  • In today's video, James and Paul look at the MXR TalkBox. This effect has been used on classic hits such a Bon Jovi's Living on a prayer etc. This unique effect uses a pedal that transmits a signal through a tube to your mouth to create this guitar effect.
Featuring a rugged chassis, controls for tone, volume, and gain plus the unit's own built-in speaker and amp driver, the MXR Talk Box pairs modern appointments with one of the guitar's most iconic effects. Heard on countless recordings ranging from Daft Punk to Frampton to Metallica, this pedal brings a completely new facet of expression to any board.
The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.

Frampton - Do you feel like we do was the quintessential talk-box song IMO.

Paul's facial expressions are priceless! Made my day, thanks.

With practice you can form words rather than just wah wah wah wah as in Feel Like I Do by Peter Frampton who is an expert with the talk box. I use the MXR and as you guys said it is really great fun.

I've had a Sebro Tubestation for years, I might have to dust it off and get my Bon Jovi on! Great video as always.

Hilarious and fun! Just programmed a patch on my Mobius where with the expression pedal you can sweep the Formant and sort of get there - for a quick bit in a song it can work, but you don't get the same facial expressions!

Peter Frampton ..Show me the way . his most iconic use..and also sparkys magical piano old school talkbox sound , now the tricky part is to use it to talk through and make word vocal sounds which is quite tricky and demanding on your stomach muscles,,and quite an experience with 30- 100 watt tube amp suddenly being routed through your mouth and rattling the old teeth...great vids..rock on.peace.

I built myself one a few years ago using an HF driver from a PA system. It pushed a serious amount of air, I had to be careful not to damage my teeth 😬. Also, not a good look when the audience can see dribble going down the clear tube! Good fun though (in short bursts)
