- World-renowned graffiti artist Banksy unveiled new work in the war-ravaged Ukrainian town of Borodyanka, which was heavily damaged by fighting in the early days of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Several curious onlookers, some of whom made a 60 km drive from Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, came to see the artwork on Saturday.
Among the art was a painting of a gymnast doing a headstand on a pile of rubble and a child performing a karate move on an adult.
“This is such a historic moment for our country, that people like Banksy and other famous figures are coming here and showing the world what Russia has done to us,” 31-year-old Alina Mazur said, who came to appreciate the art.
Banksy appeared to confirm that he was behind the art when he posted images of the work on his Instagram page.

He's like a ghost, enters and leaves before anyone realizes it. The only proof of his existence being the art he leaves behind.
kind of like the ghost of kiev, but with more evidence
@@trollashnikovavtomat lol
Each of those walls is now worth a million dollars, probably more. Ukraine might want to post guards or remove the walls, before other enterprising people remove the walls.
The "art" is amplified garbage. True art is John William Godward and many other classical artists..
@@catcollision8371 Art is like fiat currency. If enough people agree it has value, it has value. Banksy isn't the most talented, but he's talented enough to have millions of fans. The bidding for his work is shocking. Those works were painted in a recent warzone, they won't be cheap. There are millions of millionaires in this world, those few paintings will be bid up.
Love the art of the child throwing the man down in karate or jujitsu the Ukraine defeating Russia
The martial art depicted is probably Sambo.
It must be judo. Putin used to practice it.
ukraine would never exist without russia, dont forget that
No ones defeating russia dont fool yourself.
@@trollashnikovavtomatyou mean Russia wouldn’t have existed without Ukraine
Is it really Bansky?
If it isn't, then someone can copy his style pretty amazingly, and this sounds like something he would do...
No it is not.. no one knows who this illegal graffiti artist is and no one ever will.. this is propaganda.. banksy is in North America with a criminal record.. Banksy is not going to Europe.. us can and mex are easy.. but not overseas..
I did not call Banksy a vandal.. Banksy is an artist!!
@@atlasfeynman1039 we don’t actually know him or her.. so yea
@@atlasfeynman1039 his style is spray bombing a wall using a stencil, not exactly hard to emulate
Those fallen walls are worth millions now.
Worth millions to idiots.
Thank you Banksy x
Sweet that he took the time.
Sweet that the people are, seem so appreciative, admiring of his art. 🙂
So stunning, so brave
Lol

Still being fooled by this theatre?
Ukraine is the new hottest place to go for signers, artists, and political figures.

How can an artist go to a war zone? Where does he get that power from?
The USA.

@@areuaware6842 you do know that Banksy is British right? 🙄
How do they know it was Banksy?
He posted it on instagram.
His work is so subtle yet impactful. He did one across the street from me whrn I lived in Toronto. The owners and the bar in the building had no idea for weeks.
Yeah ok 🙄
How do you know it was his?
@@mikoalexmiko At first, I didnt but there were rumours online that he had dropped a few pieces that summer before nuit blanche started. It seemed obvious because it was in an alleyway just off the street, done in his style. Days later it was confirmed by a news crew and was covered with a piece of plexiglass to protect it from the weather and vandals. You can still go and see it today. He had painted 4 that summer, 2 were accidentally destroyed as some areas do not take kindly to grafitti but 2 were identified and protected.
@@elterrifico9522 you do, you replied. But whatever
@@darkwillis416 nuit blanche marketing. Classic business tactic. No proof but enough to bring the crowds and money
What a beautiful gift to Ukrainians.
people are so angry that banksy is famous and creative and they are not. "how dare he go to a war zone" "how dare he do his job" "how dare he bring a fleeting moment of joy and contemplation to someone's life"
they are nothing but pathetic russian trolls. pay them no heed. they do not warrant even a split millisecond of thought.
Said no one. Banksy is one of the most well liked artist in the world. Partly because he doesn't take credit. So uhm. Yeah. You can also just say: "good that he brings the eyes to Ukraine in a unique way". Tells the same story, but actually relevant.

We don’t know he or she?? But I do know criminal records.. it is easy to go from Mexico to Canada through the USA.. but from any of the above, it is not easy to get over seas.. this is not banksy..
i haven't seen that anywhere but from you
so what are you really trying to say?
you don't like it?
I dare the climate warriors to throw a can of soup at it and superglue themselves to the wall.
Thank goodness Banksy threw some of his stencils up on rubble in the Ukraine, I almost believe the official story now.
Art is more than an image, it is a statement.
You see stencils because you are bound by them.
WOWE HES SO TALENTED AND BRAVE I LOVE IT WHEN "ARTISTS" PISS ALL OVER WORLD ISSUES. HES MAKING MONEY OFF THIS!
Curious how he's making money off of these.
Zelensky, the award winning actor was seen with his rich buddies buying up mansions in Sweden. Keep those tax dollars flowing to the laundry mat while poor Americans go hungry living in tents all over major cities that resemble a third world county. Good job!
I see the reference of Judo (practiced by Poutine) and the kid throwing him on the floor (like the representation of Ukraine being a David in front of Goliath) but anyone knows the first reference we see (a gymnast?) ?
well done Banksy. well done...
So far during this "war" one famous rock band, two Hollywood actors and a slew of Western leaders have popped over to Ukraine like it's a holiday hotspot. Now a famous artist. Funny we never saw this during the Syrian war. How about all these folks fly on over to Yemen to help out next. Or do we only do that for wypeepo?
Umm Ukrainians are peachpeepo
So easy for copycats to reproduce and no artist to claim recognition for the work.
There goes my respect for him. Never knew he was a Nazi lover.
Wonderful! From USA.
Remember when Banksy used to make art that stood against the Western elite and their police states?
Back to Kremlin and troll farm, must get down on knees for Master Putin

A lot of bitter people with Fine Arts degrees who spend time commenting because they are incapable of true creation.
Not saying Banksy art isn't good, but there's so many people out there that could do the exact same thing that wouldn't get a fraction of the attention and have a 100th of the value. However just attach the name 'Banksy' to it and all of a sudden its worth tons of money and gets plenty of media coverage.
Agreed
You're missing the point if you're so preocuppied about whether or not the art itself is "good"
I was waiting for this to happen
No!! Banksy is North American.. this is not banksy
Why is graffiti illegal if this is encouraged in the news..

As the old man said before, this isn‘t high quality art.

Love his art! The girl with the heart balloon has always been my favorite.
That's exactly what the people in Ukraine thought as they walked over the smoldering remains of their home and noticed a picture on the remains of the wall
Is Sean Penn Bansky?!?

I could have made that. Who knows. Probably as real as the "ghost of Ukraine"
Well people just want to look the other way so maybe an artistic approach will persuade them ...force them to bear witness.
Lol what a joke, this “war” is a spectacle
Enjoy the show. Love seeing Russia lose so pathetically.
Russia is more democratic than Canada 😂😂😂😂
Block global television so the liars fall...
Hey Global, no disrespect to the people of Ukraine, but maybe feature some indigenous art from Canada eh? Like mine. It too is provocative, controversial and highlights horrible conditions here in Canada for indigenous people.
You answered your own question.
Instead of highlighting your own plights, how about championing for someone who doesn't enjoy the safety and democracy of our Commonwealth. You think Canada is "horrible"? Try living the artists perspective and seeing how life is for people in Ukraine and draw inspiration from THEIR spirit and connection to the land.
"indigenous art" is primitive garbage.. Romans and Greeks did better art 2000 years ago. lol

He doesn't need promoting. He's world famous. He does what he wants because he feels like it. Ukraine is an artistic country, and is loving his contribution.
@@giovanna722 yes I'm sure the people with bombs exploding and family dying around them are grateful the world news and some faceless "artist" came in to make a spray paint stencil on rubble that once was their home, and turned the worlds focus on his art and his bravery as he came and left in silence.
