a cat/kitten. Driving home the near 25 minute drive he said he heard it again. Trailering a boat doesn’t leave much room for pulling over/stopping so he continued home, and began washing the boat. All was quiet but then the meows began again so he got a rolling board and a flashlight and went under the car where a tiny kitten face was staring at him from the top of the wheel-well. 😻
He didn’t believe she rode home under there, but just couldn’t figure out what tiny area he hid in.
My kids named him Cougar yet sadly we were unable to keep him.
After 2 nights we brought him to our local veterinarian who partners with volunteers to home strays after the veterinarian spays/neuters them. 😔 This was over 20 years ago! I’d like to think Cougar had a loving forever home and could still be around ❤️
Edit: I forgot the part where he thought to himself if he’s hearing meows while driving the cat/kitten was probably terrified, yet he said he just wanted to get to our driveway as quickly as possible if in fact a kitten was hiding somewhere.
At one point the last leg of the trip the meowing stopped and he thought the absolute worst.
He explained to our kids (as they were toddlers at the time) that Cougar was seeking shelter and the warmth of the engine while the car was parked and he was off fishing the nearby waters.
Back then we didn’t have access to the Internet for answers/information like today, and I’d never in my life before Cougar knew or thought to check for fur babies in/around/under our cars during inclement weather.
Just this year we drove around in Mom's car for HOURS without knowing we had TWO kittens in the car, one riding in the front grill and the other riding on the right rear wheel mechanism. She was lucky that Mom heard her BROTHER meowing in the front and when I looked I saw her down in the wheel, just a few feet drive and she'd have been no more. Both kittens were amazingly lucky.

I had dogs my whole life. Someone I knew got an older sick cat from a woman who's mother went into a convalescent home. I had to help her. She lived an additional year and a half and was sick but I gave her the best life I could. You are not a cat person until u have your own cat...I still miss her 💜

With cats is understandably more difficult, because personalities have to match. With dogs it's usually easier, however with cats it's truer.
I'm not a cat person, but I adopted a female cat. She grew up and eventually got pregnant, and then had 5 kittens. I kept the 3,so now I have 4 cats. And I definitely love cats now.

@@gwenstacy923 this sort of thing happens daily, i had a mum cat and three kittens casually move into my balcony.She was a stray but bacame super social after 2 months of me winning her over.I also socialised one of her older kittens which i was told was feral and to not bother with.It's not hard to believe they found a small kitten and adopted it.It's very run of the mill and common but also very very adorable every time.

My husband wasn't a cat person either, and we have a big dog (an American Bully). Then, when the dog was 3 years old, we decided to get a kitten and not, a year and a half later, they're best friends. They often cuddle to sleep when it's cold and play all the time. Now my husband is not only a cat person, but a cat dad which is super awesome?

Aot of people think that cats are aloof, and yes some are. However, if you give them the basics, food, water, love then they will become super affectionate. My cat was like Luna when we first got her, scared of everything especially my boyfriend. She was already over a year old when we got her and the shelter had no history on her either. We concluded that whomever her former owners were they must of been abusive towards her. She took a liking to me very quickly, but it took a long, long time before she trusted my boyfriend. So that tells me that her previous owner was a male who was abusive with her. My boyfriend was patient and eventually gained her trust. Fast forward 8 years later- she now lays in front of the front door when he needs to leave for work in the morning because she doesn't want him to leave.😁 When he comes home from work she'll jump in his lap and nudge his hands to pet her! She's super affectionate with both of us and we both love her so much! If you ever find the right cat, you'll become a cat person for sure!

I moved to a apartment that didn’t allow dogs but did allow cats so I decided to try getting one It was the best decision I’ve ever made. When I adopted him they didn’t know about his past either but he acted like he was definitely abused like yours was. Now he’s completely over it and loves everyone. I don’t know what we would do without him cuz we love him so much. We’ve had him for 6 years now, best baby in the world 😍❤️💕

True. Lol. I guess some of us aren't really "cat people" but we have huge hearts, and we love animals (and want to protect them). So I certainly don't dislike cats, but *(of course)* I've never had a cat of my own. Lol.
@@sterlingarcher81, I completely agree. I had four ferrets and a little dog. I never imagined I'd have cats. Then I rescued two from a neighbor's litter and immediately fell in love. I grew up with both, but my father was one of those people who cared more for dogs. His logic was that dogs were more interactive, whereas cats "jumped on the highest piece of furniture and looked down on you." But when I got my cats (as kittens), I quickly discovered that they had amazing and unique personalities. The disconnect with my father seemed to be his not-understanding that felines interact differently than canines. It doesn't make them any less loving and affectionate. They just respond to stimulus on a different spectrum (probably an evolutionary survival instinct). The key with cats is to not overload them. When they get too wound up, they can't differentiate between playing and danger, and seem to have a harder time coming down versus a dog. Of course, this depends on the breed and temperament of a dog as well (mine was a mix and very submissive/beta). Oh, one last thing, I absolutely LOVE your profile pic! Great show!

If you ever find a kitten and they are crying a lot don’t assume it’s just distress. This is something kittens also do when they have other siblings nearby. It’s always worth checking the surrounding area thoroughly for other kittens before rescuing.
Even tho unexpected, an animal comes into your life when he/she should. That’s the universe speaking to you. So happy for you….and for Luna. She sure picked the right tire!!!

My husband was never a cat person until me and our previous cat converted him when our previous cat was trying to get in our house and we took him in we had to have him put to sleep on 21st of April cos he had spleen cancer and we got another one on 24th of April

That is an exceptionally cute kitten, and we all know kittens are cute by default.
I feel like everyone who says they don’t like cats either hate when things reject you or you are scared Bc of misconceptions and you think they don’t have personality. They have just as much as a dog and love just as hard. Some are crackheads and get the zoomies just like dogs. My cats have converted every cat hater I’ve met
if we were to really dive into the psychology of it all, it's not uncommon for people who have a mental illness-one which causes them to have a distorted sense of self and the reality around them-to fit in this zone you mentioned. And so they tend to attach themselves to anything, in order to soothe or distract themselves from the pain. Be it vices (alcohol, promiscuousness, opioids, gambling, social media validation etc) or attachments (un/ healthy family members, toxic working environment, relationships). If you do a quick search, you'll see they are sensitive to criticism, rejection or being abandoned, just to name a few. You might've hit the nail on the head with that one. It is a given that they'd pick dogs over cats, as society has put a more positive characterization to dogs. If I was in a bad place mentally, I'd probably go for the quickest and easiest route as well... Kids and animals do provide unconditional love, after all. This is only for those who claim dogs are more lovable than cats. And there are plenty of exceptions lol allergies, personal preferences, environmental factors, nature vs nurture etc that don't apply here. I'm just happy for any pet that gets a home, so hey... let them do them, plenty of love to go around :)

My cat Kitt (rest in paradise, my love) had the Zoomies and would also purposely trip you down stairs LMAO but he was the sweetest darling, never got above 9.5lbs as he was athletic and active. I often called him the 9lbs destroyer of worlds. He was a once in a lifetime kind of animal companion and I miss him to this day.

IKR, and it seems like there are alot of instances of cats or kittens that hide in car engines, wheels, etc.
I've seen it happen the cat was fine. As soon as the tire moves, cats jump off and run. Cars tend to start slowly and gives them enough time
@@juulee Not always. There was this white cat who was ran over in my neighborhood, caught between the tire. In addition, people speed here seemingly trying to run over cats . Can't they wait til they cross the street Geez.

I think it's that combination of ferocious--yet so cute and so ridiculously silly. Clever yet strange--can open doors but terrified of cucumbers--prefer bits of tin foil to toys, and the box the scratcher came in is way better than the box--it's like they're contrarian but not always, and I think in a way they behave the way we sometimes wish we could.
