I give my 10,000-mile update on my Giulia Veloce long-termer! Find out how it’s behaving after six months ownership and whether I’ve had any issues with the car… In addition to this, I also talk about practicality and how the Giulia compares to rivals such as the Audi A4 and Mercedes Benz C-Class.

I test drove an Audi S4, Mercedes C43 (saloon) and the BMW 340 when changing cars. The Veloce was the last to drive (2019 model) and I never even considered the first 3 as soon as I drove it. I have never had any problems with Alfas and I traded in my 2010 Giulietta Cloverleaf with 108000 on the clock. Brilliant car and so glad I upgraded to the Veloce. More people need to realise that the unreliable tag is from about 20 years ago and they are a very different quality of car now.
yeah thats what Germans like to say to. Media is working good for German cars in Europe.
Well said, I'm on my second GQV and loving it, will be shopping for a Giulia Veloce next.
Totally agree. Had my Giulia Quadrifoglio for three years, my wife had a Stelvio Milano for just under three years, both ran perfectly. Same can’t be said on her Audi A4 or two of my M Series BMW’s.
In my experience, German reliability (which up until 2010 was bulletproof) is a shadow of its former self (money pits once the warranty runs out) whereas modern Alfas have been a non issue.
@@sultanoftippoo3857 that’s because during the economy crash in 2008 BMW lowered standards in order to keep selling where as other brands stayed the course and rode it out.
And yet J.D. Power ranks Alfa Romeo at 31 out of 32 on reliabilty for 2021. Go figure.
My 2018 Veloce has covered 43,000 miles so far and had no reliability issues.
I own a new QV which i’ve done around 1500 miles in. This is my first Alfa coming from lots of BMW’s and Mercedes before and I can honestly say this car blows me away. Superb to drive, amazing handling, stunning to look at and very very underrated in my opinion!
Same here. Moved from an e39 M5, e92 M3 to an early M2 (each progressively a little less engaging than the last). I then got a Quadrifoglio which was in a totally different class (incredible chassis, telepathic steering with probably a little too much power for the public road).
To anyone who wants a drivers car with the practicality of a 4 door saloon, the Giulia QV in my opinion has no rival and I’d totally recommend taking one out for a test drive.
@@sultanoftippoo3857 Definitely too much power but once you drive it there’s no turning back!
@@v1ktos Yes, it’s so addictive and a definite licence loser! I regretfully had to sell mine after 3 years because of that fear (now got a GR Yaris) but I miss that Giulia every day.
@@sultanoftippoo3857 Love the GR too and yes definitely a licence loser!!
@@v1ktos enjoy the QV! Have a great weekend.
I own a Giulia with 50000 km without any trouble. Fantastic to ride and top reliability! Not returning to bmw 3 series anymore!
I own a 2018 Giulia in the USA. 33k mikes, no issues. Great car!
I have a 2022 Veloce in the USA with 10,000 miles. Initial quality was perfect and no problems ever. I love driving it!
How has the car been, have you had any problems with it ? Thinking of getting 2022 but no reviews about the year
@@salvadortapia3851 28,000 miles and no problems!
@@salvadortapia3851this is hands down the best car I have ever driven, it is almost the perfect car.
Under rated cars
I've had my 2021 Ti Sport for almost a year and put about 13K miles on it. No problems except a couple of self inflicted issues.
Love this car, have one coming in September. The good news is that the updated spec has separate AirCon vents in the back and a single usb
Love the spec's of your car, I own a 2016 Giulia (2.2 JTD). Received it's engine tune in 2017 (240bhp/520nM) and is stil my daily driver without any issues other than regular maintenance. Just love her.
They’re great cars - we own a Giulia Veloce 👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽
Owning a 1970 Giulia Super 1600 since 7 years on the Westcoast of Canada, I just purchased a 2023 Giulia Speciale in the Verde Montreal Colour. It is a limited (15 Cars) Edition for Canada only. After only ~2000 km I have to say that this is a great Sport Touring Car. I had two Honda S2000 (AP1 & AP2) for the last 11 years and this Giulia is a great continuation when one gets a bit older. Several Club Members own Giulia's and are very happy with it.
@Parkers Cars: You can spec rear vents and USB sockets; you can turn off Easy Entry in the infotainment.
I have had QF and now on to a Veloce. I do miss the sound track and the manic nature of the QF but the Veloce has the same looks and interior and tbh, the QF is too fast for normal UK road use. Saying that, I feel giving the Veloce 330-350bhp would have been perfect. I have the latest model, it has the LSD and is brilliant to drive and comfortable and planted.
The easy entry setting can cancel the seat issue you mentioned (it will prevent it from sliding back).
I have vents and USB in the back (must be 22 plate upgrade).
I would recommend getting the HK audio; I have a Stelvio too and that has the HK audio and sounds great.
Finally, get a carbon lip spoliler, it really changes the look of the car.
All in all, a good car. Something different to a 3 series; why be boring? People love looking at it and commenting as they're so rare.
I agree. I wish for 330+ from time to time.
@@livolas The Aircon vent at the back is the last little detail to tip the scale into winner territory for me, as I live in the tropics.
I've just hit 25 000 miles on my Giulia (2.0l 200hp) and the car is absolutely rock solid, no issues whatsoever. No squeking in the cabin, no noise. If anyone is worried about "Alfa reliability" then I think those times are long gone, Giulia and Stelvio are absolutely fantastic and very reliable and safe cars. Just respect the standard scheduled maintenance every 9-10000 miles roughly and you're golden.
@@user-fm5xf4pe6v280hp is the veloce, 200hp is the base spec of the 2.0 engine
Great content and good to hear your veloce experience has been good. I've had my veloce from new and 8 months in it's still the only car I've had that makes me turn for a last glance as I walk away from it. No regrets in buying it and only small niggles are a brake feel that sometimes feels slightly juddery. Only way I can describe it is similar to the feel after you've washed a car and there's a slight surface corrosion that you feel through the pedal until it's wiped clean...although no surface corrosion on the discs. Plus once some warmth in the brakes seems to go away. Lastly I find N mode a little jerky as it goes from coasting to putting power back on but I guess that's to improve fuel efficiency and helps me justify mainly driving it in Dynamic mode or at least it's my feeble excuse. Like I said though this is me being picky and very very minor niggles to what is a car I'm very proud to own and still seems super rare...I barely see another on the road which is a shame as people are missing out on a great car. (In my opinion).
I've had my UK Veloce (same colour and wheels as yours) for almost 5 years old now. Zero reliability issues. Still looks and drives beautiful. No cabins creaks/rattles.
My fuel economy improved after the first few thousand miles. My overall average for 36,000 miles is at 34.4mpg which I think is pretty decent for a 280hp car.
The boot has a decent amount of space, but it's an awkward shape. It's better to have lots of smaller cases/bags so you can cram them all in.
nice thx for the info
Guess you travel mostly out of town and in a very tamed manner with that mpg . I get about 18 in the city and 28 outside.
Wasn't these wheels and colour only recently added in the update. Wernt available 5 years ago
@@cianhally2349 These 19" diamond cut alloys were first available on the Veloce in November 2017, which is when I got them. And misano blue has been available in the UK on the Veloce since launch (around March 2017 I think).
@@livolas I don't drive like an idiot, and yes, a fair amount is on the motorway. I've just got back from a 1300 mile trip to France in the Giulia and it did a 40.6mpg for that.
I have the Giulia Super 2018 with 70000 km and zero problem
Fantastic and characterful car.
Finally a review where the Journist does not bang on about Alfa's supposed lack of reliability. Had my first Alfa in 1979 (working in Milan) then drove company cars when back in UK (all makes) - but 20 years ago had the option to take the cash and chose to drive Alfas again (which were never on the Company Car lists). Twenty years later, with no serious complaints, I'm now driving a new Guilia Sprint and I'm very happy with her too.
A truely beautiful car and one perfectly balanced to drive. My (MY22) version came very fully specc'd with runflats, adaptive cruise etc all as standard. Is 200bhp enough? Well 6.6. sec to 60 is faster than my 3litre 166 could do and it's perfectly good enough for most days (a remap to 280bhp is always a possibility once out of warranty). Not too many Guilias being sold now but it is the last true Alfa in my view and certainly the last pure ICE Alfa. I'm averaging 34.3mpg btw but with a lot of short urban drives (Tesco C&C etc) - my Guiletta managed 36.7mpg over 43K.
So don't listen to the herd, get the best looking/best performance car in it's class on the market (still) and you will enjoy her every day, even if she's just sitting on your drive.
I have Giulia Sprint and yes 200HP is enough 😀. I enjoy every single ride in this car.
@@willknott9245 Parked in our town centre today but could still see my parked car from the coffeee shop we were in - and was amused (& pleased) to see a passer-by taking photos of my Guilia on his phone. Hopefully he was just admiring her and not planning to anything dubious! I don't recall anyone ever doing that with the company Beemer.... 🙂
@@webmasterg3526 once when I was about to get in the car, one guy which was walking with his daugthers, stopped and screamed to me through the street "what a beautiful car".... I get that a lot...
Love it👌
Totally agree with you tire pressure unit plays up and mine is red a good car overall
Own the Giulia, best driving and most special car i have ever driven ex BMW 3, Mercedes E class and A5 driver
I go back and forth, hot and cold on the Giulia (as a next car). Is the Veloce a "drive-a-slow-car-fast" sort, built for hustling along the twisty bits? Glad AR is handling the issues that plagued it in earlier variants.
The only reason I got Kia stinger gt2 over this was practicality and interior materials. The giulia handles like a dream.
Had mine 3 years now, the only time it goes back to the dealer is for a service
not through the whole video really but the fuel consumption thingy already knackers me. I mean 7.4l/100km is amazing, there is nothing to contemplate and to argue about. I've driven enough cars who don't even come close to their WLTP and are considered to be great fuel wise. Great job so far, see u in 10mins
not much to add, except the fishnet on the back of the seats looks just cheap. I'd prefer to miss it completely. Looks better and the people in the back most of the time deserve to be there and don't need any fancy stuff. I mean, come on, they can drive in a fabulous car without doing anything. Should be plenty enough already. Cheers
My 2018 had rear A/C vents and rear USB. In America I have never seen an Alfa without this. Even in the brochure all rear interior pictures show this car with rear A/C vents
If you specify the climate pack you can have air vents and a USB port in the back. Also you can set the drivers seat to stay fixed in position when entering or getting out of the car
Yes neerleggen all Giulia's have air vents in the back and a USB. AN eectronic tailgate is standard as well.
Neerleggen all . . .
Nearly all . . .
WOW WOW Nice Car 🚘 ALFA ROMEO GIULIA 🔝😎🔥🏆🥇🍀🐍
So beautiful
One niggle from mine is the no vents in the rear, had them on the 159TI. The Giulietta Veloce before i got the Giulia also didnt, but that a hatch. Strange one really.
Is there light settings available - can you switch to right side driving lightening?
Driving a car around without a spare tire scares me. Any experience with the run-flat tires?
You can disable the automatic displacement of the driver's seat.
Cannot wait for my Estrema to arrive. However, it has the rear vents and USB ports. Maybe it was added for the newest trim.
Yep, now standard on Veloce as well
My 2018 had rear A/C vents and rear USB. In America I have never seen an Alfa without this. Even in the brochure all rear interior pictures show this car with rear A/C vents
@@djbrianc I've seen that in other international reviews, some have had dual USBs in the rear as well. Others also seem to be 4WD The UK does seem to be on permanent catch up to the overseas models sadly
I so want one..!! :)
I hope the new facelifted Guilia/Stelvio's get the mild-hybrid 2.0l from Maserati with 320-330hp.. some point.
💚🤍❤️ Alfa Romeo 👍
I can't fathom HOW you get >30 mpg in the car! I've got 2021 Veloce Q4 and the best I can get in mixed use is about mid-20 mpg (10 l/100km). No AC ever and 1/3 throttle only?
Depends on how you drive lol, if you floor the gas constantly ur gonna get less
tyre pressure monitars go wrong in most cars
Excellent review but I don’t get why you don’t believe the adaptive suspension wouldn’t be better…as you haven’t got it. 😊
We’ve driven both, the adaptive suspension doesn’t add anything hence why we’d save the money. 👍
@@ParkersTV Moot point because you can’t add it to the Veloce anymore anyway! Sadly the Stellantis takeover has removed the possibility of most options these days 😢
Its odd that they don't give you usb ports or air-con vents in the back on the Veloce, because the US Spec base model does.
Same with my car, European model. So maybe only UK versions don’t have these.
My 2019 veloce doesn't have vents but the air comes out from under the front seats into the back. So no the UK model doesn't have vents in the back, but those in the back are still kept cool anyway. My Veloce has been faultless and is a joy to drive. Get close to 50mpg in Normal mode on long journeys. And over 30mpg around town in either normal or dynamic. Wouldn't swap it for anything, except perhaps a Cloverleaf. My Giulietta Cloverleaf did 108000 miles before trading it in and no issues, and a great little car to drive.
@@sx200n1 I think it maybe based on spec or options. My 2019 Veloce TI does have rear air-con vents together with USB connection.
The boot is something different than a car part, also bonnet is a head accesories. From where those aberration in british english?!
32.2 MPG == 8.8 l/100km Well to me this is INSANE result for Veloce. A little hard to believe If I'm being honest. Unless no typical city driving at all.
7,4L/100km is good for 280ps my Fiesta with 60PS eats up to 8L / 100km. Have fun with this baby it will be a classic. dont sell it.
Completely agree, this is definitely a future classic. Completely underrated
I know mud sticks with the British car buying public, and for sure Alfa had a bad reputation back in the 89’s and 90’s but have they been bad in the past 15 years or so, I keep reading reviews from different people they all speak highly of Alfa, this model did have a rad leaking problem which was fixed by Alfa and a turbo pipe seal leak, easy fix, be interesting what as a reviewer you have found them to be much improved?!
Can you please cover the 2023 Stelvio Estrema? Is there a facelift expected?
Noted! Stelvio has already been facelifted. 👍
@@ParkersTV I'm new to the world of Alfa Romeo😅 and there's little news about them. Dealerships here in the States have ZERO product knowledge🤦🏻♂️
@@ParkersTV when was it facelifted, if you don't mind me asking?
So there was a couple of issues? When buying new, I just want it to work perfectly.
Sadly it can happen in any car. I’ve had problems with new Audi’s and Mercedes.
Unfortunately that is how it is now a day. Even a new Toyota is going to have a “couple of issues” if you think a software update is a real issue.
No idea how you’re averaging 32 mpg. Even driving like a saint in eco mode I’d struggle to get that. More like 26 though dipping into the car’s capability 22 is more like it.
😮
I may be wrong but I believe the UK uses the Imperial measurement system whereby its gallon is approximately 4.5 litres versus the US gallon being approximately 3.8 litres. Ie 20% larger gallon and thus mpg is much more that way.
I’m getting 16 MPG in Los Angeles driving in the street
I had one of the very 1st giuila 2.2d speciale ..early 2017..
Was a stunning car and I loved it .
But was never away from the garage ..
Too many things to remember .. it had horrible knock on the steering for about twos years before they agreed to change the steering rack .. I also had new bumper fitted as the clips failed ..
I decided to keep after 3 years as it was paid for .. then got more faults I had to pay for as warranty had ran out.
I traded it in for c class and now drive and bmw i4..
The problem is in the uk.. the service you get is shocking .. they didn’t even know how to fix mine when I 1st got it ..
The Germans cars are just built so much better and like for like cost about the same .. eg 330i for veloce
Looks great and drives great though
Ps…my wife has a Gulietta haha
BMW = Bring Mich Werkstatt.
I wouldn't have one over an Alfa. I know too many people who have had issues and I've never had problems. Although I will say that the diesels are a low point on some Alfa's. Whereas the petrol engines are much better. Alfa are just above Audi and Merc and just below BMW in the warranty stats at the moment so are just as reliable as the Germans. Anyone can get a bad example with any make of car, and sounds like you just got unlucky. A family member had a 5 series (540 or 530 from memory) and that rarely left the engineers at Barons BMW in Camborne.
How can you not get air vents for you passengers at the back? Bizarre.
For me personally, this over any bmw or mercedes in class.
At 0:38 the cliché unreliability nonsense starts early here. If you truly want an UNRELIABLE RIDE go for
BMW
Merc
Audi
Porsche
VW
Peace out dawg
FORZA ALFA BABY !!!
THE KING IS BACK !!!
The old wheels were SO much better!
I have no doubt that Alfa Romeos will be reliable for the first 4-5 years with regular maintenance. BUT the real question is whether it will be reliable pass the lease period.
