No
It sure was one of the best 😀do I ever miss Michael, great memories of Mika and Michael
There aren’t that many which lasted more than one season. Prost vs Senna and Rosberg vs Hamilton that’s pretty much it
3:24 Ferrari should have 74points, not 62
MSC: 46
RB: 28
46 + 28 = 74
Hunt vs Lauda
No Michael without Mika, the Flying Finn changed him for the better. Schumie's fights with Hill and Villeneuve just felt like powder kegs.
BINGO. Nico was the best thing to happen to Hamilton just as Mika was the best thing to happen to Micheal. No Mika and I think he loses 2003
Mika was nowhere near Michael's league. So overrated. McLaren had far better cars than Ferrari over the 98-2000 seasons and that's the only reason he won. 2000 he couldn't even do it, 99 mika was fucking it up badly but Schumacher was injured.
@@dxfifa don't be that guy
@@gregoryrogers.21 no facts allowed right
@@dxfifa Ferrari had the best car since 1998. Mclaren was slightly faster but not as reliable. In the end Ferrari was better. Schumacher should have won the titel easily but he lost it due to lack of driving skills. The same happened next year. Irvine had all what he needed. On the other hand it shows as you need to be a decent driver to be able to won the titel. A superior car is not giving you the titel. Again in 2000 Ferrari were in their own league and still Schumacher hardly managed to win the titel.
This and Prost / Lauda showed that there CAN be friendly rivalries in the fight for the championship.
yeah that was very unique. In all honesty, it was likely humbling for prost. had lauda not been so good under pressure, I dont think it would have been smooth. On paper, that's a nightmare.
The current friendly rivalry is actually between Sebastian and Lewis. The media rarely covers this, but you can see always having each other's backs during controversial moments. Like Seb backed Lewis up at the 2019 Canadian GP, saying that the people should not boo at him, and in-person congratulated Lewis at the 2019 USGP for his sixth world title.
And for almost every spin Seb has made, Lewis is always the first guy to immediately defend him, saying that the media should not focus on these mistakes, but rather the amazing performances that Seb has put in comparison.
@@idexpro8263 Very good points.
Lauda/Hunt was pretty friendly too, as were Stewart, Hill, and Clark. Surtees vs Brabham was an underrated and cordial rivalry. On the flip side, piquet vs mansell(or anyone else) was never cordial, and Hawthorne/Collins vs Musso didnt end well for anyone.
@@grungyflannel The 60s I feel were a much different time so I'd say in was the norm for such rivalries.
As for the other, that rivalry seems a bit overrated to me. Hunt is nowhere near Lauda's level to even call it a rivalry.
By far the 2 most mature drivers ever seen on the paddock and track. It is kinda sad that hakinnen was completely overshadowed by michael in worldwide recoginition but i am sure he never cared much about any of that
yeah agreed Atharva - I knew going in focusing so much on Mika in its nature wouldn't get as many views but this rivalry is one of the most important to me personally and IMO to the sport at large. I've always says Mika is the best offensive racer, but Michael the most systematic winning driver. Regardless people forget how crazy the battle was. but never dirty. I hope this is a good reminder :)
What about 1997 at Jerez?!
@@houstonharwood993 that’s not between mika and Michael, dummy !
Hey, Crazy Yankee. I have to say I really appreciate these mini documentaries. These are great for long time F1 fans and people just getting in to it. You are doing a great service to F1 right now no jokes. Thank you.
It's all I can do ! And I take the trust of those who subscribe very seriously. So I'm glad you are enjoying the content :)
Well said 🇮🇪👍
"BuT MiChAeL wOn WiThOuT aNyOnE ChALLeNgiNg HiM"
I know right There’s like 2 years in his whole career that’s true haha . On the teammate side it’s true but challenge from external has always been pretty high
@@CYMotorsport
Many people forget also that Michael basically came along and gave Ferrari the last remaining kick it needed to reach the high it would sit at for the next decade or so.
I'd dare to say that contrary to popular belief Ferrari didn't made Michael, Michael made Ferrari (perhaps much like Niki Lauda did back in his days).
Only true for 01 02 and 04 tbh
@@dimitrisqwerty Arguably not '01. Schumacher was at his best back then & likely would have won in 1/3 teams. Ferrari, McLaren, Williams.
@@JT-ko2ib 01 was really debatable but imo he wasnt dominant that season
I remember watching this rivalry unfold as a young Finnish kid. I never routed against Michael during that time. I think the respect they showed each other showed me that I didn't have to hate the rival because they were the rival. In the Nico-Lewis rivalry everything was different. I definitely routed against Lewis throughout that time. Looking back I really hope we could have more of these respectful but competitive rivalries between drivers.
For me, the best era. The drivers, cars, engines, rules, commentator, everything.
This and mid- late 80’s , I’m all in!!
Think Hakkinen was the only driver who truly got under Michaels skin and matches his speed more often in qualifying like u said but crucially in races like in Spa 2000. Arguably one of the all time great overtakes.
That 2000 season the McLaren was unrealiable and Coutlhard had his best year. that year and maybe 2001 was his best ever but David would win races where Mika had to win. Like in France, Monaco and Germany. Out of possible 40 where Michael retired, he got 23 points. Crucial races in mid season where didn’t get maximum pts, he needed that setup for gaining ground going forward and finish season close to Michael.
i'm trying to figure out a way to tastefully do my "Alternative history" series and one is if Senna stayed at McLaren. can you even imagine the quali battles??
@@CYMotorsport, it's an interesting idea, but it's sort of like "what if Schumacher never retired until 2012." In the same way that Schumi was already largely past his prime in 06 (with brief *moments* of brilliance like Monaco quali in 2012), Senna was making more and more errors in 94, as was pointed out by Mika a couple of years prior. Senna might have still been competitive in 95 & 96, but Schumacher et al. would begin to overtake him by that point. This sport is just not kind to the human body.
CrankyYankeeF1 You’re gonna have to think of one hell of a reason for Senna to stay for 94-96. Honestly I think it would make him retire as he would be upset with himself for not jumping ship to Williams. Also Senna vs Hakkinen vs Schumacher *brain explodes*. But seriously I think Senna could probably win 1 more title in that alternative timeline but my god would he have to fight for that one
In fairness, Hakkinen had reliability issues anyway in Monaco, so he wouldn't have won the race even if he were faster than DC. But yeah, Mika really should scored more points between GB and France.
Fair enough but Michael had one more dnf than Mika in 2000 but he had more dnf due to his mistakes.
As an F1 fan from the 90s and a diehard Mika Hakkinen fan, I must say Schumacher is the greatest in F1 history along with Senna. Not easy for me to admit but he was that good looking back.
thank you so much. hakinnen was the real rival that light up schumi spirit.
Got into F1 thru the Netflix series and found your channel thru it. Really great stuff and as someone who enjoys the stories and history of things in general, I really appreciate all your content. Has taught me a lot.
I'm glad you enjoyed it Frank! I try to make content that challenges an idea or concept while serving all types of fans. This one was a bit more nuanced but I'll get back to more broad topics in the next one.
Am I the only one who finds it crazy that Schumacher had 41 wins before he even won his first Ferrari title. It so often feels like he mostly won in his dominant ferrari but really a huge part of his success came from the super close battles in the first half of his career.
It’s the weirdest thing haha rarely was he THAT dominant. He was losing most of his 2000 season. Arguably could have been beaten in 2003 by two drivers. 01 was a good fight but 02 was embarrassing for the grid. And 04 might have been worse than 02. We remember the latter two but I do attribute that to the Ferrari pit wall and Schumacher’s stellar driving bc they never truly had the dominant car for long stretches. The bmw was the best engine but good lord they had no clue Aero wise. I still believe the 04 season was the one that got away from newey and head. Williams famously bottled it with the walrus nose. And mclarens car failed them in testing it . Both should have done significantly better. Net he fought them out. The Benetton years have their fair share of controversy over them so I’ll leave that to someone else to comment on haha
The interview brought a tear to my eye, amazing comraderie shown between two greats of the sport. I remember seeing that interview at the time but I was too young to understand the true gravity of the situation. Excellent video. Subscribed.
Another great video. I subbed, your content is really amazing and professional. Schumacher VS Hakkinen was my childhood and I have fond memories of their great battles. Mad respect between the two Legends of the sport of F1.
The Schumacher and Hakkinen rivalry is the best recent rivalry so far. The Hamilton and Rosberg is also a good one, but not as dramatic as Senna and Prost.
yeah senna prost was one for the ages !
12:38 Man your narration gives me the goosebumps, it's crazy. Lovin the series, can't wait for more.
very good video my friend, i am feeling almost emotional about their friendship and the love and respect that was there. very elegantly shown. Cant wait for next time
glad you could check it out. more coming soon - though the next one wont be so cordial between drivers haha
I love the set up at the end! I am looking forward to the next video! Great content :D
I'm eager to get started on it :) thanks Robert!
Great video as always! Thank you for the good educational F1 Content!
Very fitting audio and your best production yet. Did the story justice 👏👏.
Thanks Josh! glad you enjoyed it. this is def up there with one of my favorites ever
Fantastic video about two of my favorite drivers. It took me back to my childhood and my eyes misted over.
I def got a little choked up editing haha you should see me picking music after done editing the on screen bits. it's like a kid in the playground haha
Dude!!!!!!!! That was great!!!! Thanks for all your hard work. You bring it every time! It is a pleasure to watch your videos.
it's my pleasure I really really enjoy this and the channel's growth let's me do it more and more full time
Your videos just keep getting better, man. The writing, narration, and production value continue to improve with every video, and it’s been an honor to watch you grow as a content creator. Thanks for doing what you do.
I really appreciate that Stavros. every single video I do aggregate up what was the thing everyone was most critical of or where was the most confusion and try to improve it. The good thing about doing this full time especially right now is I don't have a choice but push to the limit for you all. i'm really thankful people trust me when I say it's not possible to hurt my feelings. that's how you get better content! Eager for the next - more soon :)
Great stuff again. Your docs make me relive my youth and the F1 I loved!
That’s an awesome compliment- thank you for the feedback!
Definitely worthy of the "Rush" treatment, this rivalry. No heroes or villains, just the sport and skill.
I’ll be taking a crack at the 1976 season here soon :)
I'd love to see a "Rush"-like movie about those years...but would probably be "just" a chapter in a Schumacher biopic some time in the future. But just seeing those beautiful cars in cinematic glory would be amazing!
I just wanted to say thank you so much, I never knew about all of these great stories in F1. Thanks for giving me a new appreciation for the sport :)
Glad you liked it my friend!
Man your videos are great. Thank you
That way you tell F1 history is truely like no other. Keep up the amazing work mate! 👏👌
I'm glad you enjoy the work. i'll make sure to keep pushing!
Holy crap! How have I not known about this channel! Great stuff, dude!
I love that Hakkinen overtake, and I didn't know about the Macau part of the story so thank you for telling that. And I love that press conference moment, this is a good rivalry.
one of my favorites ever!
10/10 stuff man I always get excited for your new releases please keep up the good work
You got it!
1 of the best years of F1. Very well put together again Nick.
Glad you enjoyed it!
As always a brilliant way of bringing the rivalry to life, really enjoyed the 2 parter! Mika and Michael's is a rivalry I've watched and looked more into recently and like all the great rivalries of the sport it's one that engrossed you. The stat where they both finished with only 2 where they werent both on the podium shows just how far ahead these two were in this time. A great story to relive!
I accidentally stumbled on that stat haha it’s fascinating and speaks to really they thrives off each other in the most beautiful way
@@CYMotorsport It really does and I think when they finished GP's a minute ahead of the rest of the field it spoke volumes, incredible levels they set for themselves and pushed each other to!
Absolutely beautiful video! Couldn't love it more!
Thanks Tommi! glad you liked it. I would say the music really helped here. no joke the music took a full day on this haha but video elements need music no doubt. the difference really is night and day
press conference Monza 2000. In my opinion on of the most emotional
very good video. keep it up :)
that was a tough one for me haha watching over and over in editing. just no one knowing what the hell to do. even mika asking to go to Ralf because he needed a second - I think hearing Michael cry next to him was making him get upset too. glad you like it! really pushed myself in this video so i'm glad the reception is there. I try to implement the feedback my best!
@@CYMotorsport haven't personaly witnessed that one but my dad showed it to me. The hole video was just a trip down memory lane haha
Mika was on the podium of Imola -94, wasn't he? Third? I think he understood better than most how Michael felt at Monza 2000.
Goosebumps....
@@CYMotorsport Hakkinen was also on that podium in San Marino 1994 ... that day was burned both in his and Michael's memories...
What a great mini documentary. Great job. 👍
I adore Hakkinen humanity and his love for family life. A normal person who worked as a driver, who won one F1 Championship, not a typical F1 driver in the star system.
he really was - he felt like such a normal dude :)
Last time I was this early we had a defending champion who wasn’t European.
lol last one was senna in 91
is it bad I sat here re-reading that over and over again hahah I dont think it was meant to screw with our heads but damn it you got me. defending like, 1x defending? or arrived on the grid defending? we talking good ole JV in '97 or after Senna's double at McLaren?
@@CYMotorsport senna is the last non european f1 driver who actually defended his title ('90 & '91 title)
so that's why i left out jv
CrankyYankeeF1 were talking about Jacques Villeneuve.
Some months ago I thanked you for producing these videos/documentaries and said it was a long shot till the season opener in March. I watched every 2012 race all over again. Now we are in May and still the start of season looks far away, if possible at all.
It's the right time now to appreciate F1's rich past, rivalries, teams power shifting, innovation, new characters and a long list thereafter. Now that all we have is replays or eSports, one come to appreciate what we, fans, give for granted.
I want to express my gratitude for producing each video. Being a youtuber I know very well the time, patience and resources required.
Thanks man! Stay safe.
It’s a genuine honor to investigate, analyze and create things people watch. Thanks for your encouragement - you know as well as I this content game can be incredibly isolating. Genuine human moments mean a lot to us so for that truly, thank you
Excellent video once again. I was quite young during the reign of these 2 two though I remember it vividly.
same boat here! one of the earlier but vivid memories I have are Michael's titles and Ayrton's death so young me saw Schumi as today's Hamilton. but old me now sees how much was behind it !
@@CYMotorsport can you make a vid about the 94 benetton cheating scandals and how that affected the 94 season
Awesome! Thanks for the content brudda!
was a real grinder of a video but I'm happy with it. hope you like! but let me know how I can improve as always!
Man, you are a lovely storyteller. Mesmerizing job. Magnificent. Keep going. You've already done some great reviews about some of the most interesting years in the sport. But you should do some more (like 2018) because you are doing a great job.
you make such good entertaining analysis videos man, great job!
Thanks Lucas! More coming :)
Great video and great writing. Really enjoy your work.
This one was a treat to create. More on the way :)
Great video!! Amazing production as always keep it up💯💯
Keep pushing :) more on the way
Great video, this is the year I started watching F1, hooked instantly.
what an incredible year to start haha
@@CYMotorsport I know, it's easily my favorite year too. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I believe the U.S. coverage was on Foxsports (except the US GP) . Missing F1 :(
You just made me drop a tear. Thanks for that :3
Great video. Those were some great times to be a F1 fan.
Hopefully took you back!
@@CYMotorsport Sure did.👍
my best f1 period the battles between these two
another brilliant video, 13 minutes felt like 2
I really like your content :)
greetings from Germany
as good as a compliment can get on youtube haha. that's very much my editing style. which is usually fitting for my 30 minute content but it's hard for me to tell this short of stories so i'm glad it still felt quick!
This video is brillant, i feel like i'm 6 yo again rooting and screaming for Michael in front of my TV during every session, every race, asking my dad to bought me every magazine and recording the races on tape. Finally he got the title and it was relief after the 97, 98 and 99 season. Mika is a legend and a gentlemen, he race hard but he was clean. Thank you for this moment
Another brilliant video
Your videos are absolutely great. I was always drawn to F1 for the engineering aspect as I’m an ME (shocking I know). But, your videos do a great job exploring the more “human” aspect of F1. Since I didn’t watch F1 nearly as much before I did FSAE, I really appreciate getting brought up to speed on historic F1 events. So keep up the great work, the amount of work that must go into these videos is really apparent.
I’m glad you see that! The next video will be a super technical one so you’ll have to let me know what you think :)
Absolutely stellar video....Thank You Cranky Yankee.. You are a godsend for the F1 community.. Keep it up. 👍
i'm thankful for the overflow of support and even more so all the feedback. each video pushes one new element to the limit. thanks for your support. even likes, comments especially all this sharing is absolutely breaking youtube's algorithm haha rarely do they push my content bc it's independent but have no choice so thanks!
Man great video CrankyYankeeF1, love this vid, also love the comment section-finally a f1 video without a load of toxic comments lol.
Yeah I work really really hard to call bull shit out and push any POV that lacks data or any logical base. This will never be a propaganda page idc how many hours I have to spend in the comments section but at this stage, people realize if you want to leave a relatively bombastic comment please do so! But expect it to be challenged by someone. I’m thankful for the channels reputation and have everyone to thank for the help achieving it bc now trolling rarely happens and solid disagreements that are incredibly productive are literally all over the place
This is a great video. Well done. Thank you.
I’m glad you enjoyed the vid! I’ll keep adapting to the feedback
I never saw Ayrton Senna race live or even until well into my teenage years via old replays but it’s amazing how his death still impacts me all the same today. Great video follow up, yank. Enjoyed it way more than part 1.
yeah this one I think people wanted more on track action. If you are younger it's harder to relate which makes perfect sense. helpful and i'll keep it in mind! I specifically remembered your feedback on the last video haha
@@CYMotorsport No pressure, amirite? Haha.
Ayrton Senna's death is the defining moment of Formula 1 history, and perhaps even motorsport history (maybe even all of sports history). There is no way of over-overemphasizing the colossal impact it had. I don't think any sport had ever lost its greatest (ever) star in such tragic fashion. I was 14 at the time, and I was so gutted I didn't watch Formula 1 again until late 1997, only because McClaren started showing signs of a revival and and it piqued my interest. (I then duly fell in love with both Hakkinen and Coulthard.) But for those years after Senna's death, I had no desire to watch F1; the pain was too profound.
Love the content, homie. Keep it up!!
glad to hear Jonathan. More cooking up as we speak
Fantastic video and storytelling
glad you liked it Sid! hope you and the baby in your pic are all good and healthy!
Great stuff indeed, very well presented. What might have added to the Schumacher - Häkkinen rivalry was their time in F3, not just the Macau Grand Prix but particularly the end of season race held in Hockenheim where British F3 champion Häkkinen tuned in to a F3 finale in Europe and where he virtually blasted Schumacher and the rest. That would be a very important addition indeed to your very good comparison! That was Hockenheim F3 finale in 1990, I found but do not add a clip for fear that it may violate the youtube regulations, but you can easily get hold of it. Greetings from Bern, Switzerland.
Thank you so much for the video about this amazing champions...
I'm glad you enjoyed it Fernando!
As always, love the content. You are a gem
means a lot, Haroon. positive or negative feedback Idc I want it all just to make sure you guys get the content you deserve. as I grow I'm getting more liberties so I'll be able to push it more and more :)
A masterpiece.
I rarely comment but I truly appreciate this one.
Thank you
I’m glad you enjoyed that one Ahmad! And glad to hear it was worthy of the feedback:)
Goosebombs! I loved it! The fact that Mika is still in contact with the family and is doing what he can to support Michael speaks for its own. I remember, I don't know if it was Frank Williams or Patrick Head saying: Let us pray that the area Schumacher will come to an end. Well ...The FIA did its Job in 2005.
haha yeah i need to really dig into this! been looking for a way to tell that story - good insight!
@@CYMotorsport boyond the grid interview with Ross brawn is helpful and somewhere Bernie admitted that too in some interview. But I do not remember where that was🙈
Only Lewis and Seb in opinion share an near equal level of respect for each other both on and off the grid... That is what I miss when I see the youngsters like Max, Charles, etc. I know it isn't their fault they are in-experienced and don't know the worth of such respect yet... but I really would love to see that more from the new generation of drivers... As always, amazing video CYF1!
yeah I'd love to see them go all the way down to the wire in more wheel to wheel combat and see how things shake out. Lewis still feels comfortably ahead with his car but to your point, I still think they'd get on. They really do seem to like each other. Hamilton was always so giddy when seb went back to the podium room after his titles haha
I dunno, seeing how they play virtual racing and seem to be good friends, like Albon and Leclerc and their recent ''rivalry'' in sim racing, I have high hopes about this new generation of drivers
@@CYMotorsport czcams.com/video/aAR-_loNDeU/video.html I think you should definitely make a video about Seb and Lewis in the future. They definitely have a really good relationship despite fighting.

Great content as usual! But wasn't Michael absent from the european grand prix in 1999? MIka Salo was in the race instead.
That video was sick af!
it was def fun to create - glad you liked it it Tommy
Thanks that's the best F1 video I've seen ! So honest and fair to both drivers ! Up Schumacher 🇮🇪👍
Great video again

Michael VS Mika... always loved seeing these guys battle it out, along with the teammates. Eddie, David, Rubens. Seeing the yellow Jordan brought back memories. Was such a shame when they had to leave, Be On Edge, and Bitten & Hisses will always be my favorite workaround of the tobacco sponsors
yeah I seriously can't get enough of this time of F1 hence why I've done so much of it lately haha
Excited for the next episode
me too! even though I have no clue which it'll be next haha
Wow. This kind of content is why CZcams exists. Thank you
Made the hair on my arms stand up when you brought up Alonso at the end, the music, the emotion he always showed
as much shit as I give the man, I'll always ALWAYS love and appreciate how much he put into racing. The video will likely be critical, but I'll make sure it's very fair. he had the special ability to corral an entire team to victory same as Michael. both with their share of controversy. but on track, there are many more calculated drivers
CrankyYankeeF1 that’s awesome bro, I enjoy your videos, good to see someone else from the states enjoys F1 as much as I do, I’ll continue to watch from Atlanta!
This is so so so cool! Thanks for the brilliant content! This one is too good! Eagerly waiting for the video where you explain how Alonso takes the crown from the legend, Schumacher!
that's going to be a fun one :)

glad you liked it! it was more to adapt from the feedback in part 1. was fun to see the changes take form
I'm a massive Schumacher fan and those years when he was up against Hakkinen were some of the best. Hakkinen retired way too early. The 2000 season was the most intense as a fan. I thought Schumacher was going to walk it but Hakkinen came charging back and it looked like it was slipping away. Then Schumacher went on that epic late run of poles and wins. The 2000 Japanese Grand Prix was one of the all-time great races. Both drivers at the top of their game.
Can't wait to see what you have to say about the 2005-06 seasons,
As a die-hard Michael fan it hit hard to see rubber being such an integral part of the sport and the Suzuka engine failure forcing Michael to go into retirement when clearly a year more would've given him another championship in 07.
This video was absolute gold!
It took me right back to being a 12 year old with sweaty palms on a Sunday morning.
This era and a lack of access into the paddock for me gave it an intangible almost surreal feeling which I thought went away 2006-7 onward.
I've watched F1 since the early 90's and am yet to come across content as accurate and well rounded as yours. Top work. Just clicked that bell. :)
It’ll be interesting. It’s going to be more about the car as of now than anything
@@CYMotorsport Looking forward to it!
im waiting for Alonso video,
I recently started to get in motorsport in quarantine and watching these videos helped me a lot, I used to watch really highlight and that's it by watching your vids im getting into F1 now thanks Man. keep up the Great Work
Hope SEB joins Merc
Michael respected a lot ayrton senna, he even had some arguments and people used to say michael was the new senna back in the days, probably the reason why he was hit so hard with memories and just started crying. is a human thing to do.
Senna did a lot for Michael. makes perfect sense why that was so hard for him to take
The best F1 channel. Period.
Glad you are loving it Mohit!
This was the year I started watching F1. And unbeknown to me it was amazing. Looking forward to your Alonso video. I didn't know much about him but I knew it felt wrong for him to win. It will be nice to hear an independent perspective. Awesome video as always.
There’s a TON going on. I’ll publish the 2017 video first then begin that research phase post haste!
I just found this channel and have to say that your content is amazing! I recommend to do video about 2013 tyre scandal and how it erupted in British GP (Secret test by Mecedes in Spain is quite a interesting sequence too). This topic is often forgotten but it paid huge factor how tyre politics developed. And there is also conspiracy theories about several teams destroying tyres in British GP by on purpose to force FIA and Pirelli changing the compounds (which also happened). Hope you understood, keep it going!
damn even I forgot about this haha good call. I'll note this one. i'm a pretty big tyre guy so it's up my alley haha
Miss those two. Great series :)
Thanks Susannah! yeah this was such a good battle. never boring off the line haha I still can't believe how aggressive Michael was on lights out to defend
