TWRP is one of my favorite bands and their lead singer, Doctor Sung, uses a Talkbox in almost every song. It gives them a super distinct sound that I absolutley cherish.

A couple years ago I showed my music production teacher and it blew his mind. He immediately put in an order for it to use in class.

Stevie Wonder is legendary, but Peter Frampton's "Do You Feel Like We Do" deserves credit in talkbox history. That song made a whole lot of people say "what is that"!?

Others've already mentioned the 1970s album Frampton used it on (and toured on) is "Frampton Comes Alive," IIRC. The radio play song from that live album is "Do You Feel LIke We Do" with a whole lot of talkbox on it. (I think what Frampton used was talkbox and not vocoder.)

Roger Troutman was an absolute legend of the talk box with both keyboard and guitar. He was amazing in Zapp and as a solo artist. Taken way to soon in heart-breaking fashion, but I will never stop shouting the praises of Roger to anyone interested in Talk box.

@@TheBlakus420 The person who played the talkbox on the song (his name is Mr Talkbox), may be really inspired by Roger Troutman. Roger was a huge deal in R&B and Funk talkbox.

The contrasting timbre between the acoustic and the talkbox was so COOL
I loved it when Rob has picked up the guitar with it and became several times more engaged
I got goosebumps during that love song he wrote, Rob’s guitar complimented it so well
I know the talk box has been around a long long time, but as far as popularizing it I would credit Peter Frampton from the mid 70's with his amazing live album "Frampton Comes Alive". He knew how to work it well, combine that with his masterful guitar playing and it was surely a recipe for greatness. The quintessential cut from the album has to be "Do You Feel Like We Do", if you have not heard it before you must go find it.
I really am amazed that talk box metal isn't more of a thing - sounds amazing!

It's because blasting massive soundwaves straight into your teeth is a pretty easy way to make your jaw into a checkerboard.
Using the talkbox a lot will eventually make your teeth fall out.

Talkbox is such a fun spin for vocals, i dunno if anyone mentioned them yet but theres a band called "TWRP" that their vocalist almost exclusively uses talkbox and I personally love their music
Doctor Sung is a god. Hes so damn good at the tallbox. Makes sense considering hes always playing it for shows

I could be wrong but I think TWRP uses a vocoder, not a talkbox. They're an awesome band, though. Especially live!

I've been talkboxing since 2007 and love it! The look on people's faces when I do it live is priceless. Some people think I'm breathing in some kind of gas or blowing into the tube. DX100 into a Crate Powerblock with your choice of driver is the way to go. That combo absolutely CRUSHES the Talkstar and takes it's lunch money. You get more flexibility with drivers, EQ and components.

I remember the first time I heard Richie Sambora start “Livin on a Prayer”. I knew he was using some kind of guitar effect. My friend Logan explained that he was using a talk box and how it works. So ever time I hear a Bonjovi song, I think of Logan who passed away from cancer at 27. Rest in Peace my friend. Thanks for the memories, Rob.

Hey Rob, I've been going through a bad depression the last year or so that's completely killed my ability to do anything productive, especially making music. I've been trying to find a therapist in my area that I can afford and will actually call me back, but so far I haven't had any luck. That ending really hit me. I guess I'm just trying to say thanks for everything you do, because as strange as it sounds, your passion for music is part of what drives me to never quit writing songs, no matter how bad things get. I totally understand how you feel, always had chronic depression, and I was going through it really bad for a year, and Im finally just now starting to get better. Never give up! "Taking a nap, when you said you'd create something, is NOT a f*cking war crime." Remember to be nice to yourself.. I love these in depth videos with masters of their craft. And I'm really happy to have heard the talkbox guitar.
I have only ever really seen talk boxes used with guitars, but it makes perfect sense that you can play it with pretty much anything you can run through a pedal. That bit at 3:40 sounds like a violin that you can also shred on.

Totally makes me wanna by a talkbox. Soloing/improvising on it sounds incredible. Always been fascinated by daft punks use of it in their songs and thinks soloing without singing it sounds much more better and wish they did more of it

I love how on the synth Rob's kind of lost, but as soon as he gets the guitar total dork instincts take over and he just becomes a crazy robot.

Was amazed by Talkbox the first time I heard "The Zoo" by Scrorpions.
Not this type of application, but still gave a great character to those solos.
When you had that little jam there, I just made me picture, how much an acoustic album by Daft Punk would've been! The aesthetics of both this natural raw sound and synth seemed like something they would've progressed with if they were too make another, a very natural evolution of the form. Maybe it wasn't meant to be for DP, but maybe with you two, you could bring that sound to life. It would something so different and interesting the landscape of music. I wouldn't even know how to define it, but hearing that little session, it just felt perfect, it was something my soul could feel.
