spent 2 years trying to avoid getting intubated in an ICU by covid....watches this, suddenly I'm all WHERE CAN I GET ONE OF THOSE MAGICAL TALK TUBES!?!
This video was so educational since I never considered this tool and the culture of it all. It's so cool to see the host ask great questions and actually LISTEN to what Andy has to say. No ego. Just lots of well earned mutual respect. So cool to see how attentive the host was to observing and asking the clarifying questions I know I would probably be asking as well. Andy is insanely committed and humble. He's got serious skills and is so relatable. These are the kind of artists who inspire by never stopping; always looking to improve his game. You can see how passionate he is. This is what creating music looks like! Does Andy have albums out there already?
This is great. Can we have more of these videos with people who play on records, session guys, live payers etc. You often don't hear much about these artists, but it's amazing to listen to and learn from.
As always, a FANTASTIC deep dive into a niche yet extremely interesting instrument!! Just got one myself, and this video is so helpful to get started on the sound design of the talkbox. Thank you Jack, Andy, Falcon, and everyone else behind the scenes!
I wish he would've given him more time to tell those stories at the beginning. I was loving them, but the other guy was clearly trying to get him to wrap up! 😂 Some really good stories for talkbox fans!
I’m amazed at what work it takes to master that. I have always loved it but I never new anything about how to do it but sing into a chub now I’m told you don’t speak into the chub. Great video guys
Insane skills! I remember when I was 16 years old and a music newbie and went to the music shop and asked for 'that thing that makes me sing with my synth' and they sold me a Yamaha BC-1 Breath Controller for my Yamaha synth. How disappointed I was when I tried it, but still thought it was my lack of skills and not myself buying the completely wrong tool from an idiot salesperson..... :P
I love the way Andy tried so hard to not let his enormous ego take over the show. It was almost convincing! 😂 But no oscar this time! Full marks to Jack for his professionalism.
The thing I found difficult, and I'm still getting, is that if you need to exhale, almost whisper in order to get out all the sibilant T's, S's, P's etc. But yeah, a few years on and I still catch myself and think "I've been holding my breath..." If you're interested, here's a track with my talkbox in the chorus from a couple of years ago: czcams.com/video/xHtgpuRApoY/video.html
Hey what Talk Box was Andy using by the way? I’ve seen ones that light up like the Free Nationals keyboard player uses. I wanna get one !!! Please help!!
Hey dude. That one you’re referring to is called the Talkstar by my good friend Fingerz. It has a built in amp and led blue lights around the driver. I use that one when I’m playing out live. It’s awesome.
My original rig was a DX100 and the Crate Power Block (because of this video from back in that day....czcams.com/video/Ch0q08vCo6w/video.html) with a Pyramid car audio driver. I just recently switched to the MXR unit since it's smaller and fits in the same bag as the rest of the talkbox rig. I miss the highs and lows that the Power Block pushed out the driver. (Edit) Went straight back to the Crate Powerblock after a few months of MXR's shortcomings.
seems like patting your head and rubbing your belly at the same time. my inner self would be trying to sing the notes but really youre only speaking the sounds. insane. wonder how long it takes to get that down?
i wish akai would give andy a development team so they could develop a streamlined product which sounds like andys talk box but doesnt need all of the gear involved...a all in one box which can be controlled via any external usb/midi keyboard..in a basic way itd be a amp head with a basic saw tooth synth integrated.. come on akai come on andy studios have been crying out for one for years but no ones come out with a single product.

Amazing!! 🔥🔥
This is an amazing video, thank you for sharing this! Andy is so talented and humble - absolute gentleman and legend! 💙
This should be filed under a “Jack meets…” episode. It was as much about Andy Mac as anything else. Top work!
Wow Andy is just about the coolest dude ever!
Thanks for putting this up! One day I’ll give one of these a go and I’ll rewatch this. This type of knowledge is hard to come by.
Bloomin' love these videos, Jack! Thanks for sharing the knowledge, history and enthusiasm. More power to you mate.
Simply stunning, thank you guys.
So, I’m sold. Well done gentlemen
Great video! Thanks for the talkbox lesson guys. Gonna download Andy's patch now!

ROGER TROUTMAN KING OF THE TALK BOX !!!!
24:50 - i have a talkbox that im really bad with, but this was the most eye-opening thing to learn. Talkbox Andy rules!

Amazing informative video. Jack - did you find out what interval Andy sets his pitch bend to?
Amazing video which has convinced me I need an MPC Live II... is the retro styled version discontinued?

Happy to share bro
Sounds great what driver are you using i have similar set up minus the mpc

Love you Guys! Is that Funk-O-Rama MPC Expansion Pack already out? Where can I get my hands on one?
Feb 28th I believe Andy said in their last video. czcams.com/video/laPNs_ItO-g/video.html
what harmony plugin did he use i know its in mpc but is it a stock plugin ?
😂🔥🔥🔥🎶🛸
is it possible to talk also using a guitar or bass?
Hello ;) I wonder how Andy cabled the pre- amp, is it taking the signal from the DX or from the Mic?
From the DX. The microphone is only picking up the result.
Why dont you have any latest keyboard amp review? CZcams universe only has a few and old ones.

Ah sweet, they do look amazing. Thanks Andy!! If I go for a less flashy one what would you recommend??
Sorry, I wanted to ask why the talkbox patch for hype doesn't work on the hype mpc version sofware pc

which talkbox is he using?
This one is the Electro-Harmonix Golden Throat Mouth Tube.
Andy are you a Mac or a Windows?
Mac! Lol

It's called the electrospit
Or you could just get the latest Casio keyboard and type in your own voice box words
Its a different type of synthesis altogether!

such a misleading title, didn't even show a talkbox. It's more about this unique rig
He need to go back and study Roger Troutman not Teddy Riley .
Roger handed the tube down to Teddy who took it into the RnB era. You can learn from all the masters. :-)
Too much talking not enough boxing
Shits nasty AF. Sliggin spit everywhere. Disgusting
