@@maverickm4802 Bruh chill. It isn't even 5min since video got uploaded.
@@user-bm9cv9vn2k This video is going to spark some heat hahah
@@maverickm4802 Raikkonen clearly deserved it over Alonso. Kimi had a similar car, but 3 retirements from the lead, and three 10-place grid penalties, ALL OF WHICH he would have won. That's 6 races on the table guaranteed to go to Kimi. Montoya, Fisichella, Wurz, Michael and DeLaRosa were all similar. It was Kimi making the difference and being let down by horrendous reliability. Alonso lost to Trulli in 2004 and DID NOT deserve the 2005 title.
@@maverickm4802 Hmmm I wonder why someone might dislike a driver who BLACKMAILED a multi-million dollar revenue private corporation in 2007. Shocker!!
Talent, Alonso was my favourite driver and I hope he can get Alpine's first win, which would be fitting since he got Renault's last one in 2008 at Japan. They really should bring back that livery as well. 👌
Alonso’s 2012 was his greatest ever, no mistakes in a vastly inferior car to the red bull. No one on the grid has driven a finer season with a car that uncompetitive.
sebastian arguably was close in 2015
@@CYMotorsport Really? He finished 103 points behind Lewis, in 2012 the Ferrari with luck was the third best car that season
@@CYMotorsport But I have to admit Mercedes was very superior in 2015.
"Alonso’s 2012 was his greatest ever, no mistakes in a vastly inferior car to the red bull" If that Red Bull was so superior how come McLaren won as many races (7) and had as many poles (8) ? If the Red Bull was so superior how did 6 different constructors win races and 8 different drivers? Fact is Sauber nearly won in Malaysia with Perez and Force India nearly won with Hulkenberg in Brazil. This tells you that no car was really dominant and that they all stole points from each other.
This is where reliability starts to play an important part. This is also why Ferrari finished 2nd in the point standings merely 60 points behind Red Bull and ahead of McLaren in 3rd.
Did I tell you Mark Webber finished the 2012 championship in 6th? Sure that was a "dominant Red Bull" ? Massa finished 7th behind him.
Hamilton and Bottas have finished 1-2 in both 2019 and 2020. They had a dominant Mercedes. Vettel and Webber most definitely did *not* have a dominant Red Bull in 2012. Webber would have finished 6th otherwise.
Oh, and who was that finishing 3rd in the championship? Kimi Raikkonen in the Lotus. Well, that must mean he was a better driver than Hamilton since he finished ahead of him in the championship. Or maybe *reliability* worked better for Kimi than it did for Hamilton. Once you realize that things become a bit more clearer what reliability means. You see failing to finish spells zero points.
When you know that Vettel commandingly led the Europan GP for the 33 first laps and retired with an alternator failure and Alonso inhered 25 points with Kimi's Lotus finishing 2nd and old man Schumacher finishing 3rd after Maldonado took Hamilton out with 2 laps to go. Grosjean was chasing down Alonso on the 40th laps in 2nd place when *his* alternator ended that threat.
Vettel finishing (he would have won) this race alone makes him an easy 2012 champion and you wouldn't be talking today about how amazing Alonso's drive was in the "inferior Ferrari" - which somehow still finished 2nd and ahead of McLaren while Webber somehow ended up 6th with Massa 7th.
Anybody will agree that 2012 was of the most evenly matched fields in F1 history - save for maybe 1982. In which Keke Rosberg *won* the title with a NA car lacking some 100-150hp on the turbo cars from Ferrari, Renault and Brabham and the rather revolutionary all carbon fiber monocoque McLaren MP4 driven by Niki Lauda and John Watson.
" in a vastly inferior car to the red bull." The 2020 Ferrari was vastly inferior. The 2012 most certainly not. Webber finished 6th in 2012 and Massa 7th. That is all you need to know. Kimi finished ahead of Hamilton who was in a "vastly superior" McLaren.
You don't mention reliability once. Not *once* .
@@jamesshunt5123 You are right in almost everything, but we all agree that the best car that season was thr Mclaren at least until the mid season, from then the Red Bull started to be the best car. In the other hand the Ferrari was a very reability car, but it was slow af, in melbourne this car was 1,6 seconds off the fastest car(Mclaren), the only way Alonso could make a pole, was in the rain, and it was like that, Silverstone and Hockenheim proves it. Sebastian drove great, but not at the same level of Alonso, that's all.

@@alexandrumantaluta224 I don't think anyone of us claims to know more than he does about F1, but as a fan base we do have a certain right to criticize and analyse.
Ferrari as a team have been a proper shambles the last two years, even when their car was competitive the entire team was acting like clowns, and in the end the buck stops with Binotto. The man is holding two vital positions in the team at one time, his public handling of his drivers has been horrible, and the team keeps making blatant strategy errors and we don't see that chaging any time soon.
As an Engineer I'd be lucky to be even 50% as qualified as Mattia, but that doesn't change the fact that he earns all the criticism he's getting
@@CYMotorsport haha I’d pay good money to see that
Imagine this young rookie doing it again, retiring Lewis like he did Schumacher
it's actually hard to even imagine today honestly
russell? maybe
Alonso in his prime couldn't beat Hamilton as a rookie let alone when he's 40+ and washed up.
@@Mage017 Are you sure about that? McLaren just favoured Hamilton during all the season and. they ended up tied in points. During Alonso's years in Ferrari (2010-2012 in special) he was way better than Hamilton with a similar performance car
@@locker3678 After Hungary they did when he was leading the championship on his own. Then spygate came to light and and pushed them even more towards Hamilton. Before that no, they didn't favor him. And yes I'm absolutely sure Alonso is 40+, washed up and won't beat Hamilton.

Alonso is a top 5 all time talent. He’s been in the title fight in at least 5 years and only had the best car in 2007 when the infighting at McLaren cost him (and Hamilton) the WDC. Less than 10 total points separate Alonso from being a 5x WDC: 2007, 2010 and 2012 were so close.
2007: 1 point
2010: 4 points
2012: 3 points

working on this video now!
In 2005, Alonso and Renault were more consistent than Raikkonen and McLaren. The Renault had better reliability compared to the McLaren which may have cost Kimi in the end, but “To finish first, first you have to finish”. Then in 2006, Alonso’s early season success gave him a cushion going into the second half when the TMD was outlawed. Schumacher was very unfortunate to get that engine blowout in Suzuka, but having said that, Fernando also retired for similar reasons in Monza where MSC won the race (and announced his retirement). Alonso fully deserved those back-to-back titles regardless of what others may claim.
Top notch production as always Nick.
I think why MS lost because he made more costed mistake than Alonso as Vettel did in his 2017-2018 tittle run.
Don't forget that 2005 last race Chinese GP Renault cranked up the engine as it had to do only 1 race instead of the 2 by FIA regs. They were really fast in China.
Not more consistent but more reliable. If Kimi had some better luck he'd have taken the title.
@@jax4113 yes mclaren was fastest but unreliable
I’ll be honest, for me Alonso is in the upper echelon of drivers. His consistency, amazing ability to drive, his Ruthless, Prost like ability to politic, and his profound love of racing are Quite striking, and he deserves study by younger drivers..
As someone who started watching f1 this year, you do a great job of explaining everything I need to know about the past.
I'm glad you enjoy them! I'm just sure to listen to you all and make sure I can improve in areas that matter
Ah, have fun bro, just respect every driver regardless of their personal lives, cz it's their skill which we see :)
Also as someone who grew up in that time it‘s very appreciated as well. I was like 7 yo at the time and I remember it being close and very competitive but as you would expect I wouldn‘t understand the technical side. Now that I‘m interested in this side of F1 I‘m really grateful those videos exist not to mention that they bring a lot of nostalgia.

One of the all time greats, easily top 10
the man can drive there is no denying that
Not even better than peak Kimi imo. Or Michael, or Mika or Lewis.
@@ciaronsmith4995 You severely overrate Mika. The guy was a speed demon in Quali but he was only good from 97-00. Once his car wasn't faster he started to decline and that's why he retired in 01. Kimi only shined for 5-6 years in his career. Even Seb would be better considering that he was good from 08-17.
@@adityanarain9428 Mika was scared after Australia 2001 it reminded him of his Adelaide crash don't talk nonsense. Kimi shined every single year except 2008, 2014, 2015 and 2017 in the longest career of all time. Mika and Kimi at their peaks would crush Vettel easily, it's not even debatable frankly. Raikkonen is transcendent when he's comfortable with the setup and has peerless racecraft while Mika is braver than anyone out there.
@@ciaronsmith4995 Well give me an argument why Mika and Kimi would crush Vettel? If you could say that Kimi needs a perfect setup than why can't I say Vettel also needs a stable rear and he would be good. Vettel was so fast in his youth that his engineer himself stated that in 2011 he was making the difference between Mclarens exaggerated.
I started watching F1 from 2003, and seen Alonso's progress those days, believe me he was a Hero for me, still is
Just a little FYI: You mentionned the Wall of Champions for Alonso’s mistake in Canada, but it was on turn 4! There’s foliage over the wall in that area while the WOC has grandstands!
I was thinking the same thing, and you're right. That's turn 4.
the spacing of curb to wall is also Bigger in t4
Yeah I thought WOC was on the last chicane
Funny to think how Alonso won his 2 titles was done in a manner opposite of his post-2006 title fights: great reliability, top decision-making, no backroom politics (excluding mass dampers), coherent team-work, a consistently quick (if not always outright fastest) car, great tech development & surviving a late-season onslaught from Kimi & Schumi.
One of the most anticipated episode of F1 wars
I've been working this since before I had to change all the names to things haha
You can’t really “cruise” to a title by “razor thin margins”... can you?
you probably commented that mid video haha wait to see how things drastically change. but at that point, he was fucking smashing schumi haha ferrari was using the old car remember? post imola, new ball game.
The J damper or as it's commonly known as is the 3rd heave element on modern f1 cars. It's being banned for next year. mercedes uses a hydraulic damper while redbull uses belleville springs.
probably the best part of the 2017 video I left out was the tremendous technical wars regarding merc's heave spring. these elements could have videos all by themselves! good to hear from you again my friend

I'm eager to see what Red Bull ends up doing
@@CYMotorsport is it bad that I hope Sergio Perez outdoes Verstappen. Also what do you think of Vettel and AM. I mean Lawrence Stroll is likely willing to listen to Vettel. I mean Hulkenburg (I wish it was him instead of Stroll) gave feedback on the car and RP took that in.

To think that Kimi could easily be a 3-time world champion. 2003 and 2005 were cruel on him.
Fernando would have been 5 time world champion if he had a better car againts vetter so close yet so far away
@@lopezjayson729 vettel had the same situation as Kimi. The RB was unreliable and the ferrari was not as bad as people think it was
Hi @@lopezjayson729
‘07 FA had the fastest, most reliable car on the grid. He cost himself the title with his unassisted crash in Fuji. Although the findings in spy-gate show both he and LH should have been excluded from that Drivers Championship.
’10 If not for mechanical failures from Vettel’s RBR car that directly benefited Alonso together with team orders within Ferrari that championship would not have been close.
’12 Mclaren had the fastest car and Ferrari by far the most reliable with 0 mechanical failures on race day for both FA and Massa. On paper Vettel should not have won that championship, somehow he did.
@@Born2rue 2012 Alonso shouldnt even been in top 5 with that dog car, ferrari was over a second slower on qualy, and those 2 poles Alonso took in rain, in dry didnt had a single chance. Just look how bad Massa finished to understand that ferrari was 4th car that year
@@Born2rue Red Bull was the best car in 2010 and 2012. And Ferrari was the best car in 2007, not McLaren.
Seriously, Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel are both overrated. They frankly had some amazing cars like 2008 Ferrari ( Raikkonen ), 2009 Red Bull ( Vettel ), 2012 Lotus ( Raikkonen ), 2017-2018 Ferrari ( Raikkonen-Vettel ) that they massively underperformed in. Put Alonso to those cars ( 2008 Ferrari, 2009 Red Bull, 2012 Lotus, 2017-2018 Ferrari ) and he would have won the title in most of those years.
In 2010 Ferrari was the 2nd best car behind Red Bull and in 2012 Ferrari was the 3rd best car, behind Red Bull and Lotus. In 2007 McLaren was 2nd best car behind Ferrari.

One of the best racing drivers to ever step in an f1car and he still doesn't fully get the recognition he deserves
Anyone who did see his performances against Schumacher and Vettel in their primes hasn't seen f1. He was fighting for the championship in Ferrari in a car that could barley get podiums
Alonso's prime Ferrari time level.. That level can crush any driver like a they're amateur compared to him... He bought a chariot in rocket ship fight in his Ferrari days🤣🤣... Still beating absolutely feared out of everyone.. Red Bull always said they won't Afraid of Ferrari but they know if anyone can beat them is Fernando Alonso... I watched 2010 to 2014 very carefully that every time Fernando with slow ferrai engage with rocket bulls always tension is huge in red bull garage... They're known if Ferrari just put 3 thenth off the pace of red Bull then game over for red bull... Alonso was that good extract about a second from that shitbox...

It took me a couple days to find the time to watch this in full, but it was worth the wait. Great stuff! The video really drove home how close Fernando's two titles were to not happening. I've met people who think Alonso just cruised to victory in '05 because Ferrari wasn't in the fight, but it's quite clear that the guy has never won anything without earning it in spectacular fashion. That's why he's one of my top 3 favorite drivers.

Alonso didn't ever dominate, he never had the car to do that. He did, however, fight consistently, out-drove and outlasted the opposition. Twice. That makes him better than Hamilton in my book.
@BannedCommander So 07 didn't happen? They weren't teammates right?
@@Bahamuttiamat In 2007 Fernando and Lewis finished with 109 points. Both had issues with reliability and Fernando was stolen the points in Hungary because of McLaren. If Fernando have had the dominant cars Lewis had across all his carreer, he probably could have as much titles as Lewis now have. Lewis is a great driver and talent but for me Fernando is better.
@@Bahamuttiamat They had the same number of points that season, though it doesn't even matter in terms of comparative talent. Put prime Alonso into the W05 or later and he'd still win; put prime Hamilton into the R25/R26 and he'd lose every time.
@@bannedcommander2932 LOL. Y'all sounding more and more desperate as time goes by. Believe what you want.
@@manjmac That's fair. It's fine being opinionated and choosing one driver over the next.
However, hungary was self inflicted, as was canada, fuji, spain etc etc. Fernando lost to the rookie in terms of exposure and speed. Hamilton was more consistent which was a big surprise.
Was walking mu dogs listening to the audio when the explosion overlapping Nico Rosbergs announcement went off 🤣 freaked out afraid they would run into the fields due to fireworks
For me as F1 fan for nearly 40 years, there is not even a shadow of any doubt about the great talent of FERNANDO ALONSO THE GREAT!!
If he hadn't been in McLaren (without the mail scandal, because McLaren discriminated him), he could be in Red-Bull which had Renault engines... He could be even in Mercedes after that to form the greatest Champion that ever was in F1!
Even so he needed only 8 points to have 6 championships instead of 2.
From shear talent pov he is the best driver and the most complete driver since Ayrton Senna!
Maybe he isn't always the fastest in qualifying, but he is the greatest racer that ever was in F1!
He is a greatest warrior ever in F1 and he is the strongest also in his mental strength!
All his talent & abilities & personal qualities makes him the greatest driver ever in F1!!
